  • Yes that’s the mountain!! (I’m imagining the helm). The sword is perfect, the suit is perfect and with good old fashioned camera trickery we’ll have an 8ft monster that they reckon can’t be beaten.. April can’t come quick enough.

  • Must be wearing a helmet during all his scenes because they sure didn’t age him up enough to look like Rory McCann older brother.

  • Rygar,

The whole point of having a greatsword is that he’s the only one who can hold it one handed easily. He’ll have to anyway because he has a shield… What’s KG again? It’s been a while..

  • He does look tough enough, but not quite so old as Conan’s or even Ian’s Gregor (which on closer inspection barely look alike anyway). If he’s not going to wear a helm half the time then they should age his face up a bit. He must be in his late-30s/early-40s to look right, because that’s not the face of the man who “Raped her, murdered her and killed her children”, 19 years before.

He did this interview with an Icelandic TV station ages ago, but when I first found it the subtitles hadn’t been put on so I’m not sure how good it’ll be.

  • Off topic, but when do we expect the cast page for season 4? do we even know who the majority of cast members/characters are that will actually have roles this coming season, either returning from last season, previous seasons, or newly introduced? I know oberyn, at the very least, and gregor, but who else new and/or returning?

  • Valyrian Plastic,

    Thanks for the link.

Not a lot of info in that video, but at least we now know that the Mountain will appear in 3 episodes.

Also, LOL @ them showing the giant from S3 as if this was supposed to be the Mountain.

  • Valyrian Plastic:

Hah! As I mentioned before (in another thread), the Mountain does not smile, he is full of hate and sociopathic tendencies. And one never would carry a sharp broad sword in that manner! I smell a mummery!

  • Lef: Not a lot of info in that video, but at least we now know that the Mountain will appear in 3 episodes.

Right now that’s as good a bit of news as we’re like to get. I knew when I heard it without subtitles he mentioned Belfast, so now I wonder, could this be the long-speculated innkeep’s daughter rape with Polliver and Rorge? He seems like a cool guy though, I hope they keep him on for something else in the show, not necessarily human (Wun Wun?). Unlike the main actors and producers he’s clearly under no pressure to keep certain production details a secret, but it’s good he didn’t tell all really.

  • Awww, he looks surprisingly adorable for a guy who could crush me with his little finger.

3 episodes for Gregor sounds about right. 2 episodes was always going to be the bare minimum and a third one will probably be used to emphasize how horrible he is. And yes, the inn is our best bet.

  • A post for all of one picture… It seems the news drought really has begun. Oh dear lord of light, give us a BTS and a release date reveal!

  • Family, Duty, Hodor,

That is one scene I am not looking forward to. I don’t need to see any rape scenes on tv. I rather that’s not the case. I was able to handle Brienne’s and Sansa’s almost rape but I hope they don’t push things too far.

  • Keep the helm on him and he’s a perfect Gregor, otherwise he’s more like The Mountain’s spawn, gotten off of some raped Riverlands wench.

  • These 3 episodes will probably be 401 (in the Riverlands), 4, 5 or 6 (his arrival and subsequent failed seizure by the Dornish- if those other teased photos are anything to go by http://winteriscoming.net/2013/09/new-behind-the-scenes-photos-from-dubrovnik/) and finally, 7 or 8 (the big one). It would be very similar to when they showed Jaime captured at Robb’s camp in 201, then him being off-screen completely until 207 when he had his second-finest hour. Only difference is, the Mountain won’t come out so lucky in the end.

  • The Spider:
He will most likely fight without a helm. Facial expressions make the fight more dramátic

And seven hells of a lot easier to follow the choreography too!

  • He looks too “nice”. He should be menacing enough to make children cry just seeing his picture. Not mistaking him for Santa’s more handsome younger borther. But then again… maybe that was why the first Mountain ended up as Bolg in Hobbit.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

That three episode info from the video is the real important tidbit here. From his time in Belfast and that info about Polliver and the innkeeper’s daughter, I infer ep one. That bit in public where he’s killing commoners shirtless on the city walls is confirmed ep 7 via this link https://twitter.com/alexehrhard/status/376461635655065600/photo/1 which leaves him duelling in number eight.

As for him smiling, this is off his instagram so why shouldn’t he smile. He’s not in character. For closer shots (also as per his instagram and wicnet tumblr) he was fitted with a scar to look more menacing and whatnot. When he scowls he looks older.

  • Greenjones,

Thanks for clearing that bit up. Sometimes it’s a matter of seeing instead of looking, and I hope the man who gave us that lesson is out there, somewhere.

Speaking of which, do you think Mark Gattiss with play Tycho with the same Medi-influenced accent as Miltos played Syrio? Whenever I hear Braavos I think of his accent, and I imagine the rest of the viewers do as well, so it wouldn’t be right if the head of the Iron Bank was just Mycroft Holmes in a funny hat.

Lastly, I think this song would be perfect for the Dornish party’s arrival. It has the name, the perfect stop and start rhythm and more importantly, it was used when the Stark’s arrived in the capital in 103 so it’ll be familiar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTLjeuwSEf4

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Well Gatiss said something about “hair” which implies a wig. Nestoris has a distinctive beard so maybe he means that. I don’t know what accent he will do, because Mero last season was just British sounding. But then I’ve seen youtube videos of Gatiss doing European accents in sketches so who knows.

Your link didn’t work on my computer. What song did you mean? The Kingsroad?

