MGoT: Overheard at Craster’s Keep
By Winter Is Coming on in Filming, Media.

Making Game of Thrones has been updated with another “Overheard on Set” entry, this time bringing us phrases heard on the set of Craster’s Keep, plus an atmospheric new season 4 photo.

Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO

“Just be aware there are two bodies in the car, yeah?”

“Careful where you step, you’ll rip the snow.”

“They could really have their own show, ‘Chickens on Tour.’”

“Anyone seen the sword blood?”

Winter Is Coming: We had heard rumors of a return to Craster’s Keep in season 4 and now we have some official confirmation. What do you think Rast and the gang have been up to since we last saw them? Nothing good, I imagine.

The bottom of this link informs us of when these events will take place. In the Michelle MacLaren directed ep. 4. In conjunction with this we have exhibits A) http://www.spotlight.com/6697-3497-3183 and B) http://www.frontlineactors.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Deirdre-CV-Template.pdf which also mention MacLaren’s name.

Leaked rumours which I can’t verify, they came over reddit from people who were apparently extras say this added Craster’s Keep material will involve both Jon’s and Bran’s storylines. Ain’t that just dandy.

    Rygar,

Almost all of that info came off of releases from this very website that weren’t marked as spoilers. The callsheet I guess could be considered spoilers. But this post makes clear that Craster’s Keep is returning, so that in conjunction with previous post would confirm we’re going back there anyway. My post didn’t say what the sullied folks suspect will happen there.

As for spoiler tags, I’ve tried time and again to get those to work. They clearly work for some of your computers but not for mine.

Maybe I’m missing something, it’s been awhile since I read the books, but I don’t see how you spoiled anything and I really don’t understand why non-book readers would come here to read comments anyway. I get the whole ‘spoiler tag’ thing, but only a Hodor type would read the comments for a show that he/she knows will contain spoilers. The world is full of assholes looking to ruin your experience. If you’re dumb enough to trek into the minefield, you deserve to be SPOILED! amen.

Its not the books being spoiled. Its spoiling real plot points for S4 due to a call sheet in a thread about speculating what may happen at a return to Crasters Keep. Its a show spoiler.

Okay, now armed thusly I will try to prompt the speculation I had hoped to prompt earlier.

In one of those unverifiable reddit comments we saw earlier, it said that Jon gives a big speech about the need to send a ranging up to Craster’s. Another one said that Bran and co. are capture there and are rescued by an unlikely source. Does this mean we’ll actually see Coldhands? Or that the WW will come? Or that Bran will warg into Hodor and kick some arse utilizing the big guy’s strength? If it’s the latter than maybe its understandable why Mr. Nairn was so hyped about this season.

whoops, spoiler tags didn’t work for some reason so I deleted the post I made a few seconds ago and don’t feel like typing out the whole thing again, but the point I was making was.

That certain storylines are already at their Feast/Dance parts while others are still dealing with the rest of Storm, so I’m worried most of this season will be filler since D&D (from casting that has been released) don’t seem like they want to start the next book until season 5, maybe to give Martin more time to write

I have trouble with the term “filler” (even though I am also guilty of using it)…there are many non-PoV scenarios that could be explored in S4 (especially as the threads get diluted) and beyond…and many opportunities for GoT to expand on storylines as they continue toward their ultimate ADwD+ destination (hopefully not just with sex scenes and sexposition!). For the most part, I think their artistic interpretations and departures from the books have been satisfactory (and we debate about it continuously). We simply hope they make the right choices for the characters we care about.

Regarding GRRM’s writing, one can only dream that he is working the story out in his head and will have something for us to read soon. If anything though, D&D will get it first (probably already have, to some extent). Go to Westeros if you really want some intense analysis on that subject and all its derivative topics. We jest and joke about pizza deliveries and S5, S6 show-book possibilities (and show surpassing book), but this is GRRM’s world and he determines its orbit and seasons, to the obvious frustration of many. Arrrgghhh!

I really don’t see how anything Greenjones posted in his first batch of link is anywhere near being a “spoiler”. The whole point of WiC’s post is to point out that S4 will see a return to Craster’s Keep. All Greenjones added to that was the probable episode number as well as a couple of specific actors/characters we’ll see there, neither of which should have been surprising to anyone. And yeah, there’s information about another event on the pink call-sheet—minor details of an event which itself should be no surprise, since it’s been in the works since the end of season 2.

