  • I am looking forward to Tyrions Talk with Tywin most of all. 2 of my favorite actors on the show.

I also want to see Tywin confront Joffrey. Anyone know if that happens this episode?

I wonder how they introduce the Queen Of Thorns, I don’t think she’s in the first episode. Why not?

  • Can’t wait to see the ep again, first time around I missed the opening sequence (how I managed to botch this, I have no idea). Ep 1 is truly great, though.

  • A bit puzzling in the critics quotes preview that shot of Dany sailing into Astapor and there seems to be fire and destruction already occurring?

  • Hmmm…

There is so much I am looking forward to seeing this episode…

Per some of the critics, Episode 1 and 2 are a bit slow but episodes 3 and up take off.

I can’t wait to see how beautiful the colors, locations and cinematography will be this season, per critics and WiC himself D&D seemed to even outdo the previous 2 seasons in that aspect. So I can’t imagine how vibrant and beautiful the colors and locations will be for this season.

New characters, I can not wait to meet all the characters all of us have been waiting to see and praying didn’t get cut from the TV series. I really hope we meet the Reeds in episode one. Been looking forward to that for a longtime now. I also really hope D&D found a way for the Reeds to swear their oath to Bran in a great TV viewing manner, like they did with Brienne’s oath to Cat.

Can’t wait to see Marg and the Tyrells mentally maneuver around and dominate Joff and Cersei.

Dany has so much to do this season, last season she was so weak. This season she becomes the mother of dragons Khaleesi we all know and love.

Jon Snow gets to grow up and learn not everything is so black and white, watching him become a man this season will be great.

So much to look forward too!

  • I hope the banter moves reasonably quickly on here. I’ve got 5+ hours to kill and people aren’t talking fast enough over on TWoP. :-P

  • Greatjon of Slumber:
Get tucked in everyone. The night is dark and full of terrors. :)

LOL read this right as the smoke baby popped out on my own little pre-show marathon – perfect timing indeed!

  • The Long Night is over….! So much to look forward to. ASOS is such a great book that I have to agree with DnD. This is the season…

    For Winterfell!

  • I can’t wait to see the Tyrion / Tywin scene. That was one of my favorite interactions between the two characters in the book, so I can’t wait to see what the writer and actors do with it.

Also loved Ciarán Hinds in Rome, looking forward to seeing him in action.

  • Today is going to be one of my more productive days around the apartment. Just looking for things to do to occupy myself. Cleaned the stove, about to do some unnecessary laundry…I wish I didn’t prepare tonight’s dinner last night. Then I could at least just mindlessly chop while watching the back end of season 2. I’ve already gone through both soundtracks twice (though I am skipping the title music, as I don’t want it to be That Song I’ve Heard All Day once the premiere hits).

I waited until the last few hours before Game of Thrones to do all of this weekend’s college work :)

  • I plan to get As High As Honor, enjoy a few glasses of Iron Throne Ale, and enjoy the premiere party tonight. I watch with a bunch of Unsullied, and just one other reader, so it should be a fun night because everyone has been going crazy waiting for it to come back. We’ll be watching The Walking Dead finale (I’ve thought the show has been garbage since the middle of season one, although most of my friends are just now starting to realize how bad the show really is) first, though, at 9:00 – save the best for last. Looking forward to all of the weekly coverage, guys and gals. Enjoy the premiere! Oh, and purists – try not to pop a blood vessel tonight.

  • After a loooong year the show is finally back! I Wanda see more white walkers and more joffrey madness! Hes a great villain

  • Didn’t read the episode details but I’ll be ready with my bowl of popcorn, volume set high and LIGHTS OUT.

Wife is banished to other room.

I love her dearly but she just can’t get into Thrones!

  • Paul,

I seem to recall some smoke and possibly fire outside the gates of Astapor (very nice CG!) but the whole city obviously wasn’t on fire, it’s blown way out of proportions.

Speaking of fires… pay extra notice to Winterfell in the opening credits!

  • Cannot wait to see Ghost save the day! One of the show changes that I’m looking forward to

  • Episode 1-4 seems to have been seen by many. Must say Im very impressed with it not having been leaked. Would have been a disaster for the show.

  • czarnian,

There were premiere events in London and across the US, and then critics received screener discs for review purposes, which I think were watermarked for each individual critic so that any leak would have been traceable.

  • czarnian,

Pretty sure critic screeners are imprinted with some code that gives away who they belong to. Hence, if they’re uploaded, said critic is screwed.

  • czarnian,

The only people who have seen it were critics who were sent screeners by HBO. And if it was leaked HBO would know who did it, as most screeners have the name of the person who they are sent to on the video.

  • Amanda M:
    Isabelle,

Haha that’s great! I had no idea a contest like that existed!!! We do crazy Peep scenes every year at my house. :)

I loved yours–so creative! Are your designs usually inspired by Thrones?

I’m not sure about the rules of that contest (if you have to live in WA to enter), but if you’re able to submit something, you definitely should!!

  • I hope it does well against the Walking Dead finale.

I wonder if anyone else is as amused as I am thinking of the Walking Dead airing on Easter.

