By now, it is a foregone conclusion that Game of Thrones will get a fourth season. Most of the actors and even executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have intimated as much in various interviews. So learning that Charles Dance said the following is not too surprising.
“We’re about to start season four aren’t we? This year. We get scripts pretty early on, much earlier on than in similar series, usually you get perhaps one episode and you just have to trust that what’s going to come in subsequent episodes is going to be as good as the one you’ve got, but in this I think there are six scripts already written, and we will probably be able to see them with more than adequate time to prepare before we start shooting.”
Of course, having the scripts written prior to the season greelight is nothing new. They’ve been doing that since the beginning, before the series was even officially picked up by HBO. But season four is coming, folks. You can be assured of that.
Meanwhile, the London food truck seemed to be a smashing success. Isaac Hempstead-Wright hopped aboard for part of the journey, mingling with the fans and also managing to give a couple of interviews. Here he talks with Red Carpet TV and Flicks and the City.
More interviews after the break…
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Rose Leslie and John Bradley talk to the BBC about Thrones being the most pirated show in the world.
A raven-haired Sophie Turner chats with Canal+ about S3, teasing that Sansa will actually have a moment of happiness this season.
MuggleNet has an interview with always-entertaining Natalia Tena where she talks about Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.
Sibel Kekilli talks Thrones in an interview with The Daily Quirk and reveals that it took some convincing by the executive producers to get her to take the part of Shae.
Female First has Q&As with Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Some Thrones fan reportedly tried to put a curse on Aidan Gillen. Maybe he was hired by Varys?
This Is Fake DIY chats with most of the Stark clan (Richard Madden, Michelle Fairley, Sophie Turner and Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in one of the more entertaining and illuminating interviews I’ve read.

He didn’t say Tywin’s death scene was fabulous like they’d filmed it. He and Charles were discussing how their characters do (or in Pycelle’s case, how he wants him to die) die and Charles knew how Tywin dies and told Julian about it.

Well, it may or not be his wedding but that is a whole lot of extras behind him. What else could it be aside from the other wedding which won’t be appearing this season? And new set too, looks like. I don’t think that’s the Throne Room. Have they built the Sept of Baelor?

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned this, so: unsurprisingly, the GoT DVD/Blu Ray sets continue to sell quite well.
Last year IIRC the first set sold a little bit worse than the Clash of the Titans ripoff Immortals; this year they’re neck and neck with the reigning Best Picture winner and the latest James Bond megahit. I’d call that progress.

As someone who enjoyed the potter films think about Matt Lewis (neville) in Sorcerer’s stone and then Deathly Hallows pt. 2. Those films were 10 yrs apart, so it’s like bloody night and day. If the seasons get along in the time frame it’s going to be hard for Bran not to look more like Lord Brandon than a little boy.

Q&A with Emilia was old, but really interesting.
So have you ever been tempted to ask, ‘who wins the throne?’
Oh completely! I’ve said to George ‘come on; tell me who wins, please!’ And he thinks I’m joking and I say, ‘no, no, I’m deadly serious!’ (laughs). But his lips are sealed. I’m sure that David (Benioff) and Dan (Weiss) know but they don’t tell anyone – and I’ve got them drunk and they still wouldn’t tell me. I’ve been pleading with them, ‘tell me who wins!’ And they won’t say a word. They’re under lock and key.
I know I would’ve done the same.

If they were lesser actors, or lesser roles, you could re-cast them. Conceivably you could re-cast Rickon given his minor role thus far.
Or, you ignore it entirely – the way Seinfeld ignored Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s pregnancy. They get big, and they never make it an issue, regardless of what happens.

KGQuote Reply
Just ignore the aging. Who cares, really? There will be a few jokes, and you’ll need to alter a few character reactions, but no one will care in the end.
AlanQuote Reply
What KG said, and also I’m sure no one watching is going to be complaining too much. This is an adult show and we have no illusions that the kids must stay tiny and cute forever — or even can. It’s not like a program for children where all growth has to be concealed for as long as possible until the actor in question can be replaced or the show ends.
And I don’t see why eliminating 13-year-old-saves-the-world syndrome is so terrible.

A thought occurs, re: S3…
In the RW chapter in the book, Catelyn notes there is no mistaking the song the musicians are playing, despite the lack of singing. But in the television show adaptation so far, all viewers have to go on to place the song is the singing. There are no instruments and it is rather tuneless the way The National sing it in fact. I am wondering how they have managed to do it so that casual viewers will get it

Love Charles Dance, he gives away so much in interviews the producers must be a bit worried about letting him loose in front of an interviewer!
The aging Stark kids is an irrelevance to me. They’re all playing their roles brilliantly and for many people watching, the fact that they look a bit older will help make their storylines much more believeable. I mean, no one at all who hasn’t read the books really thinks that Robb and Jon are 17/18 or Dany is 14. Even so, Sophie Turner’s growth spurt between S1 and S2 was a bit startling – she was just a kid in season one and by the end of season two I think she’s the second tallest person in the show after The Hound!

