  • because you were talking about mirri maz duur and her definition of whatever she is:

try to spell the last 2 words quicker: maz duur=master=mirri the maester.

    tinfoily greets from germany.
    relachs.

  • To clarify for you guys, Mirri Maz Duur worshipped a deity called ‘The Great Shepherd,’ a religion specific to the people she belonged to, who were peaceful sheepherders. However, IIRC Mirri Maz Duur (am I spelling that right?) mentioned she studied ‘medicine’ in Asshai.

  • Game of Thrones deserved at least one Emmy. Mostly as best Drama Series. That’s it. Ok topic closed. But the North will remember…

  • JAM,

Yes. In fact, it would do humankind much good to never acknowledge award shows ever again.

And yes, Breaking Bad won because it’s what the Hollywood Club does to an outgoing love child.

  • Roekest,

GoT definitely deserved some (televised) awards. I’m afraid that the current season of Breaking Bad might sweep up a lot more awards next year at the television-award-show-that-dare-not-speak-its-name.

On the bright side, the fact that we’re even discussing awards is pretty awesome. We’re lucky to have such talented cast, crew, and production bringing our favorite books to life.

Breaking Bad’s best drama emmy win is well deserved. The only game of thrones snub I see was Diana Rigg as lady Oleanna. I also think Rains of Castamere could have won best episode but other than the red wedding sequence the rest of the episode was just ok. Blackwater was perhaps a better overall episode of game of thrones

  • The lack of any real filming/casting news so far this week has been disappointing. Have there been any leaked reports from the set?

  • Abyss:
    Off-Topic:
@WiC: Because there isn’t much else going on at the moment I thought I ask a question that preys on my mind for quiet a long time now. About a year ago you were planning on a “complete redesign of the site”. Is that still to happen or is the idea dead by now?

    While you’re waiting on Winter’s official response………..

I’ve noticed that the ” About ” and ” Features ” columns have been extended, with
more clarifying information. Also, ” Game of Owns ” podcast was added, for
listening and later comment section. The Edit Comment takes less time to
reload or refresh. There may be more, but that’s what I noticed…….. *>*

  • WildSeed,

Yes, I have noticed some of these things as well. But still, that’s not what I (or you I imagine) would call a complete redesign. – Not that it would be really needed of cause. I just think it would be nice to see a new even better reboot of one of my favorite sites on the internet. ;-)

I agree. I doubt WiC is really listening (they don’t even update the stale Mark Gatiss info on the bottom of this webpage) but there could be content and structural updates for the site.

    1) In S2, some goofball kept track of # of lines spoken by characters but I thought that was sort of oddly fun. There could be a bunch of different goofy and fun metrics kept concerning the chars that could be referenced and tracked here. How much time and scenes are dedicated to areas around Westeros and Essos, character lines spoken, degrees of separation between characters on the show, etc.

    2) Maybe incorporate some stuff from http://www.wherehaveallthewildlingsgone.com? It seems relevant.

    3) Track what posters have posted (indexed) and highlight interesting things stated from the posters over the years. There have been some funny and very relevant threads debated in the past few years.

    4) An idea forum (for the site and for the series)

    5) Maybe some inside production stuff from HBO recordkeeping….before the DvD comes out, episode shoot info….budget breakdowns…some fans would find that interesting.

    6) Integrate pictures and art from the show and some internet sites. Pic of the day, artwork of the day, fan news of the day.

    7) Games and trivia questions for the fanbase…with levels of difficulty.

Just some thoughts…(time and $$$ not withstanding!)

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I forgot to mention the Unsullied subject posts. I don’t visit these, however
observed that this has become pretty popular for those that take part.

My expectations are …… less on that scale. I did make some suggestions for
format, without the inclusion of forum. If a forum idea was entertained in
concept, I would hope it were separate from the Daily Updates and Events.

I’m fairly certain that Winter-Phil doesn’t want a forum site to monitor, and the
Podcast was a compromise. Not sure if it’s an even one though. So far, I’ve not
been amused for them except for when Winter attended the panel, and Cogman
on another. The audience interaction would be better served by a forum of
a myriad of topics often broached here…..history / lit / film or digital media /
controversial subject posts & rants. All would need a solid format and participant
compliance, but it’s not anticipated for now.

