    After season 1 I became unsullied as I could not wait an entire year for season 2. I finished reading the first 4 books during that summer. And book 5 became available almost directly after I had already finished reading book 4. I have not experienced the long wait times for a ASOIAF book :-)

    Turncloak,

    Same here, I breezed through the first book in 4 days this summer and spent 24 more finishing the rest, I’m now on ASOS for the second time and wishing I’d waited another year to be a fan, when Season 4 was done and the first 3 boxsets were at bargain prices. Sometimes it sucks to be a nerd.

    What Turncloak said. Unsullied for season 1, Sullied ever since. Remember seeing the first trailer and thinking, “yeah, I’m going to check this out.”

    Greatjon of Slumber,

    Was so unsullied when the show started. Have the dubious credentials of having to wait years and years for the next installment which really sucks. At least news of the show sort of kept me occupied during the wait.

    Unsullied for ever. Need something to look forward too. Can always and go back to the books for extra detail.

    Ditto., along with an acquaintance that clarified a bit about the overall story.
    Reading would be the most satisfying method to appreciate and gain better
    understanding of the characters and the plot.

    Greatjon of Slumber,

    I hated the first trailer. But it was a trailer made by a local TV channel and not an HBO trailer. The show looked stupid to me, and that’s hilarious now that I have become an addict of the franchise.

    I still remember the day when I figured out that Lancel and Loras were actually not the same character. Pretty funny stuff :)

    I remember well waiting and waiting for the show to air and worrying whether it would be well received by the viewing public. Also, hoping that it would be good enough to warrant a second season etc.
    Now those days are far behind us, I smile and laugh when I think about the anxiety I suffered!
    ‘Tis a long wait between seasons but an even longer one between books, egads!
    TWOW have been blowing cold & fierce here in blighty lately…if only they were the written kind instead!

    It was fun reading the comments from after the HBO Behind the Scenes video ran. One of the biggest concerns/complaints was that Gendry was too old. Now that we know he is also played Edric Storms scenes at Dragonstone, it makes sense, given how you could not have a 16 yr old actor going on Melissandre’s wild ride. Also I think Joe and Maisie were great together, and particularly as Maisie is getting older, the “ship” seems feasible….IF they ever meet again. ( I mean, by GOT standards, Arya/Gendry don’t even make it into the top 10 inappropriate relationships.) :)

    People are getting Unsullied and Sullied confused.

    Unsullied = not read the books
    Sullied = read the books

    I was Sullied for every season of the show, but still really enjoyed it. The show captures the essence of the books almost perfectly and makes the whole world of asoiaf come alive even more than when the books were on their own.

    I don’t know if we’re getting it confused.

    I was Unsullied during Season 1, getting interested thanks to a trailer with Sean Bean that gave it a serious “Lord of the Rings” vibe, of course, and knowing it had Peter Dinklage.

    Read books 1-4 between Seasons 1 and 2.

    Read ADwD in between 2 and 3.

    Going stir crazy between 3 and 4.

    Have been Sullied since ASoS was published. Saw the trailer on HBO and thought, “How the hell are they going to do these books justice?” I didn’t expect it to go more than one season until I saw ep 1 and was blown away.
    It is fun to look back here. I only discovered WiC after hanging out at Westeros and getting frustrated by all the show haters. I’m glad I decided to check you all out over here. Thanks for this site, guys and gals!

    One thing I remember from back then was everybody wondering if a fantasy series could break through to the ‘mainstream’.

    Which is why I think it’s pretty cool that the President is a fan of the show. (Good TV taste in general, IMO.)

    Tom Hilton,

    And the list of heavies continues. Mr. Obama has told people he is a big fan of “Game of Thrones,” a brutal imagining of the wars in medieval Europe.

    I think the author of the article hasn’t seen the show. Not surprising, given the publication. No wonder they consistently give the show the worst reviews.

    Still holding out hope for a little something after the re-air of ep30 tonight on HBO Sig. A 5 second flash of the RV v Mountain, or jousting dwarves, or a pyramid-shaped building, or Arya looking up at a ship, or a bigger dragon, or even just a premiere date on a black screen. Pie in the sky, I know, I know, oh oh oh…

    Valaquen,

    You have to understand, it was a very exciting time, but also very anxious as well. We all knew how strong the source material was but how it got translated and if would it catch on to the spare-to-fair t.v. audience was everyone’s primary concern (this was a fantasy show after all). We all wanted/needed to see this fourth season play out. Details were sparse up until this point. That video was like information overload.
    Now that we’re entering AFFC and ADWD material, hands are wringing for a different reason. Those two novels have some great moments, but man they are going to be a bitch to adapt.

    December 2010. Interesting that I started reading AGoT that very Christmas as a recommendation in a good books thread on a game forum. I didn’t find out there was going to be an HBO series until I’d just about finished it in January. I was so elated! I was able to then finish ACoK, ASoS and was halfway through AFfC when the series premiered. And, of course, read ADwD the moment it came out. I’m not the least bit sorry to have been sullied and would do it in that order all over again.

    You said it ! I’m awaiting an airing date as well, LOL . This pair of actors should

    This public service announcement should be posted everywhere. Other date formats are just silly.

    Also, for temperature I think both F and C are a bit silly. K would make more sense, but it would take a while to get used to.

    C is convenient if you’re making ice cubes or tea, but other than that, it’s just as arbitrary as F.

    F may seem completely arbitrary, but it’s got a convenient range for comfortable human habitation:
    0 = too damn cold
    25 = fun to play in the snow
    50 = good temperature for jogging
    75 = fun to play in the pool
    100 = too damn hot
