The Game of Thrones season 4 trailer is here!

After months of waiting and a weekend full of teases, the first trailer for Game of Thrones season 4 is here!

Too much awesome to take in all at once? We’re screencapping the trailer over on our Tumblr.

Winter Is Coming: What can I say? This show is amazing and this trailer doles out that amazingness in bite-sized chunks. Jaime, Stannis, Arya, Tyrion, Bran! THE RED VIPER! The upcoming season has the potential to be the best season yet. And I know we say that every season, but it’s true. (And this might be the last time I can say that with confidence.) Bring on season 4!

  • WA;AAHHAGHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! YEAH!!

    Stannis looking grim.
    Alliser Thorne!
    Melisandre!
    Theon! Yara!
    THE MOUNTAIN!

    OMFG

  • Best teaser evah!!!! Bring me some dornish red! Viper and Davos and Bran, oh my! Jaime you bad ass, can’t…type…anymore…

  • Damn those dragons! Also, on first watching I thought I saw a shot with Littlefinger and Varys in the throne room and was like ‘WHAT, but now I see it was Oberyn and Varys. That should be an interesting chat. I vaguely remember someone on this site in the comment saying that we were actually going to see Varys and Oberyn plotting about Dany, perhaps that’s what that scene was? Also, wow, Rast making an offering to the whitewalkers?! (I almost forgot to put that as spoiler text I was so excited!)

  • Liked The Dark-Dany and Alliser Thorne. Didn’t like the cheesy line by Jorah. We know… there’s good and bad in everyone. Sorry just got awful flashbacks of “you think morality is black and white?”

  • The trailer is awesome, but I cant help but think that that first cgi shot with the dragon’s shadow looks kinda… off.

  • the site is very slow right now.. it’s great how many people are here & excited about a “simple” trailer!

  • Dany’s line about living in her new world was the most awesome of the trailer. Her throne shot was awesome too.

  • What was that creepy zombie scene where the dude got cornered in the alley ways?

Oh yeah, and it looks awesome. Like way way way way way awesome

  • Theon doesn’t look like Reek, but he definitely looks different.

And is that Ramsay having sexytime with the girl who helped… er…. get Theon ready for him last season?

  • OMG! Meereen looked great! The hand! YarAsha in a long boat! The RV speaks! Gotta watch it again…and again…and again…

  • The scene with Tyrion in tears looks amazing. Dinklage will totally earn another emmy this year

  • So much awesomeness…. and some confusing stuff too…. would be interesting to see book changes and how it integrates with the storyline….. but overall IM PUMPED!!!

  • Clob,

I see is more of a trailer thing, being that King’s Landing and all. Probably an stablishing shot (god this show needs more of them) in the episode, without the dragon shadow. Joffrey’s wedding maybe?

  • Awesome trailer. Love Jaime’s new hair (and hand), can’t wait to see Oberyn! Would have like to see more of the dragons, though. And yessss, Alayne Stone!

  • So amazing!

I did feel that Dany’s comments about “living in my world” were a bit misleading, as they played that over pictures of the Lannisters. Seems as if they are implying to Unsullied that we’ll have a Targaryen vs. Lannister confrontation this season. But as we know, that’s a long, long way off.

  • I was going to either continue watching the golden globe or watch True Detective (wasn’t sure which) but my new plan is to watch the trailer 1,000 times and figure out what’s going on in every scene.

  • IT’S 2AM AND I CAN’T READ THE COMMENTS BUT OMGGGGGGGGGGGG THIS WAS MIND BLOWING I NEARLY CRIED, THE DORNISH DRAWL IS PERFECT DANY IS EVIL AND JAMIE IS HOTTTTYTT

  • That part with RV putting his hand over the candle was boss. The guy trapped in the alley was by graffiti that said “Kill the masters” (I think), and the Sansa shot was pretty cool!

  • My first thoughts after seeing this:

-What was that city with the shadow of dragons? I know its not Kings Landing but looks kinda similar!

-Theon still looks likes before! The torture hasnt changed his face a lot! Doesnt he change drastically in the books?

-Who are the two armies meeting at 0:25 ? Its hard to tell from the flags!

Overall I am mostly excited about the events in Kings Landing this season. 3 Months to go!!!

  • Dany, Jaime, Cersei, Tyrion that’s all I care about!!! OMG the trailer was epic. Also Dragons in the beginning.

  • Ok, having seen it a few more times:

    –Red Viper! NICE!
    –Littlefinger! In the Eyrie?
–What’s happening with that dude being surrounded on 3 sides in that narrow passage with 90 guys coming to kill him?
–Brief, BRIEF shot of Sandor Clegane at the end.
–Rast, UGH. And another damned baby.
–Ok, the Mountain looks ENORMOUS. No Ian Whyte issues this time.
–Jaime and Tywin! Jaime and Joffrey!
–Who is out there fighting in that grim landscape? Who the hell is on the pale horse?
–Yara going upriver somewhere, a real deviation, but I don’t care, it’s nice to know there are some surprises in store.
–HOW MANY DAMNED DAYS LEFT? :) :) :)

  • I have a feeling Aliser Thorne is going to take Donal Noyes place. I believe Noye was in the show somewhere but nobody will really know who he is I think.

  • “If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place”

Tyrion going after Ramsay’s title for ‘line of the year’ already I see!

    Also, HOLY CRAP DRAGONS!

  • Oberyn’s costume looks absolutely fantastic. I am rather disappointed by how similar Meereen looks to King’s Landing, though.

  • I am LOVING Pedro as the Red Viper!

He has an amazing look to him… I am attracted to him and I am a straight guy!!!

    This line!

“Tell your father I’m here and tell him the Lannister’s aren’t the only ones that pay their debt” – The Red Viper.

    Can someone say… BLOWBACK!

    I can’t freaking wait!

  • About f*cking time! The sword Jaime is holding looks gold, idk if that’s just the angle and the light but it should be black and red if anything. Maybe they changed it a bit?

  • Watcher:
    Turncloak,

No but she could easily send one over there as a message or something. The show isn’t copying the books verbatim…

Not happening. That was Mereen. Would be foolish for Dany to make that move

  • Lol, how much longer is it going to be until Bran’s actor grows so much that Hodor can’t even carry him?

  • AHAHAHA WHO AM I KIDDING I CAN’T SLEEP AFTER THIS

    one question

is the first line: “THE PEOPLE LOVE THEIR KING” Kevan Lannister?

  • THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME. All things aside, did anyone catch that scene of Rast sacrificing a baby…. what’s going on there?

  • Theon…really hope it was flashbacks, I know its hard to turn his hair white and extend it seeing as the show moves slower than the books its hard to see that Theon looks different after maybe what a month in-show timeline? still….man I would have loved book Reek :(

Anyways, it was awesome seeing Tyrion with that aftershave and his lines were epic. Best storyline this season, best ending ever written in any media……just awesome. That final justice line with him crying….AMAZING

Awesome seeing Alister Thorne as well, hes taking Donal Noye’s role I bet, though I hope different since it would be nice to have him next season

  • Watcher,

That would be the most significant deviation to the plot thus far by an order of magnitude if she did. The repercussions in Westeros of a dragon showing up on their doorstep would be enormous.

  • Very interesting things in this. I have no idea what they are doing with Yara and no idea what they are doing with Theon. But at least it will be interesting, I hope.

The opening shot of the dragon, I cannot make out if it is supposed to be King’s Landing, or Mereen. If it is KL. I am happy we will get our first historical flashback of the series.

  • I think the shot of the dragon flying over King’s Landing was created just for the trailer. That was definitely King’s Landing and the Red Keep (not Meereen) and that dragon was frickin’ huge. It was foreshadowing something that’ll probably happen several seasons from now.

  • Turncloak,

I don’t, it did look like King’s Landing. Assuming it’s not a trailer cheat, I’m guessing dream, followed by vision, followed by flashback in order of likeliness.

Oh, Bran maybe? Just occurred to me.

  • Joejoe,

Lol how out of touch are you. They have got a cart for Bran since like the end of S2.
The last time I checked Isaac’s already a bit taller than Kit.

  • Hi-Fi,

I assumed she is talking to Shireen. At least it looks like the same braid and color as her hair from last season.

  • Has anyone found a 1080p version yet? Would love to screencap some scenes and look at every pixel obsessively. You know, for science.

  • I’m no book purist and I definitely loved 100% of this trailer and cannot wait for April but a little distinction. At 1:19-1:20 running with Tormund is most definitely Styr (Yuri Kolokolnikov’s face for sure) who has ears. It would have been possibly extraneous spending on special effects and makeup to consistently remove the ears (i.e. Tyrion’s nose) so it’s a non-issue for me. Just an interesting observation.

  • Delta1212,

Doesn’t matter if the shadow was above Kings Landing or not because it will be irrelevant for the season. Either it was there to tease us or it was a dream by Dany/Bran

  • Brock,

Touche. Guess I wasn’t paying enough attention and / or forgot Bran scenes where they’re on the move. He’s usually just sitting down

  • I’m really liking True Detective! Antler women! Devil nets! Quite a good vibe. The mood reminds me of the Coens’ Blood Simple.

    Erath!

  • I thought the shot of the city with the shadow over it was Kings Landing for a second, and I was super confused, haha. Consider me well and truly teased, though. So much awesome to look forward to! Seems like there will be a lot of action this season.

  • Oh my god that was AMAZING!! How badass was that line from The Viper!

Also Im fairly sure that the opening line of the trailer was indeed Kevan Lannister so that should hopefully answer any doubts over him returning.

Off to watch it again a bunch more times before I get some sleep. Hype!

  • Loved it! Now I need to watch about 100 more times.

Margaery’s hairdo looks like Marge Simpson’s. Good to see Aliser Thorne and I never thought I would say that. The Red Viper looks and sounds amazing – my favorite minor character has arrived.

So happy to see Sansa in the snowy courtyard.

  • Didn’t see a couple people of notice in the trailer. Has Thoros of Myr, Berric Dondarrion, and Lysa Arryn been confirmed to be returning for this season? Just curious. I would love to see all three back for the coming season. Does anybody know?

  • The shadow over Kings Landing Its just a scene for the trailer I bet, or a dream, or vision something like that. Meant to excite us.

  • OK, Who is going to do it? Who is going to photoshop a pic of Joffrey standing in front of a sign that says “Mission accomplished”?

  • Well after watching it multiple times…

The Red Viper’s looks, wardrobes and speech really is everything I hoped for and his line.

“Tell your father I’m here and tell him the Lannister’s aren’t the only ones that pay their debts” – The Red Viper.

That line won the cake for me… Who else can march into King’s Landing and just threaten Tywin like that, openly and without fear.

Also as far as that dragon shadow, I agree it probably has nothing to do with the actual show and just put there to excite us.

The Dragon CGI is the hardest and takes the longest to finish, we will see cool Dragon stuff (Like we did with Drogon fishing) probably towards the end of March…

Lets just all hope they are bigger and meaner looking…

  • The most interesting thing in the trailer is the shot of the 2 armys.. Locke and Ramsay? Ramsay and Roose?

  • It’s VERY early to judge but everything seems in place. And Pedro really looks the part and has just the right attitude. Also ,do Emilia and Lena keep getting prettier and sexier every year or do i have issues?

  • Trailer was pretty good though. Curious to see how Dany’s arc will play out. Excited for the Kings Landing arc. Curious about Stannis arc. Have no clue whats going on with Yara/Asha. Hope we get a vast improvement in Theon’s material too. The Wall stuff should be great :]

  • Rhonaldo: “The people love their king” (c) Kevan?

definitely Kevan’s voice, I recognised it instantly

    1) Asha’s environment looks nothing like the North? That can’t be the Weeping Water?

    2) Is that shot of Theon from Season 2?

    3) The more I see of Meereen the more I can’t wait

    4) Emmy for Lena Headey

  • Ahhhhhhh!

Oberyn!! Can’t wait to see him in action. Sansa in the Vale! Jaime getting a valyrian steel sword, Or what i imagine was valyrian steel.
I wasn’t that excited for the coming season but after watching the trailer i am PUMPED! Can’t wait!!

  • I think the Kings Landing shot could possibly be part of a new intro for the series, though not sure why they would go away from the brilliant one they already have

  • Sword of the Morning,

We know Drogon goes missing for a long time. He could very well have flown as far as Westeros, and D&D are showing it instead of the Westerosi just ‘hearing rumours’ about Dragons. Long shot but considering how much the show has changed, a possibility.

  • Oh Gods I thought it was there..and it is! @ 1:27….Sansa in the Garden more later….

    The North Remembers!

  • That shot with the dragon shadow, when frozen, you can tell it is certainly KL. You can tell from the building modeling; that’s The Red Keep, without a doubt. My guess is a flashback, or dream (possibly). If it’s a flashback, it will be our first in the series. The closest we’ve had to a flashback was when Ned was watching Arya practice with Syrio and he just started imagining actual swords and we hear fair actual war sounds. It’ll be a season to watch! Also, people who are reading have til April to get through Dance O.o; bye bye following book-by-book.

  • First impressions :

Jaime and Cersei kissing briefly !

    Melissandre talking to Yara ?

    Moat Cailin ?

Tywin giving the Valyrian sword to Jaime !

    The Harpy in Meereen !

Snow castle seems to be in !

Bran diving into the weirwood ?

Arya and the Hound at the inn !

  • I always love how hilariously misleading the trailer can be. If you are unsullied you’d think Lannister v Dany was just around the corner. Characters they didn’t show Mance, Brienne, Loras, Bronn, Shae, Pod, QOT, Meera, Jojen, Sam, Mace- kind of amzing when you think about it.

  • The opening shot was KL: No pyramids, no harpy iconography, and it looks exactly like the red keep up on the hill that we’ve all come to know. Furthermore, Dany’s dragons are nowhere near big enough to cast a shadow of that size. The scene is obviously either a flashback or was just created for the trailer.

  • Wrath of the Gods,

Looks to me like it’s glowing from still being in the forging process. I doubt we’ll get the red and black from the books… Valyrian steel has been all but ignored thus far.

  • I like to think that is Ramsay and Locke, just because that would be an interesting conversation.

As for Donal Noye, here’s what I think will happen:
Alliser replaces Donal in telling Jon “the Wall is yours”
Grenn replaces Donal in fighting a giant and going out like a complete badass
    Then in season 5+
    Alliser takes Bowen Marsh’s role
    Locke takes Alliser’s role

  • OHMAHGOHDDD!!! What a friggin’ trailer that was! I’m totally hyped right now.

Red Viper looks and sounds badass. All the actions going on.

And what about those lines heh? “If you look for justice, you come to the wrong place” will be quoted and requoted forever and ever.

  • I agree Thorne is the new Noye. They need a known face to die and leave Jon in charge of the battle and Janos Slynt can adequately represent the anti Snow faction in the future. Some people will be pissed if they give Thorne a heroic death but I’m fine with it. .

  • The Red Viper looks amazing! I’m glad he actually looks like how he should with his features. BLACK HAIR, BROWN EYES, etc. HE’S SO HANDSOME!!!

  • House Mormont:
I spy a snapshot of Jaime and Cersei having either aggressive sex or an aggressive argument

If Game of Thrones has taught us anything, it’s that these characters can be doing both of these things at once.

  • Agreed with all those who believe Red Viper looks awesome. In terms of things we were all concerned about for Season 4, this was the biggest. He looks great. The new Mountain looks terrifying. Problems solved.

  • Who is Littlefinger saying “I want to know what side you’re on” to? I don’t know why it’d be either Sansa, Dontos or Lysa

    jbob,

Cersei says “you fight over him like beasts until you tear him apart, I WILL BURN OUR HOUSE TO THE GROUND BEFORE I LET THAT HAPPEN”

  • I wouldn’t worry about Theon and his lack of fucked-up-edness. IIRC Ramsay cleaned him up to trick the Ironborn at Moat Cailin.

  • Maester Blaster:
I agree Thorne is the new Noye. They need a known face to die and leave Jon in charge of the battle and Janos Slynt can adequately represent the anti Snow faction in the future. Some people will be pissed if they give Thorne a heroic death but I’m finewith it. .

Yep. Much of that was also addressed with his scene with Sam and Jon in Season 1, where he talks of being stuck out in the cold for months. Nuanced that character.

  • Did anyone else freeze frame on the white book? It’s hard to make out much from the Youtube version, but on HBO itself it led off with “Jamie Lannister — Squired for Barristan Selmy” as opposed to Lord Summer Crakehall and ended with “…known as the Kingslayer”. I couldn’t make out much else before the it fell off of the Tivo’s 30 minute buffer.

  • Meereen without pyramids ?Or was that dragon shadow flying over King’s Landing in a dream sequence?

  • I agree with the poster above who said that KL in the opening shot looks like a miniature from the opening credits. They wouldn’t use a shot like that in the show unless it was meant to be surreal, like one of Dany’s visions. But that wouldn’t really fit the story.

So it’s either just for the trailer or a new opening credits bit.

  • That is definitely the Red Keep with a Dragon flying over it. (One of Dany’s visions? IDK) I recommend pausing and taking a good look. The Red Keep has never looked better! Well done VFX team! I am dazzled by what I am looking at!

    The North Remembers!

  • Is it weird that my favorite moment was Bran reaching out to touch the tree? So excited about his storyline. Also, I get a kick out of Oberyn’s fight scene every single time. Great trailer.

  • Theon is in and he still looks like Theon! I suppose they dressed him to negotiate with the Ironborn and then Ramsay betrays them.

Also, Alayne Stone! And I bet Littlefinger is talking to her when he asks “are you with me?”