  • Greenjones,

It was The Kingsroad, which has recently become my favourite cut from the first season soundtrack so that’s another reason to try get it back on the show. But we’ll probably get some exotic instrumentation for Oberyn and the rest of Dorne in time. I see (well hear) them as sounding Eastern, similar to Dany’s themes, but it’s probably too obvious a link so I’m sure Ramin won’t go there after all.

  • Shouldn’t there be a scene in episode 10 wherehe’s in Qyburn’s cellars screaming down the Red Keep?

  • House Mormont,

That might not be far off. He said he spent a week in Belfast, so they might have also found some studio time for him as well. He may have said he filmed for 3 episodes, but things are switched around a lot in TV, and those moments filmed for 407 may be moved to mid-season for all we know.

  • Fantastic pic! Finally! I like his smile! Why not! While Conan Stevens is still part and parcel of my foreverdom as The Mountain, I have to say that casting Thor, was quite inspired! I think he will be fantastic!

If you doubt his ability to pull off “ferocious” and “psychopatic…I would suggest search for his competition and training videos on Google or YouTube…

  • Wow,

He really fills out that armor. I can’t wait to see this duel! I guarantee it’ll be on YouTube shortly after its first airing and I will be watching it 20 times in a row.

Please D&D do not fail us with all our expectations of this fight! I want to hear The Red Viper say all the book lines!

  • Brock:
Wonder why some actors are allowed to post on set pictures while some aren’t.

Do you wanna be the one to have to tell Thor he isn’t allowed to do something? ;)

  • House Mormont,

His Belfast stuff could well have been Paint Hall interiors (which your suggestion would include). I hope they do show the aftermath for him and his own suffering as a result (especially because in show canon, it was him/his men who left Qyburn for dead). But given the evidence we have with Polliver and the Innkeeper’s daughter, I think it is likely we might be seeing him in episode one to re-establish him (probably from Arya’s POV) as both a really evil piece of work and Sandor’s sibling.

  • Well this prepares me for one of my favorite scenes in the books. I really hope it goes down as I’ve imagined.

  • At least he looks like the mountain from season 1.

They really need to be careful with playing musical chairs with different actors playing a character.

The season 2 mountain looked skinny and tall and looked totally off from the mountain of season 1.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Well that pretty much encompasses the concerns many of us have…don’t really want to see Mickey Rourke’s weird face after posting on WIC.net. Then again that’s perhaps what happens to the Faceless Men after being too long on the job!

That site is exactly what we want to avoid! It has nothing in common with what WIC.net is and should be about.

  • How disappointing they changed the character’s actor. Doesn’t look anything like the original actor at all…

  • PattonFiend:
How disappointing they changed the character’s actor. Doesn’t look anything like the original actor at all…

    I hope that’s irony.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Well first off that site took about 4mins for my iPhone 4 to load because of all the (click bait or whatever they are called) links.

Secondly and my major issue is that site is soley designed for advertisement and not fan interaction/discussing.

The difference between a corporate website (making profit the primary purpose) and a fan ran website like this one (creating fan interaction it’s primary purpose with a secondary purpose if creating a little cash flow) really shows…

This site is designed to create discussion and that site is designed to create money…

If Phil and the WiC soldiers could make sure the redesign doesn’t turn into that link you provided it would be greatly appreciated…

I will really miss all you guys otherwise…

  • Arthur,
    loco73,
    Where is Geekfurious,
I share your concerns. That design may work for ADD types who want a dashboard headline-only experience for digesting entertainment/sports info, but I am just not that kind of fanboy. :(

Nevertheless, I will reserve judgment for a later date. I respect the idea of WiC too much to not jump into the abyss of discontent.

  • The young age is very noticable

All Im saying. They should definitely just keep his helmet on, but we know they wont…

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

    Yeah I agree.

I also will keep an open mind about upcoming changes. I just hope the new site will generate as much discussion as this one…

I really enjoy to nerdgasm and nerdrage with everyone here.

  • Lex,

    I think I can help you out…

Imagine him smiling there because he just murdered a woman’s children then rapped her and murdered her as well…

    All better now? =]

  • Just reread the fight, with this pic in mind and all of those ones from Christmas Eve. I imagine the backstory of the RV will be peppered throughout the earlier season. I assume the ep. seven Clegane on the city walls business (and in that picture on the wicnet tumblr with Cersei in a black gown) is a scene where Cersei gets the Mountain to kill folks where Tyrion can see from his tower cell window. He could talk to the RV or Bronn during that.

This would be a good background for Bronn to refuse to champion Tyrion and/or for Oberyn to explain his particular hatred for the man. The duel itself will be brilliant TV (particularly if they set up the RV with a good deal of screentime and maybe a main cast credit for the sake of misleading the folks). The way it plays out going from a neck-and-neck nail biter conflict then to a big hope spot…then to an apparent fist-shaking triumphal moment…and then to one of those GoT trademark soul-crushing moments. This is the sort of thing that D and D do really well and will rile people up next year.

  • Jentario,

January 2013 marked a slow period for previews and releases , followed afterwards
with full page news-press adverts. Later, still with collages of other returning programmes due for a new season. When trails did return in earnest, each were stellar and worth the wait. It seems that with all the cloaked story lines and tightly held secrets, there’s been less to speculate by. I’m sure this is of HBO and/or the production, to maximize the full impact of surprise in the new season ( to the chagrin of obsessed fans awaiting any morsel of news ). Anxious though I am, I can be patient when called for, but I’m less so if we have to wait until March , for trailers. I’ll compromise with February.