  • Isabelle,

Haha we usually do a bunch of random ones. GoT ended up being the theme this year for obvious reasons :P

I’ll have to figure out a way to enter for next year! :D

  • I see that the official countdown was removed from the upper right side of the main page. Now it’s only under the dragon wing. Feels so unnatural. Seven hells. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Omg, is it really the time?? It’s weird when you follow it closely, day by day, and you feel sometimes that it’s not coming fast enough, and the BUM, the clock shows it’s time! I can’t even sleep tonight because of the excitement! Cuz I’ll see it tomorrow of course (Damn the time zones!), but I will read your comments and opinions! So let it begin!

  • And only twelve hours until you can download it here in Germany! :D

Happy viewing to those who can watch it live on actual tv!

  • Happy thrones day everyone

Cant wait for the show and the twitter recap.

    Always support the bottom

  • Hey Coronaking, you don’t have to diwnload it anymore in Germany, it is available tomorrow on Sky Go. I wonder if tomorrow means 0:00, because that would be in 1 1/2 hours;)
Happy to finally be sble to experience Thrones legally at ghe same time as the US…

  • I wore my Thrones t-shirt in the Atlanta airport today and the TSA guy screening me was like: “It’s happening tonight!” And we high-fived after he checked me for explosive residue.

  • I wore my Stannis Baratheon sigil t-shirt today whilst I was out. At the bus station a girl was wearing a Lannister sigil t-shirt, and laughed, acknowledging that they won the Battle of Blackwater. I asked if she had read the books, and she said she hadn’t. I had only one response: “Har!”

It was actually a surreal, yet cool, short conversation. It made my day.

  • Chris77:

Thank you, but unfortunately it’s still Pay-TV I can’t afford. And it will be like a year until the Free-TV-screening again I guess. Sucks to not live in the US sometimes.

  • Rabid Grunt,

HaHa. You know, some kind of extraordinarily illegal and brutal cosplay could permit such an action. Yet, we don’t live in a world where that’s possible. So, that Lannister will continue on.

The most difficult thing about the whole thing though was that she was with her boyfriend or brother or friend, and he hadn’t read the books either, and kept bringing up things that I know the outcome of having read the books. And then they look at me for some kind of response. So, I had to tread carefully otherwise I could’ve spoiled a lot. For example, he said: “I think Robb will end up killing Joffrey and becoming King, but will then be killed by Daenerys because we know how they like to kill of the main characters.” Imagine my difficultly in remaining absolutely silent; I just nodded and said, “I won’t tell you what happens.” :)

I’ve never thought about asking people who haven’t read the books their theories.

    Obviously ; )

Please do! And create the Peep version of the BATTLE AT THE WALL!

  • coronaking,

Well it’s Pay-TV in the US as well. Surely you know someone with Sky though. I have friends at my place for Football and now also for Thrones;)

  • Zena,

I’m actually intrigued as to why they’ve titled it that too. I mean, will there even be a reference in the episode, I wonder?

  • Zena,

The finale of Season 2, Episode 2.10 was titled ” Valar Morghulis ” so maybe they decided to call the Season 3 premiere “Valar Dohaeris” as an homage to the customary greeeting and response.

  • They’ve called it Valar Dohaeris because season 2’s finale was Valar Morghulis. Not happy about it. They should’ve kept this for the season 4 finale.

  • Michael Draycott:

The “Completely Unspoiled Speculation” forum at Television Without Pity is phenomenal. It’s a big group of completely unsullied/unspoiled people commenting on the episodes and speculating what happens next. It is on of my favorite places to read after an episode airs!

It’s been going since season 1 so you’ll want to skip to the end :-)

  • Anguissette1979,

I love the people there-with the exception of Winterisfakingit-they also refer to themselves as Unsullied. I can’t wait to hear their thoughts when they learn from where that term derives! Hahahaha!

  • I am not one to EVER get excited by television but…

Man, I’m frigging EXPLODING with anticipation and excitement.

Huzzah for Game of Thrones day!

  • I love some of the things they come up with. Some are convinced that Robb and Talisa (whom they call Florence Bonesaw or FloBo) are toast this season. Someone just came up with the idea that they think Cat will die this season because of Robb’s dumb decisions. Heeeee! Right on all accounts! :-P

  • Let’s see… so far today I’ve gone grocery shopping, gone for a run, painted the dining room… and now I’m about to make bi bim bap (not very GoT themed – maybe the eat it in Asshai?)- all to keep myself busy for another 3.5 hours.

  • Yago: They’ve called it Valar Dohaeris because season 2′s finale was Valar Morghulis. Not happy about it. They should’ve kept this for the season 4 finale.

It might come up in the Daenerys storyline. Wasn’t this saying a common phrase in Essos? She might hear it when she reaches Astapor. And the translation serves as a title for many storylines – Tyrion now serving Tywin, Selmy beginning to serve Dany, the Wildlings willingly serving Mance. And so on.