Drogon is surely flying over King’s Landing.

  • Enfield,

There’s still the fact that he’s supposed to look a lot more sickly. I was under the impression that cleaning him up just meant allowing him to bathe and wear clothing a human would wear.

  • From the screencap on the tumblr it definitely looks like Melisandre is with Yara. I’m relieved we can dispense with this nonsense about Yara taking the place of fArya. No indication in the trailer they’re doing anything with that plot. Maybe season 5?

  • kosh25012 minutes ago

Deanerys Targaryen’s dragons over the Red keep…
    enough said!! Can’t wait!

oh no the casual’s on Youtube think it’s happening, silly HBO

  • Sednan,

I agree and from who is standing in the back it looks like Jorah has yet to be banished by this scene which would be an alteration. Perhaps the kiss/proposal scene is moved to just after this when Dany has this big setback

  • They ruined everything!!! Stannis looked grim and did Jorah just call him evil. This is character assassination at its worst!!!!!!! I bet those sadists D&D are doing this just to fuck with Stannis fans. See how they like it when I decide to boycott the series. HBO are officially unsubscribed!

  • Excuse me for my fangirling but

OH MY GOD THE SPLIT SECOND OF SANSA IN THE SNOW!!

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

    THE SNOW CASTLE SCENE!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • AngryGoTFan:
THEY STOLE LORD BOLTONS LINE ABOUT PAYING DEBTS AND GAVE IT TO OBERYN!!!! BLATANT REVISIONISM!!!! #NOONEUNDERSTAAANDS

I like it better from Oberyn, TBH.

  • Sam,

There’s nothing cartoony about that shot. Look at the waves and other details. I bet it’s from a vision by Dany. We remember from Season 2 that they are doing the visions in a different way than in the books.

  • AngryGoTFan:
THEY STOLE LORD BOLTONS LINE ABOUT PAYING DEBTS AND GAVE IT TO OBERYN!!!! BLATANT REVISIONISM!!!! #NOONEUNDERSTAAANDS

    Oh no… you’re back. hahah

  • I’m pleased for a number of reasons already mentioned, but also that they got Chelsea Wolfe for the soundtrack.

  • Brock,

No Bran had to eat those weirwood seeds to connect with the trees. I was thinking the same thing though, that him touching the tree and the dragon over KL were related

  • From the trailer, by far, the Eyre scenario with snow is one of the most beautiful things I ever seen in GoT.

  • Brock,

    Brock,

If you haven’t read A Dance With Dragons, don’t read on,
but he has a really interesting storyline coming up which I think they may be moving into this season. He eventually has the ability to see through different weirwood trees.

  • When Jaime’s holding the sword… the armour over his upper arms look like scales, like the armour worn by the Tullys. A reference to his pact with Catelyn from season 2/3?

  • Ger: House Mormont,

Could also be to Nestor Royce.

Very true, or Lyn Corbray. Looks like it’s someone a lot taller than LF?

  • Virtus,

I have looked at it a few times now. To me the waves look frozen – in particular a white crash on the right side doesn’t move at all. Unless it’s supposed to be a rock outcropping or something? Nothing else in the shot is moving besides the shadow. I feel that compared to other shots of the Red Keep this one has an odd quality. But it’s still possible that you’re right about it being a vision.

  • I thought the same thing!

    sunspear:
“If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place”

Tyrion going after Ramsay’s title for ‘line of the year’ already I see!

    Also, HOLY CRAP DRAGONS!

  • Great trailer! I particularly loved Oberyn’s delivery of:

“Tell him the Lannisters aren’t the only ones who pay their debts”

Tyrion and Daenerys had fantastic lines too and I really like the look of Meereen.

  • Ger,

I think it’s Hot Pie’s cousin, Hot Cake- He was also sent to the Wall and successfully made it there.

    Seriously though, awesome trailer.

  • Hey, first time posting after being a long time lurker.
In the second to last scene of the trailer when Tyrion says “If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place”, do you think he’s talking to Oberyn about the RV wanting to get justice for what happened to Elia? Just wondering

  • The shot of a dragon shadow is over King’s Landing, you can see the Red Keep – but I think this is either purely for the trailer or, more probably, just a prophetic dream – the dragons don’t come to Westeros in this book (or currently, really).

I can’t tell who Melisandre is speaking to but my initial reaction was Shireen Baratheon.

TV-“Yara” has blonde hair, not brown hair (granted its dirty blonde).

Moreover, she’s correcting whoever it is that “there is only one hell!” (i.e. they must have cursed “seven hells!”). But Yara worships the Drowned God, so why would she believe in multiple hells? So more probably Shireen I guess. Or Selyse.

  • Between the awesomeness of Sherlock and now this, I don’t feel ashamed to admit I may have exploded in my pants.

Oathkeeper!!! I wasn’t sure the sword would even make it into the show but I am so happy to see it.

  • So since Dany’s story delves into the Sons of the Harpy this season, what episode do you think she’ll take Meereen? 4/5?

  • Who is that first voice at the beginning? “The people love their king.”

    I know some believe it’s Ian Gelder’s Kevan, but I’m not convinced – it’s a lower-sounding voice.

To me, it sounds like Ian Beattie’s Meryn Trant.

Listen to this and that first voice again:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nleCR9XOBNM

  • I must admit that I chuckled a bit when I saw Yara in the rowboat. Remembering her last line in S3…”I’m going to take the fastest ship we have and save my brother!”

Yara & Mel though?….hmmm…Mel will let her go, with a mission in mind.

  • That was definitely King’s Landing at the beginning. It will either be a snippet for the trailer only or a dream/ vision. The shadow is enormous, even if Dany was anywhere near Westeros, there’s no way the dragons would be at that size yet. Seems like Balerion the Dread kind of scale…

  • Ger,

It’s that actor Brennock O’Connor who was cast this summer. He’s also shown earlier in the trailer running away from what looks to be a wildling raid. He’s alongside Jon I guess because he found refuge at the Wall perhaps?

Near the end of filming in November, him, the girl who plays Shireen and Art “Rickon” Parkinson were hanging out in Belfast and tweeting about it. Make of that what you will.

  • House Mormont,

She’ll probably conquer Meereen early on the season, because they still have Jorah’s betrayal’s storyline to stretch the ASoS material a little bit more. Jorah is gone in the scene that she’s sitting on the throne, but he’s in Meereen in other scenes, so I think it’ll go like this:
    – episodes 1 to 3: conquer of Meereen
    – episodes 4 to 6, Jorah’s betrayal
    – episodes 7 to 10, introduction to ADwD’s storyline.
Not to mention that we probably won’t see Dany at all for 2 or 3 episodes, as usual.

  • Greenjones,

You’re right, I see him running away from the wildlings in that other shot. Still, given the show has a tendency to fuse characters (and the ASoS and ADwD storylines at The Wall have LOTS of new characters) it’s not unlikely that he could end up becoming Jon’s ward, although I think it’s more likely that he’s some fugitive from Mole’s Town who warns them about the incoming assault on Castle Black.

  • Don’t think this has been suggested but since we haven’t seen Joseph Gatt yet, how about him playing Rhaegar in a flashback. Said scenes would bring some gravity to the RV’s revenge agenda in the trial by combat. Just a thought.

  • One minor quibble/question.

Why is the Red Viper wearing yellow?

I suppose it could just be in one scene and granted, he does have Martell suns on it, but still….

  • I love the trailer, but I got to say that Tyrion stole the show once again. “” If you have come here for justice you have come to the wrong place. ” Enough said.

Now it’s Jon’s moment to shine!!!

    And yes….The North Remembers!

  • Dany’s hall in Meereen looks almost exactly how I pictured it while reading :D with a little more sun coming in though…

  • KG,

Eh, it seems to match the hair color of Tyrion and Cersei (for better or worse) and seems at least somewhat blonder than last season (which makes sense given how filthy Jaime was then).

  • Ok, I have to go. But whoever works out who Littlefinger is talking to will get a biscuit from me.

  • 0:52 – Right behind YarAsha, could that be Tristifier Botley or Qarl the Maid?

Really interested in her/Theon/Ramsay storylines the most honestly. It’s the least predictable for bookreaders.

    Thoughts:
-0:28 Meereeneese slaves rounding up 1 out of 163 Great Masters to be impaled
-0:31 Dany’s court is looking scarce with ZERO Meereeneese nobility….Jorah is still there for the goatherder’s complaint?
-0:55 Cersei has several reasons to cry, but which is it here?
    -1:00 I think it’s Littlefinger and Lysa.
-1:14 Cersei is talking about Tommen. TWOW/ADOS foreshadowing?

edit: just noticed 1:07 Oberyn passing his hand through the candle flame

  • Pedro sounds and looks perfect for the Red Viper! Seeing Jon looking morose in one of the screen captures instantly reminds me of thoughts of Rhaegar. So pumped!

  • I thought it was okay, of course as a huge GoT fan I loved seeing all this new footage but I always try and watch through the eyes of someone who has never seen this show because I know this will be trending on the front page of youtube. If I never saw GoT I don’t know if this would convince me I needed to. IMO they should have waited until they had more of the post production special effects done so we could have had some good glimpses of the dragons, giants, and battle at the Wall.

  • Loving the trailer. Definitely has hyped me back up for the return of the show. Now all we need is some key-art for season 4!!!

  • we need Kevan to become an important character this season… especially later on when Varys kills him and Pycelle and reveals himself to be working for the Targyrians

  • Spet,

We aren’t getting any Coldhands are we … ?

Sadly, I don’t think so. Everyone keeps talking about Lady Stoneheart, I don’t even care if they cut her out of the show, I just want to see Coldhands.

  • Too flabbergasted for words, finally the wait is nearly over……what I liked, everything!

    1. Could Dany be warged into Drogon, that opening shot appears to be from a dragons eye point.
    2. Sons of the Harpy, D&D moving fast and furious with the next two books.
    3. Rast crying while sacrificing the baby to the WW.
    4. Oathkeeper!
    5. Sibling sex, Cersei number four on my list and Mr. mansex himself.
    6. Mel and Shireen.
    7. Stannis! Oh! and the Onion Knight.
    8. Alayne and the snowcastle, sniff!
    9. Aliser Throne rallying the boys of the NW.
    10. RV! Oberyn looks awesome, perfect, and what about that Spanish, err Dornish accent. (Good to know D&D are going this route, cannot wait for a hot Latin actress in a certain role, so who’s it gonna be?)
    11. Yara/Asha on her commando mission.
    12. The shot on the rocky beach with the flames snapping into the night from the stiff winds is breathtaking. So who is the sexy Red Witch having for a smores tonight. Carice van Houten is numero uno on my list, that’s Dornish for number one.
    13. Charlotte Hope has found a way to satisfy Reek while pleasuring herself. Ms. Hope is definitely on my top 5 list, yeow!
    14. Now we know how the Mountain warms up before a big fight, he butchers innocents.
    15. Arya and the Hound at the Crossroads, can’t wait.
    16. Dany and Missandei, the two most beautiful women across the Narrow Sea, more, more, more. Ms. two and three on my list, they are interchangeable.
    17. Still bummed no Ser Barristan fight scene, bad, bad D&D!
    18. Oh, and Jon Snow looking commanding, and kicking mutineer ass.
    19. Bran in the Haunted Forest, epic!
    20. My question is what two armies are meeting in that shot?

Now I have to go back and watch for the like 5th time and more.

  • tysnow,

Regarding the two armies, I’m certain the one on the left is Ramsay’s. One of his men is holding a Bolton banner, and the person walking forward definitely fits Iwan’s profile.

As to the army on the left, I think they’re holding a Bolton banner as well, but it’s harder to tell. I’ve seen people saying that it’s Locke, but I don’t see why Locke and Ramsay would need to meet with armies, considering they’re on the same side (and I think they would be bros tbh). I thought perhaps Yara, but the banner behind does look suspiciously Bolton-ish, unless it’s for an ironborn house I’m not familiar with.

EDIT: Re-watching it, those on the right are definitely Bolton banners. So it’s either Locke or Roose.

  • i will prob watch this 100 times to analyze everything. can someone please hurry and screencap everything in detail so we can analyze some more? hehe thanks

  • am i the only one that was a little disapointed? no drama or edge to it. I guess thats bc all the good guys are gone (sad face)

  • One thing that bothers me is that often times HBO’s trailers uploaded to YouTube are NOT 720p. Most 720p videos are much better quality. Why is this continually an issue? And why not 1080p?

Unfortunately, the shot in the Vine showing the royal tent overseeing the Red Viper vs. the Mountain duel was not included in the trailer. So, the man sitting in between Tywin and Jaime remains a mystery. Though, I still believe it to be Kevan.

The first line of the trailer is definitely not Kevan.

Although it’s been hinted that he won’t return, I may have spotted Lancel in this shot. At first I thought it might be a servant, but from this shot and behind the scenes photos, we can see that all the servants at the wedding are wearing a red coat. This person has a unique costume. It may not be Lancel, but the character certainly has his profile.

I think the shot of Tywin at 0:36, lit by fire, may be when Tyrion confronts him. Tywin is looking particularly smug and defiant in that shot. I can’t think of too many scenes where we’d visit Tywin at night in his chambers, except, “Wherever whores go.”

  • I don’t doubt the possibility we’ll see/hear of the Sons of the Harpy, but I honestly did not see them in this trailer.

  • I know others have mentioned the opening shot of a dragon over KL possibly being a flashback of some kind, but what if it is a flash forward to events that haven’t even transpired in the books? We do see Bran reaching up to the Weirwood…

  • Greg,

It’s Roose with his heavy fur cloak, the banners flying over the army to the right are Flayed Men and have the unmistakable blue/red colours of the Bolton heraldry in the show. I’m guessing it’s father and son meeting each other around Moat Cailin after Theon does his thing with the white flag (same sort of grim environment).

  • KG:
Rygar, I’m with you on that. They aren’t even trying anymore.

Hey. Give him a break. I’m a blond but my hair looks brown in dark light. It’s what happens when true blonds get older.

  • Family, Duty, Hodor,

He’s talking to Lysa. The set is obviously the Eryie with the candles and curtains and pale stones. The quote also makes sense context-wise for the “Only Cat” scene because Lysa starts spouting about conspiring against Jon Arryn and Petyr is trying to get her to shut up because Sansa and Marillion are present. Before he pushes her, that is.

  • Well, is a solid trailer, but what’s the deal with Jaime’s armour? it looks so cheap compared to the one he used in Season 1. Maybe is a reference to the golden armour of the books? will he change it for the traditional armour of the KG later?

    Ger,

I would love to see all the other brothers of the NW, but I think is just a random recruit.

    James,

    Same here.

  • NEVER HAS A TRAILER BEEN SO GOOD EVER.

Love how they’re setting Joffrey up as the Big Bad he was always meant to be.
    Love sexy Oberyn.
    Love hardcore Dany.
    Love Jorah’s voice.
Love the return of Alliser Thorne.

Fuck it all, just send me to sleep until April. Too fucking hot here in Australia anyway.

  • The Red Viper won this trailer. I’m getting season 2 vibes from Dany. Reek looks almost hale compared to the Gollum like character I imagined. A little too much Meereen for my tastes. When is Jorah going to get his ass banished?

  • ok so it looks like there is definitely some book 4-5 stuff. I have no idea what’s going on with that guy getting getting swarmed. Really hope that’s not Mel and Yara, becasue that would be a MASSIVE book change. (Though unless casting has been kept very secret, the Iron Islands stuff isn’t happening this season)

  • The Dragon-shadow is probably made for the trailer. POSSIBLY a dream. The idea of a Dragon actually sighted in the skies above KL (a city of 1/2 to 1 million people in broad daylight) would make the entire continent immediately drop bricks in their collective pants, and essentially change the entire story from this season on. Not a good idea.

As to the size of the Dragons Drogon is big enough for Dany to RIDE him towards the end of aDwD so don’t assume anything. They got visibly bigger every time we have seen them thus far!

  • HOLY SHIT! This was great! Love Oberyn’s accent, love the Meereen sets (the throne room looks EXACTLY like I imagined it, which is weird as fuck), love Yara on a boat and not a ship (maybe she is taking a shortcut through a river instead of traveling around Westeros in such a short time? Some great stuff in there, can’t wait.

  • Tyrion’s line at the end of the trailer “If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place” immediately preceding the cavalry charge of Stannis (the character most associated with the concept of “justice”) against the Wildlings at the Wall (far north of and away from the main conflict zones of the War of the Five Kings and the Iron Throne) is deliciously symbolic.

  • The RV might not be at all like I pictured him but the fight with the mountain looks AWESOME. Also wonder if they are going to cut the Sand Snakes, becasue Oberyn looks too young to have children in the 20s

  • Phil,

It wouldn’t be a massive book change. She get’s captured by Stannis anyway, all we would be really missing out on is her short occupation of Deepwood Motte and the skirmish where she is captured. The Kingsmoot can happen without her. It’s a bit of effective streamlining

  • I’m kinda worried the series will have its own Meereenese Knot in season 5. I assume Dany riding Drogon will be season 5, episode 9. Tyrion’s journey to her will take the entire season. If Dany already has the goat herder and Sons of the Harpy problems at the end of season 4, what’s she going to do for the bulk of season 5? Her storyline is going to drag.