  • Greenjones,

And whilst the Unsullied mourn and scream bloody murder at the RV ‘s death, D & D deliver an epic follow through: Battle of Castle Black, Ygritte’s death, Stannis! the Mountain succumbs, Tywin’s death, Lady Lysa taking flight and ending with Lady Stoneheart hanging some Freys. The potential is incredible. I look forward to the twitter responses for 8, 9 and 10!

  • Joshua Atreides,

Not to mention that other big events will likely happen in ep. eight as well. Bran and Dany’s storylines may reach high points as well (with the Child of the Forest and the Goatherd’s CV’s pointing to eps. eight or ten for their appearances and the scene’s their presence entails).

This season will be very hard to follow.

  • Greenjones,

I agree with everything you said, however…

I am guessing the men The Mountain walks around skewering are Dornish men. I am sure there will be some tension and unease between the Dornish men and The Mountain at some point and that tension will climax with that (one man army) killing spree.

  • He will make a phenomenal Mountain!

Bjornsson’s smile is so friendly, totally unlike his character. Made me laugh.

  • Greenjones,

Thx ! Yeah I thought that’s how I remembered reading it ! It’s how Cerci tries to pimp him up a bit to make him seem like he is truly carrying out ‘ The Gods ‘ Justice by giveing him a sure coat and changeing his sigil on his shield ! When in reality he is just a mindless killing machine ! Would of been nice to see those touches added ! But it’s no biggie ! Carnt wait to see this duel .

  • Carne,

The third one we’ve been familiar with for some time because there was an interview with Mr Kent where he described his role as being important, a tragic scene involving Drogon brought backward from aDwD.

These other two are new. I wonder who “Morgan” is. How did you find these names BTW, because trawling through casting info (particularly reading who is directing which small part) can tell us interesting things.

  • Greenjones,

Hadn’t heard about Kent’s scene. Interesting!

I found Molloy and Kent just browsing through casting agencies. I found Rilley on IMDb. Might be this Morgan.

  • Carne,

I knew about the last casting, but the other two are news to me. In this article Darren Kent talks a little bit more about the role and there is a picture of him in costume as well. The article is a little spoilerish IIRC, especially for book readers!

Edit: Greenjones beat me to it…

  • Greenjones,

I really hope EPs 4-7 will still be great. But I’m confident, the material is as good if not better than last year’s Mid-Season.

  • Carne,

I hope that’s who he is. Stannis interacting with a drunk would be a nice comedy duo. (I’m glad that they made Roose rather than Stannis a teetotaler BTW, he’s a hardass but not to that degree.)

    Ozymandias,

They have Arya and the Hound, whatever happens with the Greyjoys and Boltons and Meereen for the mid-season. Also their Night’s Watch/Craster’s Keep invented stuff. It’ll be fine.

  • Abyss,

wowww, I can’t believe he didn’t stop crying for 25 minutes! I’m quite excited/dreading it! They must be making a lot more of it than in the books

  • Ozymandias,

    Roose: I don’t partake.

Tywin: By the Seven! Even I do that. At least I’m taller than you. How about your kids…they nice and dysfunctional?

Roose: I’ll have Ramsay ask Domeric about that…

Tywin: How about smiling only seldom and always for unpleasant reasons?

    Roose: Yep.

  • Greenjones,
    Carne,
    Abyss,

Darren, who has appeared in several US productions, said: “My character is in a very important episode in the series – the dragons are completely out of control and it comes to a head in that episode.

Hmm…..”dragons”? Are we talking more than just a little girl killed by Drogon? Possibly a massacre and mass dragon feeding?

  • Also, This guy’s credits are rather interesting. Elden has ‘Meereen champion / body double’ listed, so not sure if he’s actually playing the character or just doubling. He mentions stuntie Tom Cox who might be the stunt double.

  • Ozymandias:
    Hodor’s Bastard,
    Chaining of the dragons probably
But that does not seem dramatic enough.

Yeah, I know that’s where were headed….but are they going to make it a multi-dragon massacre/chaotic event that causes Dany to chain R & V, rather than a little child killed by Drogon from the books? I have a feeling the show will be a bit more chaotic. If that is true, will Drogon leave mother Dany before the end of S4? Wow.

  • Abyss,

    Wow awesome article…

Interesting how he says him and most of the crew couldn’t stop crying after the shoot for at least 25mins due to the scene being so “Harrowing”

I had to look up that word just to be sure what he meant:

Being attacked by a hungry shark or being chased by an unruly mob on the streets can be described as harrowing, which means “provoking feelings of fear or horror.”

Sounds to me like D&D are going to give us a way more terrorizing scene than just Drogon eating a child. Maybe a whole herd of goats? Maybe a whole family as well? Sounds like Drogon and the crew are going to have a great scene coming in season 4. Damn I can’t wait!

Hurry up and give us a trailer!!!

  • Hodor’s Bastard,
    Arthur,

I’m pretty sure he meant emotionally harrowing. If they stick to the books he’s a guy emotionally confronting his new Queen and telling her that his daughter was killed by her supposed children. I imagine Dany will be upset by this as well. I assume that the crew were crying for the same reason they cried during Catelyn’s RW speech because of powerful acting.