I like your ideas. Last year, there were hundreds submitted, pretty good ideas.

Ideas for possible threads are one thing (and WiC keeps a decent 1-5 thread pace per day going), but as Abyss suggested, a redesign would be refreshing (more than simply different types of threads for Sullied/Unsullied), with forums, games, trivia, graphics/pics, metrics, inside-info buzz and more interactvity. But, as with everything fun and interesting, there are probably real $$$ and time limitations the WiC staff are facing.

Did WiC ever prioritze and publish the suggestions from the other year? What’s been incorporated and what’s in queue?

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I did a quick search request using the ” white box” in the upper right corner of the
screen ( next to Contact ). I typed in the word ” suggestions ” and immediately
linked to the 19 October 2012 Suggestion ( subject ) Post. There were hundreds
of thoughtful outlines submitted, both brief and sent directly through Contact.
You may want to peruse through those, really, some of your ideas may have
been considered by another. To my knowledge there were responses by WiC,
during the comment section, and not much in way of an announcement,
afterward ( except to expect some changes, which sort of happened later ). I’m pretty sure that Abyss included his comments. It’s been so long that I’d forgotten.

Perhaps the changes are gradual, and/or an effort of time allotted . I’m not so
sure it’s all $ related, although nothing comes for free…… especially bandwidth
frequencies. And many fans do speak/type in volumes.

As this is the only site I contribute to, and wouldn’t mind additional features,
as long as it doesn’t impact the quality of the site. There are other ASOIAF
related sites, but I prefer returning here.

  • I highly dislike the emmys! I just really hope this season has tywinget shot with a crossbow on the privy.

  • Rygar,

The rat cook eats his young. The gods cannot forgive guest rights, slaying a guest under their protection.. salt and bread my friends. The gods will never forgive please let walder frey die. He was a dick in harry potter, and worse in game of thrones too bad the actors actually a nice guy

A sweep is as lucky as lucky can be. Good luck will rub off when I shakes hands with you. Oh blow me a kiss, and that’s lucky too.

I am really thankful to the holder of this web site who has shared
this great piece of writing at at this time.

    Ha best spam ever.

I guess the MODs are all on vacay? Or having some seminar in Modville?

  • Stormborn Groves,

Hey! Filch wasn’t that bad of a guy. Keep in mind, despite his sour attitude he always loyal to the good guys and, foremost, Hogwarts as an institution. He never blinked once in the last book when McGonagal ordered him around to prepare for the attack.

Now, as for Walder Frey…..I hope a grisly death by direwolf is coming. Isn’t Nymeria still roaming around the Riverlands??? And her pack IS getting larger….

  • H. Stark,
Interesting find. Unfortunately they don’t have a website linked on their twitter account. Maybe OItF or WiC will be able to look into it further?

I, personally, am still hoping to hear some Essos and Iron Island casting announcements, and based on what is filming at the moment I would be surprised to hear some Essos-related casting news to come out later this week or next week.

  • Next chapter is one of my favourites.

“A man should never refuse to taste a peach. He may never get the chance again.”

They are still “distracted” by that huge Aimee Richardson photo…and the obvious Missandei voyeurism… :) It must be hard to research, publish and moderate with only one hand.

….except for Oz. He is…..er…..uhmm…..UnSullied. (*cough*…or so we’re led to believe! *cough*)

    He shouldn’t have any excuses!

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Guilty of being unnoticeably absent the past couple of weeks.

Not Guilty of being a secret Sullied, although I think you wrote that just to garner a response. It succeeded.

If the posting schedule allows, I shall return serve and offer up a post tomorrow my good Bastard.

While I rarely comment on your threads because I respect the Unsullied, I do read and treasure your verisimilitudes.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

The respect is reciprocated, especially to you and others who share the site with the nons and allow us to discuss and speculate without ruining us with spoilery.

And I am certainly glad you enjoy the posts. Please comment next time.

But my very name is a spoiler! You do realize that Jon is Hodor’s bastard, right? …and Hodor himself is a Targaryen! Aemon’s little brother! Hah!
    ;-)

  • Jaqen doesn’t worship the Red God. He worships the Many-Faced God, Death, which (according to his philosphy) appears in all the religions in different forms (the red god, the Stranger, the drowned god, the black goat, etc.)
