  • Kelly,

Funny – that is exactly what my daughter said. I have big time Alfie love – what a great Theon. 7 days 7days 7days 7days 7days

  • Has it been confirmed that David Bradley is returning this season? That guy didn’t look like Lord Frey from season 1…

  • Excellent video! Very beautifully constructed! But seeing that first image of the RW, and knowing what’s gonna happen for quite some time, I found myself weirdly not prepaired for it… I was very confortable and at peace with the deaths of Robb and Cat… not anymore… 7 days…

  • Anyone notice Alfie’s (Theon) hair? It is bleached blonde like Reek! You can also see some roots meaning it was dyed a while go and now growing out. REEK REEK ONE MORE WEEK!

  • What was the deal with Jaime going down like a chump against Brienne? I hope they capture how close and evenly matched that fight it. That’s what made it so tense in the books.

  • The Twins set looks great. I always imagined it being like a really creepy old church. I imagine it smelling all dank and like old books and dust and decay. I like how darkly-lit it is. Very atmospheric.

Someone really needs to destroy that place and all who dwell there! Are you listening Stannis!?!?!

  • ah crap! i said i was staying away from WIC but i cant…. the little clips are getting me pumped up!!! ahhhhhh

  • Not Today,

What do you mean? There has been douches spoiling that event all over the internet since S1 began and it has only been getting worse. Go check out the GOT Facebook page or any GOT youtube video and you’ll see tons of assholes spoiling.

Yeah, some people will say literally everything major that happens in the books then at the end of the post they say OOPS FORGOT SPOILER ALERT LOL.

  • zod,

Wow it sounds awesome. Some things happening very differently from the book like

Ghost saving Sam. Sounds cool though, the more Direwolves the better. Surprised there’s so much Dany already. I thought ep 1 would just be her on the ship, but getting to Astapor, meeting Kraznys, the assassination attempt and meeting Barristan! Thats alot for one episode!

  • Wikipedia is listing series 3 ep 6 as being called “The Climb”
    Anyone heard of this??
Certainly would make sense! I think we know what it refers to!

Since she gets so much screentime in episode 1, she probably won’t get much in episode 2, if any. We still have very many characters to meet again or for the first time that weren’t seen in episode 1.

  • ebevan91,

Yeah I’m most looking forward to catching up with Jaime and Brienne. And Arya as well. Oh and Bran meeting the Reeds! I just want everything!

  • That clip of Brienne easily beating Jaime was hilarious, much better done than the books. It never made sense to me that Jaime was strong enough to fight Brienne, despite being locked in cell for months, and being in terrible shape.

  • JamesL,

Sure, I’m well aware of that but I meant no huge spoiler alert that comes out from all these interviews with the cast, like “There is going to be a HUGE twist for Robb”or “I’m most excited about Robb’s story arc this season”

  • Michelle Fairley is lovely.

That scene of the RW terrifies me. Episode 9 will be very hard to watch.

That’s because Jaime’s just that good!
    Not Today,

    You’d better spoiler that…

  • So when does the review embargo for season 3 end? And if there isnt one, when can we expect reviews?

well, he is the best (arguably) in the land so that’s why he could match her even out of practice. if we see him easily getting beat by her it takes away him losing his sword hand because we haven’t really seen him do much fighting. so if the only time we see him fight it’s a draw (vs ned) and easily getting knocked down by brienne then the audience won’t really care if he loses his sword hand because they’ll think he wasn’t very good anyways which is so not true.

  • Solar,

Yeah I agree completely. And I don’t think of him vs Ned as being a draw. I think he was just toying with Ned then Ned got stabbed (Or horse fell on him in the book) and then jaime didnt want to kill an injured man.

  • i read books like 10 times and still i cant read tht review. damn!! i want 31st tomorrow. and i want dany to slowdown. wht will she do in next 3 seasons? fuck dario in pyramid?

  • pntrlqst:
    Tyrion Pimpslap,

And Littlefinger’s speech in the “Chaos” teaser.