  • Patchy Face,

I had to google it too! I knew there was no way I could not have heard if the next instalment was set for confirmed release in 2014, let alone with such a name change!

  • “Hi, I’ll be your Mountain today, can I take your order? Want fries with that?”

Kidding. He’ll be awesome. Looks close enough, he’s thicker all over than Whyte, he’ll work just great. Awesome.

  • Abyss:
    Carne,

I knew about the last casting, but the other two are news to me. In this article Darren Kent talks a little bit more about the role and there is a picture of him in costume as well. The article is a little spoilerish IIRC, especially for book readers!

Edit: Greenjones beat me to it…

Holy shite! The season finale has become even more awesome! Can’t wait.

  • All this talk made me want a trailer even more. Oh, please Gods I don’t think I can live another day without a teaser or something! Where is my traileeeerrr!?

  • Hey guys, I´ve been to Dubrovnik this summer and i´m pretty sure i know the place where this pic was shot. It looks a lot like the place where most of the queen of thornes scenes were made, as well as some other scenes featuring sansa. It´s a place called “Trsteno Arboretum” and it´s about 5 miles away from Dubrovnik. I wonder if Bjronsson was shooting there. Maybe a little chat with Cersei?

  • Remind me: When did we first get a real trailer/decent teaser for season 3? I feel like it’s about time again.

  • sjwenings,

We only got a full length trailer late in February. But we did get a Behind the Scenes video in December and a short teaser revealing the premier date by December. So, in a sense, it’s anyone’s guess when we’ll get our first look (well, second- after the six seconds in the HBO Happy Holidays video). Some speculate that we will see something in Janurary 12th on HBO alongside the premiers of True Detective and Girls, which makes a lot of sense.

  • He does look young but so does the red viper. I think it’ll be fine. His size and presence will make up for it during his few scenes. I’m sure it won’t be too distracting.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

This will be good simply the non reader Dany haters will silennced when they realize she’s not a Mary Sue at all. She has many obstacles to overcome despite being blessed with dragons. I also wonder if Jorah will be exiled in the season 4 finale?

  • Joshua Atreides,
    Hah! “Mary Sue”…very funny.
Although last season had its fun with Dany, this season should present a much darker path for her. Her “winning” must come with a severe price.

By the way, after reading TP&tQ, I am troubled by the so-called “advantage” of having dragons. GRRM did not paint a very promising picture of the Targaryens and their dragons. They didn’t respect the “with great power comes great responsibility” adage that comes with ruling. I hope GRRM takes Dany in a different direction and she gets better strategic battle advice….if she is even in the conquering mood anymore after meeting with the Dothraki.

  • Well, Hafthor here definitely looks like he fits the armor well. The big goofy grin though says a bit about the person in that armor – IE that he seems really happy to be there and part of such a big thing. We’ll see how he actually is in the show. Personally, I feel confident.

  • Galen Firestone,

He’s clearly loving what is, after all, his first ever acting role, and it’s good he’s not camera shy either. He’s come 3rd in 2012 and 2013 in the World’s Strongest Man competitions, and aiming to make it to the top spot (and why not, he’s only 25!!!), so the fact he’s been willing to sacrifice nearly a month of his training schedule to play this part is inspiring to say the least. He’ll be back I’m sure, but will it be as this? http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Ser_robert_strong.jpg, or this? http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:White_walkers_by_reneaigner.jpg, or this? http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Wun_Wun.jpg

  • Carne,

that looks like the same cliff that the Meereen champion was riding towards in the 6 seconds clip, she does look radiant. Although, do they let her eyebrows be darker every season?

    Hodor’s Bastard,

I was thinking about this last night after watching 5×03 of breaking bad, you know how George wanted to make a character as dark and understandable as WW, well I think that’s Danaerys. If you’ve read the meereeneseblot articles about her, her last chapter points towards a darker “dragon” path after the problems she faced trying to save people in Meereen, so I guess she’s in the conquering mood

  • House Mormont,

He never said that he wanted to make a “character as dark and understandable as WW”… What he actually said is:

Walter White is a bigger monster than anyone in Westeros.

(I need to do something about that).

And that was clearly meant as a “joke”.

  • House Mormont,

    [BB minor spoiler!]

WW’s ongoing explanation: “I just wanted to provide for my family when I’m gone!”
WW’s final explanation: “I did it for me, because I could.”

Especially after reading TP&tQ, I agree with you. The Targaryens are a narcissistic, deluded bunch….quite dark and tragic actually. A parallel with WW would be quite welcome, imho. I quite enjoy the M blot and I absolutely thought GRRM’s comment about WW was so cool. He got it.

  • Eleanor:
Irrelevant but hilarious: Sydney Morning Herald says

    Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

    Sorry, Sydneysider fans.

I hope HB is correct. Thanks for the link ( :

  • Hodor’s Bastard: WW’s ongoing explanation: “I just wanted to provide for my family when I’m gone!”
WW’s final explanation: “I did it for me, because I could.”

Very true, however his words and actions demonstrate a most conflicted man. Even in
the end, one could argue that his original intent bore some resemblance. Not even
for a moment, could I compare him to the cold hearted malice of the Lannisters ( Tywin
    especially ).

