By Winter Is Coming on in Events, Media.

HBO’s The Buzz was on hand at the opening of Game of Thrones: The Exhibition in Toronto. Rose Leslie and costume designer Michele Clapton tell fans what they can expect to see when the exhibit hits their town.

Winter Is Coming: We will be covering the event in NYC pretty extensively. So even if you can’t make it there, be sure to check back here later this week for all the details.

I went to the one in Toronto. I’m not really the type to geek out about props and such so it wasn’t super exciting, but I got a mean picture of myself on the Iron Throne, which made it worthwhile.

They wouldn’t let me declare allegiance to House Bolton though. Stupid multiple choice. Actually probably the most interesting find was that one of the war strategy pieces from Robb’s map is a Bolton piece.

Has the Buzz: Season 3 Premiere been uploaded online?

I saw I had that recorded from last night, but thought I’d check before uploading. I did not see it on HB/ YT….

    zod,

I was hoping to catch the Inside The WIldlings video last night, but no joy. I did get the Buzz: Exhibition and The Buzz: Red Capet. Woke up and saw the Exhibition video was on HBO’s YT channel, but did not notice the Red Carpet video…

Think I noticed a split second of new footage to the Jaime and Brienne fight scene.

    More than a spilt second.

Either way – looks like Jamie doesn’t even stand a chance against Brienne – that pisses me off! He’s supposed to be probably the best swordsman in the entire realm. which is made pretty evident in the books, when even in his weakened and shackeled state, he is able to stand his ground against Brienne – for a good while, at least.

Changes like this is really annoying to me – when there doesn’t even seem to be a point to it.

    sjwenings,

When I re-wtched it I noticed how much more we see. We can really tell the tone of the fight now for sure.

Maybe it i just the end bit of the scene when he wears down? In the books he pressed the attack and the realized how strong and skilled she was… Hopefully him pressing her at first before she nonchalantly beats him down.

Maybe without his internal dialog they felt the need to exagerate how easily she blocks his attacks or attacks him to show how strong she is?

Mmyeeahh.. that might be it. If he can hold his own for a while, but quickly tires, that would be alright. Especially if he or she mentions after, how imprisonment has made him weak.

Yes !! I was about to post that but you beat me to it. That look on her face when she turns, with Robb casually talking behind her and Walder Frey sitting at the table in the background. It gave me chills.

    sjwenings,

The show really has not done a good job at showing how good Jaime is with a sword. Most show only viewers think he is all talk and believe Ned would have beat him if the Lannister soldier didn’t interfere. What is strange about this scene, is that they said they added it because they wanted to show Jaime fighting, when in reality it built up Ned far more than it showed Jaime as a badass. I have no doubt fans are going to have a field day with Jaime being beaten by a woman and completely miss the fact that he is in chains and weak from malnourishment. I hope they can properly convey Jaime wearing down and being slowed by the chains, but I fear they won’t.

    OT:

It is March 24th. I must have only dreamt that it was Spring because it is 20+ degrees below normal and there is 7 inches of snow on the ground and climbing. Is this Westeros? How long is this Winter going to last?

I can only hope that Jaime is only feigning incompetence and defeat, before he unleashes his true skill upon Brienne.
Also…I can’t believe this, but that brief shot from the RW looks exactly like what I had imagined the scene to look like, the only difference being that I had imagined the “musicians” to be in a gallery on one of the side walls.

  24. Darquemode
    Posted March 24, 2013 at 1:55 pm | Permalink

    Tyrion Pimpslap,

    Agreed.

They have done a couple subtle things like during the Ned v Jaime fight they had Jaime being more casual and Ned struggling or they had Jaime describe how as a squire he killed some experienced knigts, but nothing to really show that Jaime is one of the best swodsmen alive.

I wonder if they’ll have HUGE BIG SPOILERS Catelyn taking a Frey as hostage. I really, really hope she’s the last to be “dealt with”, just like in the books. Shit, it’s going to be awful.

One of the nuances of watching all these promotional videos with Rose Leslie is the unique quality of nervousness she brings to the proceedings. It’s in her eyes and her voice, as if the things she has to say to promote the show don’t exactly tax the butterflies out of her stomach.

    Selmy,

Interesting interview, but I really hope that Natalie Dormer is wrong and that there will be no cross-pollination between the show and the books. GRRM said that he wants the books not to be affected by the show if possible and I think that’s a good thing. What works in the show doesn’t have to work in the books and vice versa.

And who the hell is Shailene Woodley? ;-)

Jesus Christ @ the people who are complaining about the Jamie/Brienne fight already. The video gave you an extra two seconds to look at it, and all you see is the end of it, which of course we know who wins already. Let the scene play out before you start talking about how much you hate it… damn.

I’ll be making my way to NY on saturday just to check out the exhibit. Hope it’s worth it.

I think they have portrayed Jaime’s swordsmanship accurately, at least according to my impression from the books. Remember Donal Noye’s lesson to Jon: being able to afford a top-tier coach already sets one way, way ahead. That still translates into real talent, and Jaime is already naturally skilled, but it also means that Ned Stark would give him one hell of a fight. I mean, we’re talking about a guy who grew up sparring with Robert Baratheon, led an army, and beat three Kingsguard (yes, it was seven on three, but he survived where five did not, which is still worth a tremendous amount against the likes of legends like Dayne and Hightower). It’s a testament to Jaime’s skill that he talks a big game and has mentioned plenty of kills to back it up. You don’t win if you go into a fight or a duel if you have doubts, and being cocky can be a real advantage. Look at Muhammad Ali.

Also, there was talk of some sort of moot at the NYC event. It would be fun to meet up and have such discussions over beers…

Well GRRM has stated that the show has so far only affected his writing of Osha because of how great Natalie Tena has been.