If you’re that worried about spoilers, you probably don’t want to follow links which you know lead to an actor’s CV.

    Ser Tahu,

Since you predicted the Polliver business to happen in ep. eight, I feel the need to swoop in with this link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2655938/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr33 That guy is credited as double for the actor who plays Polliver and in ep. one.

I’m aware that most of the names credited in episode one are placed there arbitrarily and just fill in the new cast names, but the same is not true for the crew names. This stunt man’s name is very specifically placed in ways not average imdb editor could have made up. This doesn’t certainly place the show’s version of the Inn at the Crossroads incident here, because the guy who plays Rorge will be in multiple episodes this season, but if Polliver would need a stunt double so early, maybe they’re splitting into two encounters with the Mountain’s men. After all D and D said the season would start off with a bang.

I do agree with your assumption that the A and H storyline will resolve around that point of the season though.

I wonder if Jack was required to lie on his bier still during the whole ordeal like Gethin (Renly) did during Littlefinger’s encounter with Margaery? It would get him into 3 episodes this season at least, James Cosmo was credited for as much these last 2 seasons! Maybe Charles will be brought back for his own, which will presumably be in 501.

    Hodor’s Bastard,

In one of those Flicks and the City interviews, Julian Glover (Pycelle) mentioned working with something disgusting because of his characters Maesterly duties. This could refer to many King’s Landing things throughout the season, but one possibility could be the opening of Joff’s throat. I think many audience members might get a sadistic kick out of that, no matter how gross.

P.S. (and passive aggressively) I think I’ll just spoiler tag everything I say from now on to avoid the ire of certain elements of this board.

Valyrian Plastic: I wonder if Jack was required to lie on his bier still during the whole ordeal like Gethin (Renly) did during Littlefinger’s encounter with Margaery? It would get him into 3 episodes this season at least, James Cosmo was credited for as much these last 2 seasons! Maybe Charles will be brought back for his own, which will presumably be in 501.

Hah! I can see it now. GoT starts a new trend at open-casket funerals. Sort of like being in the mile-high club!

    Hodor’s Bastard,

I wonder if there will be time in ep. ten for Qyburn treating dying Gregor. Its likely that it will a pack enough episode as it is but I think it would be interesting to see. Especially because in show canon, Qyburn had his throat slit by Gregor’s men. I loved that bug-eyed moment form Anton Lesser as he was a-treating Jaime, a great psycho moment of acting. I think it would be fitting to see the Mountain getting his due at the hands of a different brand of evil.

People will go crazy after that scene. If they cut, book readers will go crazy, if they don’t, and I assume they won’t, we’ll a see a whinefest about gratuitous (and insane) sex scenes on the show. Again. Just like Hodor naked on the godswood on the first series. They didn’t explain the whole deal about bathing on the pools, I think, and some people just thought that was the weirdest sexposition scene they’ve ever saw. I want the scene to make it to the show. It just shows how absolutely creepy Cersei and Jaime’s relationship is.

As much as we jest, I’m afraid you may be correct. For some reason, as soon as I saw that “reunion” scene in “Mhysa”, I thought of how it screwed up some of the subsequent J+C scenes (not to mention the PW). We are all speculators regarding all J scenes in early S4.

    Hodor’s Bastard,

They might mix it with the one in Jaime’s last KL chapter and have him reject her advances. As for Jaime’s scenes in the first two episodes, I think they will just be his same first scenes with other characters (except Cersei).

Will they be ballsy enough to show the continued twincest, or was Jaime’s redemption absolute? I guess that’s what we’ll find out.

I was aware of that. I tried to cover that in this part of my episode 1 prediction:
We then jump to Gregor, Polliver, Rorge and Biter at an inn in the Riverlands on their way to Harrenhal. They are essentially raping and pillaging.

    Ser Tahu,

I don’t know though if they would show those characters in an episode one, without a main cast member/POV being around. The Innkeeper’s Daughter casting for ep. 1 http://www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/1/F88066.html point to the presence of some of Gregor’s men in that episode but my feeling is that this will likely be through the eyes of our Riverlands POV Arya.

Maybe it could tie in Blackfish or the BwB though. I doubt however that it would cut to them alone.

