  • why was Dany’s scene dramatic? i think it was epic and very cool, would fit better to the most outstanding scenes if this is a category.

  • Jaime wins hands-down… but for the Red Wedding… Wonder if there’s ever going to be a more dramatic scene on TV.. still cant believe they are all dead!

  • All five were really good scenes. But NCW’s acting was phenomenal and the “by what right does the Wolf judge the Lion” line was so well delivered that I had to go for the bathtub monologue. By rights, it should’ve given him an Emmy.

  • why isn’t theon’s castra~ uhm, i mean, contrition on the list? though obviously nobody would vote for it, still it was a great scene.

  • Karstark gettin the old Ned Stark treatment for me. Considering it led to Robbs downfall and eventually the RW.. They’re all winners in their own right though.

  • Jaime/Briene bath scene. I was torn between that and Bran/Rickon.

RW was REALLY dramatic, but I felt like the full drama of the event built on several scenes, so it’s hard for me to say that one scene in particular was the “most dramatic.”

Bran/Rickon was really dramatic, but I think it felt more so than it actually was just because otherwise Rickon doesn’t really say anything all season so it really popped in contrast.

But Jaime in the bath…Jaime has a lot of awesome scenes all season, I knew exactly what was coming, and I was still super impressed. Go NCW!

  • Dany’s moment was epic but Nikolaj gave an outstanding performance during the bath scene. That scene alone eclipsed every single scene Tyrion had this season, I am still pissed off that Peter was nominated for an Emmy ahead of Nikolaj.

Frankly the RW wasn’t that dramatic, it was more shocking than anything because of what D & D decided to use Talisa for.

  • I voted for Dany’s scene because that was the best for me, but I think we all know the Red Wedding is going to win.

  • …in addition to…
    Shireen/Davos reading
Theon becoming Unsullied (crossing my legs)
    Ygritte shooting Jon
Yunkai rep, Dany & the dragons (I’ll keep your gold, thank you)
    Hodor in a storm

[Please note that I am NOT including that maddening last Dany scene….!]

…so many good scenes in a remarkable season. How does one choose?
From those scenes offered, I chose Jaime/Brienne just because…

  • I went with the bath scene. That was an incredible performance but the end was a little weak.

The Red Wedding will obviously win, can’t deny that will go down as TV history. I would probably guess it came as way more of a shock to show fans, as the TV adaption lacked much in the way of foreshadowing and prophecy. In a way, this was a good move by D&D.

  • 1. It’s Lord Rickard Karstark. Give the man his due respect. Stannis would disapprove ;)
    2. Can’t vote for the Red Wedding. I’m still not over it, the wound’s still too fresh. Don’t wanna think about that scene.
    3. Tough one between Dany, Jaime and Karstark. Dany has been most epic, Jaime most touching and Karstark the hardest and probably most important for the story.
    4. Voted for Jaime.

  • Christopher: same here. i think Dany’s scene should be in the category Best Scene of Season 3 anyway.

There is no one Best Scene of Season 3 category- we have Best Comedic and Best Dramatic, so it’s basically divided into types of Best Scenes. There’s also a Best Action Scene category.

  • RW for me.

I have to hand it to NCW, though, he really has a good grip on Jaime. The bath scene was fantastic (as was Dany at Astapor).

  • Chose the Red wedding. Looks like there’s a good chance it wins both best episode and best dramatic scene

  • I almost feel like this poll should have been “Best Dramatic Scene Other Than The Red Wedding”. All of the other scenes are great, but… not quite that great.

  • Macharius:
All five were really good scenes. But NCW’s acting was phenomenal and the “by what right does the Wolf judge the Lion” line was so well delivered that I had to go for the bathtub monologue. By rights, it should’ve given him an Emmy.

THIS. And not only because your name starts with Macha. ;-)

  • I voted for Bran and Rickon parting scene. Isaac’s really done a great job in that scene and deserves more recognition.

  • I think the Red Wedding will win this one. I voted for the Karstark execution but it was a tough choice because all of those scenes were good ones. No losers in this category, that’s for sure.

  • My vote for second to best continues…..yeah…

Red Wedding is the winner, but I voted for the Karstark execution. Well done.

  • I have a special place in my heart for pretty much all of those scenes.

However, if the Red Wedding doesn’t win, it will be silly. It has become one of the most memorable and defining scenes in the history of television. To not vote for it is to suggest these awards only represent the minority.