There is no chance of that happening. We already know Tyrion/Sansa wedding is episode 8 and RW is episode 9.
Sansa’s brief happiness probably stems from the brief possibility that she will marry Loras, before the Lannisters reveal their plans.

If Mr. Dance has seen 6 scripts, it could mean
#6 Tywin dies
#5 Tyrion’s trial
#4 The PW and Sansa’s and LF’s escape (This would give time for some scenes in the Eyrie and Lysa’s death in #8 or #9)
#3 or even #2 The introduction of the RV (Yea, finally!)
Currer BellQuote Reply

Currer Bell,
That sounds about rigt to me and exactly how I imagined Season 4 going down with Tywin’s death being in the finale leading to Tyrion boarding a ship for Essos. It will play nicely along with Arya boarding a ship for Braavos. Both scenes seem like perfect Episode 10 material to me…
DarquemodeQuote Reply
Darquemode,
If I recall correctly, Charles Dance mentioned in an interview last year that he had heard about it from someone who had read the book. So I don’t believe any conclusions can be drawn from his comments about when it might occur in the series.

One thought on a Season 4 KL plotline:
I’d be sorely tempted to have the first episode be the PW. How great of an opening would that be — Joffrey dead, Tyrion in chains, etc. So I’m going to see if that can work.
Ep 1 – Introduction of RV/Dorne. End with PW.
Ep 2 – Tyrion in jail w Varys/Tywin. RV asks for Justice from Tywin.
Ep 3/4 – Tyrion tries to gather evidence, fails. Tyrion talks to Varys, Family.
Ep 5 – RV and Tyrion talk.
Ep 6 – Trail scene 1.
Ep 7 – Shae’s betrayal at the trial. RV takes up where Bronn won’t.
Ep 8 – RV v the Mountain
Ep 9 – Death of tywin and Shae
Ep 10 – On a boat/Landing in Essos.
It might be a bit thin, but not as bad as I thought.
AlanQuote Reply
Darquemode,
Yes, it should be fun. I’m assuming that one doesn’t have to be an Emmy “member” to log onto the live webcast. Hope that’s not an incorrect assumption.
As you said, its another opportunity to see Richard Madden before…well, you know.
mariamb18Quote Reply
Alan,
I’d probably condense those a bit and just leave Tyrion out of an episode or two. It’s probably best to have fewer episodes with more scenes than 10 with just a 2-3 minute scene in some.
ZackQuote Reply
Zack,
They can also have Tyrion discussed but not appear in some scenes like Cersei plotting his demise and collecting witness or discussing things with Jaime etc… Maybe a scene of Sansa realizing what Tyrion’s trial and verdict mean for her etc…
Those scenes can play against Tyrion scenes or work as well without Tyrion in the episode IMO. Toss in a few newly created scenes and I think there is enough for him to appear in 8 or so episodes without it feeling too thin…
DarquemodeQuote Reply
I know its pretty random, but i was thinking about something earlier when i watched Isaac’s interview. How much do you think the younger actors (Maisie, Isaac, Sophie) are paid? I know its weird but they must be pretty rich and i wouldnt know what to do with money at that age :)

I can see most of the story arcs from ASOS being dragged out to the ends of S4…
- Tywin’s death and Tyrion’s escape should definitely be in the S4 finale
- The Battle for the Wall E9, maybe, then Jon becoming LC in the finale
- Sansa’s story must just end with Little Finger dropping Lysa out the window
- Arya’s departure. Which might be hard though, as she’d have to wander around for the entire season. Although, I’d use that time for some warging. I’d also end with her just entering Braavos… Sailing underneath that huge statue…
- I really really hope they save the reveal of UnCat for the S4 ending. I want viewers to feel the same despair in that field as readers before her reveal. Also, letting everyone just get over the RW and then only reveal–> way bigger impact!

But it was your layout that helped me understand why PW ending this season or S4E01 would be feasible. Just because Tyrion’s suspected of murder, he still has to be allowed to help corral supporters and gather evidence for the trial. It’s not going to be him just sitting and waiting, nothing to do. I now think they could pull the trigger fairly early on and it would work pretty damn well.

I was just watching “Kingdom Of Heaven” the other night, and now in hindsight I can see how he was cast to play Jamie, and that he makes total sense in the role. While his part was small in “Kingdom Of Heaven” (larger if you watch the Director’s Cut), he can effortlessly bring forth that smug, self-satisfied, arrogant, demeanour that Jamie has, at least in the beginning (or it might just be all an act on Jamie’s part to hide his own insecurities)…Of course in “Kingdom Of Heaven” his character gets his head split open by Liam Neeson…LOL!