    * cringes and waits for the Goldcloak swords to be drawn * ( :

  • WildSeed: I hope HB is correct. Thanks for the link( :

Over on Westeros, they’ve been talking about this D&E (Dunk & Egg) collection for about a year. I guess the title for it has been finalized (The Knight of the 7 Kingdoms). It was supposed to have 4 D&E tales (3 already published and a new one concerning D&E in Winterfell as they travel north) but GRRM has formally stated that it will only consolidate the 3 previously published D&E tales (which have appeared in various anthologies over the years). It’s turned into another money-making opportunity, with no new content. GRRM will not write the 4th D&E tale until after TWoW is completed.

For those who don’t know….the D&E tales (The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight) take place about 150 years before ASoI&F. Dunk is a Hedge Knight and Egg (Aegon) is his squire, who will become King Aegon. They have various adventures in Westeros before returning to KL. If you want to learn more about the Targaryens, Blackfyre pretenders and especially Bloodraven, they are full of that kind of info. Decent, simple reads.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Maybe they’ll finally get to do the audiobooks as well. Each story’s probably 7 or 8 hours apiece so it would keep Roy’s vocal chords warmed up for TWOW (should he last that long, fingers crossed).

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Yes, I’m aware. I was as disappointed as anyone, when the bound version didn’t
occur and include a fourth novella. I may be also mixing up the ” Dangerous Women”
publication, needless to say, I was sadly disappointed with all. George RRM did
state that the content and timing wasn’t to his liking, and I respect that. Some authors
are willing publish anything for a farthing.

  • Lef,

pretty sure he’s said multiple things on the subject, but whatever my point still stands on the future of her character

    Hodor’s Bastard,

and that’s good! he might actually finish twow in 2014 then

  • WildSeed,

Edit : I added more to the above paragraph, but the comment edit didn’t print the result
even tho the time hadn’t run out………..

the recent December 2013 release of ” Dangerous Women ” anthology is garnering excellent reviews at the US-Amazon site. I’m about to place an order with my local independent bookseller. Just in time as I’m finishing up another unrelated book series.

  • WildSeed,

I’m interested in what you and other Sullied have to say about TP&tQ in Dangerous Women. At Westeros, the opinions are all over the place. Imho, after reading it, no one should ever let the Targaryens lead, at all costs…..which doesn’t bode well for Dany and fAegon. I do hope GRRM takes Dany in a dark, yet very different, direction than her predecessors.

  • Joshua Atreides:
    Hodor’s Bastard,

This will be good simply the non reader Dany haters will silennced when they realize she’s not a Mary Sue at all. She has many obstacles to overcome despite being blessed with dragons. I also wonder if Jorah will be exiled in the season 4 finale?

and with that, a possible role for the widow of the waterfront ?

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I’ve held that belief, ever since Danerys matured into the woman she became after Drogon. Her life experiences have offered insights that the arrogant ambitions of her ancestors would never have counted as wise. She is her own, and the blood of the dragon. I wish maester Aemon were alive to lay some little known facts , on the reader.

After Varys’ last encounter, in ADWD, I’ve thought much differently on the person that is Aegon. He, too has gone the distance to challenge himself with a different perspective. On the other hand, some genetic instincts are hard to shake off. The author is pondering on some fine detail to use as a trip wire, so all we can do is speculate until a hard copy is produced.

  • Hey folks – something is up it appears. Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams are tweeting about coming to America next week and meeting at a “party”. Could this be for some new trailer filming or a premiere announcement on the 12th as speculated? omens are looking good.

  • Joshua Atreides,

the widow…… the whore of Volantis….. really has to exude a wizened quality, but originate from some downtrodden class of people. Would Gypsy be a
possible description ? A very fantasy derived description, of course.

  • Patchy Face,

Not really needed. Danerys’ story has been demonstrated onscreen, and I haven’t given any particulars with Varys or the other vaguely described person. Always appreciate the reminder, though. *>*

edit… re-read 2x and caught the slip about A. I hope the mods can fix that.

  • WildSeed,

Bad WS, bad! Shame. Go stand in the corner for 20 minutes, now!

Only you would bring up an esoteric character like Vogarro’s whore. :)

  • WildSeed,

idk while Varys has tried to make Aegon be humble by putting him on a sail boat, he comes off as a very stereotypical Targaeryn, proud, arrogant, hot-tempered, reckless, ignorant. Ever since Tyrion snarled at him in that game of cyvasse and “woke the dragon”, he then shows his dragon in both of JonCon’s chapters. I really hope he doesn’t succeed… well maybe a little cos war elephants

  • House Mormont,

Am I the only one who hoped that Kevan would make Tywin proud by putting right all of Cersei’s foolish blunders and bring about this new great Lannister dynasty teased at in season 1? Yes the winter would’ve swallowed them all eventually, but I can’t see how this Mummer’s dragon could save them, not without “actual” dragons.

Hah! Kevan was too good for the chaos GRRM has in mind for the realm! With Varys in the mix, I feel the 3rd Blackfyre rebellion is well on its way to fruition! But the snow will fall, the snow will fall…

  • Patchy Face,

I hope that’s the case if this “party” is true.

A trailer has been long overdue if measured on the same timelines as previous seasons.

And that party/trailer would be just what this cummunity needs to cheer us all up.

  • Patchy Face,

It would also kind of make sense if HBO decides to make the first GoT trailer a big event.

Considering there is no doubt that GoT is HBO’s flagship program it would be cool to have a 30min party/special with the end being the new GoT trailer.

I hope that’s what HBO is doing this year and that would explain the huge wait for a trailer besides us just thinking its because of True Detective.