  • I’m about to start the final re-watch of season 2 episodes 8 to 10, and then… go to bed and wait till tomorrow before being able to watch S3E01 here in Europe :-(

Enjoy it all of you lucky ones in the US! And I will be disappointed if I don’t read about twitter exploding in the morning news :)

  • Tar Kidho,

I just watched S2E10 this morning. I’m warming to the rework of HotU. I would have liked to see more flaming warlocks (other than Pyat Pree) but I am ok with the amount of visions/prophecy. Someone else on here called it, I think – that Dany wants the Iron Throne but never gets it because she needs to go to the wall and toast White Walkers (then she’ll die and ride with Drogo in the Nightlands) (Spoiler tagged, event though it’s speculation).

I am super excited for her storyline this year. TEAM TARGARYEN!

  • Just caught up on the entire thread. For those of you that don’t have access to HBO…

    http://misclivestream.blogspot.com/p/game-of-thrones.html

They should be streaming it online when the episode premiers
(Moderators: I have no idea if this is frowned upon so by all means please let me know and I’ll remove my comment)

Fair warning: I haven’t used it myself so I can’t vouch for the quality

And by unspoiled we mean about half are really unspoiled and half are pretending to be unspoiled. Still, an entertaining read regardless.

  • Happy GOT day USA. 24 hours to go for us UK viewers. Looking forward to this. Had the good fortune to of be cast as an extra for this season. Enjoy.

  • They are showing the first ep here in Australia 2 hours after it airs in America at 4:30pm today is also a public holiday so I’m going to pretend everyone was given the day off so they could watch game of thrones :)

  • House Snow,

Well… it’s entertaining picking out the ones who seem just a smidge too insightful. It’s a fine line to walk as anyone who seems too obvious gets insta-banned. I’ve feel following the thread regulars since season 1!

  • A woman is watching S2 Ep10 AGAIN (did a marathon of S1 & 2 in the last 2 weeks, one episode per night), then making some crow salad (ok, it’s chicken) for a lovely spring light dinner and Jaqen and I will break open our Easter candy after dinner!!! WoooHooo! Happy Easter and Game of Thrones Day fellow Lords and Ladies of the realm!

PS…Let’s see how long it takes for us to explode Twitter when the episode starts!! Fail whale ahoy!

  • I told Thulsa Doom that the Season 3 Premiere is tonight and asked for advice on what I should do to pass the time until 9pm. I’m currently contemplating on the Tree of Woe. Thanks Mr. Doom!

  • Mrs. H’ghar,

Between GoT and Walking Dead I suspect it won’t take long. I don’t usually jump on twitter until after the episode is over – I don’t want anything to interrupt my enjoyment!

  • Well, this random aside might be a glimpse too far into my psyche…

I was feeling a bit tired and decided to take a nap. Pass some time before the show, make sure I’m alert for tonight; it was a multi-purposed nap. Anyways, I had a very realistic dream where my consciousness travelled forward in time and I was late-middle-aged, in a fair amount of pain, and utterly confused how I had gotten there. My aunts and uncles were there, seemingly very happy with the decades I had missed. My dad was the only one to have not aged, and he seemed disappointed that I never learned his secret and had effectively passed him. Cats could talk, for some reason. I began to wake up just as the woman I figured was my wife started to come into the farmhouse (yeah, no idea) and I realized, still dreaming, that the dream would end before seeing her face.

I think the moral of this dream is to not wish for time to pass too quickly. And I am definitely not letting myself fall asleep again before the premiere.

  • Just came back from my parents’ place, where I spent an hour explaining why I was so excited about a TV show airing tonight. Parents (in their 80s, but very intrigued) don’t have HBO, so I promised to lend the books to fantasy-loving Mom.

Warned her about violence and sex, and that the HBO version is an order of magnitude more so, but I think she’s still tempted to add HBO to their Direct TV.

I may have to lend them my Season One and Season Two Blu-ray sets.

  • Anguissette1979,

I love just how into it they all are, coming up with the whole Spitball wall and such.

stillshimpy has to be my favorite.

Also, Winterfakingit might be gone now, hasn’t posted for several pages I think.

  • Comcast has a “watch free” weekend where you could get episodes of shows like GoT, Dexter, etc. on demand for free for a short period of time. She and my step-dad blew through seasons 1 and 2 in about four days and now I’m wondering how long it’ll take before they break and sign up for HBO :-P

    Hooray for corrupting people!

  • Roopert,

I’ve been hearing this line in my head for weeks. So what did everyone do to prepare?

Myself I went back and watched almost every episode from the first two seasons, but made sure for the most part to watch them completely out of order. So many are so so good — after the Season 9 climaxes for each season, my favorites were Valar Morghulis, A Golden Crown, What Is Dead May Never Die, Fire and Blood, The Old Gods and the New, The Prince of Winterfell, The Wolf and the Lion, and The Pointy End.

  • TheDashingDuckling,

Shimpy always makes such meaty posts, I love it! Every now and then I wish I could post just to tell them all how much I love reading their thoughts, but then I decide that it’s not worth getting banned.

They need to make an “Unsullied Appreciation” thread, and keep it spoiler-free so they can see how much we all enjoy their posts!