  • All fantastic scenes and worthy of votes.
I have to go with Daenerys’ scene though. I was looking forward to that from the beginning of the season more than anything else, including the Red Wedding, and they did such a great job with it. I couldn’t vote on Drogon independently in the scene for best gfx category, but as part of the whole I can.

  • Awww… “Can you bring back a man without his head?” was super good. Maisie’s Arya on that scene was spot on. Too bad it wasnt included

  • I voted for the RW, I would have voted for the bath scene but as much as I liked NCW’s delivery, the RW was more dramatic for me (Sullied).

  • Wow. Where to start?

First, let’s dispense with the weakest of the contenders. The beheading of Rickard Karstark is very effective, and well done, and it’s a difficult moment – it means a lot for Robb’s trajectory. And the best part of it is Robb’s hands shaking after his decision. But it’s fifth best, and I would have excised it in favor of Tywin admonishing his children in the epic scene that ends “Kissed by Fire.”

The scene where Bran says goodbye to Rickon is wrenching. And on this list, it’s fourth best.

That leaves the other 3 – all of which are worthy winners. In some ways, the “Dracarys” scene is the most rousing of the series to date, the true “OK, shit’s getting REAL” scene that would have not been odd to see Omar Little show up and approve of Danys’ actions. It’s awesome stuff, but I don’t think it belongs here, compared to the other two.

Jaime in the tub. Wow. It’s so amazing. It completely turns the character on its head, and changes the audience’s interest in him in an instant. It’s outstanding.

And yet I can’t vote for it. The Red Wedding was too much. Ten minutes of having my hands on each side of my head, even though I knew it was all coming. Cat’s recognition of “The Rains of Castamere,” Black Walder closing the doors, Cat seeing the chain mail under Roose Bolton’s clothing – and a moment I missed the first time around, that Roose Bolton had even motioned for her to look. The “LORD WALDER” scream from Cat, coming deep from her throat. Her anguished look just before her throat is cut. Sandor Clegane realizing what’s up. Grey Wind going down. Good lord. There are plenty of people sort of willing to dismiss this in favor of other moments, and I get that people don’t want to reflexively just say this scene was the best.

But this scene killed me – even one of the best choices of all, having the end credits appear with no music, nothing, just having to sit there in your own silence and anguish while you think, “What in the hell just happened?”

    Red Wedding it is.

  • I wish ALL were a choice, for submission. I’m torn between Danerys’s ” Mrs
    Heisenberg ” moment , carried out with the talented Dan ” Krasnys ” Hildebrand;
and that of the infamous ” Red ” Tully-Frey Wedding. Okay then, I’ve narrowed
    it down to two.

  • Are there any other scene categories? Because if there is like best scene or smth I will vote for dracarys there and if not I will vote here

  • untill the redwedding is one of the choices how can anyone pick any thing els?!!! im a movie addicte and i have cryed alot with different sence… but the redwedding made me cry outloud for the first time!
    MRR,
    i couldnt agree more:)

  • Meanwhile…

I want to throw some props for some other scenes that didn’t make the list, and just qualify as favorite little moments throughout the year.

In The Climb, there’s a moment when Ygritte and Jon are talking about their time in the cave together, and Ygritte accuses Jon of being scared, and Jon says he wasn’t, and Ygritte says “You were shaking like a leaf.” And Jon responds, “Only at the beginning.” Ygritte gives him a sly look and says, “Aye. Only at the beginning.” I love that scene. If only because the look they share is such a knowing one, the kind of look you share with a person who you’ve just recently started having sex with, and you can’t help but want it all the time, and every conversation in that period is infused with that knowledge. It’s a great moment, and underrated.

    Other underrated bits:

–Salladhor Saan. Everything about Lucian Msmati is awesome, and I hope we see more of him.

–Davos and Shireen in “Myhsa.” Their relaxed banter is outstanding, a testament to those actors, and the way they become “hangout buddies” is just great.

–When Jon finally sh0ws some bravado when he steps to Orell and says, “What happens to your eagle when I kill you?”

–Every one of Gendry’s asides. “It wasn’t chicken.”

–The great Thoros/Beric/Arya conversation. Heart-breaking, as was her “You can be my family” line to Gendry.

–Sandor Clegane mocking the Brotherhood, but specifically his line to Anguy: “What about you, archer – you worth anything with a sword in your hand?” Anguy reflexively reaches for his sword, but in a very tentative, halting way – which tells you that, no, he’s not worth anything with the sword in his hand.

