The second critics spot airs
By Hear Me Roar on in Media.

Our loyal reader Darq(emode) has caught the second critcs spot for the season on his DVR. Thanks! Enjoy it here:

Hear Me Roar: Again some new shots, and again they are epic. I cannot wait to see them embedded snuggly in their respective episodes! No need for any more previews as far as I am concerned.

I bet the shot of Jon at Queenscrowd, from above, falling down on him is when Orell’s eagle will attack him. We have seen him with face-scars in some interviews, I’m sure it the eagle attack !

    Major question:

What is Catelyn doing right before the end of the trailer?

I can’t tell if she’s slapping someone, or slicing someone’s throat. Because if she was trying to slice someone’s throat, that isn’t really a reliable position to do it in. Can the Tumblr page have a gif of that so we can analyze it better?

I have to admit I was worried they would give some of Cat’s moments in the RW to Tulisa which would have annoyed me since I’m a big Cat fan. I’m glad it seems the RW will go as planned and I can’t wait for 8 more weeks to watch it.

Oh and Cat looks fierce as she is slapping whoever (hopefully Roose)

It’s a safe bet. One of the earlier trailers appeared to have the scene where Bran, Jojen, and Meera are hiding at the Night Fort when Sam suddenly appears.

He’s been growing discontent with Robb ever since his son Tohren was killed last season during Jaime’s escape attempt, and moreso after Cat set Jaime free. He was even in the first episode this season acting belligerent to Roose.

    Michel,

The Karstark betrayal in ASOS is nothing to do with Alton Lannister. Robb captures 2 young Lannisters (technically one is a Frey) Willem Lannister and Tion Frey. Rickard Karstark and some of his men murder the boys in their sleep. To show that he did not order the deaths Robb decides he must execute Rickard.

Thank you thank you thank you! I looked for this last night, but couldn’t find it, so was hoping it would be here this morning. (My search ended up fruitful in its own way–one of the places I looked was HBO Go, and I caught the first episode of Vice, which was brilliant. Watch it if possible.)

Catelyn…like D’Arcy, that shot gave me chills. Same with Tyrion’s line. Am anticipating and dreading everything about the RW in equal measure, and the miniscule glimpses or nods they’ve given us have only added fuel to the fire.

Question, though–I don’t know if this has been discussed, so my apologies if the subject has been beaten to death already, but is there a reason why the episode guide lists episode 29 as airing on June 2nd, not May 26th?

“Tower of the Hand and Television without Pity”

Thanks, but Tower of the Hand doesn’t have a forum, only a blog with entries that people can respond to (like WiC). That’s not what I’m looking for: I’m looking for a traditional forum with threads, like Westeros.org. I’m quite surprised to see that Westeros is the only fansite with discussion forums.

Television without Pity: This site has a conventional forum, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of activity there, and it’s not a dedicated fansite. It reminds me a bit too much of GoT’s IMDB forum.

If a site like Tower of the Hand had a discussion forum, it would be perfect. The problem with the Westeros.org forum is that it can take days or even weeks before new threads are greenlit (if the thread is greenlit at all), and there’s too much censorship and lots of unwritten ‘rules’.

Personally I think the SADDEST music to play wouldbe Winterfell from S2, considering it is basically the King in the North music but way sadder. Imagine the RW episode ending with the music starting at 1:00 and going into the credits..

I picture drums, like absolutely thundering drums, and just chaos. Northmen dying, Grey Wind whimpering, Robb getting hit with quarrels, then Grey Wind freaking out. Catelyn’s devastated face, so by now viewers are like ‘NO!!!’. Then… Catelyn gets knocked to the floor by people fighting and Walder stands up and… Silence… We see Catelyn making her way to that dagger, hear Robb grunting and writhing in pain and in the background Grey Wind howling. When Arya hears Grey Wind, she starts to cry and run for the gates…

    Damn, I’m getting chills already.