  • That looks like Yara with Mel to me. If that’s the case are they cutting the iron islands out. With Dany that far in her story And if The Mannis has Yara I don’t know how much time we will have to introduce any of the uncles and get them to Mereen. not sure who LF is talking to my guess is Sansa, Lady Waynwood or Royce. Who’s Tyripn talking to about justice? Viper or Jamie me thinks . Love Jorahs line about good and evil. Along with Ramsey’s quote last year “if you think this has a happy ending you haven’t been paying attention” it basically describes the story. Super pumped. Oh and that has to be KL there’s no pyramids so it can’t be Mereen. No flashbacks on the show so it has to be Dany or Bran. Was Joffrey in the kings guards tower. And I love the writing on the wall during the attack. “Kill the masters”

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t we hear that there would be a flashback episode that discussed “Robert’s Rebellion”? Maybe they go even farther back in that episode to talk about the Targaryen’s regin and that’s when the dragon is over King’s Landing?

  • Phil:
The RV might not be at all like I pictured him but the fight with the mountain looks AWESOME.Also wonder if they are going to cut the Sand Snakes, becasue Oberyn looks too young to have children in the 20s

Not if he started fathering kids in his teens. There people who are grandparents by their early 30’s.

  • Whew! Ok, watched it frame by frame. LOVE IT! Some impressions:

As a Sullied, I cannot wait to see the YarAsha storyline. I have faith that D&D & BCog have come up with something that will develop the character without bogging the audience down in the junior intrigues of the Iron Islands as the books did.

Am intrigued by the possibility of some weirwood communications pre-caves from Bran. Since they did not do Jaimie’s dream when he rested his head on the weirwood stump, the Unsullied need to learn that simply touching a tree can bring on the sight. And the opening sequence makes no sense unless it is simply to tie S3 to S4 for the trailer, or it is from a vision (future or past–time is a wheel, after all.).

Thanks to all here for pointing out how all the events of the Wall can still be salvaged by the condensing and slight variation of characters’ arcs. I am optimistic for the story at the Wall to get back on track this year. Don’t want to start any debates (or get jumped on for asking), but does anyone else think that the baby Rast places in the snow could be saved by Jon and co and take the place of Mance’s? I hope not. I am a Val fan.

Personally think that is Mel talking to Selyse.

End could be Tyrion talking to Brienne.

    Sansa in the snowy courtyard!

    Arya reunited with Needle!

    Jaimie and Cersei getting busy!

The look of Meereen–the throne room just the way I pictured it, and the beauty and comfort that lures Dany into staying too long. Great!

The look of the battlefield and the barren loneliness and despair of Theon/Reek’s story line perfectly captured.

And finally, and most importantly, the RV in all his glory, looking and sounding GREAT! Unbowed! Unbent! Unbroken! House Martell FTW!

Going to bed. I’m spent. Until tomorrow peeps!

  • Not sure if mentioned yet but pause the trailer at 1:21-22. Pretty sure that is Locke behind Allister Thorne.

  • A White Book, a golden hand and a Red Viper! A possible Alayne Stone sighting, an Oathkeeper revealed, a dragon where one should not yet be, and someone (no one) finds a Needle! And one scene that will break a Queen’s heart.
I’m in a happy place despite there being three months yet to go.
    The North Remembers.

  • Btw regarding the city at the beginning, now thinking about it it cant be either present-day Kings Landing or Mereen. The dragon shadow was just way too big for that scene to be present-day. Plus Mereen is supposed to have pyramids and we know from the look of Yunkai and Astapor that the show has kept the pyramid look that the slave cities had in the books.

So my guess is that its a vision of what is to come, possibly seen by Bran.

  • Just a quick compliant and my only one..

    That dragon noise!

It was fine for when they were little and even in season 3. But with a huge dragon shadow like that passing over KL… The dragon noise needs to slow down or something, be deeper and more scary. That baby bird/crocodile cry doesn’t match a dragon that size…

I watched this trailer so many times and that is the only thing that honestly bugged me…

Enough of that cute “Dany’s widdle dragon” noise and give these dragons some deep scary sounds now… Hearing baby crocs/bird type noises doesn’t scare anyone.

    NOTE TO D&D:
DRAGON SOUNDS NEED TO SCALE UP AND CHANGE WHILE THE DRAGAN’S SIZE AND MAJORITY ALSO SCALE UP AND CHANGE.

    Alright rant done…

I just really hope D&D don’t get set in keeping dragons the size of birds to dogs sound the same as a full grown dragon the size of a truck.

It may not bother anyone else here but that cutesy baby dragon cry has to go and be replaced by something deeper that would make people run in terror.

  • The_Red_Viper:
Not sure if mentioned yet but pause the trailer at 1:21-22. Pretty sure that is Locke behind Allister Thorne.

I thought so at first, too. After looking at photos of Locke, I think we’re just seeing an extra in the trailer.

  • Arthur,

You’re assuming that the dragon cry was not a slowed down version of what we heard in Season 3. They might not have finished the foley work yet. Personally, I don’t mind the cry as it is. I’m glad it doesn’t sound typical. These dragons have always sounded unique compared to the ones heard in films/ cartoons in the past.

  • Discussion has popped up that the Sansa/hooded scene is her escaping with Dontos after the PW; note there’s water in the background of that shot. And the scene with her silhouette is the same as the 6 sec teaser we got awhile back. She has her hair fashioned like Cat and she’s in the Eyrie (there’s snow and the architecture is very Eyrie-like).

  • Tori Targaryen,

    Love your handle and portrait!

I understand and this is my opinion.

Sound is very important. It’s one of your major sensory intakes. And, in my brain, that huge shadow and those baby season 2 cries do not go together…

That being said, my personal opinion is those dragon cries were great for seasons 1-3. But if the dragons continue to grow I really hope their voices/cries/noises (whatever) also change to be lower and less childlike.

All animals start out with childlike screams so their parents (and species) can recognize its an infant talking. These dragons aren’t infants anymore! They need to shed their baby looks AND sounds…

To put it very simply and in a human term…

Their balls need to drop and voices need to deepen…

  • facelessarya,

Sansa/Alayne’s shot as she steps into the snowy courtyard is eerie and beautiful, and she is stunning when she turns back to the camera, hooded. That may be my favorite shot.

Dammit GRRM….give us a Sansa preview TWoW chapter already! It has been 8 frickin’ years since AFfC was published!

  • Some notes regarding Yara:

    1) The shot that we know for a fact is her in the trailer has her bringing her crew in a longship towards a bank on a river in a very greenish leafy locale (ie. not the Iron Islands and not Dragonstone). Based on the scenes they used with Theon and Ramsay right outside the Dreadfort in S3, there’s a striking resemblance to the banks of the Dreadfort. Add that to the fact that she explicitly stated in the S3 finale that she was planning on traveling up the Narrow Sea to the Weeping Widow (a river) to get to the Dreadfort from the rear and I think it’s very safe to assume she reaches her stated destination.

    2) The shot of Melisandre talking to someone could literally be any female with dark hair. Why people are suddenly stating with authority that it’s Yara is strange to me. You’re looking at a 1/4 of the back of someone’s head with no clear identifying characteristic.

Based on what Melisandre is saying to this unidentified person (“There’s only one hell, the one we live in now”) I’d say she’s responding to someone trying to condemn her to hell for whatever she’s going to do or has done. Most likely hypothesis is her having a quick chat with someone who’s about to get burnt to a crisp at Dragonstone before Stannis shoves off (a scene that is definitely happening which we also see Melisandre presiding over in the trailer).

  • King Tommen:

Nice catch. It does seem believable to me, and the set photos here: http://winteriscoming.net/2013/10/dramatic-set-photos-from-ballintoy-harbour/, do have a woman burning on the left

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I know right? But a part of me loves this delicious anticipation. Her storyline could really go anywhere at this point.

I think all of Sansa’s shots this season will be really gorgeous. The sets for the Eyrie are already pretty but place Sophie Turner in them and their loveliness increases tenfold. (That girl could be wearing trash bags and look great.) I think most of the directors know how to focus on her face and manipulate the light in certain shots. The overall color scheme for the Vale is complimentary to Sophie as well. The snowy atmosphere is a nice touch too. Plus she’s emulating Catelyn, which makes me so sad!

  • Am I the only one slightly put off by the fact that they didn’t even try to make Daario look like the other one? I wonder if they’ll even try to explain his different look somehow (IE bookstyle with the tyroshi’s exotic flair for colors or something). I hate inconsistency in shows as far as actors but I suppose it had to happen to an ensemble this big at some point.

  • facelessarya,

Great description! Thx. I’m really looking forward to several scenes at the Eyrie.

Personally, I believe one of the most stunning and daunting moments in all the books will be when (and if) LS ever gets to meet Sansa or Arya again, after they’ve had their Vale and Braavos adventures.

  • I don’t see when the people are seeing Sons of the Harpy. These are clearly slaves (look at their garbs) attacking a Slave Master.

  • Adam:

I have it on good authority that they’ll just be pulling a Young and the Restless and have GRRM narrate a quick “The part of Daario Naharis will now be played by….” in his first appearance of the season. Should be a lot of fun. Also, they will be going back to all the S2 BluRays and removing any reference to the Mountain while having anyone conversing with Ian Whyte overdub their lines with “Tregor McGlain”. Bold strategy IMO, let’s see if it pays off.

  • Shan: It’s necessary, too, really. That’s the last time Jaime and Cersei boink. It has to be awful and self-loathing and miserable.

…and the most talked about scene of the year at the watercooler! Only on HBO…

  • Premislaus:
I don’t see when the people are seeing Sons of the Harpy. These are clearly slaves (look at their garbs) attacking a Slave Master.

Clearly (the graffiti on the wall beside the guy spells it out pretty well). I think that Dany’s conquering of Meereen will be very different then the way it went down in the books.

For 1) they kind of already stole that move in S3 when they took Yunkai. And 2) You can see in the trailer that a scene which is presumably in the finale (the shepherd presenting his daughter’s Drogon-fried bones to Dany) and Jorah is hanging out beside Dany which means he’s not getting banished until much later than the books have him go.

  • Every scene in this trailer gives me something to salivate over. I wonder if the dragon flying over KL isn’t maybe a dream sequence? Love the Cersei moment. And I know it’s just the trailer, but loving the way they show Jamie with his “new hand” and Cersei right after. Hands of gold are always cold…

Nice to see Alliser again, and digging the Jon action scenes. His line about the wildlings is very good :) And Bran touching the tree, can’t wait.

  • King Tommen,

lol. I don’t mind the mountain changes because I don’t think we saw him last season without a helmet and armor, so by the time we see him without it again (S4) it’ll have been 3 years, and honestly I forgot what the good one (S1) looked like. Same thing with beric, because by the time we saw him again it’d been two seasons, and they could always use the resurrection angle to explain his appearance change.

  • Joejoe,
I will assume you’re a book reader, my guess is that these are the sons of the Harpy attacking (and killing) one of Dany’s freedmen in Mereen

  • I want to hate the possible change that Drogon flies over King’s Landing, but that might actually work. I assume that he will be MIA after killing the child and the other dragons are chained up. Then he shows up near the end of the season above KL. That could lead to a bigger surprise of him showing up at the end of next season in the fighting pits. It would take some clever work on the writers’ parts, especially in Season 5, but it could happen.

Or he could drop in to save Tyrion, who flies off into the sunset. No way to know until April

Edit: One more thing. Is it just me, or does it sound like Littlefinger lost some of the over-the-top voice?

  • mustapha:

Why would Sons of the Harpy be wearing slave clothing? Why would there be “kill the masters” graffiti on the wall? IMO It’s slave insurgents/conspirators killing a master

  • Hello, I am trying to make subtitles for this trailer, but I don’t understand Tyrion in 0:40 These are ____________ right now…

    Could anyone help please? Thx

  • RE: The two armies.

It looks like Mel/Baratheon and Yara/Ironmen to me.

Is it possible the two houses will be striking a deal to get Stannis’ army a boat ride North? Will they cut out Stannis’ big surprise at the Wall in order to give Dragonstone and Yara more of a storyline throughout the season?

  • Nerd:

They both are carrying Bolton sigils. It’s Roose and Ramsay meeting up on Roose’s way back up North (presumably after Ramsay gets Theon to help liberate Moat Cailin.

Also, you can tell it’s them by the silhouettes. Looks like Roose has got some Frey’s with him too.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I await that day eagerly. It would be such an intense scene. I don’t know how LS would react given her new personality. Would she even recognize them as her children or would she regard them with the same hatred she gives everyone else? I think it would be especially weird if she ever met Sansa again because of LF… would she hate Sansa because of it and view her like a traitor of sorts? I’ve read fic where that happens.

  • Wow.

So Drogon is huge now and flying over KL while Melisandre talks to Yara about Hell and the 50 or so Harpy’s sons surround and kill one guy.

Cmon WiCnetters. You’re better than this.

  • Enfield:
Edit: One more thing. Is it just me, or does it sound like Littlefinger lost some of the over-the-top voice?

No, it’s not just you. Aiden Gillen dropped the batman voice and I thank god everyday because of it. Holy crap, the way he’d deepen the accent was ridiculous. I couldn’t take Littlefinger seriously at all.

  • Enfield,
If he were talking to Lysa or Sansa I doubt LF would go full-on gravel-voice. He only seems to do that around people who he is politicking with.

    King Tommen,
A Roose-Ramsay…that would hit the spot.

  • Thank god that wait is over, it was doing my head in! :) Sooo goood, I cannot wait!
    Allister Thorne is back!!

  • facelessarya,

Haha I think I got used to it.

    Greenjones,

I’m not sure about that. I bet he was asking the Lords Declarant whose side they were on, and he didn’t seem to have it there. And I’m pretty sure the line about “hurting the ones we love” was his, but he may have been talking to Sansa there. (Actually that’s not a bad justification for his part in the PW)

  • The Game of Thrones HBO website has a better quality trailer than the youtube version I think. It looks better to me at least.

  • Enfield,

You’re right that they could have very well mixed and matched different things that he says into one trailer speech. I hope he uses revenge for Cat as a PW justification to Sansa because it might make people more sympathetic towards him, even though we know what he is capable of and what he has done.

  • awesome. great to have a look at oberyn, jaime’s various scenes, and the battle at the wall. Looks likeRamsay and Roose will meet this season, I am also intrigued by the dragons shadow in KL(that was the red keep at the end, and no other cities in Essos look like that either, it was definitely KL

  • I’m pretty sure the first shot with the dragon shadow is not from the actual show. That’s a real city there, with (relatively) modern architecture and even a Christian church.

  • I’m fairly sure the boy next to Jon is the same one seen running from the camp when the wildlings attack.

  • Abyss,

Holy Christ, that is daunting. No rush obviously. They are just very useful and are always appreciated.

    NomadicDirewolf,

Perhaps that’s what Bran will see when he touches the weirwood.

The trailer’s over 2 million views BTW.

  • I thought that first spoken line was Davos.
Love all the Lannister stuff. Someone mentioned the sword coloring. Maybe Jaime gives Joff “Widow’s Wail” here? That one is supposed to be golden I think?
Also love Cersei crying and flipping out about everybody wanting a piece of Tommen.
“I’m burning our house to the ground before I let that happen!” Eh, that’s not ominous or anything.

Also curious about the Littlefinger part. At first thought he’s talking to Olenna here but that’s just my Tyrell fangirling. It’s probably to one of the noble Vale people.

  • Did anyone else notice this? (super minor but yet weird) The scene with Joeffry looking at his own wedding ceremony (outdoor) is the mirrored version of the same scene we already saw a while ago from the 8 second HBO promo …

  • 0:32 has me wondering about the book-to-show timeline. Assuming that it is this goat herder scene, Jorah should have been banished by Daenerys a long time before it

  • I think this has potential to be a pretty amazing season. I think certain characters who haven’t been handled well in the past (Jon and Stannis in particular, and maybe even LF and the Hound as well) may be set on the road to recovery here, and I figure this season will be slightly less scattered than the previous one.

Some ‘airtime per storyline’ predictions –

King’s Landing – Unlike Season 3 (where KL and Tyrion were featured overmuch, to the detriment of other stories), spending a lot of time here in Season 4 will be quite justified. While Sansa and Joffrey will depart early (one to the Eyrie and one to…well, you know), we’ll still have Tyrion, Jaime, Cersei, Tywin, Tommen, Margaery, Loras, Mace, Olenna, Varys, Oberyn, Ellaria, Shae, Bronn, Pod, Brienne (for most of the season?), as well as the various ancillary characters, to focus on. 10 episodes out of 10.

The Wall/Night’s Watch – This should really be the second main story this season, and I hope the showrunners treat it as such. I have no idea how it will be structured in terms of the first and second battles, Jon’s expedition to Craster’s, and Stannis’s arrival but I think it merits at least 9 episodes out of 10, if not the whole set.

Dany – Moving into ADWD material should allow D&D the 8 episodes they’ve given her the past two seasons. 3 was a big improvement over 2 for her, let’s hope it gets even better!

Arya – They’ll need to invent some stuff if the season ends with Arya boarding the Titan’s Daughter, and Arya is of course a very popular character of course, but I’m going to guess 7.

Sansa – If the PW is in episode 2 as suspected (known?), Sansa will be in her own storyline for most of the season. I’m guessing we’ll see her in 5 episodes after she escapes.

Stannis – If his arrival at the Wall is in 9, we probably won’t see him in 8 or even 7. Of the first six (and knowing how little the writers wrote for the Dragonstone gang last year), we may see Stannis/Davos/Mel/etc. in…3? Hopefully more.

Bran – They have to spread quite a bit of material out. 6.

Theon – 6ish? Interested in seeing where they take the Boltons this year.

    Asha – No idea.

  • Erik:
Rast is continuing to sacrifice babies to the others.Huh.

Henceforth he will be known as Raster. Nice to know that even bad guys feel obliged to keep up old northern traditions – what a brilliant, brilliant twist!