Thats one of my favorite things about the show, they choose titles that have so many diffirent meanings in the show. The Nightlands for example, was an episode particularly focused on sex, but it also referred to the Dothraki afterlife. A Man without Honor was relevant both to Jaime with his kinslaying, but also to Theon, and Xaro Xoan Doxos’s coup. The same idea seems to have been applied this season, especially if you look at the synopsis of “Kissed by Fire”.

  • kvothe,

I’ve been trying to work out how many seasons they can make out of the books that out. I think 5 comfortably, six if they add stuff. For Dany for instance –

I assume season 3 will end with the Yunkai surrender and her riding through the crowds to Mysha! Myhsa!

Series 4 will chronicle her journey to Meereen, then when she gets there the siege with Jorah and Selmy etc going through the sewers then will end with her taking her seat as queen of Meereen and somone placing a golden crown with three dragon heads.

Season 5 will then be her ruling Meereen, then her marriage to Hizdahr, Sons of the Harpy stuff then as a finale the fighting pit chaos with Drogon coming down and flying off with Dany.

If they try to pad that out to six seasons then it will seem a bit drawn out… Anyhoo guess we’ll have to see how it pans out!

Boring season 4 for Danny, I’d say…. How can they pretend to sell another season of her conquering yet another foreign city?

  • zod:
It seems that “Inside Wildlings” is now available on demand… darquemode, where are you?:D

I completely forgot about that one.

  • i just realized something – i don’t think i wanna see RW anymore ;p is 1:41 Cat realizing what’s going on? god it’s gonna hurt…

  • Hounded,

I’ve been wondering about her series arc too.

Part of me hoped that they would make each season about the conquest of one city. Tis year would end at Astapor, next year at Yunkai, the following at Meereen’s door etc…
I realy did not expect that since “Mysha!” was the obvious season finale.

That said, there could be a lot going on inside Meereen if the expand. They could explore the suitors for Dany’s hand (and dragons) in moe detail or more political rivals in the city. Of course they could go into more detail about the Sons of the Harpy rebellion. That could be an entire season’s arc if played right…. maybe. Hell, maybe they will give us Strong Belwas to take up a couple episodes wth introductions and pit fighting etc….

For many people none of those plots were satisfactory in the books, but with some tweaking I think each could have potential. It just has to be organized better and laid out into more linear seasonal arcs so it does not feel as stagnant as the books.

Another thing to consider is that by that point of the TV series we will have more POVs in play and more regions in play. There could be more concentraion on the newer regions and Dany could have 6 episodes per season instead of 8 or 9. That should help to stop it from feeling quite so drawn out.

  • zod,

I don’t see it on my OnDemand. I will check again a little later tonight though as I have been waiting for it too!

  • I’m with some of the others in that I’m not liking the way Jaime/Brienne is looking. But they’re only short clips so I’m happy to wait for it to actually happen before getting too uspet :)

  • oierem,

I think a season 4 like that for Dany could work if done well. Maybe season 4 will be Dany-lite as we we have lots of stuff going on at The Wall with the battle and then Stannis’ arrival and lots of stuff in King’s Landing with Joffrey’s wedding and Tyrion’s trial and the red viper and Tyrion’s murders :pause for breath: and will have new characters I expect like Victarion, Crows’eye and Damphair…

  • oierem: out. I think 5 comfortably, six if they add stuff. For Dany for instance –

    If

Well Dany’s book 5 arc was frustrating as well since she spent the whole book in Mereen

  • Joshua Taylor,

Yeah but Jaime despair at being nothing without his sword hand is kind of silly if he’s just a mediocre swordsman as he’s been shown to be on the show so far. Beethoven going deaf made him despair because he was … well, Beethoven, and music was his life. If he’d been, say, a baker, it wouldn’t have been as big a deal ;)

  • I don’t know, in the books, all we have is Jaimie word that it was an even fight, and if Jaimie thought it was even then he was probably losing. I mean he didn’t really wound Brienne and Brienne defeated him without having to really wound him. That kind of sounds like someone who got their ass kicked to me. I’m not totatlly sure what people are expecting given the above.

