New “Enemies” preview released

A new 30-second spot for Game of Thrones has been airing on TV and now HBO has uploaded it to Youtube. Lots of footage already seen in other trailers, but there are a few new shots and a good bit of new dialogue.

Winter Is Coming: Remember when we were begging for any sort of promo from HBO? Those days seems like a loooong time ago now.

  • Sansa and Shae turning their heads at the same time made me lol.

SOOOOOOO excited for The Hound’s trial by combat, and the excitement is growing with every new 0.0001 second clip we get in every trailer :)

  • Man, I just can’t get enough – every trailer is fantastic. I loved this one! Can’t wait can’t wait ~~~ Is it just me, or is the promotion for this season a million times more intense than the last two?

  • Well, fuck me. Remember waiting and wondering for HBO to get off their ass and get on that damn advertising campaign for season 3? Yeah me neither.

  • Interesting new bit of dialogue with Cersei. I assume that’s from the scene during which Tyrion grabs an axe (already seen in previous trailers) and maybe a helmet (that would explain the POV shot). Can’t wait.

EDIT : silly me, that’s not the pov shot of inside a helmet. But I still think it’s Tyrion.

  • Also great use of NIN’s Something I Can Never Have. Very subtle yet gives that perfect touch of dread for S3.

  • Who’s Cersei talking to behind the wooden door?! It seems like a prisoner, so I don’t think it’s Tyrion (who doesn’t get imprisoned until Season 4).

  • I’m also glad that they seem to be emphasizing the fact that Cersei tried to have Tyrion killed in Blackwater … I don’t know ANY show-only watchers who picked up on that (including myself since I watched both seasons before reading all the books!) … it’s obvious once you know, but only really subtle if you aren’t SUPER into who is who and what colors everyone is wearing. I mean, red cloak v. white cloak v. gold cloak meant NOTHING to me before reading the books.

  • Not as succesful for me as the other preview videos, but still quite good!

I wonder if a second Kingsguard knight will get named this year? We are a few named Kingsguard members short afterall…. I wouldn’t think Ser Meryn Trant can do everything….

  • MATTHEW,

I thought it was Tyrion, but he was behind a door locked from the INSIDE- not locked in as a prisoner.

Maybe it is a new scene soon after he wakes up recalling Ser Mandon Moore tried to kill him under what he assumes were Cersei’s orders. So he is a bit paranoid, ducking behind his door?

  • Westeros
4th episode ending gives us (yes, Linda too) a thrill. Reminds us of S1 finale. #GameOfThrones #GOT331

  • Jen,

Varys explicitly tells Tyrion that Cersei was the one who tried to have him killed in the season two finale. It was a pretty quick scene, though, and not the main focus, so it was kind of easy to miss, I guess.

He already knows about the attempted assassination. Remember the scene in ep20?

  • Khal-A-Bunga,

A lot of people (myself included) seemed to kind of interpret that as her trying to kill him just by sending him into the battle … or something. I mean, seriously there is A LOT there to miss as a non-reader … I missed SO MANY details on my first watch-through of both seasons. Like, completely forgot and missed and then when reading the books thought “why didn’t they have xyz?” and then on a re-watch realized THEY DID and it was just quick. The story is fantastic, but overwhelming.

  • Nick_Scryer,

    Right.
I don’t recall a scene with Cersei visiting Tyrion as he recovered in the books though.. I think I recall Tywin commenting on the fact it did happen…. Was there one?

I did not mean to imply that he was paranoid without reason! XD

  • MATTHEW,

I think it is Tyrion although he’s not imprisoned. I think he’s locked himself away since Cersei tried to have him killed in the battle. Looks like Bronn is guarding his door.

  • And thus we enter that glorious time when all those who flailed & lamented about the lack of footage now flail & lament about the overabundance of footage. I call it springtime, & I dream of it all year.

Also my guess would be that Cersei’s speaking to…oops, cant do spoilers on my phone.