  • I got back this morning from a 10 day vacation in Peru. So glad I had something to distract me with. Just picked up some Iron Throne Ale, I am ready for tonight

  • Anguissette1979:

There actually is one on westeros.org, however I don’t like it b/c they won’t let you speculate on people who are really bookwalkers.

  • OMG I am so excited. Hello old loyal members of House Gatewatch! How have you fared these last harsh, bitter, boring months? I am so nervous about the approach of whichever one will be *THAT* episode – you know the one. The one where we all threw the book across the room. I wonder if *THAT* episode is going to go over well with TV viewers who are not book readers. All depends on how they do it, I guess.

Always Support the Bottom! 3 hours to go!!

I’m jealous, I’ve searched high and low for that beer. It’s sold out everywhere! Cheers to HBO for building hype so successfully.

LOL. I have to do the same thing with my 15 year old son. He likes it tooooo much and won’t shut the hell up when viewing. He has long discussions with his AP Honors Lit/Comp teacher about GOT.

  • My country only airs it on Thursday :(
I’m willing to wait so I can watch it on the big screen, though. Good GoT day to all of you US **** lol.

  • Anguissette1979,

Today someone posted they didn’t like Lord Bolton and gave a valid reason why. No one on the board has picked up on it. I hope Roose gets his due this season. I have nothing against the casting and the subtlety of which they have used him but they have to really bring him front and centre.

  • Mrs. H’ghar:

So what did you think upon re-watching? Some things really stuck out that I hadn’t caught on the first/second viewings, so it was really great to revisit some of these episodes. I’d gone back to Blackwater several times, but some of the others were only the 2nd time I’d gotten to them.

  • purplejilly,

*sniff* it’s like a reunion of old friends…annnd then the episode airs and we all want to open each other throats in the message boards. Just kidding. ;-)

  • I’m so pumped! Can’t wait to see some Sansa awesomeness, and Dany finally coming into her own as a full-time badass. Also Sam, so I can give him a hug.

  • Spryte,

Spryte, I had to go to about 6 different places but I finally found it!

Anyways I have no clue where you live but if you have any of the following stores in your area, they might still have some in stock

    Trader Joe’s
    Cost Plus World Market
    BevMo

  • Tar Kidho,

I re-watched S2 this last week, culminating with eps 9 yesterday and 10 this morning. So satisfying! I still haven’t gotten to the animated histories yet (trying to pace myself) so I may start those today.

Happy premiere watching everyone! This week is going to be a great week! Thanks in advance to WiC.net staffers for all the goodness to come!

  • Joshua Taylor,

yeah, that’s a fantastic episode, if only for the great conversations. The ones between Bronn/Tyrion/Varys, the episode ending conversation (again) Tyrion and Varys, the great Stannis bit – “First we ate the horses…” – stuff, and Yara’s excellent “Don’t die so far from the sea” imploring to Theon. Great stuff, so glad others like it.

  • Dark Star: Hollyoak: Didn’t read the episode details but I’ll be ready with my bowl of popcorn, volume set high and LIGHTS OUT.Wife is banished to other room.I love her dearly but she just can’t get into Thrones!

Now that would have been something I’d have gone to class for. (I went to class anyway, but it would’ve been so much better if we’d had GoT discussions!)

Also, my wife will probably be shut away with Hollyoak’s. She liked S1 well enough, but the premiere of S2 killed her interest completely. (She’s not fantasy fan to begin with.) I’ve tried all through s2 and again with the blu-rays to get her interested, but nope, not doing!) So fine, off to t’other room wit ye, wife! (said in my best Francis Magee Yoren accent.)
    So excited for tonight!

  • Happy viewing everyone! I wish I could watch it tonight but alas, being European has its disadvantages so I have to wait for another day before the episode airs here on Swedish television!

  • Joshua Taylor,

They were posting about him all last season, basically saying that anyone who comes from a castle called “The Dreadfort” can’t be a good guy – and how “The Bastard of the Dreadfort” is even less uplifting. I guess they’re in for a treat this season!

  • Hi-Fi,

She could be good for sure….

So many British actresses in that mid 50’s to 60’s range. I’m not worried they will find someone for the role. I still picture Gina McKee (who I meant to mention before saying Olivia Williams by mistake) even if she may be a few years too young for the role.

    ETA:
Another role they should have fun casting is Genna Lannister, assuming she makes it in with Emmon Frey. I think they will…
So many British actresses that could excel in the role….
    -Geraldine McEwan
    -Jennifer Saunders
    -Julie Walters
    -Lesley Nicol
    -Miranda Richardson
    -Sylvestra Le Touzel

  • I watched the last two seasons with a friend and I promised her we’d watch the first ep together, but she’s got no time until thursday… however I doubt I can be strong enough to wait four days more^^
Anyway, I’ll go to sleep now (living in Germany) and see what the world looks like tomorrow

So damn excited for way too many scenes :)

  • David The Grey: So fine, off to t’other room wit ye, wife! (said in my best Francis Magee Yoren accent.)