  • Greenjones:
    Hodor’s Bastard,

Yes, reading Kent’s interview it still makes sense that this is the exact scene from the books. Dragons out of control can be as innocuous as no longer under Dany’s complete control as they have been.

  • Hodor’s Bastard: Over on Westeros, they’ve been talking about this D&E (Dunk & Egg) collection for about a year.

They are set about 100 years before ASOAIF (or that’s what it says in the book, but it’s really about 90 years before), not 150. Egg is Maester Aemon’s younger brother, and Aemon was a boy during Dunk & Egg. And another familiar character from ASOAIF was a child during The Mystery Knight. Walder Frey, the annoying 4-year old Frey heir with a high-pitched laugh that drove Dunk crazy.

  • Arthur,

It may indicate that they have been slaving away on post-production to deliver a quality teaser trailer instead of just a mere teaser with CGI imagery and a voiceover.

  • Hodor’s Bastard:
    Carne,

Nothing better than one hot dragon MILF surrounded by 18 dickless men!

Anyone else notice in Kranzys’s dialogue in S3, he just said “we cut their balls off”, nothing about the piece o’ pork?

Wonder if that was just the line or they’ve actually changed the show version of the Unsullied from being fully emasculated? Can’t see why they’d do that.

  • Cary Harkonnen,

Especially with that last chapter concerning Drogon and Danerys. Still
pondering to myself, what GRRM has in store for Tyrion’s relationship to the dragons, in upcoming chapters. Possibly a red herring, though.

No detail is ever missed at WiC. I dare you to ask Worm if he still has either root or stem. 8,000 UnSullied and we have yet to see one take a leak. Hmmmm…

  • Joshua Atreides:
    WildSeed,

ah but this actress has played creepy older ladies before…Miss Havisham, Miss Castaway?

Dunno, I remain in question for the best actress for the role. IMO, the late Anne Bancroft gave the best performance as Miss Havisham, with maybe a runner up status to Charlotte Rampling. I may be limiting my imagination, but I don’t see Gillian Anderson as a strong contender for Miss H, nor the widow . She’s just too classy.

I didn’t get the ref for Miss Castaway…… you talking’ the late MJ ? ( :

  • Arthur,

If last January 2013 were any indication, I’d say we’re in store for some momentous headlines by February 2014. I still have the 3/4 page add from the New York Times.

  • Got an autoplay video ad loading up on the site. You gonna fix that, or is that just business as usual on the new improved WiC?

  • Valyrian Plastic,

definitely, I love(d) Kevan! Ever since early aFfC when Cersei expects him to follow her like he did with Tywin, and he slaaaaams her dreams. Kevan is the man.

    WildSeed,

Have you read a certain set of tWoW chapter notes? It hints a little

  • Leather gloves? The mountain is supposed to have metal gauntlets, with which he does very specific things at a very specific moment. Boo to the lack of full plate also. And while I’m going, where the hell is the barding in this show? Horses running around without so much as a champron! Poor horsies :'(

  • House Mormont,

No, I haven’t. Readings excerpts will only add to my misery of waiting for more to read. I forego that type of torture. I’m tolerating the wait for a full meal of a hefty book in hand. Thanks for the consideration, though. *>*

  • House Mormont,

You’re very right about that, but he did get to experience what some might describe as a life learning experience. The flip side of that, however, is that Viserys used similar humbling lessons as a means to exact revenge, rather than appreciate anything of life and mankind. The differences may be attributed to their mentors or lack thereof .At least, this may be true in Aegon’s case

  • Dragon Punch:

He can wank with leather gloves, he doesn’t need metal gauntlets :p Don’t you worry :p

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

She’s an intriguing character, with many historical perspectives given to make. Not unlike the Green Grace . I would be disappointed if they were eliminated, but I respect the need to adapt the story.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Wish I could have both, then add Donal Noye, Jaime’s aunt, and a few unnamed faces from Flea Bottom ( :

Please forward a note to the production, to write a better script for Quaithe !

Unrelated,but…….. in the US, a North Carolina politician wrote his resignation letter in Klingon. Clearly wasting his time at a desk job, this guy needs to be on Game of Thrones ( :

    Done.
No support for apostrophes in aliases? You forced me to use the French version of my alias. Now I have 4 different aliases on 4 different GoT/ASoI&F sites. :)

  • I have a feeling that the adorable Trixiebelle Harrowell will play his ill fated daughter! She was dressed in similar duds to his own in a picture that I think was released a long time ago. Poor girl…

    Arthur,

  • Did anyone read the “author bio” of the guy who wrote that blurb on Fansided? All sports – none of it jousting or melee. I am disappoint. Hopefully they will give WinterPhil and co competent minions.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Maybe in a future season we’ll see an Unsullied take his pants off and squat (I guess) to take a leak. Just to REALLY freak everyone out. Or give Theon another full frontal scene. Or Varys. (Or not).

I remember when I was about 12 or 13 there was a movie on with the central character an imperial court eunuch in China (where they did cut off everything root-and-stem entirely) set not long before the last emperor… So early 20th century. There was a scene where an American tourist offered him $1 to show him what was in his pants. I don’t think he did, but scene where the guy made the offer traumatised me a bit.

  • Chickenduck:

When I read this at first I had unsullied=nonreader in mind. Was confused for a bit there

Btw, offtopic: am I the only one for whom wic’s mobile layout had been lagging terribly lately?