  • 1 h late to work…damn you GoT for making me stay up so late! :P

Before reading any of the comments I liked it but not sure if the unsullied will…just sent it to all of my friends, will have some feedback soon!

  • That is dragon shadow over Kings Landing but it can´t be Danny dreaming it since she doesn´t know what KL looks like.

My guess is that it´s Tyrions dream after witch he decides to go seek out Danny.

  • With the RV here to save the day … are we finally getting flashbacks of the Sack of King’s Landing and a certain head-smashing GREGOR SMASH! . . . and maybe a glimpse at Robert’s Rebellion, Rhaegar and so on? I guess it’d be a good point in time to talk about the past a little bit, with Oberyn there for is great vengeance agenda…

  • Valaquen,

I wish I could believe that, but the Kingsguard armour is scaled because KL is a port city, that was the way the costume designers interpreted it, but I do like how they incorporated antlers into the metal work this season (or maybe they’ve been there for ages, I’m not sure).

Also, is that Qyburn fitting Jaime’s new hand you think?

  • Lucy,

But that would go so much against the book! Like Tywin refuses to believe or whatever but if a dragon flies over KL it would just change everything.

  • Quite a lot for us to get stuck into there! Here are my likes and dislikes:

    LIKES:
    - The two glimpses of Sansa. Her arc is my favourite of the whole book series, and definitely the one in which GRRM can still give us huge twists going forward. I cannot wait to see Sansa again.
    – Stannis, Melisandre and Davos. These guys need far more scenes this season.
    – Everything Tyrion related. All of it. This is a huge season for him, quite possibly his last one.
    – Wildlings, Jon Snow, The Wall. Alliser Thorne. The whole Night’s Watch section of Series 4 will be electric. I cannot wait.
    – Yara. She is nice to look at, and I quite like her character. She is truly ironborn. She also has huge potential for future seasons.
    – Rast, you mean bugger. Who does the baby belong to?
    – The Sept of Baelor is the greatest building ever created. If GOT was real, I’d spend every waking hour inside that astonishing building. It’s fantastic.
    – Did I mention Sansa? She’s so good she deserves another mention. What a beauty. Eddard Stark would be proud of his two daughters.

    DISLIKES:
    - I have never liked, nor will I ever like, any Daenerys Targaryen scenes post-Khal Drogo. Up until his death I was a huge fan, but ever since his death her storyline has bored me to tears. I have zero interest in the dragons and even less interest in her moral crusade. It detracted from the books and it detracts massively from the show. IMO.
    – Jaime Lannister’s golden hand. Considering how rich his family is, you’d think someone could afford to commission a hand that doesn’t make him look like C3PO. The main glimpse you get of the hand makes him look like a pauper, despite it being gold.
    – The Red Viper. Am I the only one who doesn’t like his look? And in the fight clip, he looks like he’s really trying hard. I swear in the book he’s this super-awesome unbeatable fighter who toys with the Mountain before coming a cropper unexpectedly? Anyway, from what I’ve seen, I am disappointed.
    – Bran and Hodor sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S…zzz…zzz…zzz
    – Cersei. I find her tedious now. The writers had better ramp up her lines this season.

  • LF: “I want to know who’s side you’re on”… Aaaaaand cut to a shot of Bran.

    Well, don we all!??!!!!

    Cheers Baelish!!!

  • tysnow:

    1. Could Dany be warged into Drogon, that opening shot appears to be from a dragons eye point.

    No…

    10. RV! Oberyn looks awesome, perfect, and what about that Spanish, err Dornish accent. (Good to know D&D are going this route, cannot wait for a hot Latin actress in a certain role, so who’s it gonna be?)

It doesn’t sound spanish to me…we’ll have to wait until we hear Indira Varma speak but I don’t think they’re going that route

    12. Carice van Houten is numero uno on my list, that’s Dornish for number one.

    No it’s not :P

  • FRICKIN GREAT! loved it, especially seeing tyrion cry, i wish they would have included more shots of ne characters… Im so excited for the 3 eyed raaven !

I think Alliser Thorne will take the place of Donal Noye and therefore they sent the guy who cut off jamies hand to the wall, so they have another antagonist for jon, once he becomes lord commander

  • WeirwoodTreeHugger,

    WeirwoodTreeHugger,

I’m not sure it will be possible for Jaime and Cersei to have sex on Joffrey’s memorial. The implications of Jaime arriving back at King’s Landing early (still can’t work out why they did that) will mean that Jaime and Cersei may have already drifted apart by this point, driven further by Cersei’s anger at Jaime for not protecting Joffrey.

  • I’m sure this has been talked about but I can’t find it here among all the comments. Who is kneeling at 1.24 and in what context? It’s been a while since I read the books…

  • Clob,

I don’t think that the city in the begining of the trailer/teaser si Mereen…I think it’s King’s Landing (Slavers Cities are supposed to be filled with pyramids, not mediteraneean houses (filmed in Dubrovnik) and a Red Keep
GoT doesn’t do much flashbacks so maybe it’s just for the trailer (at least the dragon shadow, not necesarily the entire shot)….and the shadow’s too big for the dragons (considering their dimensions seen in the 3rd series)

  • Ionuts,

It doesn’t look like that particular shot will feature at all. Look at how badly the CGI walls of the Red Keep clash with the real buildings of the Old Town, it’s probably akin to the “Raven” teaser that predated any promotional material for the first season.

Anyway, the most annoying thing about this trailer is, we get 88 seconds (about that when you take away the black shots and the KL teaser) of pure awesome scenery, dialogue and action, and 2 seconds of Myranda. Lame! At least it’s only #1, and may the #2 trailer be a less agonizing wait for everyone.

  • Nick Larter,

That’s the price the mutineers must pay for killing their commander. Does anyone seriously believe they had a masterplan sorted out for when they took over Craster’s? They are in the haunted forest, alone, cold and afraid, and running out of options, and the only way they can stay alive is to continue giving up the sons. I can’t wait for the Night’s Watch to show them the true cost of desertion. One way or an(Other), they’ll all be dead before the Season’s out!

  • Love the scene between Jaime and Joffrey. Since this is a change from the books, I am curious to see Jaime’s interactions with Cersei, Tyrion and Tywin prior to Joffrey’s death and his actions at the PW. More scenes of the Lannister family dynamics is a plus, for me.

As far as Theon, he appears to be wearing his armor…at least that’s what it looks like to me. Possibly a flashback or a dream sequence before Reek is unveiled.

  • mariamb: Love the scene between Jaime and Joffrey.

But will this mean Jaime won’t tell Brienne that he “was nothing but a squirt of seed in Cersei’s cunt & he deserved to die”? It was only a thought in the book but it wouldn’t be the first time a thought was made vocal.

  • facelessarya,

Uhm, strongly implied spoilers there. They might not know who LS is, but if you say Sansa is her daughter it’s pretty easy to understand that it is either Ned or Catelyn, which IS a huge potential spoiler. Hopefully a mod fixes that, as I’ve seen them spoiler tag much less spoilery comments.

Either way, I agree such a scene would be amazing. Speculation time: I think Arya will meet Stoneheart (before or after getting her wolf pack) and will be the one to put her out of her misery, which is forshadowed by the Kindly Man’s story in the House of Black and White (where he tells Arya the story about the origins of the faceless men and he says they killed the man that pleaded for vengeance rather than the one he wanted dead- the gift of death). Either way, Stoneheart will have to leave her mark on the Freys and on Jamie/Brienne’s storyline before she goes out.

  • Nick Larter: Henceforth he will be known as Raster.Nice to know that even bad guys feel obliged to keep up old northern traditions – what a brilliant, brilliant twist!

Dunno, he looks pretty distressed. Probably Craster’s is overrun with Wights and he thinks this will save him… but it wont :)

  • Apart from the really obvious ones, I can’t place where every scene takes place. Considering when he was first cast there was a lot of negativity about Pedro Pascal as the Red Viper, just going by the trailer he doesn’t look so bad to me ……. I did wonder, going back several months now, when casting snippets were leaking out, with the show-runners being so stinting with information this time around, was the African-looking man who was rushed by the mob played by Hoji Fortuna (hope I have his name correct) the African actor who was at one time said to be in Game of Thrones; then he wasn’t going to be in Game of Thrones and I think Wic stated he would probably be playing a small part or be an extra. OT: but may help those of us from opposite sides of the Atlantic understand each other http://www.translatebritish.com/ – the foregoing is a website I found that translates (colloquial) British English into American English and does have a feature for doing the reverse. I’m not sure if it’s been maintained since 2011 and don’t expect it to be like Webster’s Dictionary.

  • Nerd,

It’s Roose Bolton (right, standing) and Ramsay (left, walking towards the center)…check the flags…army in the left, definitely bearing Dreadfort’s skinned man, and the guys in the right also Dreadfort, plus some Freys I guess…

  • Just realized that the Dothraki are back, at least in the background. At the scene where Dany’s on her Stone Throne, two of her bloodriders are flanking her sides. Nice touch, as I feared they may have cut the Dothraki out completely. Not that it mattered much after they’ve killed Irri, which was pretty much the only one that has lines in the books beyond ACOK.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

I totally agree with you, regarding the #2 trailer to come being better/ more satisfying. The KL scene, I don’t know….shooting it just for a trailer seems like a waste of money (I see it’s mostly CGI, probably based on aerial shots of Dubrovnik (Croatia) or other mediteraneean city and also a waste of time, which HBO does not have with a show like this…

I too, was expecting a longer cut of the first trailer giving the fact that, after the end of the 3rd season, HBO went almost silent (and no, that “production diary” doesn’t cut it, in terms of information for the fans) … maybe if they did something similar to the 3rd season presentation of new characters, or maybe like the ones made by Peter Jackson for the Hobbit movies. I thinks that would appease the “masses” (by that I mean thefans of the show AND of the books)…

  • mariamb: As far as Theon, he appears to be wearing his armor…at least that’s what it looks like to me. Possibly a flashback or a dream sequence before Reek is unveiled.

They’ve dressed him up so he can present himself to the Ironborn at Moat Cailin and catch the men off guard for the massacre. That seems the most plausible take on it, given the show’s thing for not doing flashbacks.

  • Ionuts,

What we need now is a good, long Behind the Scenes video which introduces the new characters and gets some of the old cast to talk. Hopefully we can get it some time early in February- we have to pace ourselves here, this trailer is twice as long as the first trailer of season 3 and it took till late February to get that one. Hopefully the trailers will only ramp up again in late February/early March or we’ll have seen too much by the time the of the premiere.

  • Ionuts,

A 5-10 minute production diary every month or 2 would be cool, but considering how much the producers have taken the show in different directions, I’m sure they want to keep those little twists (like Rast and the child) under wraps during the filming process. Or else, by the time the show comes to air the content will be so over-analyzed by fans that it’ll be a situation very like when crackpot theories about ASOIAF emerge on the forums, because of the shear amount of viewpoints that’ve gone into creating them.

At the very least they should have 2 or 3 minutes each release to talk about the new and returning locations, sets, characters, props etc. All the previous seasons had the full package, and all before the first episode aired.

  • Arya (Maisie Williams) looks more and more like a teenage girl …within a year or two I think they’ll have a serious problem “selling” her as a tomcat Stark girl or even as Cat of the Alleys .

  • Has fansided taken over? Taken me 20 minutes to type thi. due to My words disappear when typing, Safari crashes within 10 seconds of viewing this thread. Fix your shit

  • Valyrian Plastic,

If they are actually including Moat Cailin, and not replacing it with the Yara arc… What the hell are they doing with Yara?! Clearly, she doesn’t get taken by Stannis on the way to the Dreadfort, since we see her entourage on the river boats (which means she at least GETS to her destination). I guess Stannis might still abduct her on her way back, though I hope not- I really want her at the Kingsmoot and definitely hope to see the battle at Deepwood Motte (or some adaption of it) on screen. Anyway, if Ramasay and the Boltons are off at Moat Cailin and Harrenhal, will Yara arrive at an empty Dreadfort? That would be entirely pointless, wouldn’t it? Maybe she’ll interact with Ramsay and Theon before they leave for the Riverlands?

Also, I wan’t to see Brienne again. Hopefully she’ll be in the next trailer, and hopefully the next trailer is going to feature more calm dramatic scenes and less action packed fights, now that we’ve gotten this awesome one out of the way.

  • jentario,

Okay, there might be a flaw there, but it depends on whether the Ironborn are kicked out of the North in the first few episodes of the season, as Yara is still travelling all the way from Pyke, around Dorne and the Narrow Sea and up Weeping Water, having only left in the last episode. It would be unrealistic if she could travel all that distance before Ramsay exterminates the last of the Ironborn he can get his hands on, Joffrey gets married and Stannis travels most of the way to Eastwatch. It’s possible both elements will be incorporated in the end.

Edit: I’d also like to see Brienne, her absence was noticeable and her arc with Jaime never had a satisfying conclusion. There should be more Tyrell and Martell intrigue and more of the Vale Lords as well next time, and no bedwarmers!

  • Over at Extras NI’s Facebook page a member commented that he played a mammoth’s leg (probably to be digitally replaced later).

  • Carne,

What if the mammoths are all going to be like pantomime horses? I kid but don’t hope. But hey, at least this confirms they’re going to be around this season.

  • Ionuts,

lonuts, (regarding your comment, which I thought I’d quoted but it hasn’t worked) about keeping readers and viewers happy I don’t post at westeros.org but I sometimes read some of the entries there- about the show at least. I think some of the book purists will NEVER be satisfied. I saw a post on t’other site where someone had only recently posted that Michelle Fairley was too old (in his/her opinion) to play Catelyn. I thought that controversy had died the death long ago. When I saw the show I was Unsullied so took the show on show value only. I’m getting there gradually with the books and in fact have more read than unread though I found the later part somewhat rambling. I do want to know how it all ends though (book series and TV series). I’ve said on other threads that generally I like adaptations to remain faithful to their source material (though I was glad there were no Vargo and “thaphires” and no blue beard for Daario though I may be in a minority of one there). I know you personally at not one of those who whinge about changes – I think a lot of the changes come down to money and time. It’s a pit the show-runners can’t afford to do a season with at least a few more episodes; they might be able to portray some of the subtleties that are in the books then. Although I think I may have to re-read or re-listen to at least some of the books because I sometimes see matters referred to on these threads that I’ve quite forgotten. Then again it’s possible to like books/shows without being overly obsessive. (And I do appreciate that you are not an obsessive – I just wanted to address the comment about keeping book and show readers happy).

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Well, good old Yara was on her trip since the end of season 3, and I doubt it will take her a whole season to get there. I know it’s unrealistic, but the show has done that before- when Littlefinger teleports from Bitterbridge to Harrenhal in, what, one episode? My point is, there will likely be a time skip early on that will allow Yara to reach the other side of Westeros in the first half of the season, otherwise that scene from Mhysa would have just happened in season 4.

  • nobody mentioned yet, I think, at 0:14: Oznak zo Pahl is attacking! Who might be the opponent ?!

  • OldeCrone,

You’re right…please read “AND some of the fans of the books”.
I generally dislike book purists too, not only GoT’s. I was also hooked by the show (“unsullied”… hehe … I liked that), then I read the books (1 thru 5, and the two excerpts form book 6) and I had no problem with the changes/additions made by the writers. Actually I quite enjoyed some of them (e.g. Arya vs. Tywin or Arya vs. Frey soldiers after the RW).
I mean, D&D have roughly around 10-12 months to prepare an entire bloody season, filmed in 3-4 locations around Europe and/or Northern Africa. Hats down to them!…Without these guys, we wouldn’t have ANY GoT whatsoever…

  • Great to see Myranda is back. Charlotte Hope is a lovely actress.
I hope Hope’s part is bigger this season.

  • Well, that was sufficiently epic to tide me over until April 6. Or at least, until the next sneak peek, whenever it comes.

So much to love in just 1:44. In no particular order …

    – Oberyn Martell. While we may have only seen a combined 10 seconds of footage, Pedro Pascal is looking like a stellar casting choice. That brief shot of his duel with the impressively hulking Gregor Clegane was the highlight of the trailer And putting him in a scene with Varys is just a great idea. Conleth Hill brings out the best in everyone he works with on this show.

    – A scene between Joffrey and Jaime – one of the many intriguing perks of having Jaime arrive in King’s Landing before the PW. Based on this scene and Cersei’s tearful rant about everyone wanting a piece of the newly-crowned Tommen, the Lannister twins dealing with their uncoventional parenthood will be a significant theme this year

Jaime ‘consoling’ Cersei beside Joffrey’s corpse. Glad to see it made the cut after all. No doubt this scene will turn a few of the weaker stomachs on the internet (not that there are many of those) but it’s absolutely necessary.

-A fairly large number of Bolton scenes (I counted at least 4). Glad to see our favorite flayers are getting an increase in screentime to coincide with their increase in notoriety.

-Dany embracing the attitude of a conqueror. Emilia Clarke kills it when she gets to be a ruthless, smoking-hot badass. That being said, that smile at the end hints that she might be falling just a little too deeply in love with her own growing legend. That scene with the goatherder reminds her how easily pride can precede a fall

-The brief glimpses of Jon and the Night’s Watch in the lead-up to the Battle at the Wall look excellent. Neil Marshall may have surpassed the standard he set with Blackwater.

-Sansa as Alayne Stone in the Eyrie and Arya fighting at the Inn. Glad to see the surviving Stark siblings are acquitting themselves so well. Even the shot of Bran discovering the power of the Weirwoods speaks well for things to come.