I doubt it. If that were true Jaime would have stated that his spars with Ilyn Payne were even, but instead Jaime admits that he got his ass kicked by Payne

  • House Snow,

FYI, Jaime does actually wound Brienne (he touches her thigh with his sword, and there’s a lot of very sexual imagery about the blood on her thighs – and the fight in general.) But it’s not just Jaime’s recollection of the fight that we must rely on; later on, we get Brienne’s POV on the fight and she remembers that “It had been all that she could do to keep his blade at bay. He was weak from his imprisonment and chained at the wrists. No knight in the Seven Kingdoms could have stood against him at his full strength, with no chains to hamper him. Jaime had done many wicked things, but the man could fight.”

Not that I am invested in the silly competitions about who the Top Five Swordsmen in Westeros are, but I think it’s critical for Jaime and Brienne’s developing respect for each other that they are evenly matched in that fight.

  • Not happy with how incompetent Jaime looks in the clip. He’s supposed to be a great swordsman and not some amateur who falls on his face.

  • ducky:

He’s been sitting in a cell for a while and his hands are tied. Cut the man some slack :)

  • Attn Game of Thrones fans.

Now I know I babble a lot on here but it is only because I know everyone on here has a similar taste for entertainment. As far as TV shows go, IMHO, Game of Thrones ranks my #1 favorite by far in relation to all the other TV shows playing right now.

    #1 Game of Thrones
    #2 Shameless
    #3 Spartacus
    #4 Homeland
    #5 Newsroom
#6 Vikings (moving up in my ranking very quickly)

I just finished watching the last episode that aired tonight of Vikings and if you havn’t gave this series a try yet you’re in for a real treat.

It is amazing how if a series casts the right lead actor who can bring a persona to the series how much a difference it can make. Vikings is an excellent example of this.

Travis Fimmel is amazing! I am hooked… And his wife, the Shield Maiden, she is also amazing…

  • The Jaime-Brienne clip is ridiculous. Jaime shouldn’t be staggering on the floor whilst Brienne is not even looking down to see where he is (but instead staring into space). It looks so unrealistic and is not true to the books either.

All in all, I’m fine with Brienne looking the clear winner but the fight should be tight for at least a while. As it is, I’m suddenly worried that they’ve messed up this scene.

  • oierem: Boring season 4 for Danny, I’d say…. How can they pretend to sell another season of her conquering yet another foreign city?

Agreed that’d be a quite boring season 4 for Dany. My bet:

Season 3 ends with the conquest of Mereen and the “mysha” stuff (I know that’s supposed be in Yunkai, but that’s simple to change). I also don’t think they’ll keep the sewers mission for budget reasons.

Season 4 would be the whole Dany’s struggle in Meereen. They could keep the rebellion and Sons of the Harpy x Shavepates and the Yunkai war, but cut out the new fighting companies. They’ll keep the Hazzea incident and the marriage with Hizdahr, which would justify refusing Quentyn. But no Green Grace and I particularly don’t care about Strong Belwas. The poisoning attempt could be laid out in some other way. Season finale with the fighting pit and Dany flying off with Drogon.

  • For argument’s sake:

Examples of Jaime’s superior swordsmanship used in the show.

“Lord Snow” : Jaime, Ser Barristan and Robert discuss their first kills. Even Selmy seems impressed.

“The Wolf and the Lion” : Jaime and Ned are practically equals in their little duel. With a slight edge to Ned until the Lannister crony ends the combat.

“A Golden Crown”: Tyrion requests for his brother to fight in his stead against Ser Vardis.

“Baelor”: Jaime is captured. It is overheard that he killed a dozen men before he was captured. He proposes Robb to a duel. Robb refuses for reasons that are made very clear.

“Garden of Bones” the ill fated flatulent and full bladdered Lannister bannerman discuss his prowess compared to the Mountain, Loras Tyrell and others.

“A Man Without Honour”; Ser Alton has a slight case of hero worship for Jaime. Jaime also mentions that he was Selmy’s squire, cementing his efficacy with the sword due to the prowess of his great mentor. I wonder why? Little did that help him…
-Karstark reminds the audience that he killed a dozen men at Riverrun before his capture.