  • There suddenly seems to be a noticeable increase in tweets coming from HBO about GoT. I have a feeling that Winter is Coming.

  • TheBerylfly: When I read this at first I had unsullied=nonreader in mind. Was confused for a bit there

Sorry, I’m very proud to be Sullied…and intact. Just thought the Dany picture, in context, was quite funny. On the left side of the pic, one unfortunate UnSullied seems to be buried up to his neck in the sand while another seems to be heaving his guts out. Funny picture.

  • Patchy Face:

Visualize it, focus on it, assemble it in your head…imagine yourself watching it…again, again, again….together, all of us….focus, focus, focus….you will start to feel its presence, it is very near now…open your mind, let it come to you….feel it, feel it….feel the joy that it will bring, let the emotion of its arrival spread through your body….give into it…you are one with it. Soon, my son, soon.

  • Chickenduck,

My God…there’s an anecdote one doesn’t normally hear at parties. I hope it was a joke, and I hope you are ok with paying cash for purchases these days. Geez, did it have to be an American tourist in your anecdote though?

Even GRRM doesn’t bother to be more descriptive regarding the daily utilitarian nether duties of the UnSullied. Poor Theon/Reek! In his withered and compromised state of existence, I don’t think he will be with us much longer. GRRM seems to want to destroy him slowly. He may have a final task to perform though…

  • TheBerylfly: I am more concerned with Dany still wearing that godawful outfit

Hey, it could be much worse. It might have been like that dress Margaery wore in season 2 that made her look like a tortoise, and then everyone else started copying (even Cersei the former trendsetter). I guess there aren’t many opportunities to change clothes between Yunkai and Meereen. Just you wait, by the end of season 4 she’ll have adopted the look that all the nobles will want to attain.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Although the most common “dress” Dany wore when she treated with other nobles and dignitaries was one that hung from her left shoulder and fell diagonally across her body, exposing her right breast. As a purist, I am offended that dress wasn’t used for every Dany scene. :)

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I have a feeling that the Qartheen cut dresses would be too distracting Emilia’s performance. Would “Dracarys” have the same dramatic weight to it if one of her boobs was hanging out? In the real world there’s nothing graceful about it at all, if anything such slips are frowned upon, the result of drunken demeanour.

The other issue would be in editing. Sometimes a shot is flipped to add a bit of variety to the angles, but they’d have no chances to do this if she was half exposed all the time.

Think back to a Roman banquet for example; if you needed a piss, you’d just go in a jug where you sat while continuing to make small talk & stuffing your face with grapes, would you do that now? No, because standards change significantly overtime. The unsullied would be as at a loss to these women’s dress sense as a medieval peasant would be today with hot running water.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Hah! I needed that on this dreary Sunday morn. However, I’ve regretfully been to some parties in NYC that would challenge those assertions regarding wardrobe functions and informal bowel release displays!

On a related note, I would enjoy viewing the world through GRRM’s eyes though (a la Being John Malkovich).

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Yeah that would have been distracting and detrimental to the show. It was a smart move to excise the Quartheen dresses. Some people wouldn’t mind of course but it’s not about being prude. Its about framing a shot to impact the moment in the story. For instance I loved American Hustle. The writing, the acting and the direction. But it will always be in the back of my mind as the Amy Adams sideboob movie.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

On that note, I searched for a picture of the Qartheen look on AWOI&F.

    http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Daenerys_by_carrie_best.jpg

So, do you still think it would be worth it just to be book-loyal? All I see is a bit of harmless titillation. Still I’d have picked the look over that golden breastplate she wore in season 2. That and the aforementioned tortoise dress are the only 2 times I think the otherwise-outstanding costume department’s misjudged the fashion. Different, but not always in a good way.

Seriously, whenever Margaery was on-screen in that boxy, neck-less monstrosity it made me genuinely angry, but I wanted to be English about it, so I repressed the thought.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Hey, I got the dress description correct from memory alone! It must have made an impact on me. You are correct (and please don’t misinterpret my attempt at humor as an argument to your well-stated points) there would be a nonsensical distraction at key dramatic moments in Dany’s storyline if she chose to wear book style clothing.

    :)

  • Patchy Face:
    Hodor’s Bastard,
Oh Bastard – You know me so well…

I’m headed to the neighborhood seance later this afternoon where we will attempt to reach out to Drogo to divulge what HBO has in store for us in the next week. The spirit of S4 is among us, comforting us, pulling us in….time is nigh, my friend!

    Wanna join us?

Edit: It is not a seance, but a football game. Not quite the same. Kickoff looms!

  • I suppose if we were to talk about the Mountain’s look, the one major element of his outfit left out since season 1 was the stone-fist on his helm. The lack of Clegane hounds on yellow is also a little annoying, but maybe he’ll be given a shield to make up for it. Those 3 dogs are the main reason Gregor could grow up to be a knight, and all the time he’s fighting he’ll be surrounded by Lannister-Baratheon and Martell banners.

With all those beautiful sigils from the Royce runes to the Mormont bear and pines (even a Targaryen banner for some bizarre reason) at the Hand’s Tourney, there’s not been such a colourful display in the show since. They need to find the right shades and fast, starting with a nice deep purple tinge for Joffrey’s wedding reception :).