  • TheBerylfly: Are there any other scene categories? Because if there is like best scene or smth I will vote for dracarys there and if not I will vote here

    scene categories last year:
    Best CGI Scene
    Best Action Scene
    Best Dramatic Scene
    Best Death Scene
    Best Comedic Scene

I suppose Daenerys’ scene could fit into Action scene if it’s included again, but would they put it in two categories? It is dramatic though, just we view it from the “good guys” side. ;) If your favorite character was Kraznys you would have tears of sadness watching it. :P

  • So many great scenes! But I had to go with the Red Wedding because it was excecuted perfectly. That was the most emotional I’ve ever been watching a scene on a TV series or a movie. My mind was all over the place because I was overcharged with so many feelings.
Looking at the other nominees makes me remeber how awesome this season has really been. Definately the best one yet!

  • Well, it HAS to be the Red Wedding… but all those other scenes were amazing. Just reminds me how much I loved Season 3.

  • the king in the north_north will remember
    Greatjon of Slumber,
goooooood are u a writer or sth?that part u said about RW…it was every thing i couldnt put in WORDS.. just the feels…thank u for leaving that comment

  • I voted for the bath scene. Much as I adore how well they pulled off the RW, nothing beats NCW’s acting in that scene. Incredible!

As others have mentioned, I’m still bitter that Dinklage was nominated over him. Brilliant actor, but I can’t think of a single scene he did this season that even touched what Nikolaj did.

  • You know what’s odd? I don’t believe I teared up very much at all during the RW scene. I balled like a little girl after Ned’s death. I’m not saying that it wasn’t done very well, as it was. I think there are several reasons why it may have hit me different than Ned’s beheading. Maybe not the least of which is that it’s as deep into the series as it is (long time thinking about it coming). I believe I also have a stronger feeling for the scene in book and show than sadness. Pissed off is what comes to mind and that seems to override other emotions in this case.

To add to that, I still get all kinds of tears (of awesome) every time I watch Daenerys take her army. That’s one of the reasons why I HAD to vote for it wherever I could. In other words, my vote is perhaps less about me thinking it’s necessarily a better scene than the RW and more about the manner in which they affected me.

What a sappy post. Maybe I’ll go cry now :P

  • So tired of the jizzfest over rains of castamere…get over the shock element of it and it wasn’t that great of an episode overall, nor did it have that many great individual moments. It’s far from game of thrones best episode. Maybe must culturally significant, but I feel the scenes from that episode don’t hold a candle to the scenes they’ve been competing against. Jaime’s confession ftw.

  • Anything other than the Red Wedding is incorrect.

I guarantee nobody who hasn’t read the books would pick Jaime in the bath over the Red Wedding, because one is the most intense, insane, dramatic moments on all of TV in recent memory…the other is a monologue from a character who “show only” people still cannot appreciate on the level that book readers can. People seem to be voting based on their appreciation of the books, not the visual medium that is the TV show.

  • It genuinely confuses me that some people think anything the red wedding did was amazing. Shocking, perhaps. Culturally significant, maybe. But the show has done several things better than in that episode, in addition to better episodes overall. Get over that they stabbed her in the baby and Michelle’s scream. Then you have a very meh episode, for the most part. But to each their own, I guess

  • Gotta go Red because it mentally scared people for life. Yes, NCW deserved the awards, but this isn’t about that.
    R.I.P. Eddard Stark II

  • The bath scene wins by a hair over RW. In terms of character development it’s a real game changer. It’s the moment I started to care about Jaime in books and the show pulled it off perfectly. NCW and Gwendoline Christie were great.

I do wish Arya’s first rage kill was included as well. It’s such a pivotal moment for her. Maybe there should be a category for best scene with Maisie Williams in it.

  • who even?:

To each their own, but IMO Rains was anything but “meh.” It was a plot driven episode rather than a character development episode. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t emotional and superbly acted.

This….almost! Bran/Rickon – cried! RW – cried louder! Dany’s scene was more “Girl Power” than drama for me. Jamie’s scene was done superbly. Karstark scene was excellent…the turning point for Robb. Gotta give it up for the RW. That scene killed me when I read it and was portrayed amazingly well by everyone involved.

  • who even?:

I agree. The RW wasn’t that great. Jaime’s bath tub scene was superior in every way.

