Huge dragon skull “discovered” on English beach
By Winter Is Coming on in Marketing.

As part of a promotion by blinkbox to celebrate the arrival of Game of Thrones season 3 to their streaming video service, they have placed a huge dragon skull on a popular beach in Dorset, England. Something that will certainly get your attention when going for a leisurely stroll along the shore.

Dragon skull

“Game of Thrones is easily the most talked about TV show of the moment. We wanted to mark its arrival on blinkbox with a spectacle every bit as dramatic as this amazing series,” says Ben Ayers of blinkbox.

The skull is 40 feet long and took a team of sculptors over two months to design and build. You can watch a video of the making of the skull right here:

Full press release about the dragon skull, plus more info about Game of Thrones on blinkbox, are after the break.

GIANT DRAGON SKULL DISCOVERED ON DORSET’S JURASSIC COAST

Spectacular 40ft ‘dragon skull’ stuns fossil hunters and dog walkers
Skull created to celebrate Game of Thrones season 3 coming to blinkbox today

LONDON, 15 July 2013: Fossil hunters on a Dorset beach were stunned this morning as they stumbled across what appeared to be the remains of a giant dragon.

The spectacular skull the size of a London bus appeared to have been washed up on Charmouth beach on Dorset’s Jurassic coast, famous for its treasure trove of dinosaur fossils.

With a vast spine disappearing into the sand, fossil hunters, holiday makers and local dog walkers were stopped in their tracks on discovering the sensational creation.

But as paleontology enthusiasts held their breath, the skull was revealed to be an impressive sculpture installed overnight by movie and TV streaming service blinkbox to celebrate the arrival today (15 July) of the third installment of HBO’s epic Game of Thrones on the service.

A team of three sculptors took over two months to design, construct and paint the skull, which measures 40ft long by 8ft wide and stands at over 9ft tall.

The dramatic work was inspired by a memorable scene in the series which sees character Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) discover a dragon skull in the dungeons of King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms. At this point in George RR Martin’s fantasy, the dragons are supposedly long dead, but it hints strongly at their return, which is a developing theme in the story.

Ben Ayers from blinkbox says: “Game of Thrones is easily the most talked about TV show of the moment. We wanted to mark its arrival on blinkbox with a spectacle every bit as dramatic as this amazing series.”

“We’re expecting this season to be hugely popular as the previous two series top the TV charts on blinkbox every week and we have season 3 months before it will available on DVD or Blu-ray.”

Game of Thrones season 3 will be available on blinkbox from 9am today (15 July) priced at £17.99 (SD) and £23.99 (HD). It is not available on rival streaming services Lovefilm Instant, Netflix or iTunes.

This is obviously a fake: dragon bones are black, due to their high iron content.

Whoever wasted their time making this so-called dragon skull was not paying attention.

Is the spine really attached to the lower jaw as it seems? Because if yes, they seriously messed this up.

Other than that, a really nice ‘find’.

You guys remember that, I think it was in London, where they used projectors and speakers to make it seem like a dragon was destroying a building?

Anyway, I really hope D&D use that promotional strategy somehow in New York City during their premier or something…

Awesome detail. I wonder if the Dragon descends from Crocodiles, or the
Pterosaur. Either way, it’s a paleontologist’s white whale to pursue.

Just thought of a great casting for Mace Tyrell. Granted he’s not round like The Lord of Highgarden but he is the right age to be Olenna’s son and father of a twentyish Margaery…

Rupert Graves. Best known for his Inspector Lastrade on Sherlock and other character roles. He has a classy aspect to him while being kind of soft at the same time. I could easily see him as the ponderous oaf that Olenna gets on about.

    Also good for Mace’s role:
    Stephen Waddington
    Angus McFadyen
Brendan Gleeson could be a coup as well.
    Stephen Fry
    Toby Jones
    Timothy Spall
    Kenneth Branagh

She notion that he would like the patch (obviously, or one wouldn\’t buy it now would ya?) but when the patch arrived i actually was hempressed by the detail itn the patch. It\’s a little littleer that
we opinion it would be even though we had a ruler and sketched shet out – no mas, he
would suggested this patch to anybody! the shipping and assistance was
good – he wasn\’t going to ups a patch so you gather what you examine for there.