Clearly the showrunners have subtlety and overtly made the audience aware of Jaime’s more than adequate capabilities with a blade. Ensuring that the Unsullied can read between the lines that without his sword hand, not just his vanity is weakened but his sense of self.

Not to mention the three or four trailers we have seen in the past few weeks of a beautiful aerial shot of Jaime and Brienne clashing swords on the bridge. The image was evocative of Obi Wan vs Anakin. In other words: an epic duel. That will probably at some point include a blindsiding punch by Brienne. I could be wrong and I’ll gladly eat crow if that’s the case, but I really don’t think we should judge 3 or 4 frames in a promo that is not even a trailer.

  • Arthur,

Love all those shows except the Newsroom. To me it is a waste of Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer (the writing for her character stuns me)Alison Pill, Jane Fonda, Sam Waterson even Olivia Munn. It could have been something incisive like The Insider or Good Night and Good Luck, or Network, or season 5 of The Wire. But no.

And before you respond to my condemnation of the series I urge you to watch The Hour. For one thing it has Dominic West, Ben Whishaw (Q from Skyfall), the gorgeous Romola Garai but also Oona Chaplin, Burn Gorman, Andrew Scott (Moriarity fron Sherlock) and Anton Lesser…Qyburn himself! And after watching Lesser on the Hour I know his Qyburn is going to be good! Think Newsroom but late 50s BBC with a Mad Men look but with spies and conspiracies.

  • Joshua Taylor,

That’s a quite comprehensive list but I think people will remember what they saw onscreen rather than anything reported secondhand. Why would someone remember what the flatulent soldiers, for example, were discussing before they were eaten by a direwolf? ;) In other words if Jaime is so easily bested by Brienne as it appears at the moment, then I don’t think the image of him sprawling in the mud at her feet will be countered by a bunch of throwaway lines everyone has long forgotten. With that said, obviously we haven’t seen the whole thing (though it has appeared in so many previews that it almost seems like we have!) and obviously in a short time, we will know for sure!

Aren’t you glad though that it wasn’t another PW in Season 3 argument? I know I am :)

  • Gonfaloniere,

Personally, if non readers can’t pick up those subtleties that I have listed (i wrote that on a mobile btw) to Seven Hells with them. This is HBO, true fans of the show, Unsullied or otherwise have been told the Jaime is an expert swordsman many a time in the narrative.

Argh. All this knee jerking about one or two frames of film, that shows the Kingslayer knocked down when we haven’t even seen the whole fight yet makes me wonder what so am even arguing about. :-)

  • yeah at least it isn’t aPW argument. but i swear this will piss me off more than anything if brienne easily beats jaime. i’m not one to freak out over little changes but that would really make my nerd rage. most of the fight scene we’ve seen looks pretty even. yet this one clip brienne is using one hand and just easily knocking jaime back until he falls on his face. no no no no no. i don’t care how out of shape/out of practice he is. no one can easily best the kingslayer like that! but i digress, i’ll wait until we see the full fight before i freak out.

  • It looks like Brienne is looking at someone(likely Locke and his crew arriving). I’m guessing the fight will be fairly close, but will be a shorter version than the one in the books. I just hope they can properly convey that Jaime is weakened and in chains. I don’t think we will see Jaime slicing Brienne’s thigh or Brienne breaking his nose in this fight. Neither of them look the worse for wear after their sparring session.

  • Joshua Taylor,

Have you ever heard about the rule “show, don’t tell”?

Having people praise a character for one of his skill is a good way to build some kind of anticipation about him. But if you don’t actually show his skill at some point, you can’t expect the audience to believe in the exisence of said skill.

All of your examples mean nothing. Go ask TV viewers how strong they think Jaime is with a sword: most of them will tell you they believe he is actually all talk.

  • Solar,

Maybe Brienne has already won (which to be fair she does) and Jaime tries to get back up again and she’s just knocking him back down? That would mean doing away with the dunking his head in the river thing but hey just an idea.