-Peter Dinklage, a.k.a. the series MVP. He may have taken a slight step back to accommodate other storylines in Season 3, but this is his year. He’s going to kill it. His inevitable Emmy nomination will be richly deserved.

  • The dragon shadow is an interesting one.

Has to be a flashback, a prophesy or the final shot of the season when Drogon flies off on his own. Maybe he swung by King’s Landing?

  • Regarding a possible Yara storyline:

    1. We see that Roose and Ramsey are likely outside of the Dreadfort based what we are presuming is the shot of 2 people meeting on top of the hill.
    2. Theon in armor could mean that it’s him holding the white flag marching toward Moat Cailin.
    3. Yara could “take” the Dreadfort looking for Theon only to discover no one is there and decides to wait for their return. This would replace Deepwood Motte.
    4. The Boltons learn of the Dreadfort falling to Yara and decide to head to Winterfell.
    5. Stannis finds and captures her there in a future season.

    Just a thought…

  • Hoyti Von Totiy,

I agree, i saw him in season 3 and he looked A LOT different from the 1st and the 2nd series. But in his case, things are somewhat different (he won’t be getting in an upright position anytime soon, right). Although, I often wondered what will he look like riding poor Hodor, in a year or two from now (depending how long can D&D stretch his story arc)….And, can you imagine how Rickon will look like, considering he kinda goes off radar after the separation from his brother (I guess he’ll appear in the books (and shows) to come)?

  • Wow Hodor looks well…all hodorific! That half-giant wildling look he’s sporting seems to agree with him!!!! Hodor!!!!

Also…as expected…HBOCANADA managed to take all the joy out of waiting for the trailer by not airing it! Thank you and fuck you very much!!! Their website wasn’t even updated as of this morning… It’s still showing the Season Three promo poster!

But considering who is in charge…this is what happens when you allow a telecom company, in this case Bell Canada, to both own the broadcast infrastructure and the content! Ever since Bell Canada bought TMN (The Movie Network) and became part owners of HBOCANADA , things have turned to shit because off all the incompetent fucktards in charge who don’t give a shit on viewers and customers beyond squeezing the last pennies out of their pockets… Yep folks Canada, a country of almost 36 million people has it’s entertainment and telecommunications market strangled by 3 parasites called Rogers Telecomunications, Bell Canada and Telus…so from the bottom of my heart…fuck you all!

On a more positive note, “True Detective” has the makings of a great show! Liked the pilot episode. Given the fact that both McConaughey and Harrelson have been on fire lately with their various projects, I am not surprised! Some real fine acting last night!

I’m glad for WiC being around to pick up the slack from shitheels like Bell Canada and HBOCANADA and providing the trailer to fans who pay a premium price for the content but get ripped off too goddamn often…

  • JamesL:
    Azzy Mahmood,

No, your not the only one.I don’t think the Red Viper looks that great on the show either.I was hoping he would look more bad ass and better looking like this http://f0.bcbits.com/img/a1123860413_10.jpg.They should have at least given him long hair.

I agree with the long hair idea

    tongtonk:

    Just a thought…

Yeah someone mentioned this theory in another thread and I like it

  • tongtonk,

That works, but I would still not understand the point of the arc, as opposed to staying true to the source material. The only thing it does is remove the Deepwood Mott set, but they will probably need new Dreadfort sets anyway for this to work. What would be the point behind this change then? It removes Yara from the Kingsmoot, which is a huge loss. I guess if they are cutting the Iron Islands story completely, it makes sense.

  • Virtus,

I think that is not Yara (it’s way too soon for her to meet the Baratheons/Melissandre) .
If episode 9 is about the TWO battles at Castle Black/The ice Wall (south and later north of the ice wall) (at least according to the articles I’ve read – interviews of Neil Marshall, director of that particular episode) then that woman should be a wildling (maybe Val) and that scene should be seen in ep. 10 (in my humble opinion).

  • What’s interesting is haven’t they confirmed Art Parkinson’s return this season?

I still can’t get over people losing their shit over a dragon shadow.

    Yes, it’s KL.
No, it’s not Drogon. (the shenanigans to proceed on KL hinge on Cersei and others believing and continuing to believe that dragons have been long since dead.)
    Maybe it’s a vision/flashback.
    Maybe it’s a promo tease.
    It does look…animated?

I don’t know, I don’t claim to know, but some of these speculations are just wild.

    Ionuts:

  • Looks like the dreadfort soldier on the horse is either entering Winterfell, Harrenhall or the Dreadfort. It might be early in the season, then it could be the second, but what if it’s the third? It’s incredibly early :( It does make the storyline less dull if they make Theon travel, do the Moat, meet Roose AND arrive at Winterfell, but imo it’s too fast. There is other stuff they could’ve done.

  • Randa: WiCnett

    Oy, and here we go.

    1. We don’t know what that shadow over King’s Landing is. It wouldn’t make sense that it’s a dragon, but still. It’s an establishing shot, with a shadow, and we like dragon noises.

    2. We don’t know who Melisandre is speaking to. Maybe it’s Yara. Maybe not! Either way, this is not the book!

    3. What’s your point?

    I mean, c’mon. Lame complaints.

  • Randa,

Nope. He was seen in Bellfast, but he was filming the Dracula movie there, so it doesn’t necessarily mean he worked on GoT season 4. I personally think there’s no room for Rickon until he becomes important, which will likely be in late season 5 or season 6, if I might speculate.

  • jentario,

I think the change establishes more of a connection to Theon, perhaps? And gives viewers an easier time digesting who she is, where she is, and why than oh, btdubs Yara’s at Deepwood Motte. Just gives her plot intrigue.

I agree with you that she NEEDS to be at the KM. But how hard would it be to work an end season raven to that theory, taking her back to Pyke temporarily while her men…hold down the fort? Heh.

***sorry if spoilery, my mobile device says nay.***

  • jentario,

    Thanks for the clarification!

Also, sorry to have awoken Greatjon’s wrath from it’s Slumber. My original comment was hasty, but farther down you will see where I find certain speculation silly. But far be it for me to be a book purist.

  • It’s beautiful. This trailer hints at awesome adapted scenes (Thorne as Donal Nooye, great scenes lifted straight from the books (RV vs. The Mountain that rides) and completely new scenes which could actually greatly enhance the narrative (Joffrey and Jaime FTW just like the scenes from the first season (E.g. y’all remember Cersei and Bobby B talking about their marriage).

Eventhough season 3 was a major let down, I believe they’ll do the sourcematerial justice. It’s going to be one hell of a ride. The way the actors bring their lines, the costumes (especially Margaery’s cone of death-hair) and hell even the way the scenes are shot (e.g. Yara in the boat, it looks so peaceful I can easily imagine them rowing and then all of a sudden an attack)

Only two disappointments from this trailer (well beside it being to short): Not enough Charles Dance (but there never is so moot point) and I’m missing NCW’s beard.

  • Hoyti Von Totiy,

Wait till you see how Maisie has grown in the off season, and filming doesn’t start for 6 months, I dread season 5; of course they can use trick angles to give the illusion of her being shorter.

  • Ionuts: I generally dislike book purists too, not only GoT’s

Well I don’t HATE them – more that I think some of them are overly serious. Some people in this thread STILL don’t like the look of the Red Viper, but of course we all form a mentally different picture of a character when we read and it’s not for me to tell other folk what they should or shouldn’t like, especially when liking or disliking something is more instinctive than intellectual. Maybe one day there’ll be a radio adaptation of “A Song of Ice and Fire” – then it wouldn’t matter if, say, Cersei was played by a 90 year old as long as the voice sounded okay. You make some valid points in your posts.

  • Thorne can’t die as it would really screw up the later conflict with Jon. Unless they’re just gonna use Slynt by himself. Maybe just unnamed characters will die under the wall.

  • jentario,

The Dothraki were seen at least twice in S3, both during “Dracarys” and “Mhysa.” And a Dothraki servant girl was seen in the 3×07 Dany/Yunkai parley.

They were hardly noticeable, though. Shame, since Kovarro was so prominently featured in S2.

  • tysnow,

It’s true, the kiddiwinks are growing and except for maybe Art, they ain’t kiddiwinks no more… they’re growing nearly as fast as the dragons. I do like Maisie Williams though. Sophie Turner is really tall – and has been for quite some time. I assume D&D must have considered the timespan and growth spurts when they were originally casting (or asking Nina Gold to cast) the show. I hope they can somehow spin the illusion of the characters still being young so they don’t have to re-cast for the rest of the time “Game of Thrones” has to run (always presuming HBO doesn’t pull the rug out from under them).

  • Veltigar,

Season 3 was a major letdown? Everyone I know said it was their favorite season, although I still think season 1 was best. The only thing I didn’t really like that season was the lack of a certain lady stoneheart, which I really felt the entire season was building towards. Hopefully they still add her this season.

  • Here’s my crackpot about the dragon over KL. Because why not?

    Oberyn and Varys discuss Dany
Oberyn talks to Tyrion about Dany and her dragons when he’s imprisoned
Right before being let out, Tyrion dreams of a dragon over KL
Then Jaime/Varys come wake him up to kill Tywin, escape to Essos and go towards dragons.

  • Veltigar,

    Bobby B lolzz that’s funny.

Why is Season 3 a letdown? It is both a season with tons of building up (being the first half of a book) AND a shocking twist at the end. Great season!

  • Shan: It’s necessary, too, really. That’s the last time Jaime and Cersei boink. It has to be awful and self-loathing and miserable.

“Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know…”

  • For me, the scene of the dragon over Kings Landing looks very cheap: very much like a video game, and the city very much like an Italian city with churches and cafes….

  • Butterbumps:

I’m not going into it again, since I don’t want to spoil everyone’s fun But between the character assassinations, the torture porn, the unnecessary deviations, the horrible adaptations choices and even to the way some scenes where filmed there wasn’t much fun in it. The only thing it had retained was the shockfactor of three side characters dying

  • Randa:
    jentario,

    Thanks for the clarification!

Also, sorry to have awoken Greatjon’s wrath from it’s Slumber. My original comment was hasty, but farther down you will see where I find certain speculation silly. But far be it for me to be a book purist.

Ha, ok. The tongue-in-cheek aspect was lost on me that time.

And good yes to see the same High Septon coming back.

  • Biter the Gallant:
nobody mentioned yet, I think, at 0:14: Oznak zo Pahl is attacking! Who might be the opponent ?!

To what will certainly be wailing and gnashing of teeth for Strong Belwas fans, and apparently over half the fandom who just hate the replacement fighter, the shot-by-shot pics at westeros.org clearly show that it will be Daario.

  • And wow, this footage that we’ve been waiting so long for. Chatting mercilessly about it over at Wicgeeks.

  • I still don’t get the concern about the child actors growing up. Nothing that they do requires them to still be children. Arya is no longer pretending to be a boy. Bran is not going to be traveling beyond this season. Rickon is a non-factor at this point. Let them grow, and don’t try to hide it. GRRM was originally going to do a 5 year time jump after ASOS, so he didn’t have a problem with them growing up.

  • I was watching the HD trailer over on HBO and in the brief scene with the two men (armies) approaching on a hill, like everyone was saying the banner on the left is Flayed Man sigil of House Bolton. There are four (4) flags for the army on the right, I can make out Flayed Man (Bolton), Wolf (Stark) and part of Golden Lion on red field (Lannister), but cannot quite make out the fourth.

I am sooooo hoping they make Charlotte (Myranda) Hope fake Arya, I want to see more of her in coming seasons.

  • “If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place.” Tyrion is talking about GRRM’s novels there, right? Kind of meta…

  • Veltigar: I’m not going into it again, since I don’t want to spoil everyone’s fun But between the character assassinations, the torture porn, the unnecessary deviations, the horrible adaptations choices and even to the way some scenes where filmed there wasn’t much fun in it. Lol

  • jentario:
    cosca,

But the Kingsmoot will be much worse without Yara in it.

Asha/Yara’s presence at the Kingsmoot is mostly needed in the books so as to have a POV character present. Having her uncles conspire in her back while she’s not present to defend herself is a change but might actually work out well for the storyline they’re doing, without having to focus too much on the Iron Islands.

  • OldeCrone:

To me you handle it the same way Seinfeld handled Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s pregnancy: you ignore entirely. Sophie is way tall but she’s also of an age where she won’t grow much more; same with Maisie. Isaac is helped by spending most of his time lying down or in a cart, so his height matters less. If Art turned into Ian Whyte overnight, yes, you might consider re-casting him, but the other 3 will be fine; people play “young” for a long long time, and I’d rather have these great actors than worry about whether they look the right age.

  • Randa,

I don’t know whether HBO confirmed Art Parkinson for this new season or not, but if they would use Rickon, Osha and Shaggy Dog as a separate little arc, it would definitely show something new and maybe interesting (maybe use it to stretch a bit more the story arc of the Stark boys (and, yes, I know they’re separate by now)).
We’ll see… As many before me have already stated … April is coming.

  • tysnow:

I do not think the children aging is a problem at all. Not in the least. Let’s face it the timeline in ASOIAF is extremely vague anyway. It makes total sense for the events in this show to take roughly the same amount of time as the show does so the main children characters becoming young adults will seem natural and logical to everyone except book purists. Plus the passage of years of time makes the series more epic.

I believe that the dragon in the beginning may be part of a new opening sequence for the show.

  • g.o.d,

If they wanted to test their popularity they certainly have! Really they could just renew the show now based on these stats.

  • When I saw the overhead of King’s Landing (yes, it is definitely KL) followed by a screech and a dragon shadow, my thought was “Cool, we’re definitely seeing the start of the GOT trailer.” I really think that’s all it is–an intro to the trailer. Way too many people making way too much of that one little shot and not using their common sense. No way the dragons have gotten that big and no way one of them does a KL fly-by on their way to Meereen. It’s a dream sequence at most and very likely nothing that will actually be used in the show.

  • Tyrion Pimpslap,

Exactly. In fact, he wasn’t going to do a time jump, he originally intended that the events up until the end of ASOS occured over 5 years. So the children’s ages are really not a problem.

  • beatlefloydzeppelin,

But lady Stoneheart doesn’t come till ages after the RW. Why would they have put her in the end of S3? They need to do all of the Nymeria dreams (probably just a few to cut down) and then comes the point where Lady Stoneheart kills the Frey.

  • Ionuts,

Natalia Tena had an interview a couple of weeks before filming began where she said she wasn’t called back for season 4. So no Osha this season.

  • People are still worried they’ll recast the Stark children? Do you actually think they’ll dare to do that when for the audience, Sophie, Maisie, and Isaac ARE Sansa, Arya and Bran? These characters made them famous and they made the characters known for many as well. So no matter how much they change, they aren’t going anywhere. Especially since their growth is not something extremely significant. Isaac will film his scenes standing down and they can alter his voice if they really have to. Maisie is still very petite and I don’t see her growing too much in the future and well chosen angles will hide anything that there is to hide and as for Sophie, she has looked the same for 2 seasons now and i don’t see the producers complaining. And can you honestly tell me you would rather see those 40 years old men hitting on someone who looks 10?

Speaking of 40 yo men, glad to see Aidan Gillen recovered from that terrible cold he had in S3. Now I can truly enjoy his speeches. His first line is obviously directed at Sansa (making us think he’s just doing it for lurrve), but the second one is a bit more threatening (that’s the bastard we all know) so he can’t be talking to Sansa since: 1. he’s not being creepy enough, 2. why would he ask her if she’s on his side when she doesn’t have other side to be on?, 3. it looks like he’s threatening someone so they won’t blow Sansa’s cover and subsequently ruin his plans. It’s not Lysa either, you’re never that hostile with crazy people. The person he’s talking to is wearing something beige like maesters do. Maybe he’s threatening the maester and ordering him to slowly poison Robin? If Lysa dies in ep 8 or 9 he can do that in ep 10, even if it seems too soon. Others story lines are moving fast as well.
Or maybe it’s Varys visiting the Eyre. We have to remember Varys knows LF was planning on leaving with Sansa in S3, so he has to figure out where she is when she escapes, unless they dumb him down all of the sudden.

Also, can’t wait to see the Jaime/Joffrey scene. Jaime has to see how much of an idiotic dick his son is, so the Goldenhand Hero won’t look like an asshole when he helps his son’s alleged murderers after he sees him choke to death in front of him.

  • DeadAntelope:

I don’t have my books at hand, so I may be wrong, but I think it’s barely 200 pages after.

EDIT : 341 pages according to the UK hard cover.

  • Dragonslayer,

It only counts if you refresh the page, not if you restart the video. So only a number of those would be you, rather than the hundreds of times that each of us researches it. 4.5 million is HUGE.

  • Red Hound,

LS reveal is the very last thing that takes place in ASOS (it was in the Epilogue from the Merrit Frey POV) and then she makes one more appearance through the end of ADWD. Showing her at the end of S3 and then just leaving that out there until Brienne meets up with her (presumably some time in S5) just would not have worked.

  • CT Wahoo:

But that’s kinda how it was in the book. I must admit that I was terribly disappointed that the last episode of the third season ended how it did and not with LS, although thinking about it now, it’s possible that it will work better by having it on the last episode of the 4th season. Is Thoros even going to be in the 4th season? Maybe we’ll skip directly to Brienne meeting LS? I’m curious about how it’s going to work, but I just hope it’s as shocking as it was in the book. Best epilogue ever…

  • I think the scene I’m most excited for is Tyrion absolutley eviscerating Jamie in the tunnels, which I assume will be one of the final scenes in the season. Let the hate flow through you, Peter Dinklage.