Personally I think the SADDEST music to play wouldbe Winterfell from S2, considering it is basically the King in the North music but way sadder. Imagine the RW episode ending with the music starting at 1:00 and going into the credits..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U0X_wP0vMc

I think King in the North is the perfect track for Robb’s death: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oth_nFcbK-Y
0:42-0:44 Jaime Lannister sends his regards
    0:45 stab to the heart
    0:47 sword twist
    0:50 Cat screams in despair
0:51-0:52 Roose pulls his sword off Robb’s chest
0:53 Robb falls on his knees in slow motion and dies

    Epically sad :’(

Hey everyone, can anyone think of a time in the show when they have mentioned the unwritten rule of guests’ rights (i.e. eating the food of the host as a way of keeping peace)? I think that is a pretty important part of the RW – giving Cat false sense of security.

What’s going on at 0.11?? Is that a Stark banner just before the horse jumps the fire? Could this be the Hound outside the RW? If so then it’s another major set piece moved to night time!

HBO actually has a Talk Forum for all of it’s programming, but it leaves ALOT to be desired. So much so, that they gathered a focus group of existing users to assist in putting together a new Talk Forum. Easiest $250.00 I ever made; hopefully they actually use our suggestions when the new site rolls out.

There’s one small detail that’s bothering me. The shot with Daenerys holding drogo by a chain leash, to me was done wrong. She goes from city to city freeing slaves but puts her dragon in a chain leash? It seems out of character for her. In the books she let’s tem be free and it eventually leads to…other thing happening. I’m curious to see how it plays out…

I see. Well, I’ve heard similar concerns but haven’t encountered anything unpleasant there yet. I tend to visit the the two sites for different needs. I do enjoy the comment section on WiC, but sometimes the critics get criticized before they’ve even criticized. I’ve seen threads littered with posts that anticipate all the criticism soon to come. That can get tiresome as well. And, of course, it’s very easy to go off topic (like we just did), unless you want to dig up dead threads.

I was rewatching the first episode and realized something- I think the Shae/Sansa scene was sort of a subtle shot at the hardcore fans. Watch the scene again only pretend Sansa is D&D and Shae is book purists. The scene kind of has a totally new meaning when viewed that way.

Sansa (D&D) is saying if you don’t change things (in the book) a la that ship is from Dorne the truth (the show) will be either terrible or boring. But Shae (Book purists) doesn’t care and won’t play along and thinks if a ship(way it is in the book) is from volantis then one should just say the ship is from volantis. Even Ros’ line watch sansa with Littlefinger (D&D with littlefinger) followed by shae (book purists) saying I always do, has a totally different meaning. Its a very clever scene. viewed that way

I am imagining it being set to Rains of Castamere:

    1. Everyone goes quiet, Bedding is announced. People start filing off, notably certain Freys and Robb stay. Things start to go quicker and quicker, Catelyn notices the bride crying, suspicious activity.

    2. General music starts going faster and faster, Robb is talking away, not noticing what is going on.

    3. Cat grabs whatever Frey, slaps him, Music keeps going. Louder than the dialogue.

    4. Just as it seems to reach it’s climax. the gate to where they took the Bride and Groom for the bedding slams shut. For a split second everything seems to freeze and go quiet.

“And who are you, the proud lord said”

    5. Robb turns around. In that instant Catelyn realizes whats happening. Slow shot of musicians drawing crossbows.

“That I must bow so low”

    6. First crossbow bolt hits Robb with a dramatic thud (corresponding with the word must), he drops to his knees(with another thud as he hits the ground, corresponding with low).

“Only a cat of a different cloak, that’s all the truth I know”

    7. Fighting is breaking out, another bolt hits Robb. Catelyn is in shock.

“in a coat of gold, or a coat of red”

    8. Slow motion now, corresponding with gold it shows Walder. Corresponding with Red it shows Robb, blood steaming down his chest, bolts stuck out of him.

    “A lion still has claws”

    9. Timed to claws, another dramatic thud, third bolt hits Robb.

    “And mine”

    10. Shows Walder

“Are long, and sharp my lord. As long and sharp as yours.”

    11. Shows Robb dying, bloody. More fighting, bannermen dying, cat screaming, ect.

    12. More fighting throughout the chorus, shots of the outside, Catelyn making her way towards Walder.

    13. Northmen burst in, wearing Bolton armor. Cat thinks they are here to protect them. They position themselves around Robb as if to protect him, but notably keep their distance and don’t help him. They still seem to be protecting him though until one of them kills Smalljon (or whoever) as he attempts to get close to Robb.