    Ser Tahu,

BTW having read your predictions now, I have a few quibbles to make based on what actors CVs can prove. Leaf will not rescue Bran in eps four or five, because the actress is cast in an Alex Graves directed episode. I predict this will be eight or ten or both. Also the girl playing Myranda is credited as appearing in more than just one episode, with her CV crediting “various directors”.

Besides that I hope for a Bolton father/reunion before Season 5 but you may be right on that score.

For all my fellow countrymen (and women) who live in Germany and didn’t like the dragon cover for the season 3 box like me, Amazon.de has a Limited Edition in stock at the moment, which has a much nicer cover. You can get it for the DVD and BD set, and the price is the same as for the normal Edition, at least right now. It could sell out pretty quickly, depending on how “limited” it really is.

Valid points. I actually meant to put at the bottom of my predictions a little disclaimer saying “Now I just need to wait for the season to air and prove me completely wrong” :P. There are definitely a few things like that which I have missed or forgotten, and I can’t think of a way that it could be done that would line up with that information.

I’m hoping for one of those Lannister family scenes the show does so well, that would include Tywin and all three of his children. (Possibly Joffrey as well.) We’ve never seen all of them in the same place, but since they’re now all in KL, it’s a possibility. Imagine the potential for character moments and high-lighting of messed-up family dynamics!

Btw, love the Bionicle! I’ve got you on my bookshelf!

As always, I enjoy your ever-maturing S4 predictions as we discover formal revelations about S4. However, I demand that you bulletize or number your scenes in each episode! :)

    I especially like the following:
–Opening with a hint of LS via BwB (although I want more!)
–Extending Arya and the Hound’s adventures throughout the whole season.
    –Craster’s mayhem!
    –Battle at CB
–Dany trying to prevent Drogon from eating corpses until the inevitable happens
    –Balon vs Euron

Furthermore, I hope they explore the following:
–A cool, surreal intro of Leaf (near Craster’s or during the forest trek) before BR’s cave….and maybe even delay BR’s cave until ep 10
–More than just glimpses of Summer, Ghost or Nymeria
–Jaime’s reaction to Joffrey’s death at the PW
–The location of Blackfish (for continuity)

Appreciate everyone’s predictions (and subsequent debates)!

    Scott,

I have another quibble based on an actor’s CV. You speculate that Arya and the Hound will meet the Knight of the Gate in ep. 6 when Alisdair Simpson’s CV http://www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/cv.asp?ref=M45375&pub=1 states he is in 2 eps. one directed by Alex Graves and Michelle MacLaren which means either ep 2, 3, 8 or ten for the former and either 4 or 5 for the latter.

I think it is likely that the Knight of the Gate will appearat one point through Sansa’s POV and Arya’s though I can’t really think up which would happen first. The Arya in the Vale and being so close yet so far from Sansa will likely be highlighted though.

Yeah, I was kind of obsessed with bionicles when I first used Tahu as a username. It was ~10 years ago, and I was making a Runescape account :P.

I might come back and number the scenes later. I’m currently working out my predictions for S5 (I do it first in an excel spreadsheet).

For the Daenerys thing: Since it is confirmed that the Drogon child eating will be in this season they will have to build it up over the season. My logic was: “What better way to build it up, and set the tone for Daenerys’ ADwD stuff, than for her to be in complete denial that the problem exists until it is staring her in the face and she can’t avoid it”.

I have no clue for the Blackfish. I originally thought that they might show him returning to Riverrun, but it’s confirmed that we won’t see Riverrun this season.

EDIT: Perhaps They could have a scene somewhere in the middle of the season where Black Walder and some Frey soldiers are attempting to find him. He attacks them and kills a few of them, and Black Walder retreats? But I think it is more likely that it will just be mentioned that he has returned to Riverrun, without him appearing onscreen in the season. He wouldn’t be the only absence this season; Rickon, Osha, Edmure and Gendry look very, very unlikely to appear.

    Greenjones,
Oh well. I can’t be bothered fixing that stuff now :P. I like to think I might be on the right track with my predictions in general, even if they aren’t perfect.

    Ser Tahu,

Have you considered the possibility also that Dontos doesn’t die when we are reunited with Littlefinger and that he takes the place of Marillion when in the Eyrie? That would be expedient of the writers and it would save his role from being too abrupt as in “remember this guy who we met for two minutes two years ago, you’ve got to know him know and now he’s dead”. Tony Way’s CV says “various” directors. I’ve been citing CVs but I don’t know as yet how general the term “various” is used.