  • The best way to do Stoneheart, is, right before the final scene of the season, which NEEDS to be Stoneheart, have the “Only Cat” scene. And immediately after Littlefinger says “Only Cat”, and Lysa plummets to her death, the next scene is a Frey being shown on a noose, not hanged yet. Then the whole “she don’t speak, but she remembers” line or whatever. Then the Frey gets hanged. I have a feeling it’s going to be one of the 2 Freys that we saw meeting with Robb and friends in Riverrun. Then cut to Stoneheart. Cue shitstorm on the internet.

  • WeirwoodTreeHugger: Oberyn talks to Tyrion about Dany and her dragons when he’s imprisoned

If they do that then they’ll probably be cutting the Queenmaker storyline since Oberyn originally talks to Tyrion about crowning Myrcella instead, not that I’m complaining, there really isn’t enough screentime for Dorne in a 9hour season

  • Did anyone already do a scene by scene analysis of the trailer?? I do know the books, but many of the scenes are a mystery to me..

  • ebevan91,

That would be badass. I do think we’ll have Beric, Thoros and Anguy come across her body in the river some time earlier in the season, though. Beric and Thoros have a conversation around re-animating her with Thoros telling him he won’t do it and what it would do to Beric if he tried it, etc. I think there would need to be some bridge to your proposed scene, but that would be a great way to end S4.

  • Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t LS resurrected 3 days after the RW? I envisioned them adding show-exclusive scenes with her and the Brotherhood without Banners to keep the actors involved and active. A lot of people are vocal about preserving the book reveal, but I think that it’s already cheapened by the fact that we see Barristan drop the hood in his dramatic reveal. Since we aren’t bound to POV narration, I say the show should show.

My initial thought of the opening was that the shadow is wayyy too large to be Dany’s dragons, even if they are the size of small horses in this season. They would need to be impossibly high above the earth to cast a shadow that size. I still hope that they’re speeding up Bran’s storyline to use him for visions of past events so we get the visual exposition the show needs to tie some of these plots together. Things like the Targaryen Dynasty and the Rebellion. They have a tremendous opportunity to use Bran and his special abilities in the TV show that Martin has not done (yet?) in the novels.

I wouldn’t say season 3 was a letdown but it is my least favorite. It was still fantastic and it will hold a special place in my heart due to it being the only one in the series to showcase my favorite character in the show: Ed Skrein’s Daario. Normally I’m a stickler for such deviations in adaptations (physical appearance, personality, etc.) but I was a strong supporter of that change. I dislike the inconsistency of the role being given to a different actor and I wouldn’t have minded so much if they had at least tried to keep the physical look consistent. It’s really grinding my gears.

I’m really looking forward to what’s going on with Yara and Jaime looks fantastic! The Eyrie looks amazing! I think this season has potential for being my favorite.

“People love their king.” This doesn’t sound like Meryn to me. His voice is gruffer than that. I’m leaning toward Kevan but I can’t be sure. What does Roger Griffith’s voice sound like? That’s definitely not Davo’s voice.

My impression about Jorah is they they will try to keep him with Dany as long as possible in the show. The character disappears for a long period of time in the books and they need to have something for the actor to do. He will probably be dismissed shortly before Tyrion reaches Volantis, so he isn’t absent for an entire season. And regarding the events in Mereen, it may be possible for them to shift things around. Move some events forward and some back if need be.

Anyone else excited for the release of Season 3? One of the things that I’m eager for is seeing the menu montage. I guess I’m just weird because I have not seen anyone else bring this up. When season 2 was released I let that loop a number of times because it was so well done and I love Ramin Djawadi’s work on the show. My bet is that Season 3’s menu will use “A Lannister Always Pays His Debts” and begin at this point in the track:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXG0JB2KezQ#t=00m27s
The only other track from season 3 that I think would fit the menu would be “You Know Nothing” but I think the former relates more to the overall theme of the season.

  • Ser Tahu:
I like to think that is Ramsay and Locke, just because that would be an interesting conversation.

As for Donal Noye, here’s what I think will happen:
Alliser replaces Donal in telling Jon “the Wall is yours”
Grenn replaces Donal in fighting a giant and going out like a complete badass
    Then in season 5+
    Alliser takes Bowen Marsh’s role
    Locke takes Alliser’s role

This makes pragmatic sense of trading off certain tasks, without altering the character beyond recognition. It’s been long since postulated that the production may omit DN,
but to have AT suddenly morph into him would betray how different these two truly were. I’ll miss Donal Noye, though, not just for what he tells Jon, but for his fierceness as a one arm Brother in Black.

Good preview of what’s to come, though too short for slow minds. Good thing there will be more trailers coming !

    Hodor’s Bastard,

As if it were a Coen brothers’ template for style, of sorts. I’m definitely eager to see more. Both actors act finesse to their respective roles ( and on board as exec producers ).

  • You have to remember; the only indication of time passing in the show IS THE GROWTH of the younger actors. It actually helps illustrate how big the Seven Kingdoms are. There is nothing in any of their storylines that absolutely has to have them at a set younger age – nothing at all.

In fact, their stories are so brutal that it helps to have them aging.

  • Skyofwelkup: “People love their king.” This doesn’t sound like Meryn to me. His voice is gruffer than that. I’m leaning toward Kevan but I can’t be sure. What does Roger Griffith’s voice sound like? That’s definitely not Davo’s voice.

I thought it was Tywin, but after his little “Any man” speech last season to Joffrey, it doesn’t seem like something he would say.

  • ebevan91:

Having it right after “Only Cat” would certainly be lovely…or maybe “lovely” is not the right word to use here.

  • Red Hound,

Not true. Not if they are following the book timeline. Remember Storm of Swords was divided into seasons 3 AND 4, so if LS was at the very end of that book her reveal should come at the end of season 4. There was a ton of stuff that happened in between the RW and the Epilogue, almost half the dang book. You expected them to go from the RW in episode 9 to LS in episode 10?

    And yes, best Epilogue ever!

  • Rygar:
A golden hand but brown hair?Fuckers

NO JOKE. WTF ever happened to Lannister GOLD?????!!!!

BTW, the trailer looks amazing as we knew it would.

  • LOL Io9 has a spoiler free breakdown of the trailer and this was the caption under the
    Joffrey and Margaery wedding.

“Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding seems to be going a little bit better than Edmure Tully’s did last season.”

  • sati,

You remember last season in Episode 6 when the three-eyed crow flew over a modern-day city? Since that was in a trailer/teaser leading up to the season, it had to be used in an actual episode. Because every iota that is in a teaser or trailer HAS to be cut from the actual show.

  • axia777: NO JOKE. WTF ever happened to Lannister GOLD?????!!!!

I know, only Joffrey and Cersei have stayed blonde consistently, and even in season 1 Jaime’s hair was almost brunette. Tyrion’s was unbelievably blonde to start with, but now it’s chestnut brown. I was blonde until I was 8 and turned brunette, but the Lannister’s shouldn’t be doing so in their mid-thirties.

Edit: Oh, and Lancel, but what’s he doing now? Probably lying in bed, slowly turning into an 80-year old man.

  • Lef,

shame it’s ruined for everyone, it’d be the best way to get answers.

ps since the goatherd’s headgear(I don’t know what the proper name is) is green, and the man in the trailer’s appears to be cream and blue, it must be a different character? Could be Hizdahr, or maybe someone with a bald pate under there

and mr Mormont is to her left so I doubt it’s that scene

  • Lef:
    House Mormont,
Bryan Cogman was on Twitter at some point… but some ASOIAF “fans” just couldn’t behave so he understandably decided to leave.

Yeah, I know fan, especially book purists, reaction tend to bother the showrunners, but I wish that didn’t stop them from posting their thoughts about the show and fan ideas (no matter how zealous!) on a regular basis. We’re missing some really cool insight. :(

But I am quite thankful for this trailer though…and I really enjoy how it raises many questions and further stimulates online debate.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

I think Tywin’s is a bit deeper. This is a complete mystery to me. For all we know it may not even be a main character delivering that line.

    Greenjones,

Excellent point. I’m a great fan of that composition as well and I was sad that it did not make it into the actual show. Perhaps it will be utilized later on.

  • Johnny SD:
I believe that the dragon in the beginning may be part of a new opening sequence for the show.

No chance in hell. The current opening sequence is iconic at this point.

It is funny how you complain about the adaption, since Asoiaf isnt made to be adapted.

Haha, seriously? What a strawman. I didn’t knock on the acting in my comment, so it’s stupid and dishonest to pretend like I critcised that.

And GoT is an adaptation, whether or not it’s source material was made to be adapted or not and therefore it can be judged that way. And whether you like it or not season 3 made some horrible adaptation choices Theon tortured and badly executed some other Gendry-Edric change. The idea was great and the only one that made sense but the way they did it… Cock leeches? The fuck.

I felt the directing and, even more so, the writing was the worst in S3. Even with all the torture porn to satiate me.

  • Red Hound: Having it right after “Only Cat” would certainly be lovely…or maybe “lovely” is not the right word to use here.

Actually, isn’t “Only Cat” the last non-epilogue chapter of ASoS? If so, then that would be the perfect way to do it. Since it actually happened in that order in the book.

  • Hodor’s Bastard: Yeah, I know fan, especially book purists, reaction tend to bother the showrunners

Actually, the only thing that bothered him were the insults. ;)

He doesn’t mind the interaction with the fans, as seen with the “Ask a GOT writer” feature on this website.

    And yes, best Epilogue ever!

Really? This misinterpretation again? The folks who wanted an LS scene at the end of “Mhysa” (mother!!!!) didn’t want to see the ASoS epilogue at that point; rather, they wanted the actual Cat resurrection, which happened about 3 days after Cat’s murder! Please don’t confuse the two (the epilogue and the resurrection). I’m fine for the traditional Frey hanging/LS rage reveal epilogue in S4, but I’ve always stated how interesting it would have been had we got the Non-PoV resurrection with Nymeria/Beric/Thoros during the episode that was titled “Mother”.

Again, no joke. Why is it so hard to keep a hair color going? My daughter does it all the damn time. LOL

  • Lef: Actually, the only thing that bothered him were the insults.;)

It sort comes with the territory (especially when folks are arguing from their laptop, rather than in-person)…sci-fi/fantasy is serious fucking business! :)

I wish he would post on here more often, just for the reaction and subsequent discussion.

  • Lef,

True. I believe it was over Yara using “cunt” in dialogue that caused the insults toward BC and his departure.

  • Veltigar,

Both season 2 and season 3 were awful for Theon. They both started off great, but the first was rushed, and consequently the second was drawn out and had to have some hard to watch scenes. If season 2 ended with Winterfell surrounded, both seasons would have been better (for Bran too), but oh well, it’s in the past now, Theon is gone. Roll on Reek. It rhymes with weak.

    axia777,

because Diva Dinklage didn’t wanna be blonde

  • axia777: Again, no joke. Why is it so hard to keep a hair color going?

I liked that line better when you said “heir colour”. LOL :)

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I encourage you to put that fan version you made online somewhere ;)
I was actually considering doing that myself and editing in the “Dark Wings Dark Words” track for background music. It could be beautifully sad, or sadly beautiful.

  • KG: You have to remember; the only indication of time passing in the show IS THE GROWTH of the younger actors. It actually helps illustrate how big the Seven Kingdoms are. There is nothing in any of their storylines that absolutely has to have them at a set younger age – nothing at all.

In fact, their stories are so brutal that it helps to have them aging.

Well said! Better just to go with the aging process that try to write around it. It is what it is.

Valyrian Plastic: They’ve dressed him up so he can present himself to the Ironborn at Moat Cailin and catch the men off guard for the massacre. That seems the most plausible take on it, given the show’s thing for not doing flashbacks.

That makes sense since we typically don’t get flashbacks. Theon’s lack of visual transformation into Reek is what led me to think it was a flashback of some sort.

  • Skyofwelkup,

(ssshhh! …you just may get your wish….if you don’t mind a golden-doodle as Nymeria!…coming soon. Had some neighbor issues to get past!) :)

  • Concerning the dragon shadow over KL shot, it would hilarious if that was actually the last shot of the season for Dany’s arc. I can picture it now, Dany has chained up Rhaegal and Viserion and turns to Jorah, “where is my dragon, where is Drogon”, then we cut to the scene from the trailer, but longer, lol.

  • Veltigar: ….Cock leeches? The fuck.

But I wonder if the cock leech was the most effective, most proactive leech of all? Maybe it was the one that did King Robb and his army in!!! Its effect was immediate! Oh, oh, oh…Beware of cock leeches……THEY ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE WMD in Westeros!!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!

  • House Mormont,

I thought Theon’s Season 2 storyline was the highlight of the season, in spite of the strange ending. Nor did I particularly find it rushed, especially since Theon had the second most screentime of any character in Season 2. I certainly don’t see how you could call it awful.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

I wish Cogman would get back on Twitter. It was really interesting to read his fun facts etc after an episode aired, plus all the questions from fans.

I understand why he left though. A lot of immature shit from purists who had to complain about everything.

Bryan, if you’re reading this, please consider coming back for season 4!

  • Rygar,

You forgot to name drop Brother Mouzone during the premier of ‘True Detective’. How the hell could you miss that? Step up your game.

  • Tyrion Pimpslap,

TD is a going to be an awesome ride! Perfect time-filler between now and Apr 6. Wish we could have a TD forum here….have any good TD forums popped up yet?

  • cosca,

As an Unsullied watching for the first time, Theon mentioning to Dagmer (who is barely even established as a character in the show) that he has another plan… and then turning up in Bran’s bedroom like “oh btw i’ve taken your castle” made it feel rushed, and I couldn’t really take it seriously as a big change in the war.
And the scale never got any bigger, getting hit over the head in a comedy way after his speech was a bad low-scale conclusion to the low-scale version of his story
And the audience never got to empathise with Theon when he was at Pyke, I wish he got more exposition showing how confused and frustrated he was and how hard he was trying, because the one scene with Balon was overshadowed by him feeling up his sister and betraying Robb so easily
The Bran & Rickon “killing” was still shocking and amazing, I walked around the house crying and telling myself I’d never go back to this evil show for about twenty minutes before I started the next episode.

It had a lot of potential… but it just didn’t translate well in my humble opinion, it’s better after reading the books beforehand I guess

  • Sorry, but “The people love their king.” doesn’t sound at all like the actor who plays Kevan. It sounds like Dominic West, but that’s impossible, right? He already said no to Mance, and they wouldn’t still want to cast him and keep it a secret, right??????

Seriously, I keep trying to hear Kevan, but I can’t. But then, I’m usually wrong about most things, so move along….. I’m babbling.

  • Rygar,

    I get it.
But it is like a Kanye West situation, intentionally making bad material.
Torture porn was supposed to make us angry and bored. We sympathise with Theon, get to know Ramsay well, it is a creatively bold decision.
Maybe people think it is filler, so far so long i say. We dont know the significance of the scenes yet.
Nudity, yes. Violence, yes. But torture? Is that too far?
We can see Reeks storyline go from awful, decent, great over the course of three seasons.
Pretty groundbreaking in a way, not giving a shit about the audience frustrations and questions.

  • Rygar,

Yeah Selmy looks like a joke.

Actor who plays him needs to do some sit-ups. The character he is portraying is suppose to be a legendary warrior of Westeros. I understand he is old and no longer in his prime but that gut needs to go…

Being that out of shape would mean Selmy would be out of breath after swinging his sword for 5mins…

    Oh well…

  • House Mormont,

What about Rodrik’s execution, a moment left out of the books (well, implied anyway). But making it by Theon’s hand, that incredible score, and the butcher’s-mess he’d made, it was a standout moment of the invented-for-TV catalogue, for me at least. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one thinking deep-down as I watched it, “for gods sake, how many hacks do you need to make before it’ll come off!?”

  • Jentario:
    Ionuts,

Natalia Tena had an interview a couple of weeks before filming began where she said she wasn’t called back for season 4. So no Osha this season.

Thought I’d read otherwise, that she then left her band for a short period of time for something undisclosed…so who knows…?

  • Valyrian Plastic,

Ooh yes, that scene was great too, made even better by them using the same music as the mirror scene of Robb executing Karstark. I hope they make the triple with Janos Slynt

  • Moët:
Sorry, but “The people love their king.” doesn’t sound at all like the actor who plays Kevan. It sounds like Dominic West, but that’s impossible, right? He already said no to Mance, and they wouldn’t still want to cast him and keep it a secret, right??????

I believe it’s Meryn Trant. Click on “Meryn Trant Bronn scene” in Google and listen to his voice. It’s Ian Beattie; odd that such a minor character is part of the voiceover, but whatever.

  • House Mormont,

The one point I’ll agree with you on is the awkwardness of taking Winterfell. If I remember correctly, Theon says “I have a plan…” but then the actual taking of Winterfel doesn’t happen until the beginning of the next episode. The time gap there, I think, makes it unclear that taking Winterfell was such a big deal. And I would have liked to have actually seen them get into the castle, personally.

But overall I loved Theon’s arc, and in fact really appreciated the effort the show made in making Theon more sympathetic. The scenes between him and his father are powerful, and showing him struggle with the decision to betray Robb was the best way for them to allow for some sympathy. Much better than book!Theon, who didn’t show any sign of struggling with his decision to leave his friend to join his family in the war.

  • House Mormont,

Someone on YouTube said the main Stannis theme (Warrior of Light) would make an interesting choice for the “Edd, fetch me a block” scene, and I’m very tempted to agree with them, as it’s one of my favourites from the second season OST. “Pay the Iron Price” would be just as good though, now they’ve used it out of the context of Theon’s arc with Robb as you mentioned.