  • Voted for the Red Wedding, but Dany getting her army was a close second.

Couldn’t you make 10 nominees, btw? So many more scenes deserving recognition…one I haven’t seen in the comments yet: the Ygritte-Jon break-up.

  • The Red Wedding shouldn’t even be in the race for best dramatic scene. It should be placed in the category for best horror scene, in the entire history of television (which it would win in a landslide).

  • It’s hard to choose because i love all these scenes..superb acting and greatly written .. but if i had to choose ..I’ll vote for Bran/Rickon goodbye scene.. seeing rickon crying over leaving bran broke my heart to pieces .. and bran is one of my favourite characters..

  • No, Bran and Rickon’s goodbye was not more dramatic than the RW. Unless you’ve seen the RW too many times.

  • I really want to vote for the bath scene because that monologue is pure lannister gold.
But on the other hand the RW was both shocking and dramatic, and it left you with your breath caught looking into the dead empty, eerie silent credits feeling absolutely gutted and forlorn, even having prior knowledge.

Tough decision. I’ll have to mull it over.
The other scenes were great too I may add.

  • Having trouble choosing between Jaime, and the RW… Think I’m gonna go with Jaime as that was far more of a drama scene rather then the Red Wedding, which while brilliant was more of an action/horror scene?

  • who even?:

Not sure why people think shocking is completely different than dramatic, but whatever. I found just about all of the moments dramatic and emotionally wrenching, including the womb stabbing and Catelyn’s scream, which you too easily dismiss (imagine someone saying “Just forget that it’s an emotional confession and the bathtub scene is really just meh”). Robb’s “Mother,” Catelyn’s dread at hearing “Rains of Castamere, Roose’s dickish teasing of what is under his sleeve.

Now, I totally respect if another scene was more dramatic in your eyes. In fact, I would agree with you that the episode on the whole has its flaws. There is plenty of room for subjectivity here. Maybe you think that there are objectively more dramatic scenes, which might be why it confuses you when people get different impressions. Let’s not be dismissive, though, of the experiences of others

  • thisone:
No, Bran and Rickon’s goodbye was not more dramatic than the RW. Unless you’ve seen the RW too many times.

I didn’t say bran and rickon’s scene was more dramatic than the RW .. the RW was shocking and dramatic yes .. but the award is for the best dramatic scene .. and the RW was more than just a scene ..

  • Michelle Fairley did the choice for me. Even though NCW’s performance was incredible, Michelle wail at the end still makes my eye sockets wet. It is complete bulls*** that the two actors did not get a Emmy nomination.

  • So many good options. I had absolutely zero issues with the bath scene. Those actors and the script and everything did the material complete justice. I choose that.

Red Wedding would be my second choice.

  • MRR:
I almost feel like this oll should have been “Best Dramatic Scene Other Than The Red Wedding”. All of the other scenes are great, but… not quite that great.

Agreed…its not really even a fair fight…the RW is one of the most dramatic moments in tv history

  • When I read the category, I immediately thought of the Red Wedding. Then, looked down the list and was “no, no, no…” and then saw Jamie’s bathtub scene an hesitated a bit, because I thought it was fantastically acted, but went with the RW because even knowing what was coming it left me speechless and motionless as the credits rolled silently. No TV scene has ever done that to me, and very few movie scenes compare.

Danny’s scene will definitely win the “Yessss!!! Scene” award.

I agree with many, that looking at the list and those mentioned by some of you that didn’t make it, it was quite a season.

  • Sorry, but it is the Red Wedding hands down. While Jamie’s bathub scene is awesome, the fact that as a book reader I knew what was coming, but they still managed to make it even more awful and savage than in the novels is incredible.

The Red Wedding is something to behold in all its disturbing, bloody, majesty!

  • This was a tough one. I ended up voting for the bath scene, NCW was awesome. The Red Wedding was gruesome and shocking (though oddly enough, the most affecting part was when Grey Wind’s eyes closed under the kennel gate), Bran & Rickon moved me to tears (again!) and Dany’s scene brought the goosebumps (again!). But, I just really loved the moment when Jaime says to call him by his name. So rewarding to break through his armor at last. I guess Dany’s scene would be 2nd place for me.

  • meh, greyrobb parading and arya seeing it was the saddest tbh. gonna vote lord kartstark’s execution, that was pretty intense and RW is gonna win anyway (gonna be funny if it doesn’t tho ;p)

  • Yeah, seriously, I choose all of them. These are literally the 5 BEST Moments of the season. Ultimately, had to go with Jaime, but damn. That was really, really hard.