My hubby will sit with me through the original airings but he has no patience for my first re-watch (with HBO’s in-episode guide on) or second re-watch when the DVDs come out, or third re-watch with commentary turned on… I think he thinks that I’m a little bit obsessed.

Your hubby knows nothing (, Jon Snow)!

  • I already know what happens in these episode because I read all the spoilers, but I’m still so ansious about the new characters (and the old characters too)! I miss so much the main theme of the show giving me shivers down the spine.

    aSoS is the best book.

  • Anguissette1979,

I recall that, but nothing about “oh he looks creepy” “or on a rewatch I noticed…”.

The one time I got frustrated with them was after “Garden of Bones” aired. They were NOT fans of the Shadow baby aka “Lost smoke monster”. Most newbies weren’t though. I remember my UnSullied friend was all WTF about it and I just laughed and said well they did a great job and its right from the book. That frustrated him even more lol!

But yeah they are in for quite the season.

  • Joshua Taylor,

I like the subtlety of the casting and portrayal so far. The Starks are too -good- to let obvious villainous behavior by their bannermen go on overtly, so the character as described in the book, all pale and creepy just to look at, with their sigil of the flayed man…I dunno. I think it’s wisely downplayed on the show just so Roose doesn’t come off as obviously someone to be on edge around. I’m guessing as the season wears on, little cracks in Roose’s facade are going to show. It should be good

  • Michel,

Same here… I completely and thoroughly spoiled myself this season (longtime book reader), but hearing someone else describe something and seeing it for yourself are two entirely different experiences. Even if I knew exactly what each scene was I would STILL be pumped for 2.25 hours from now!

  • Hi-Fi,

My choice for the role is Gillian Anderson because I believe Lady Dustin will have a role to play in the TWOW and therefore something Anderson can sink her teeth into.

But, Anderson is staging her redebut stateside this spring with Hannibal and then a pilot in the fall. So she may be busy.

Maybe I’ll ask her when I visit the Ottawa Comic Con ;-)

    purplejilly,

*sniff* it’s like a reunion of old friends…annnd then the episode airs and we all want to open each other throats in the message boards. Just kidding. ;-)

Believe it or not, I am just going to try and enjoy the show this year, and let the gates and gripes go! (I say that NOW) My nerves just can’t take too much stress this year, what with the economy in the US falling apart. So I am going to try and just enjoy, and not rant too much. I’m hoping they have learned from our rants these past two years, and if they haven’t picked up on the gems we’ve offered by now, there is nothing else we can do..

I was even going to wait and watch the show on Mondays, instead of Sunday nights, so I did not get meself too hyped up and unable to sleep and therefore exhausted the next morning at work, but I have already let that idea go.

Almost no one in my immediate work area watches GoT, so I am going to go cubicle roaming tomorrow, shouting out “Game of Thrones? Anyone? Anyone?” until I find a fellow watcher in the office to bond with and discuss!

  • Joshua Taylor,

If they show him being leeched at Harrenhal that should up the “creepy” factor for them. I agree that he hasn’t been overtly creepy thus far. Both he and Karstark had lines last season so that should tip them off that they are more than “Stark Bannermen A and B”

  • mead,

I feel ya! I am so antsy right now, I’m tempted to start with the alcoholic beverages now, but I’m afraid I’d start slamming em’ down to make the time pass, and well, I could drink ALOT in 2-1/4 hours! I think I should wait til the show starts…….sigh

  • Off topic:

I was just watching 2×07 and saw Rorge and Biter with the soldiers of Harenhall, I think their last appearance was in that episode, since the Brave Companions doesn’t exist on the show, do you guys think we are gonna see them again?

  • LIVING ON THE WEST COAST RIGHT NOW IS BRUTAL!!!

    *stops hyperventilating*

Seriously – damn you all for getting to see it 3 hours before the rest of us.
    May the Others take you!

  • Zack,

Yeah I agree. I makes sense to down-play Roose’s creepiness so his betrayal will be more of a surprise. Once he’s Warden of the North in the show though I would definitely like to see some of that creepiness on display. A scene with him lying naked on a table being leeched would be a good start!

  • Zack,

Nice. Watching Roose’s mannerisms was one of the highlights of the rewatch for me. Michael McElhatton is excellent in the role. I think the casting in this show is brilliant overall because they don’t play the characters like they are right out of the gate, they let the characters BECOME that character we know and love/hate. The handling of Roose and Cersei is a prime example of this.

  • spacechampion: Did the Easter dragon leave anyone dragon eggs this year?

OH CRAP! That would have been awesome to do. I could have drawn the scales with one of those wax crayons before coloring. Next year!!!

  • When it comes to Roose, I would have done it so he was hiding behind a facade until Jaime, without knowing (or the viewer knowing) beforehand arrives in Harrenhal. Then we see the “True” creepy Roose. It would be even better when he shows up back behind his facade again probably in the episode before the RW.

I think he has to really make an impact when Jaime meets him though, and play him up through Locke and Ramsay.

  • Been waiting for this since June. Absolutely can’t wait :D

Big credit due to the site runners here for keeping us all informed of trailers, casting and news every step of the way.