  • Hodor’s Bastard: Visualize it, focus on it, assemble it in your head…imagine yourself watching it…again, again, again….together, all of us….focus, focus, focus….you will start to feel its presence, it is very near now…open your mind, let it come to you….feel it, feel it….feel the joy that it will bring, let the emotion of its arrival spread through your body….give into it…you are one with it. :'(
    I want it now!

I just went to IGN to check their review on Vikings (I began to watch it today, and liked the first episode BTW) and I could resist a sudden urge to go to see the GoT reviews, which led me (of course) to the comment sections. Seeing all the on-season talks and conversations reminded me just how fun and awesome those times were. It also reminded me of FaB’s twitter recap, and how it was the second most awesome part of the week in the on-season. I wants it. I really really wants it. HBO, CAN I HAZ TRAILER?!

    /Brain spasm over

  • jentario,

    Dude!

Congrats on finally giving in and watching Vikings. I personally feel its the first major spinoff of GoT.

The show is great and you can definitely see GoT elements in it.

Just wait until you get to episode 4, it’s a slow burner until then but once they go on their first real raid, I was hooked!

It’s a good show, I’m totally straight but I also have a huge mancrush on Ragnar, something about that actors swag…

Season 2 of Vikings starts in Feb. Last year watching new GoT episodes followed by a new Vikings episode was the best 2 hours of television I’ve ever experienced!

Now you can do that too! =]

  • im sorry im on this thread but i need to say this now.. euron greyjoy has been casted
.. someone answer me so i can tell them details

  • idk know the actors name but u can see him in the last episode of the 3rd season when yara is gathering men on pyke

  • nicholas:
idk know the actors name but u can see him in the last episode of the 3rd season when yara is gathering men on pyke

Yeah, we were debating that scene a while back. It’s possible it could be Crow’s Eye but he is not one to consider Yara/Asha as a threat or an interest. Euron is a Greyjoy commander and would be recognized easily by others. Personally, I think that dude was a faceless man on his way to meet Balon. Was it an easter egg for S4, though? Who knows?

  • I think I just saw a White Walker outside my window. This blows. I’m moving to Dorne or Essos or wherever the fuck it is warm.

  • OT: HBO will air the first season of GOT on Saturday 11. So I think that we’ll definitely get something next week-end (hopefully a small teaser or a BTS.. and at least a release date).

I might be completely off though.. but I want to believe.

  • nicholas,

    What now?
EDIT: Interesting, I got it now. I don’t think that’s Euron, though. He can’t be the only Iron a Islander with a faulty eye, and this would be a very awkward and unnecessary way to cast one of the bigger characters of season 5.

  • Patchy Face,

Are you equating the Broncos with the Mountain’s armies? Hah, I see what you did there! I root for the Broncos from afar, but I was born and raised in the FrostFangs (near Boulder, CO) and I am more wildling in nature. I generally follow a different manner of football though (Barca!).

  • Tyrion Pimpslap:
I think I just saw a White Walker outside my window. This blows. I’m moving to Dorne or Essos or wherever the fuck it is warm.

This is just for you, TP. The Stones said it well.
Imagine Sam and Gilly huddled together north of the wall, or yourself alone with Val at Craster’s Keep.

    You’re welcome.

Haha… Like I said, it was in a movie, not real life. Why it was an American tourist? No idea, you’d have to ask the screenwriters.

  • Tyrion Pimpslap:

    Tyrion Pimpslap,

Come to Florida – there’s always room for one more. it was 81F/27C today and sunny –

  • they would not show a close up of just some dudes face that coincidentally looks like it could be euron…long black hair, messed up right eye.(just because he doesnt have a patch on it does not mean anything). its euron and im sticking with it until im proven wrong by the show.. i understand u guys being very skeptical. i have no hard evidence. but i just wanted other people to know because i honestly believe thats him.

  • summer_stark,

Really! How can he be smiling?!
A funny thing I remember about Colin Stevens was that he was obviously pushing for “tough guy” roles, so most of his pictures featured him wearing a terrifying scowl.
    Hafthor does look great though.
One complaint I had about Ser Gregor in Season One was that, even after they went through all the trouble of finding a monster like Colin, they didn’t really do much to visually play up how huge he was. He could have had a little chat with Ned. And he SHOULD have had his little chat with Sansa. And next to Rory, he didn’t look that enormous of course. The fact that the impression wasn’t that vivid took away some of the weight of later scenes when Ned and Baelysh talk about a huge guy wreaking havoc in the Riverlands. We all should have jumped up screaming “of COURSE it was Gregor Clegane!” but it wasn’t that obvious at the time.
Here’s hoping more is done to emphasize his great size this time around. Especially since Hafthor isn’t QUITE that big. He could use a little movie magic help.

  • Chris,

“Conan” Stevens is 4 inches taller than Thor, as does Ian “Mountain Mk.2” Whyte at 7″1′ each. Sandor talked to Sansa about his disfigurement in the books, not Petyr or Gregor, and Rory’s 6 and a half feet himself, of course he won’t look like much of a threat to The Mountain. But next to Tyrion and Ellaria, looking on as the latter’s paramour prince fights this great tower of mail and muscle, no one will even notice they’re completely different performers.

Sorry to be a total pedant back there.

  • Hodor’s Bastard: Hah! As I mentioned before (in another thread), the Mountain does not smile, he is full of hate and sociopathic tendencies. And one never would carry a sharp broad sword in that manner! I smell a mummery!

You do realize this is behind the scenes footage, right? ;)