If he were to die in ep. 3, as he would have to in book chronology, thwn that would mean he worked with D and D and with Alex Graves. I’ve seen CVs, like the one I linked for Alisdair Simpson, that list more than one director. So does “various” point to his role extending beyond his book counterpart’s lifespan?

    Greenjones,
In my predictions I have reworked the Arya/Sansa storylines so that Arya/Sandor at the gate and Petyr/Sansa’s arrival are in episode 5 (a Michelle Maclaren episode). As for his Alex Graves episode, I have him as the guy that arrests Dontos in the finale :P.

EDIT: actually, scrap that Alex Grave/finale bit, I thought of a better idea: If they show Littlefinger leaving the Vale in the premiere he could give the knight his orders to stop letting refugees in.

EDIT 2: I also thought of a Stannis scene for the premiere so that it lines up with Carice’s script.

    Greenjones,

It’s a good idea. But I was looking through Tony Way’s twitter a while back and it really seems like he only did a couple scenes of filming. He went to Belfast twice for like single-day periods, and then was in Dubrovnik for the wedding. That makes sense if he WASN’T going to the Eyrie: one scene filmed in Belfast to re-introduce him to the audience and meet with Sansa quickly; scenes during the wedding and escape in Dubrovnik; and scene on the boat in Belfast where he is killed.

Have we got confirmation that Kevan will be appearing this season? My assumption was that since Jaime had arrived in King’s Landing earlier than in the books that Kevan’s role of being Tyrion’s link to the outside leading up to and during the trial would be taken by Jaime (as his one close advocate who then decides to free him once he’s scheduled to be executed). Gives Jaime a little more to do this season as well and I’m not entirely sure what they’re doing with Kevan as the series goes on.

I had thought that his reintroduction would have been shot outdoors in that outdoor Croatian location they had used last season for Sansa’s praying spot. I can’t tell if he shot one day there or two though. As for Belfast he may have shot a couple days.

    Greenjones,

I’m not saying we won’t see Kevan again but the whole role that he plays interacting with Tyrion prior to and during the trial would seem to be much more effectively served by Jaime. As the Lannister family member who actually cares about and likes Tyrion, why wouldn’t Jaime be the one chatting with him and giving him counsel over this time?

Kevan is a non-entity on the show to this point and shoehorning him in to play this particular role and then letting him recede into the background again doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. If you want to bring him into the story once we get into the serious Cersei as ruler stuff and give him something significant to do, I think that’s the best spot to re-introduce him. Just my opinion.

  110. Valyrian Plastic

    King Tommen,

It would be pretty easy to bring him back in at Tywin’s Funeral, which probably won’t happen until early on in season 5. One could say his continuous absence may be down to politics over at Casterly Rock, even if he is brought back earlier on like at PW. Only issue with that may be establishing him as Tywin’s younger brother, especially as he’s only been referred to as “uncle” by Joffrey in season 1, and there are a couple of possibilities there.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned previously, but I personally have suspicion that Rickon and Osha show up in Season 4, albeit very briefly. Nathalie Tena’s band, Molotov Jukebox, posted on their Facebook page a while ago that they were cancelling shows in the first half of november so that Nathalie could do some last minute, “secret” acting for something. Meanwhile, it appears that Art Parkinson (from his twitter) was hanging out (presumably) in Belfast with Kerry Ingram (Shireen) and Brennock O’Connor (“Boy in Hamlet” mystery casting?) around early november. We know that Art Parkinson already did some GoT work earlier in the summer, I think, because of his tweets (presumably maybe for Bran-dreams?), so this would be something else. So there’s something, maybe?

This is due to a last minute and important (still secret) acting role which Nat had no choice but to take.”

    Mayhaps a cameo.

That seems plausible, certainly compared to the other theory that went around that Ramsay would be trying to hunt them down, which would only really happen if Rickon and Osha took a wrong fork in the road on the way to Last Hearth. Something’s needed to remind people before Skagos Seaworth comes into play, that they’re still out there, cold and alone in a world where everyone is now a potential threat, even those once fiercely-loyal to the Starks.