  • Joshua Taylor,

Well stated. I agree. I think that’s the case for the majority of the roles, they might seem off at first but they get to the right spot quickly enough. Any miscasts? I guess some people don’t like Asha (I do!)…is she the most controversial casting so far? Or character most different from the book portrayal?

  • At my house we started watching the season 2 repeats at 11am. I am cooking Dornish hens and stuffing for dinner. The local grocery store was sold out of lamprey. We had to buy pigeons for the pie instead

  • AshStorm,

I think the previous years it only went up on HBO GO once the airing had finished. Had to wait an extra hour and it bummed me out. Maybe that was only the first season though, or maybe I’m just remembering it wrong and it went up so we could watch it at 9ET…

but you’re reassuring me. I really hoped I would get to see it on time.

    Joshua Taylor,

Oh ITA! Carice is such a fantastic pick for Mel. I had been hoping they’d cast Asian with her but we don’t always get what we want and often the show is better than what we imagine. I think she’s absolutely stunning. Any scene with her and Stannis or Davos, or all three together, is generally one of my favorites.

I also concur about Gemma Whelan. I don’t know how anyone could be anti-Yara after her talk with Theon at Winterfell especially. I do wish they’d chosen to give us pretty much an unchanged from the book intro to the character, but that’s been my only disappointment regarding Asha. And the abridged intro we did get was pretty good even so.

  • Zack,

Asha/Yara was fine for me. Her scene mocking Theon with the troops in “Ghost of Harrenhal” sold me on her completely. Not to mention her confession in “Prince of Winterfell”

Not to crazy about how the Mountain turned out.

Unlike a lot of people I LOVE CvH as Melisandre.

  • WiC.net rules…. thanks a lot for all the timely updates, curious speculations, awesome and intriguing interviews and being there to provide the precious nourishment in the Red Waste of non – GoT months.

    9 o’ clock is coming!!!

  • Little less than 5 hours till it airs here in Mexico… Gods, just can’t wait ANYMORE!! thankfully i don’t mind spoilers and will come check what you all thought about it before actually getting to watch it :)

  • Seb,

Yeah… I definitely think that most of the regulars truly are unsullied though. That would be a long charade to keep up over three seasons. I’m sure that some of the more infrequent posters are spies. :-P

This is disappointing. The walking dead finale starts at the same time in the US. Not sure why Game of Thrones does not. Oh we’ll ill burn 2 hours with the walking dead an talking dead and wait it out for the last hour

  • Anguissette1979,

My wife never sat through any re-airings, even in Season One. However, her PC is not all that far from mine in our den, so she had to hear all of the interviews and clips I played, and my giggles/gasps while reading the boards here at WiC.net. If I had a penny for every time I’m sure she rolled her eyes at me… oh well! No room is safe from GoT in our house! Muahahahaha!

  • Zack: AshStorm, I think the previous years it only went up on HBO GO once the airing had finished. Had to wait an extra hour and it bummed me out. The thing to do is to log on early, then you won't be attempting to do so at the same time as most. That always seems to be the biggest problem with HBOGO, that can't always handle the traffic for such big premieres as this.

  • Is the TWD season finale going to happen at the same time of GOT? I hope not, I love both series (of course GOT more), I don’t want any of them to get a low audience

  • Just finished eating Sister Stew from The Inn at the Crossroads cookbook and I am stoked for tonight!!!

  • Just finished eating Sister Stew from The Inn at the Crossroads cookbook and I am stoked for tonight!!!

  • I can’t wait for Tyrion to finally get the respect that he deserves, or any of these storylines to play out for that matter. It feels like it has been forever since season two ended, but the premiere is finally here! I hope that I don’t miss it because I am traveling for my job at DISH today. Even if I do I can just catch up by streaming the recording from my DVR at home to my iPad with DISH Anywhere, so nothing will stop me from watching tonight!

  • Ahhh I’m jealous of everyone who can watch this live! I live in Europe and gotta wait till tomorrow, yearning for an online stream!

  • Anguissette1979: The “Completely Unspoiled Speculation” forum at Television Without Pity is phenomenal. It’s a big group of completely unsullied/unspoiled people commenting on the episodes and speculating what happens next. It is on ofmy favorite places to read after an episode airs!

It’s been going since season 1 so you’ll want to skip to the end :-)

Okay, I had way too much fun reading through some of those posts. Thanks so much for the link!

Am thinking I’ll go for a walk now–gotta separate from my computer before an organ explodes from the excitement and anticipation.

  • The show is available almost immediately on HBOGo. The problem is of course everyone else watching it at the same time, and so the quality is bad. Sometimes the HBO Go version goes up a few minutes after the episode starts, but it doesn’t take long, generally.

  • SO EXCITED!

Have to wait until the west coast time (a few hours from now), but I’ll have 10-12 people coming over for a premiere party!

  • AshStorm,

Not any more, I am in the UK and they just killed the video feed. Should have been more covert concerning the feed, we GoT busted.

  • HBO brasil will air at the same time huh
I thought last season was one hour after, but seems I was wrong. Can’t wait!