  • Michel,

I’ve been tying to figure out which Kingsguard we will see and/or which Kettleblacks and I just hae no idea! XD

I would like them all named extras this season even if they do not get speaking roles I guess, but I think more likley this will happen…
    – We will not get 3 Kettleblacks, but maybe we will get one to be Cersei’s pawn?
    – We should get Arys Oakheart, but maybe Season 4…
    – Blaon Swann will show up the following year…
    – Probably will not get Boros Blount at all….
    – We have to get Robert Strong down the road, right?

  • I don’t think Cersie did order Tyrion’s death. Yes a KG tries to kill him and in the books he assumes it is her, but never really gets a confirmation. My pet theory is that somewhere down the line we will find that LF has orchestrated this assasination attempt, and Ned’s beheading (up until Joff gives the order to behead both Varys and Cersei believe that Ned will be allowed to take the black).

Think about it, Tyrion was actually doing good things in KL undermining the chaos/unrest that Cersei/Joff had created.

anyways this is not necessarily the place for theories but I had to throw that out there lol.

Boros Blount has been around since season 1, he’s played by an extra.

    http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Boros_Blount

They briefly showed a member of the Kingsguard on the boat when Myrcella is shipped off to Dorne, so we should get Arys Oakheart.

Balon Swann has also been mentioned in the show, so he might be in future seasons.

  • Ser Endrew Tarth,

you are rigth. it was Littlefinger who ordered Tyrion’s death. he tried to kill him several times and it is known that he and Mandon Moore came to KG together from the Vale

  • idkk,

    Thanks for that.
I don’t recall hearing or seeing Swann or Blount, but I do recall the back of the the Kingsguard armor in Myrcella’s boat. The fact that the Kingsguard almost always wear their helmets makes them so indistinguishable unless they are speaking or being spoken too.
    *Shrug*

I still wonder if some of the Kingsguard within KL may have their roles merged to keep things streamlined.

  • zod,

I was thinking about that the other day. If Bronn will die off or get a new role from some other book character being merged into him.

I was thinking that Bronn could be killed during Tyrion’s escape maybe, but did not think of it happening this season!

  • Darquemode,

Ha! So, I’m not alone on this. ;-)

    From Jerome Flynn’s interview:

“He’s just about sticking it with Tyrion,” Jerome said. “He’s getting a bit frustrated, underpaid. He’s not got the position he had, but there’s still love between them. And some good, some nice scenes together, but not much.”

It appears that TV!Bronn decides to stick with Tyrion in the show (as we’ve seen in some promo pictures) but, still, they won’t have many scenes together.. which might be pointing to the fact that he will die quickly. We’ll see.

I think I’d like that change. It would bring way more drama than just have him disappear off-screen somewhere at some point.

  • Darquemode,

I doubt Bronn gets the cut this season. I do recall Jerome Flynn stating in an interview how his scenes “This year” is very limited but critical and I think he speculated we’ll see more of him later on. On a script level, Bronn needs to be alive at least till season 4 so that he denies Tyrion at the very end of his trial which leads to the epic sequence of events. So no, after carefully cultivating him into this epic bad ass I sincerly doubt he’d get ganked by 2 random dudes (even if they are the kingsguard).

PS: Thx Darquemode for those videos :D

  • Drfunk,

That is the rreason I thought it could happen after Tyrion’s trial during the escape!

    No problem.
Glad the SpTV link worked for people.

  • This new preview PROVES conclusively that not only is PW this year, but so is Tyrion killing Tywin, the Kingsmoot, The House of Black and White, Quentyn Martell, and the first half of Winds of Winter, all in the 10th episode!

  • Anyone read the Lena Headey piece in Esquire? The writer gives the most superficial, stereotypical overview of the ASOIAF fanbase. Asshole.

  • “Remember when we were begging for any sort of promo from HBO? Those days seems like a loooong time ago now.”

Yeah 100% agree – I want to watch season 3 sooo badly! 1st of April can’t come soon enough!