  • Lord Davos,

I don’t think you do get it. I never once complained about the torture scenes. I understand their significance and view them as necessity.

As a whole, the writing for S3 was weaker than previous seasons. I have no idea if additional straying from the source material had something to do with it. I would hope not, as I feel that GURMs story would benefit from grand deviation ahem dead bitches nodding . I just felt that it was sub par and far from the quality writing on other HBO shows.

  • Lord Davos:
    Rygar,

    I get it.

The strange thing is that you actually seem to be serious about this…

  • Arthur,

Give him a break, he’s what, 63 years old in the show canon? It’s a miracle he’s even alive at all, with medieval mortality rates being what they were!

Plus, he is on horseback half the time, and standing around for the rest of it. I was just hoping he’d be badass with a staff, but it seems he won’t be now his identity’s been revealed early.

  • Valyrian Plastic:
    Arthur,

Give him a break, he’s what, 63 years old in the show canon? It’s a miracle he’s even alive at all, with medieval mortality rates being what they were!

    We were both Joshing. Tayloring.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

just listened and you’re so right, starting with all the serious, sinister and sad undertones, and say if Jon says “No wait… Edd, Fetch me a block” at around two minutes in where it really explodes and get dramatic, it’d be great. Although his actions are a reaffirmation of him idolising and following Ned, so maybe a Stannis theme isn’t appropriate

    Hodor Targaryen,

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on him coming across sympathetic, I get the idea of what they were doing, but it just didn’t have enough screentime and exposition for it to work well. That’s why I think it should have ended earlier, so Theon could come across better and Bran could actually… do something, and so their stories this season weren’t so stretched

  • Rygar,

Maybe you just disagree with the direction Grrm is taking?
Book 4 and 5 is honestly more of the same, only that George took his sweet time to prank us all. Book 6 will probably turn this entire discussion over itself again, making people doubt the quality of the first three books.
I expect the Grrumblers to shut up by then.
I read somewhere that Elio stated the next books will reflect the first trilogy, so in my opinion Grrm is taking the most satisfying route possible.

  • Anyone else noticed that Jaime wrote about himself on the page he was on, just like in the book? I can make out Barristan Selmy, but can anyone make out the rest of it? I’m guessing it’s pretty close to the book version. Also, really cool that he has Oathkeeper on him, that handle is badass.

  • So the scene with the Viper in the throne room, maybe some exposition about Elia, Aegon and Rhaenys?

  • Bittersteel,

That would be amazing. I love how they just take the characters who never met up in the books and see them verbally spar with each other. Sometimes it feels like they put a handful of King’s Landing character names in a bag and draw any 2 at random and run with it, but Oberyn and Varys is a match made in heaven (or in the night lands, I don’t know). I bet the Red Viper won’t mock him for being a eunuch either, which will be a plus given the dearth of LF vs. Varys material quickly came to that easy target (no pun intended).

  • Bittersteel,

They will probably talk about the tragedy of it, they are two characters that are interesting together, they both loved the Targs, they both want revenge, they both want to cause as much chaos in the realm as possible, although it’ll be interesting if Varys lets on his intentions, as normally he pretends he just wants peace (to Ned, to Tyrion, to Shae, to Littlefinger.) And because of his sexual openness, the RV will join the long list of two characters that can talk to Varys without contempt.

  • jentario:
    facelessarya,
Either way, I agree such a scene would be amazing. Speculation time: I think Arya will meet Stoneheart(before or after getting her wolf pack) and will be the one to put her out of her misery, which is forshadowed by the Kindly Man’s story in the House of Black and White (where he tells Arya the story about the origins of the faceless men and he says they killed the man that pleaded for vengeance rather than the one he wanted dead- the gift of death). Either way, Stoneheart will have to leave her mark on the Freys and on Jamie/Brienne’s storyline before she goes out.

“If you think this has a happy ending, you havent been paying attention”

  • Tyrion’s and Jaime’s brown hair does seem strange, when we remember how king Robert was lamenting about being surrounded by golden haired Lannisters in season 1…

  • Lol, when people name their music uploads like this, then you know that a show is popular. Over 6 million views for the trailer, btw. That’s the best something about GoT ever did on youtube, isn’t it?

  • mariamb: Well said! Better just to go with the aging process that try to write around it. It is what it is.

That makes sense since we typically don’t get flashbacks. Theon’s lack of visual transformation into Reek is what led me to think it was a flashback of some sort.

Regarding the aging process, I think it’s best ignored. Women don’t gain a lot of height post age-16 (Sophie Turner is plenty tall already) and the one male, Isaac, spends his scenes lying on dirt or in a cart.

As for the Reek transformation, the idea that Theon would have his hair turn white always seemed off to me. But I agree that this looks like a “cleaned up” Theon, and I’m sure we’ll get plenty of shots of, or knowledge of, a badly injured foot after it had a giant corkscrew run through it, and at least 1 missing finger.

  • Abyss,

the season 3 trailer has over 21million, but it’s an unlisted video, so you can only see it if you’re linked to it, the opening sequence has 9million, i think this’ll become the most popular in time though

  • jentario,

Yeah I saw it after the editing timer ran out and realized I could have spoiled people a bit. I assumed that no one unsullied would care to travel so far down in the comments when mostly everything is in spoiler territory. I wouldn’t at least… Sorry, regardless. My mistake.

I would be very exciting if Arya did meet LS. Especially with her connection to “death” and the FM. I think she has to come face to face with one of her daughters at some point…

  • The Red Woman saying “there is only one hell” is most likely in response to something about seven hells. this should rule out almost all northerners, wildlings and iron born. most likely it’s Shireen .

    and oh yeah,
Why has no one mentioned Needle?

  • Valyrian Plastic: That would be amazing. I love how they just take the characters who never met up in the books and see them verbally spar with each other.

This. I believe it is one of the primary driving points of the showrunners – finding ways to make interesting, primary characters interact with each other more, and see what happens, thus leading to:

–Verbal sparring between Varys and Littlefinger, because of course

–The Arya/Tywin digression of Season 2, because Tywin + (anybody) is awesome, and Arya + (anybody) is awesome, equaling an Axis of Awesome (apologies to the band). Roose Bolton hadn’t been established yet as a character, and so giving more shading to Tywin was very important, as we see some of his weaknesses in both his devotion to and harsh assessment of his family, and his paternal nature toward Arya, who he regarded as a street girl who he didn’t have his hopes and fears vested in.

–Melisandre’s jet-pack trip to the Riverlands, because Arya + ____ is awesome generally, and seeing her tussle with Thoros of Myr was just fun; both are servants of the red god, but one has a much less serious approach to life.

–Davos and Gendry. Two of the most relaxed presences among the show’s actors, so why the F not?

–Varys and Lady Olenna because DUH.

–And of course the books already contained plenty of fodder for these existing conversations – Tyrion and Cersei, Sansa and Cersei, Brienne and Jaime, et cetera.

–So Oberyn and Varys? Of course awesome. Jaime and Joffrey? Of course you’d want to do that.

  • Jon Blackfyre,

Exactly. If that scene actually happens, it will be heart breaking from Arya’s POV. I can’t think of a better way for Stoneheart to die than at the hands of her own daughter. A tragic end to a tragic character.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

This! Thank you! I’m really so tired of this discussion and the explanations that actually don’t need to be made if people would read and not jump to say “Ahh, you are so silly, Lady S shouldn’t appear in S3 finale, because she didn’t appear in the books until the epilogue.” I know! I’ve read the damned books!! I just wanted to see the ACTUAL resurrection, that is just mentioned in the books, on my TV!!! *feeling relaxed now* no more discussion on this topic from me.

The trailer looks great!! But there are still 3 months to go… “Where’s the clock WiC?” asked SiC. well that sounds… ill.

Oh and I really like Pedro Pascal as Oberyn. He has something very appealing and something very dangerous in him. Another hit for the casting team I think.

  • Abyss:
    House Mormont,

Well, sure, there are videos which have more views by now, but I think nothing got more than 6 million views in under 24 hours.

Yep. Last year, the “Bones” trailer “only” got 4M views in 24hrs.

  • Wow. 6 million in 24 hours. GoT is just THAT huge now, isn’t it? To think that the season 2 trailer broke HBO records at the time… How many records did this one break?

It’s great to see good things being appreciated, it’s not always like this :)

  • Summer is Coming: I’m really so tired of this discussion and the explanations that actually don’t need to be made if people would read and not jump to say “Ahh, you are so silly, Lady S shouldn’t appear in S3 finale, because she didn’t appear in the books until the epilogue.” I know! I’ve read the damned books!! I just wanted to see the ACTUAL resurrection, that is just mentioned in the books, on my TV!!

Well, she should NOT have appeared in the S3 finale. Casual viewers (you know, 85% of the audience) should think she is dead, period. Frankly, i think she should just show up just like she did in the books as a serious “hook” for the S5. Show it in flashback then if it must be shown.

  • Jim,

I agree with Jim here. Showing her in season 3 would mean she won’t appear till the very end of season 4 and then again until the very end of season 5… That’s not great at all. Also, part of the punch of the reveal was how surprising and out-of-nowhere it was (on a first read, that is), seeing the resurrection as it happens would have removed the surprise element, and would have made Stoneheart seem like a normal resurrected Cat- which is cheap as fuck for the episode right after the Red Wedding. You need to establish that Stoneheart and Cat are two different entities, and that vengeance is the only thing that drives her, and the Epilogue does it perfectly while still keeping it a “YES!” moment. Showing off Stoneheart through Brienne’s AFFC arc would also be quite bad IMO since it would make her seem to much like a villain. I hope Stoneheart comes as a victim- a woman pushed to insanity by grief and tragedy, whose only real motivation is revenge.

  • tysnow,
I want Olenna Redwyne to be fake Arya, that would be quite the twist… Seriously, what is it with people wanting every female character even vaguely associated with the North to be fake Arya? Especially when it when it makes no sense for it to be that character? If the banners on the right are what you say they are, then it sounds like Roose already has his fake Arya.

    Tyrion Pimpslap,
Although I agree with you about your speculation (in fact I think Varys is also a Blackfyre. I think Aegon is Illyrio’s son by Serra, and Varys is her brother), I think that given his conversation with Illyrio in S1, Illyrio’s conversation with Tyrion in ADwD and the plan to wed Aegon to Daenerys, Varys almost certainly likes the Targaryens, or at least prefers them over the Baratheons and Lannisters enough to plot against them in favour of the Targaryens.

  • On the subject of Theon looking too clean and normal, I think that they showed us that particular shot of him to be purposefully misleading.

I think at the beginning of the season (or whenever they decide to start up that storyline), he will be full Reek and will be unclean and bestial, and maybe even longer-haired. They’ll only clean up as people have said for Moat Caillin or whatever the show equivalent for that will be.

Once more, there is no debating that the shot with the white flag is Theon now, because in his closer shot with his armour, he is also carrying a white flag and on horseback.

They included this shot, rather than him as a degraded Reek so that people would see it and say “Hurrah! Yara will succeed! His eyes look red-rimmed but at least he’s free from the evil clutches of Ramsay!” And then…that won’t happen.

  • SerCurlyOfTheFingers,

Doubt it’s Shireen. Her hair’s too long. It’s more likely to be Yara, as the hair length is the same (and the color too). Impossible to say for sure though.

As for the “hell” thing, it’s a pretty nice deduction, although not fool-proof. I think it means that most likely of all, the woman is not a named character and is instead someone about to be sacrificed.

  • Greenjones: Once more, there is no debating that the shot with the white flag is Theon now, because in his closer shot with his armour, he is also carrying a white flag and on horseback.

Lol, GIFted (yes, this word is a thing now) the hell out of the trailer and I didn’t notice this.

  • Great Trailer. What’s up with the dragon shadow over King’s Landing? Is this a flashback, a Bran vison, or Drogon sight seeing??? (Apologies if this has been discussed, don’t have time to read through every comment).

  • House Mormont,

Maybe that guy wasn’t actually the father but someone who witnesses it happen. The image we see at :32 shows a man standing before Dany with something wrapped up in his arms, I think it is pretty obvious that this is that scene.

  • The season 4 trailer hasn’t even been out for 24hours yet and it’s over 6mil?

Is that really a new record?

  • JamesL,

I’m not so sure, Jorah’s there and no Meereenese characters are there, it can’t be that far in, especially if this is supposed to happen on episode 10, unless they’re changing it a lotttt

  • Strong>GreatJon of Slumber,

See? You get me. I’m sure you were only trying to cut my meat.

    On LS…

They’ve been hushers about the BwB actors for this season, and we didn’t see or hear of Cat’s “burial” last season, so I think/hope we see Nym pull the body out, hear footsteps approach, then run off. We see some feet stop at the body, and cut scene. Then, last scene of the season, the reveal.

And on fArya…some of you seem to be forgetting the point of fArya. This was a Lannister trick, they are taking the Boltons for a ride to 1) conceal the fact they LOST Arya and 2) lull the Boltons and kneeling Northerners into a false sense of North security.

  • Ser Tahu,

If the banners on the right are what you say they are

If you watch the HD version on HBO site and freeze at that scene you can make out Stark, Bolton, Lannister banners on the right, there is a fourth but haven’t recognized it yet. You might be right concerning Arya, this meeting is after the PW and perhaps in the 2nd half of the season at that. The Stark banner would/could mean he has brought fake Arya along with him from KL, like in the books.

I am just so infatuated with Ms. Hope I am hoping she stays alive for a few seasons so I can hopefully glimpse her loveliness from April to June, each year. I can just wallpaper her image, but I think it is kinda creepy to wallpaper someone you don’t know. Which is why I just have friends, family and acquaintance on slideshow.

  • Abyss,

    Abyss,

No, I’m way off base here. I just took another look at 1.29, WTF was I thinking? Anyway, whatever it is, it’s still a cool snap. BTW your Mountain pose is awesome!

  • Ok I have almost read all the comments lol.

This trailer is awesome. I have never been more excited about a tv show. It took a long time to persuade myself not to stay up until 2am to watch it. Fucking ET. Fucking, you know, work and shit. Anyway! Finally caught up (watched it… a.. few times)..

I think it was House Mormont who said something about an Emmy for Lena Headey… Couldn’t agree MORE. She gets, like, NO LOVE. Unsullied hate her character, bookreaders don’t like how show Cersei has a bit of depth. I adore her. I love every moment of screentime she gets and cannot WAIT for this season. AND because the character has changed so much, as a bookreader, looking forward to all the changes and surprises. Although I am also in the disgusting club.

Everyone looks phenomenal though. Cannot wait. Best season ever. Countdown (kind of) begins!!

  • Taena,

definitely. Cersei is the Legolas of Game of Thrones, even when she’s in the background (most of Season 3), if you watch her scenes focusing only on her facial expressions, it’s so much better.

  • So I guess I’m the only one who thought there was something weird / creepy about Theon in this trailer. I get a reaalll creeped out vibe from that two seconds of footage… i don’t know.. I don’t think he looked like normal Theon completely

  • Ser Tahu:
    tysnow,
I want Olenna Redwyne to be fake Arya, that would be quite the twist… Seriously, what is it with people wanting every female character even vaguely associated with the North to be fake Arya? Especially when it when it makes no sense for it to be that character? If the banners on the right are what you say they are, then it sounds like Roose already has his fake Arya.

    .

Curious that if Roose has already made his way back to the North and is meeting with Ramsay in S4 as this scene would indicate, then book logic would say that Jenye Poole (or the equivalent character) would be with him from King’s Landing.

Yet there has not been one single cast announcement for S4 that would be a girl who could be used in this role.

Until I actually see something in the way of casting news on this show or in any footage released that indicates that they are going to pull a rabbit out of their hats with a plotline that should have been put in place way back in Season 1 and which the show has very clearly steered way clear of until now.

At this point, taking an existing character and having her serve some of the purpose that role requires seems to be the prudent action. Try not and let your emotions get the better of you and what you do and don’t want to see on the screen and simply look at the evidence that’s in front of all of us.

  • Greenjones,

I tried to read it, but I couldn’t make out much. What I got was

    Ser Jamie Lannister

    Squired for Barristan Selmy against
    [yada yada yada]
    Pardoned by King Robert Baratheon.
    [yada yada yada]

I have the feeling, the text is the same as in the books, but I’m not sure and I don’t have mine at hand.
Maybe someone is able to read more. Remember that you can zoom in by holding Strg and +. Back to normal with Strg and 0.

  • tysnow,
She is a good actress (and very pretty), I just don’t see her in that role. It doesn’t really make any sense for it to be her.

As for watching it in HD, my computer has been out of action for the last 1.5 weeks, so I haven’t been able to see the trailer in HD yet ;__;.

The thing I’m curious about is whether Roose going North this season rules out the possibility of him being at King’s Landing for the wedding. A scene between Roose and Tywin is too perfect for D&D to pass up, surely?

  • King Tommen,

Well, whatever they do I’ll just be glad to see a very sour Bolton family reunion. Not all the casting is revealed though of course, we may find a CV with a cast Jeyne Poole yet.

    Abyss,

This trailer had a lot of Jaime as a whitecloak, which should be really interesting to see. In that year-end HBO clip he looked so morose I had hoped he wouldn’t lose his characteristic arrogance and I’m glad that he is smug when he corrects Joffrey and receives Oathkeeper. Its good to have all the sides. The white book scene however is a good chance to have him more somber and reflective and whatnot.

  • tysnow,

I’ve looked at the stills and have seen no sign of him. I hope to God that he is there, given the great potential interactions between characters, but unless someone shows a still where he is entirely visible, I’d doubt its the case.