I really liked the bit in the book where he cuts her thigh and the blood drips down her legs – nice sexual imagery there but I can’t see that happening in the show – she wears too much armor!

  • *sighs*. This is like the “Jon is being portrayed as stupid argument” from last year. This year it will be “Jamie is portrayed as a stupid swordsman.”

And the show hasn’t even started yet.

Thanks for reminding me why I will stay away from all episode recaps this year, both reader and non-reader ones :)

  • Arthur,

I’ve seen the first 2 Vikings. They seem promising so far. Should I keep with it?
And Spartacus is as absurd and rediculous as ever! haha got to love it though.

Do you mean shows running right now or shows around in general?

The shows I’m watching right now are Spartacus, Vikings, Community, Parks & Rec, The Office US and The Walking Dead.

My favorite shows running in general are Breaking Bad (Couldn’t chose between GoT and BB I love them both too much) Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, The Borgias, Homeland (although season 2 sucked), American Horror Story, Boardwalk Empire, Black Mirror, Utopia, Sherlock… think thats about it!

  • zod,

But if you don’t actually show his skill at some point, you can’t expect the audience to believe in the exisence of said skill.

Exactly! Especially in a visual medium, it’s the images that will stay with you, not completely unmemorable lines of dialogue. And the imagery doesn’t back up what the words are saying. *shrugs* We’ll know soon enough, and I’m trying to keep expectations to a minimum so I can only be presently surprised.

  • Tyrion Pimpslap:

Actually we have already seen a shot of Brienne backhanding Jaimie so an approximation of that is in.

  • zod,

S’funny the non-reader fans that I know of think him a badass but hate him for his actions.

Also “my examples mean nothing”: harsh man.

Fandom is getting intense by the day. Come on 31st!

  • When it comes to the fight between Jaime and Brienne I would hope, and assume, that what we see here is the beginning of it, where the rust of captivity is at it’s highest. We have already seen that there’s more to it in other trailers and it makes sense to show Jaime weakened at first, to drive home that he isn’t in good shape at all, while it would be quite dumb to have the fight end in such fashion. No matter how badass Brienne is she was never even close to Jaime (when fit and healthy), which is a point really needs to be driven home to maximize the impact of his eventual loss.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I love almost all of what I’ve seen so far of season 3 (which is not much!). But this one thing does worry me because it seems like it has been shot in a stylistic rather than realistic way.

If Brienne is looking away because Locke has turned up, or something, that would make some sense. But otherwise that stare is artificial and not great. I’ll wait till it comes out before judging it though – from what we’ve heard Jaime and Brienne’s scenes this year are fantastic.

Btw, thanks for the link Joshua. Great review.

  • Joshua Taylor: Also “my examples mean nothing”: harsh man.

English isn’t my first language.. that’s where some of the “harshness” probably comes from. ;)

  • Hounded,

It would be bold, as Dany is a fan-favorite so they will be terrified to limit her involvement in any season of the show. That being said, I think it would be great if she spends a lot of time off-screen. Imagine if we see her like in Episodes 1 and 2 and then only again in ep 10, except her Dragons are even BIGGER!

Alas, they probably pay her so much that the HBO execs *insist* that she feature a lot.

  • hi
    please help me
my english language is very weak and not understand what speak in this video
    please type me.thanx

I doubt that. I mean, I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve never fought with a sword in my life and I’d still be pretty fricking upset to LOSE ONE OF MY HANDS. I don’t think the audience needs to have seen thta much of Jaime’s skill, only to know that he lives in a world where your ability to fight a) saves your life, regularly, and b) basically is your entire standing as a man (see also: all that Night’s Watch stuff with Sam and Jon in S1).

  • Joshua Taylor,

Agree about The Newsroom 100%…it’s just Sorkin doing what he does which is create a show around a group of white people who spend every episode telling each other how smart and talented they are…it worked for the first few seasons of The West Wing but then it just devolved into self congratulatory nonsense…and that is exactly what The Newsroom became about half way through the pilot episode…anyway back on topic…great promo vid, Rose Leslie is freaking gorgeous…I’m officially obsessed