  • AshStorm,

Tough choice between the 2 shows, but I will watch GoT and DVR Walking Dead and watch immediately after. That is if I can get over the excitement!!

  • Ours is the Fury,

Just recently, Apple added the ability to stream HBO Go from an iPhone or iPad to Apple TV via AirPlay. I don’t know if the quality would be better doing that, but it might — if you have the hardware, of course.

  • Arkash,

I wish there was a way to know what handles everyone uses on the other sites. I’m the same on Westeros.org and EW.com comments as here and just plain Anguissette on TWoP.

  • Mike Chair,

Well I have Apple TV and an iPhone but I don’t know how to set that up. I’ll have to check it into before next week. Thanks!

  • 20 hours to go over here in the UK, we have a Games premiere party set for 8:30 tonight (GMT) at the FSU London Study Centre.

Go Dany! Dracarys! Go Noles! (FSU dog soldiers join Dany’s army)

Nothing better than watching GoT with fellow fans, intelligent college girls and boys.

  • Really, it’s available on HBO right afterward? I always thought it was the next day! That makes my whole night. I have HBO Go access and buy the occasional other show I watch on Amazon because it’s cheaper than cable, but I was mega sad tonight because I thought I’d have to wait for tomorrow for both WD and GoT.

  • I made a feast of summer greens salad, crusty wheat bread, buttered carrots, white beans and bacon, and roast partridges with butter sauce.

  • brownsnow,

It seems like Sunday nights in the Spring/Summer season is when all the cable channels are scheduling their best Flagship series…

So many series I enjoy and look forward to are all in Sunday nights at around the same time slot. I can’t possibly DVR them all so thank god for OnDemand!

  • Seven and a bit hours to go here in N.Z. Can’t wait! Thanks for answers re. Dany heading into Astapor.

  • Only 30 more minutes! I’ll be back to post in the recap thread once I watch the episode a couple of times.

  • Well, the walk never happened, but a nice cup of tea certainly did. Thank you, Turncloak, for the link to Larry’s video–it’s just about the perfect length to tide me over before the episode starts!

    valyrian:
I love to read this forum! Some of the speculation they came up with is absolutely hilarious!!!!

    Seriously!!!

Well, happy watching, everyone! Looking forward to reading the threads later tonight!

  • Literally just fixed my HBO Go; it inexplicably had parental controls on! Was getting worried!

  • Get the popcorn ready! Turn off the phones! Go to the bathroom, turn off the lights…

    Game of Thrones time!

  • HBO just had a promo for HBO GO with Depeche Mode’s I Just Can’t Get Enough

That makes this Mode happy! XD

  • Joshua Taylor:

I didn’t realize there were people who didn’t like CvH as Melisandre. That makes no earthly sense to me.

  • Did they really have to remind of us of “Where are my dragons!”?
    Seriously? XD

    Game on.

  • Okay this is agonizing. Damn HBO Go. The episode is available but I guess their servers can’t handle this load and I can’t access it.

  • I don’t like that change from the book it made Sam seem a true coward. He did get the ravens off just not with the notes, and WHY THE HELL is Ghost not with Jon!?!

  • List of things it takes to get Kristofer Hivju into character as Tormund.
    Step 1. Wake up.
    The end.

  • Me just wants to watch the KISS!

I might be the only shipper of them here, but yes I love those two. Lol

  • Did they hang Peter Jackson at Harrenhal? XD
I see the first “-gate” of the season already!

  • I may be missing the goddamn episode but in a way…if their servers are so overloaded that people can’t even get in, it appears any worries about going up versus Walking Dead are needless.

  • Zack:

If ANYONE ELSE manages to get it running on HBO GO, please make yourself known.

  • God I’ve been waiting on this conversation between Tywin and Tyrion.

    Q@!#$%%#@$%@#$% YOU TYWIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve been waiting for that Tywin and Tyrion conversation since the end of S2. Charles Dance did NOT fail to deliver.

    Amazing.

  • Color me shocked but I guess the trailer scenes of Tyrion behind the door was not a cell and Sansa and Shae at the docks is not an outgoing trip….

Let’s see what other PW “evidence” can be disproved in the first episode of the season. XD

  • The revelation of Barristan Selmy was a bit rushed, albeit a great way to end the 1st episode.

Would’ve preferred as it is in the books, but I guess we’ll have to wait how Daenerys knows about Jorah’s treason.

  • Tywim made me so mad……..I was crying for Tyrion. I cannot wait til ….well you know, but gawd….that was so painful for Tyrion.

  • Other than the extremely unnatural scene between Jon & Mance, good episode. I don’t like how they introduced Mance and changed the story Jon told, seemed sloppy and downright stupid. We also fail to get any build on Barristan’s return, but ok.

  • Grrrr HBO Canada never gives us the next ep preview! We gotta wait till they put it up :( I need to knoooww

  • It was EPIC. Really liked it. However, I am truly missing Arya. Need to see her!

    Best things:

-Margaery at the orphanage (really liked it)
    -Cersei’s talk with Tyrion
-The dead in Harrenhall, with Bolton and Karstark talking was pretty well made
-All Daenerys’ scenes, really loved them. And I am in love with Astapor, it is beautiful!
    -Mance’s introduction

  • Matt,

He was awarding people who served in Blackwater.