    14. Walder rises, music stops, dialogue between Him and cat.

    15. Music resumes, Catelyn screams, back into slow motion as Roose emerges, full armor and cape.

    16. Emphasizes Roose’ approaching robb. Drums and music going full swing. With “And now the rains weep ore his halls, with no one there to hear” it shows burn’t out ruins of Winterfell at night, in the pouring rain.

    17. as it comes to the last lines:

“Yes now the rains weep ore his hall”

More abandoned Winterfell, Roose approaching. Stops a step away from Robb.

“With not a soul to hear”

music stops, everything is silent for a second, then:

    “Jaime Lannister sends his regards”

Roose stabs him in the back, and twists the sword.

    18. Leaves slow motion, cuts to Catelyn shrieking. The rest of the scene ends with her killing Jinglebell and such.

    TheDashingDuckling,

I really like your ideas (well, as much as one can “like” ideas about the impending deaths of beloved characters). They will have to incorporate the Rains of Castamere somehow, if for no other purpose than to make it plain that the Lannisters were involved. One of the most galling things about the RW for me in the book was that it was the Lannisters one-upping the Starks, as opposed to say the Tyrells or Greyjoys, and in such a duplicitous way, too–it went against the “natural order of things” somehow, even though, yes, it would be simplistic and wrong to write off one House as the “good guys” and the other as “bad.” The song will run salt in the wounds caused by all of the other awful parts of the RW.

I just hope that they don’t end the episode with a shot of Tywin Lannister looking pleased with himself. I think I’d smash something. They can save that for the final episode.

    Hi everyone.

I for one am gleefully thrilled that D&D have opted to skip the Memorial Day airing of the RW episode. I bet they were as gobsmacked as we were when the ratings for “Blackwater” came back last year and they were the lowest damn ratings of any episode of the season! So yes, they learned their lesson. Besides, they’ve been dreaming of putting this scene on screens since the day they read the books. They’ll want to maximize the viewership tuning in. It’s a brilliant coup. The absence of GoT the week before will draw in more viewers due to high anticipation and viewer withdrawal (heh).

I echo the sentiments regarding the Unsullied viewers. Can’t wait to visit the Spitball Wall the day after that episode airs. Heehee!

    Sorry, that’s not quite correct.
Blacker is confirmed to be playing a character called Violet. Hope is playing a character called Myranda, who is unlikely to be Myranda Royce. Hope appeared in a trailer disrobing with another woman, and given the timing of her appearance, she probably is just a small character who they borrowed the name Myranda for. The Allen interview probably based their post on speculation from sites like WiC.

I think people make too much of “long ago” and that it isn’t meant to be particularly important or analysed so much. The key thing is that the character is technically dead.

CH is going to be tricky. The whole person-hiding-their-identity thing is so much easier to pull off on the page. You can get Barristan Selmy out in the open quickly and it doesn’t matter a great deal but CH’s identity needs to be kept under wraps. If he is who most people think he is then they will probably have to hold off using the same actor in case people pick it. It’s not like they can be credited anyway without giving the game away. Just get an extra who is a similar size, show a shadowy silhouette of a man on an elk with perhaps a close up of his black hands and leave it at that, for now.

msd: that it isn’t meant to be particularly important or analysed so much.

I’m not analyzing it at all… I’m just reading what is written.

Several months isn’t “long ago” (especially in the mouth of a Child of the Forest), hence why I don’t see how Coldhands could be Benjen.

    Summer Is Coming,

Not only did Hope confirm it but if you look at photos of the woman in the trailer and Hope’s headshot- they look exactly the same. I did a photo comparison when the trailer came out because some mistakely believed it to be Roslin Frey.

    msd,

If I remember correctly he wore a scarf around his nose and mouth and a cape over his head partially covering his eyes. It may work if they do it that way I think

    zod,

That wasn’t especially aimed at you, just a general comment about the fact that a lot of people focus on those two words and invest them with a lot of significance.

    msd,

I don’t think it’s insignificant when a Child of the Forest uses the phrase “long ago.” They live hundreds of years. A couple years is not long ago. It’s reading the text, not overanalyzing. Also, I don’t know anyone even in our world who would refer to two years ago as “Long ago” in anything but a joking/ironic way.

That’s assuming the children of the forest are not full of it. Which in this series would not surprise me

    Tyrion Pimpslap,

I thought it would be dramatic, and symbolic of the overall defeat of the starks.