  • Aemon,

Tyrion also threatens Joffrey after J. tells him that after him and Sansa get married he will give her a real man to go to bed with

im sure there were many more instances than that too, but i cant remember

  • Joshua Taylor,

Adapted from author George R.R. Martin’s hugely successful fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones came with a huge, built-in, and devoted (if pimpled and asthmatic) fan base

    Yeah.. “asshole” seems accurate.

  • zod,

pimpled and asthmatic? Ugh, did a sentient being write this, or did they just use the “cliche generator” button on the keyboard? That’s really offensive, and does no respect to the audience at all. It’s the third-most popular show in HBO history, massively successful books.

  • Darquemode:

I was thinking that Bronn could be killed during Tyrion’s escape maybe, but did not think of it happening this season!

I dont understand the notion that characters that don’t have “anything else to do” need to die (bronn, talisa, ros). I mean, can’t they just go home and never been seen again or something?

  • as a non-book reader (hey I’ll get around to it), I’m tired of Joffrey on the throne, I don’t care if he dies or not, but I want him off so we can mix it up a little at King’s Landing. Hopefully Season 3 changes this…

  • bronn’s great in the books and is still alive, he has at least made it to the Winds of Winter sad to see them off bronn if thats the case. loyal book reader here so i’m rarely a fan of the changes but tolerant them because you can’t put a budget on GRRM’s imagination.

  • Darquemode: I wonder if a second Kingsguard knight will get named this year? We are a few named Kingsguard members short afterall…. I wouldn’t think Ser Meryn Trant can do everything….

Well Joff does have at least 10 members of his Kingsguard ( in one scene we see 9 in the Throne room not including Jaime) so I’m sure a few more named ones will appear as the series goes on.

  • Josla,

OhI agree with you for the most part.
I’m not one of those that thinks characters need to die early to save on costs or that D&D will kill off too many characters still living in the books.

With Bronn it feels different to me.

He really has been a fairly major supporting character that the audience may notice disappearing for an extended time. With Tyrion bound for Essos next season I wondered if they may feel the need to conclude Bronn’sstory. Since I like Bronn I started trying to figure out what they could do with his character…

With Lollys not appearing in the TV series (so far) it removes Bronn’s storyline from the books. It felt like it may make “TV show sense” to kill him or merge him with some other role that remains in KL in the books. It really doesn’t make sense for Tywin or Cersei to reassign him as Gold Cloaks’ commander (after demoting him) or to the Kingsguard. Not sure what other role would keep him around and active in Kings Landing without Tyrion there.

Personally I want Bronn to stick around. Im okay with him living off-screen and maybe reappearing down the road.

  • Mormegil,

I must not have counted them all in that scene…10? Wow!
That is more than in the books where there are only 7 at a time!

  • Mormegil: Well Joff does have at least 10 members of his Kingsguard ( in one scene we see 9 in the Throne room not including Jaime) so I’m sure a few more named ones will appear as the series goes on.

    Really? What scene is that?

  • Ser Endrew Tarth,

I hadn’t though of it, but I like your theory. Without knowing exactly what he’s doing, it’s clear that Littlefinger is pulling more strings than he lets on, but then again so is Varys.

  • Nezzer: Really? What scene is that?

Season 1 (Ep 10) where Marillion gets his tongue cut out.

There’s 5 Kingsguard (including the Hound) on the Dais and then there’s 4 more at the other end of the throne room, adding in Jaime makes 10.

It’s most likely just a mistake in filming/editing, they must have shot the scene from 2 angles and wanted Kingsguard on guard in both not realising that it meant there were 9 of them in the room.

At the time I did wonder if they had decided to keep the number of Kingsguard vague (so they could just introduce new ones when needed) but then in the 2nd season IIRC Renly does mention that there should be 7 members in a Kingsguard which does suggest the Season 1 scene was a mistake.

  • I saw another commercial the other night on TV that had a shot of Jaime in the bath tub, been looking for it online ever since. anyone else see this clip?