Great episode, but I must say I wasn’t too pleased with the fact that Mance didn’t sing :( but Jon’s speech was awesomely delivered, go Kit!!!

  • Damn, that scene of Tywin humiliating Tyrion was really much, much better than in the book. I almost teared up a bit. It made me completely hate Tywin in less than 30 seconds LOL

  • This ep was amazing! So many things I loved! But some things bothered me a lot… Like the way they handled Sam. Made him seem even more a coward. I hope he gets to proove there’s more to him on their way to the wall and there’s still a dragonglass scene to come … and why is Ghost not with Jon?? I hope he finds him… But a scene that I really missed was… Jorah kissing Dany on the ship. I don’t even ship these two not at all, but I still wanted that kiss to happen. If they don’t make it happen in a still to come episode I’ll be really pissed! Not so sad about Arstan being who he really is from the beginning though, I expected that. The audience knows Selmy, wouldn’t be as exciting as it was in the books… Missing Strong Belwas dearly though. I still have some little hope that he will eventually show up. Tywin – Tyrion was amazing. Felt so so sorry for Tyrion! Though, Tywin does have a point. Tyrion would turn Casterly Rock into a whorehouse xD

  • That episode was great. The Giant looked great. Some of the changes felt odd but not bad I guess. I felt like Mel seemed more menacing and formidable than she did last season. Natalie Dormer / Margerie is rockin’ it. The little girl / warlock thing was neat. Dragons looked kickass. Seeing the Harpie flags behind the unsullied got me excited about what’s to come.

  • Bee Beep,

Yea I know they made Sam look cowardly! he is so brave in the books, the way he confronted the white walker and thrust his dagger into its cold heart with heaps of courage and confidence! They make it seem as though hes clumsy and cowardly in the TV show and will probably make him kill the other while being terrified and getting almost lucky by it killing the other, which of course doesn’t happen like that in the books, where Sam is a proven symbol of heroism at this point in the book! Not being sarcastic one bit!

p.s. I honestly believe TV only viewers collectively said “Who?” when Barristan said who he was. better hope everyone watched the recap where they at least showed him in S1, maybe they’ll remember. Otherwise could be a swing and a miss.

  • what the hell are you guys talking about? even when sam slayed a white walker he was scared as shit, you can call him slayer and he would still start shaking…the show portrayed him fine..

  • Well, Mance is not Mance, Tormund is NOT funny, the giants should have tiny little heads!!! :) I loved the Davos/Stannis/Mel scene :) Great episode, still better to come. Oh, and for the people crying for Tyrion…. everything his father said about him is true. D&D are whitewashing him, but he is his father’s son. In the books he rapes and kills without realy blinking.

  • West coast done watching here. Seeing Ser Barristan got me all riled up. No north scenes (below the wall) =(

  • Episode 1 was really cool!
Loved Dany’s scenes, how she’s getting her army. Loved the dragons, and the final scene with Barristan.
I was mad at Robb for doing that to her Cate. Mad at freaking Melissandre.
Glad that Mance accepted Jon in his valley. Oh and poor Tyrion, what his dad told him really hurt.
Looking forward for episode 2! Can’t wait to see Arya, Bran and Jaime.

  • coronaking,

you can download it illegally or buy it off itunes for a few dollars per episode. last year it took a week for itunes to have it for sale

  • Dracarys:
what the hell are you guys talking about? even when sam slayed a white walker he was scared as shit, you can call him slayer and he would still start shaking…the show portrayed him fine..

true. Not sure how about the comprehension of those saying sam is courageous etc. sam is a coward in the books. yes he kills a whitewalker but it was not brave, just survival. show is portraying him well.

  • Well that was a set things up episode. I enjoyed the scene with the cold hearted Tywin Lannister putting Tyrion in his place. Tough love eh?

  • I have to Say that the epsidoe was FREAKING AMAZING…. I actually REALLY like what they did with GHOST at the start as I have to say on the skirling pass in the last season when Jon was on the range and Ghost disapeared I was thinking…. when is he going to come back into it? would it be on the way back to the wall but I thought the whole concept with Samwell Tarly being saved by Ghost played a lot better…. Now the only CRIT I have about the start is that the battle of the fist was one of my favourite moments in the books…. and although CGI can be dodgey at times GAME OF THRONES is probably the best at doing CGI! … I kind of wish I saw more deaths happening as at the moment from th sound of it…. Mormont stated that the walkers walked past them and are on their way to the wall? does this mean we are going to see another battle? …

Seeing Davos seaworth was amazing ! stayed very true to the books which I loved very much… Jon snow meeting Mance was fantastic and the bit with unsullied and barristen selmy! … The only thing I can say now Is that I am looking forward to next week!!!!

BUT… I kind of wished it was a double bill on episode 1…. as their was no arya or Bran or theon? I wish they were included in episode 1 to make it more of a final episode by ramming in all the main essential characters INCLUDING Jamie… But time to wait until next week :D! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME
