I am the second owner of George RR Martin’s Mazda RX7 which he named “Grey Alice”
it is now for sale on EBay- check it out- it comes with a photocopy of George’s original title with his name and signature- this car IS magic- it is like mounting a chariot pulled by six dragons and taking to the sky- (the 2 rotors and 6 apex seals) I have painted it candy blue and call it “Blue Barbarella” don’t believe me? Just look at the photos posted with the ad on EBay- this car is mystical- this is the real part, no fantasy- life is magic-

Was disappointed that there were no “Daily Raven” recaps over the past 3 weeks. Would have been nice if WiC had let us know that you were busy elsewhere. Very glad to have you back now. Love your recaps!

Great to see Simone and the The Daily Raven back. I thought it was well known that Simone was off to London for the Star Trek premier. Any how the next episode, if pulled off right, may be one of the best episodes of TV ever.

Remember GoT is not playing over Memorial day.

This chica drives me bonkers with mispronunciations.

Welcome back. I wonder if she’ll ever do a Game of Owns Podcast. Or has she already?

Thanks for contributing. It was really helpful for all of us

    Hollyoak,

Well really, she is supposed to be the Geekqueen, and I would assume she is at least watching the show, but she CONSTANTLY mispronounces the names.

I find it hard to take her seriously because of that. Just my opinion , which I am allowed to share, BTW.

Calling a woman “chica” is not very respectful.

    Dark Star,

She’s probably just used to the pronunciations she first used from reading the books. George RR Martin doesn’t even use the show-canon pronunciations (ie he says Dothrak-EYE instead of Dothra-KEY). I also still use some of my initial pronunciations despite the show (B-ah-lon Gregjoy as oppose to the show’s B-ay-lon, for example). People just used to what they’re familiar with. David and Dan have been on record saying they made no great book of pronunciations for the show and left it up to the actors instead. With that, I wouldn’t take the show’s versions as canon, so it really doesn’t bother me when someone says it differently.

Well, that did not really explain why she would not like Sansa if someone else than Sophie played her. She only explained that se liked the portrayal of Sansa.

Yay! The DR’s back! I love these.

To answer your question, I don’t think Davos would ever convert and become a follower of the Red God. He’s intrigued, yes, especially after witnessing that “miraculous birth,” but he’s far too suspicious of Melisandre and wary of how she may affect Stannis’ reception as king to take it to heart. He’ll always keep one eye open when it comes to R’hllor.

As a “chica” myself, there is absolutely nothing disrespectful about using the term.

The definition of chica is a Spanish word that means a female friend or girl, often used affectionately between two women.

    You have been schooled.

    Dark Star,

It really is a weird pronunciation. I understand not everyone’s exposed to this particular use of “y” but that’s a surprising oversight considering we’re this far into the show. We may have had our own pronunciations as we read the books, but you’d think hearing the “official” pronunciations in the show would have been enough of a hint for such an active fan.

These videos aren’t my speed anyway, but the little things do count for or against you when you’re acting as a guide for part of the fandom.

She probably read the books pronouncing names the way she does and stuck with it even after the show came out (proving her pronounciations wrong).

Eh, Eye-Gritte, Eee-Gritte, pronunciation is not a deal breaker for me in a review, it’s just the way she hears it in her head and says it. It would be different if she was calling the character the wrong name, versus using her own personal pronunciation.

I think Simone’s come a long way from the start of the Daily Ravens – I think her speaking is more fluid and natural, and her recaps are just that, a video recap of her thoughts about the episode (Or what FaB thinks she should think – maybe a combo?). I think they’ve grown into a nice addition. It’s maybe not earth-shattering interpretations of themes and PhD level dissertations, but who wants that much crap thrown at you in a video? It’s the YouTube age, have fun! The only thing missing is a cat in the background to do a few tricks :)

    purplejilly,

Mispronunciations don’t really bother me. One of my favourites is a fan commenting the other night on one of the live chats that her mom watches the show with her and calls Ygritte ‘Ingrid’. I loved that and have been calling her ‘Ingrid’ ever since.

Welcome Back Simone, and best of luck with the career assignments.

I’m afraid someone passed the poisoned Koolaide to Simone with respect
to Jaime Lannister’s honour bound slaying of king Aerys Targaryeon.
Vengeance is often accompanied by honour, but not always. More likely,
“a Lannister always pays his debts” is the incentive. Ask the Reynes of
Castemere about the honour bound Lannisters. Actor Costa-Waldau does
make the role palatable to watch. Jaime’s redemption in upcoming
episodes, is what I’m looking forward to.

The top 5 moments ( and definitely not pivotal scenes ) were romance and a
Bart the Bear ? After 3 episodes ? No Krasnys or lady Olenna ? At least the
    Dragon Glass got a mention.

Once TDR is back to basics with GoT, the reviews should be worth a read again.
Ms Boyce is still experiencing ill effects from the warp speed on the Enterprise.
Maybe Spock gave her a kiss on the cheek, and Kirk……. well, you know how
James T Kirk shows off *>*

    Dark Star,

I have to say I agree with you. I really like Simone, and the Daily Raven is a nice bit of fun between episodes with someone who is obviously a fan. But really, she is recapping the show, and for someone pursuing a career like hers, she should sound like she actually watches the show. If she wants to be seen as a professional, she needs to step it up just a tad more. Imagine if she did the Star Trek press coverage and called Spock, Spoke.

HEY EVERYONE! Im Simone Boyce, I know the next episode is called ‘The Rains of Castamere’ and I know in last weeks episode the conversation between Cersei and Marg made it seem like it was foreshadowing the Lannisters doing something bad to the Tyrells…. but IGNORE THAT! It’s total misdirection GUYS! Coz it’s Edmure’s wedding you should be focussed on GUYS! You listening?? It’s that wedding!
It’s episode 9, and we all know stuff is gonna go down! So I’ll mention that (seemingly minor) wedding and NOTHING else so you all 100% know that THAT is where stuff will go down! Not Dany, Not Tyrion & not any of the other potential plots in the episode! What’s that? That wedding wasn’t even on your radar?? and you would have been really shocked to see it be the centrepiece of the episode?? Well don’t worry coz now I’ve made that obvious! :) Yaaay!

    Chris Umber,
I think you’re being excessively harsh. Edmure’s wedding is in the preview for next week’s episode. It’s not weird to point it out because it will clearly be a major part of episode nine, being in the previews and the culmination of several episodes’ worth of Robb-Cat scenes. The Frey alliance may save Robb’s war cause as far as new viewers are concerned. Edmure’s wedding was not a minor plot point even without knowing about the RW.

The Daily Raven vids appear to me as a bit shallow in terms of content. From the final invitation to comments sent to the audience, I understand that they are targeting viewers of each episode. If so, why would I want Simone to simply retell me quite verbatim what I’ve already watched?
I listen to a bunch of podcasts, read WiC, follow the episode recaps in the press, because there are always meaty analyses, articulated reactions, lively discussions and so forth.
I struggle to find comparable quality of content in the DR.
So sorry Simone; you do look like a nice person and your effort cannot be ignored, but if you reach for professional standard, I don’t see you quite there yet.
And glad that you’ve got a bed and a Mac, but that just brings a layer of distraction, IMO.

WTF SIMONE? Melisandre burned the leeches to have visions? C´mon!! I mean you are a book reader right? And just like Chris said Thanks for pointing out the wedding was THE climax of episode 9 and mentioning Coldhands. We don’t even know if he will appear next episode. By the way, you did this before in the recap of episode 3 when you said: “The rest of the Night´s Watch are back at Craster´s Keep. And i love the camera work in this scene because it was really unsettling, really sneaky and makes us think something is gonna go down there”. You are spoiling although you think you are not. One of my Unsullied friends was waiting for something to happen in episode 4 because you hinted it. If you are going to recap an episode, do it properly.
PD: I don’t really care how you pronounce names. I’m fine with that.