  • To be very honest the scene that i liked the least was the jaime bathtub scene… I even liked the karstark execution scene more and thought it was more dramatic … Jaimes scene to me was just some pompous dude whose suddenly gone through shit and talks about how he once did something really amazing but was hated and misjudged for it … Yes jaime saved kings landing and he saved many people but thats the only selfless thing hes ever done …jaime isnt a nice person … Ok so george says or what people percieve when they read jaimes chapters is that he saved the city…i honestly think that no matter what jaime thought in his own head about saving the city subconciously he was just trying to save himself…. But i digress…talking about a scene being dramatic …i think it would have been e tremely dramatic if we had seen what he was talking about happening …not watch him talk about it and kinda shiver and kinda groan…thats the difference while reading though cuz even though jaimes in a tub and talking about this stuff while u read in ure head ure visualising all this stuff happening where as when ure watching the show ure watching whats on screen …. I dont know if any1 will agree with me …but thats just my opinion

  • The red wedding was not just a scene, rather an entire episode. For that reason, and because it was one of the best-acted scenes throughout the entire season, my vote went to The Kingslayer.

Also, personally I have no idea why Emilia was included here. She’s improved from season 1, but she still has some way to go to be on par with many of the other actors. Just my opninion of course…

  • I was between Jaime and RW, in the end I chose Jaime, because The Rains Of Castamere will probably win Best Episode.
I am so glad season 3 makes it so hard to choose its best moments, but it’s making me sweat :-p

  • This was sooo hard as I wanted to vote for nearly all of them (apart from the Dany one, it was in another section so automatically discounted) However I have now got it down to Brienne and Jamie or the goodbye scene with Bran and Rickon. Both of these where hard to choose from I may need another day to really think this one through as they were both beautifully done. The lighting, dialogue, THE BLOODY ACTING everything was perfect for both. This is too hard to decide now.

  • Tar Kidho:
The red wedding was not just a scene, rather an entire episode. For that reason, and because it was one of the best-acted scenes throughout the entire season, my vote went to The Kingslayer.

I disagree. When people say “The Red Wedding was so dramatic,” they are not talking about when Jon fought Orell, or when Bran said goodbye to Rickon, or when Jorah and Daario fought the Yunkai soldiers, or even most of the scenes with Robb, Catelyn, Walder etc. They are thinking of the moments at the Twins within the last 15 minutes or so. Probably when the band starts playing “Rains of Castamere” onwards, which I’m pretty sure remains at the Twins with Arya, Robb and Catelyn. I guess you could call it a “sequence” instead, since it bounced from the Feast to what Arya was doing, which could technically count as a new scene. But unless you want to add the category “Best Sequence of Scenes,” this is the best category to vote for the Red Wedding, not best episode. There are plenty, including me, who would consider the Red Wedding the most dramatic scene of the season, but find the episode on the whole lacking compared to others like Episodes 4 & 5 of this season.

  • WildSeed:
I’m torn between Danerys’s ” Mrs Heisenberg ” moment , carried out with the talented Dan ” Krasnys ” Hildebrand ………………….

For me, it’s Jaime’s “Heisenberg moment” as he “Breaks Good” in the bathtub with Brienne –

  • The Red Wedding was The Red Wedding. But Jaime’s confession? That’s true Lannister gold right there.

  • My choice can be only one ,and as many of us obdiously chose RED WEDDING .
It’s the most shocking scene in season 3 , and even that other scenes this category are wonderfull my answer couldn’t be different . Red wedding has no competitors.
    Monza

  • As great as the other scenes were, I don’t know how anyone could choose anything but the Red Wedding. I can’t even recall (maybe Ned’s death scene in s1?) a time when I watched TV where I’d felt so tense and anxious and glued to my screen.

I thought the Red Wedding scene was everything it should’ve been: disturbing, heart-stopping, amazing, shocking, insane.

  • Honestly, I wasn’t all that impressed with the Jaime scene. It felt a little corny and over-the-top to me. I love the actor… but I wouldn’t put that scene anywhere near my “favorite dramatic moments of s3” list. :/

  • I had to choose the RW although all the selected scenes were brilliant. The effect that scene had on the world, that is rare, exquisite drama that Shakespeare would be proud of! <3