  • Anne:

What channel and what program were you watching? What time

I think that was a movie with Nickolaj unrelated to GoT

  • A new 30-second trailer just appeared on my TV and it was fantastic. I saw this trailer last night on TV as well so I have no doubt WIC will pick up on the one I just saw. It featured a mob outside of the Great Sept of Baelor, a new look at a meeting between Dany and Daario, and the bath scene with Jaime and Brienne. It was great. Just thought I’d let you all know that yet another trailer is coming soon.

EDIT: Apparently Anne saw the same one as I. I saw it around 6:50pm on CBS (during Entertainment Tonight).

  • Darquemode:

    – We will not get 3 Kettleblacks, but maybe we will get one to be Cersei’s pawn?

Maybe they will use Meryn Trant to take the place of the Kettleblack, since he’s been firmly established in the 2nd season and recognizable to the audience.

  • Nine Inch Nails+Game of Thrones? Two of the best things I have ever experienced, combined…my mind just exploded.
(that is a remix of Something I Can Never Have, right?)

  • Mormegil: Well Joff does have at least 10 members of his Kingsguard ( in one scene we see 9 in the Throne room not including Jaime) so I’m sure a few more named ones will appear as the series goes on.

There’s never more than seven KG, there might have been Goldcloaks in that scene.

  • idkk: There’s never more than seven KG, there might have been Goldcloaks in that scene.

No there’s clearly 9 of them in that scene and none of them are Goldcloaks.

As I said it was probably a mistake as it’s clear the scene was shot from two different angles and they probably used the same Kingsguard actors in both shots but it ends up with 9 Kingsguard in the room

    Have a look.

  • Synnerman,

    Exactly…. That’s what I have been wondering…
Could Trant take Blount’s parts or parts of the Kettleblacks?
Both Trant and Blount are more loyal to Cersei, like she thinks the Kettleblacks are.

Blount being an inept buffoon and the Kettleblacks being imposing buffoons they are different physical types I guess….. Blount is almost comic relief more than necessary. From being a pawn in Cersei’s plan as the only available KG to fight for Margaery to becoming Tommen’s food-taster. it really not that vital a role, but the two duties I noted would be fun on TV I think..

Osmund Ketteblack does not do much other than being Cersei’s thing. Beds her, disposes of bodies and bears falsee witness for her… the dirty work I guess.

Osfryd Kettleblack does similar duties doesn’t he? He does get raised to Gold Cloaks commander. A Kingsguard could not do both… so they may need one non-Kingsguard Kettleblack (or minion) if they want to follow that book plot.

I forget what the other Kettleblack did ther than being part of Cersei’s frame job on Margaery etc

The way the show is shot and not having as many sub-plots, most of that could be done by one Kingsguard member like Trant maybe…. or Trant and one minion.
    *Shrug*

  • Mormegil,

    Nice catch.. interesting.

Like you said it was likely just a continuity error they missed in editing. Still a fun trvia bit though!

  • I think I’ve seen all the previews I’m going to watch for the season. May the rest of you enjoy it.

  • Michel,

Oakheart is going to be pretty important in season 4 or 5. They will probably wait to hire an actor for him, though, until he is actually important, much like with Oberyn Martell.

  • SPOILERS

I don’t think that Littlefinger ordered the hit on Tyrion. It was probably just simpy Joffrey.

  • Tyler:
    Anne,

Yes, I just saw that ad a few minutes ago! It was fantastic, I almost squealed when I saw that scene! No, you are not crazy!

WAIT. Really??!! *do the praise R’hllor dance*

    Can someone upload that commercial??

  • Thanks for those who responded on my pet theory.

I think that the hit on Tyrion could’ve been either Varys or LF, as it also works for Varys to keep KL in chaos, possibly even to let Stannis in (as he could disappear into the tunnels which he later does anyways). But the beheading of Ned Stark obviously threw him for a loop.

I don’t want Bronn to die… but if his storyline in the book is truly an aside and not going anywhere then it would make sense for the show.