  • tysnow:
    Ser Tahu,
Roose is in KL for the wedding, you can see him in one of the wedding snippets on the trailer.

You have better eyes than me, I guess. I’m not convinced, although as we have previously discussed to extent, the Roose loose in KL would have interesting ramifications.

  • Abyss,

Stunning pic. I guess Roose would be the one dashing from an area off camera to the foreground repeatedly. That’s probably the reason why we don’t see him. :)

I wonder if there is a “no chain mail” policy for the PW?

  • Carne:
Saw this posted over at Westeros, so don’t except more Stannis than what we got in season 3.

I think given where Season 3 ended off in Stannis’ story and the next time you are supposed to see him, it would be a pretty big surprise if he had more to do in S4 than he did in S3. If we were going strictly by book material, the guy wouldn’t show up until the very end of E9 and then in a few scenes in E10. I’m sure they’ll have more for him to do than that however.

  • Abyss,

On the far left of the Lannister side, kind of isolated and near the back, by the right foot of the elevated guard on the left, one of them kind of looks like him. But, hum, he’d probably have his wife with him, so I don’t know. Is Oberyn even in that shot? I can’t pick him out either.

  • Moët:
    That’s not Mereen. It’s King’s Landing.

No reason Drogon can’t fly over KL at some point.

In broad daylight? Without being seen? Over a city of a half million people?

  • I only watched ONCE, and I’m done.

I know it’s hard, but if you avoid endless trailer rewatches, the season is so much better.

  • Does anyone know if they cast Bowen Marsh Noye or Cold Hands I guess you could get around using Noye or Cold Hands but Marsh really needs to have a story line soon

  • I believe the best way to LS appear is in the finale of S5
Did the show established that the Iron Man have conquered Moat Cailin? If no it can show Yara conquering it (or just passing by, in a faster way to go to Dreadford), but a certain raven appears, making her return to the Iron Islands and leaving her men in the castle. In a climax moment of almost brothers reunion, Theon appears and Ramsay betrays Yara’s men. I think it should work, considering that Yara was on a lake at Moat Cailin in the trailer.

  • House Mormont,

That’s like saying the Purple Wedding can’t happen because Jaime and Brienne are in Kings Landing. This is D&D version of the story, they have changed plenty and the longer the show goes on the more alterations they make. No one said this scene was supposed to happen in episode 10, I think this scene will occur towards the beginning of the season despite the fact that it doesn’t happen until ADWD.

  • sooo…

    1) Arya and the Hound meet some lannister soldiers and Polliver at the Inn.
    2) Fight. Polliver is wounded
    3) Polliver il lying on the ground. He beg for mercy (and water, and stuff).
    4) Arya goes to him with a sweet face, she pretends to help him, and she kills him putting needle through his throat, just like he did with Lommy.

that’s how they probably will adapt the “Tickler” scene, right? i mean, i don’t see many other possibilities..

  • As for the girl / woman Mel is talking to…
Could it be the daughter of the blasphemous lord who gets burned alive?
I recall one of the tree clearly resembling a woman in those leaked pictures a while back. Could be a featured extra perhaps? It doesnt look like Shireen and what in seven hells would yara do there?!

  • House Mormont,

It might well happen in ep. eight. And I’m pretty sure that leaked set pic of a whiteboard with Split shooting info written on it said something about “Jorah packing bags.” I could be wrong though.

    dogs,

You’d think the Warden of the North would be schmoozing with the other important folks! If he’s there wouldn’t he be more visible?

  • Okay I got to say it even though some will say its far fetched and poke fun of me because I’m a gamer and like warriors with muscles and all that other stuff…

This video game trailer is so badass and I watched it so many times when it first came out and even linked it on this site.

This guy just reeks badass and how I’ve always pictured the Red Viper… And in this little game trailer he has an open robe and walks by a candle and puts his finger through it… JUST LIKE THE RED VIPER IN THE TRAILER…

I mean there’s a quick scene of the Red Viper walking in a room and I swear something snapped in me and I just now remembered this CGI game trailer…

    You can’t say it’s not similar…

    http://youtu.be/gKsEPoJMuKY

I can’t wait to see the RV this season…

  • Bobby:

I’m still hoping that CH will be the big reveal at or near Craster’s Keep, but the presence of Jon and other NWs at CK might dissolve that theory. I’m a bit worried.

  • Taena: I think it was House Mormont who said something about an Emmy for Lena Headey… Couldn’t agree MORE.

Amen. I don’t agree that Lena gets NO love, but if I were to make a list of “Most Indispensable Actors on GoT,” starting from “If They Quit, We Cancel the Show,” down through “Spinal Tap Drummer: GoT Edition” (obviously, that’s Gregor Clegane), I think I’d put Headey second only to Dinklage. She’s fantastic. She owns the role, and seasons 4 and 5 for her are going to be epic.

Randa: They’ve been hushers about the BwB actors for this season, and we didn’t see or hear of Cat’s “burial” last season, so I think/hope we see Nym pull the body out, hear footsteps approach, then run off. We see some feet stop at the body, and cut scene. Then, last scene of the season, the reveal.

I don’t think we necessarily need to see this, but I’m definitely a big fan of the “keep some actors’ names hush-hush as a surprise for later.” We didn’t know we were going to see Peter Vaughn or Patrick Malahide in Mhysa, for instance.

King Tommen: Until I actually see something in the way of casting news on this show or in any footage released that indicates that they are going to pull a rabbit out of their hats with a plotline that should have been put in place way back in Season 1 and which the show has very clearly steered way clear of until now.

Well, the plotline doesn’t really even exist until it’s first mentioned when fake Arya shows up. Sure, Jeyne Poole existed, yes, but she was so minor as a character it’s as if she didn’t exist. So who cares who they add in? Whatever.

  • Greatjon of Slumber: She’s fantastic. She owns the role, and seasons 4 and 5 for her are going to be epic.

Agreed…the Queen Regent’s spiral into madness should be remarkable to witness in S4 and especially in S5. So many dark journeys await us.

Personally, I can’t wait to see Cersei sitting tolerantly by Tommen as he plays with his kittens, with her grasp of reality fading….

  • Hodor’s Bastard: I’m still hoping that CH will be the big reveal at or near Craster’s Keep, but the presence of Jon and other NWs at CK might dissolve that theory. I’m a bit worried.

its looking less and less likely. with the hush hush around Mr. Joe Gatt and after seeing this image of him in makeup (http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BNjIyNzMxMTg0M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTA3ODExNg@@._V1._SX640_SY799_.jpg from Thor) I was convinced the Thenn thing was a red-herring and he was indeed our CH… but this trailer and snippets of NW at crasters have severely raised my level of doubt

  • additionally, i think it would be pretty strange for them to admit / confirm the Leaf and Three-eyed raven castings but to keep CH on major hush hush… if anything the Three-eyed raven is ten times the spoiler character. I am guessing no CH for realzies

  • King Tommen: Curious that if Roose has already made his way back to the North and is meeting with Ramsay in S4 as this scene would indicate, then book logic would say that Jenye Poole (or the equivalent character) would be with him from King’s Landing.

At this point, taking an existing character and having her serve some of the purpose that role requires seems to be the prudent action.Try not and let your emotions get the better of you and what you do and don’t want to see on the screen and simply look at the evidence that’s in front of all of us.

Maybe, but it’d be easier to just cast someone new. Add in a line from Theon to the effect of “I remember you, you used to live at Winterfell.” It doesn’t even have to be Sansa’s friend, as long as Theon recognises her.

Setting that plotline in motion in S1 would have meant casting someone for about 5 minutes of screen time, mostly in the background (a child, who would’ve grown so much as to be even less recognisable to casual viewers) who then was off the payroll for 4 years. Not worth it.

I could be wrong, but I’d put money on it being a new casting when it gets there. I guess we’ll find out.

  • Even though Reek doesn’t have the same physical traits as the book Reek I do see something different about him. He looks thinner, eyes look a little red and baggy, and he’s definitely paler. His facial expression also gives off that mentally broken look. Hopefully this is the clean up look and we’ll see a more book like appearance in the beginning of the season.

  • GeekFurious,

That was the issue for both Season 2 and Season 3 trailers? :S

I see other shows keeping their trailers up that have another band’s music on them, but they continue to stay up years later. HBO, as a powerful station certainly shouldn’t have these problems.

  • Greenjones,
Can anyone post a link to that whiteboard pic? I am struggling to find it…

Concerning Jorah, (and Daenerys’ storyline in general): I’m fairly certain that is the Drogon killing a child reveal scene that Jorah is there for, and I think it is a given that scene is in the finale. So I think that they are swapping the chronology of the dragons losing control and the increasing tensions with Jorah. By bringing the dragon stuff forward they can save money on cgi in S5 that can then be diverted to the increased cast size and the big, expensive events (the fighting pits being a lock for a huge spectacle in S5. The Kingsmoot (with or without YarAsha) could be a bit of a spectacle depending on what they do with it. They might show the assault on Dragonstone or Hardhome, both of which would be expensive. And, of course, there is also the possibility of the battle of ice being brought forward (although I like to think they won’t rush through the North stuff just to have a battle in S5)). Also, it means that Jorah will be more of a presence in S5. Instead of being absent for most of the season, he could be around for the first half, get banished somewhere in the mid season and then arrest Tyrion near the end. Maybe they will use Jorah as a way to add drama while Hizdahr is stopping the assassinations. He could then react badly to Daenerys agreeing to marry Hizdahr, causing her to banish him. Remember Daenerys telling Jorah in S2 that he doesn’t want her to trust anyone but him? Perhaps he will insist (quite rightly) that Hizdahr isn’t trustworthy. Speculation aside, I don’t think that him being present during the goat farmer scene is too big a change in the grand scheme of things.

  • now that Jon is the one sent to kill off the mutineers at crasters I beleive coldhands will show up at the abandoned village, there Bran & Co. Will be surrounded by the whits and he will save the day.
    1. I don’t think they’d cast an actor to play him, if they do decide to put him in the show it’ll be Ian Whyte playing him, since his face will be covered they can dub in a voice.
    2. Having Bran at crasters keep and Jon showing up would mean another almost Jon/Bran pathcrossing, which frankly I don’t think they’d do that.
    3. It creates more plots for Jon to handle the traitors and more plot for Bran to appear hopeless around a group of Whits.

  • Anyone notice how that one iron born behind YarAsha wasn’t wearing a helmet? Could he be of some significance? Qarl the Maid or Tristopher Botly?

  • Joejoe,

There is no need for a CH casting. If he’ll appear, he’ll likely be played by the people who play the monsters/creatures in the show- as in, Ian Whyte (he played the Giant and a White Walker, aside from Greggy Cleggs in season 2). There’d be no reason to cast another actor to play CH, who has like 3 lines in the books and all he really does is look awesome. I wouldn’t rule it out just yet, especially since Bran has nothing to work with this season without CH. We do know that the Bloodraven is either in episode 8, 10 or both because his CV has Alex Graves on it (IIRC). Either way, how would Bran and co even find the cave without CH?

  • House de Laguna,

It’s entirely possible. She definitely needs someone to talk to, or it will be a very silent number of scenes with Yara. It could easily be Tristifer or Qarl from the books, because why not?

  • Ser Tahu,

If the fighting pits are in season5, then the dragons must be a lot bigger than the last season. It will be weird if they are the same size this season and a year later they’re big enough for daenerys to ride

The disappointment with this trailer is that we still don’t know about the dragons’ size. They’d normally hurry to show how big they’ve become

  • Greenjones:
    Carne,

https://twitter.com/Kerry_Ingram It takes too long to scroll through pictures but I saw one photo where she had that braid. I think you’re right that its Shireen, though that’s very bitchy of Melisadre to give a kid that kind of attitude. I hope Stannis rebukes her.

Have to go soon, been naughty so I have to leave my phone downstairs after 8:30

Somehow I pictured Stannis telling her this…

  • dragonreborn: The disappointment with this trailer is that we still don’t know about the dragons’ size. They’d normally hurry to show how big they’ve become

CGI takes time. They probably haven’t anything dragon-related to show at this point.

  • Greenjones,
Although it’s hard to make out on my phone, I think you are right about what it says. Interesting…

    dragonreborn,
The dragons are almost certainly going to be significantly bigger this year than last year. And if Drogon is gone by the end of the season, then I think it is entirely possible that he will be rideable by, say, 5×09 :P.

  • House de Laguna,

they didn’t introduce cold hands last season, when he was supposed to meet sam and gilly I have a guess that maybe bejein stark sry for misspell might take coldhands role.

  • Arthur:
    Rygar,

Yeah Selmy looks like a joke.

Actor who plays him needs to do some sit-ups.The character he is portraying is suppose to be a legendary warrior of Westeros.I understand he is old and no longer in his prime but that gut needs to go…

Being that out of shape would mean Selmy would be out of breath after swinging his sword for 5mins…

    Oh well…

Medieval swordfighting is 100% about technique and 0% about strenght.

Fighting a melee in a battle is a combination of experience, technique and stamina in that order

Being in shape or out of it (ie. having the necessary stamina) has nothing to do with “doing sit-ups”…Eddie Izzard had a very prominent belly when he completed 43 marathons in 51 days.

And for your information, all the fights in the show are 0% realistic. It’s called stage fighting and it’s supposed to be fun and spectacular, but not realistic. You can easily tell because they aim for the other guy sword, not his head/arms/torso. I think they could improve a bit in that area though

  • dragonreborn,

Drogon is supposed to be surprisingly huge when he arrives at the fighting pits, and significantly bigger than his brothers. They are supposed to be smaller than horses, but when Drogon returns (after chomping on many wild animals and not being restrained in a small room) he was at least 1.5 times bigger than his brothers. I think he’ll need a unique model going into season 5 if it’s going to be as big a moment as it was in the books.

  • It has taken me TWO DAYS to realise it says APRIL at the end of the trailer!! SO BUSY watching I didn’t READ!!

    Oh dear.. lmao..

  • Greenjones,

Most of the first 2 rows on the King’s side (where Bolton would be) are completely obscured by the decorative half-wall to the left of the picture. He’s probably in there, just not visible in that shot.

  • Yeah I’ve been following the the trailer views as well. It is interesting, because the numbers are incredible. As much as people worried the Red Wedding would drive off newbies, anticipation of the show is as strong as ever.

  • Ours is the Fury,

The Red Wedding left such a huge mark on the internet that there was hardly anyone I know that didn’t hear about it. As this trailer proves, the Red Wedding EARNED the show more people than it lost. If these numbers in any way indicate the viewer count of season 4, this show will never get cancelled. And might we actually be close to another budget increase? That could help season 5 a lot :)

  • Pretty concerned with the way HBO is going with Theon’s story. It looks like they are advancing his story quite rapidly.

  • Jentario:
    dragonreborn,
Drogon is supposed to be surprisingly huge when he arrives at the fighting pits, and significantly bigger than his brothers.

I believe Drogon will eventually grow to be the next Vhagar, who was the size of a hockey rink.

    Interesting quote from TP&tQ:
“On the fourteenth day of the prince’s vigil, a shadow swept over the castle, blacker than any passing cloud. All the birds of the godswood took to the air in fright, and a hot wind whipped the fallen leaves across the yard. Vhagar had come at last, and on her back rode the one-eyed prince Aemond Targaryen, clad in night-black armor chased with gold.”

Although that is not Meereen in the trailer, I would expect a few dragon shadow crossings over Meereen in S4 and S5.

  • Jentario,

Pretty convinced at this point he’s not in. Bran’s supposed to get captured at Craster’s or something, and then Jon saves him, or they just miss him. In the shot of him touching the tree, Hodor and him have wildling furs on, which they must have gotten at/after Craster’s. Someone/Something maybe tips him off about using the trees to communicate with the Three Eyed Raven, and doing so, Bran greensees the way to the cave. Alternatively, some ravens lead them around, hopping from branch to branch. Bran seems to have lots to do, with Craster’s, wights, dreams, and the cave. The child of the forest girl was set for an Alex Graves episode, whilst I’m pretty sure the Three Eyed Raven was in “Various,” which should mean one or two dream appearances besides his physical appearance. At this point in the story I actually feel Coldhands is kind of redundant, since half of his role is already gone.

  • Hodor’s Bastard: I believe Drogon will eventually grow to be the next Vhagar, who was the size of a hockey rink.

Hmm, I don’t know, Vhagar was about 200 years old at the time. If they make Drogon a lot bigger than he should be then they should make him as big as Balerion who was the biggest dragon we know of. If you go all out, you should go all out. + Drogon is basically Balerion the Black Dread come again since he’s a black dragon and the biggest of three.

  • dogs,

Where has it been confirmed that Bran will be at Craster’s? I thought that was just assumed by fans since we knew there was going to be a fight at Craster’s Keep this season, and there was no reason to believe (at that point) that Jon would attack the mutineers (since we thought he’d have his hands full with Wildlings before we knew both battles at the Wall will be in episode 9. I doubt the show will have Bran and Jon in a near miss again, and I doubt we’ll see Bran at Craster’s. Which leads me to believe that Bran and co will get ambushed by wights and saved by Coldhands, similar to Sam’s scene in the books. but I don’t know, maybe he was cut after all. I don’t see why D&D would do that, though.

  • I would bet anything that they don’t cut Coldhands. He’s just too awesome and mysterious to cut out of the show.

  • Veltigar,

    We can only hope…feeeeeeeeeeed him!

Am I the only unsympathetic muffinman who doesn’t find the goatherd story sad/troubling? When ya got dragons, that sort of stuff comes with the territory. Should be a hell of a lot more casualties to come, my friends. Deal with your heritage, Dany!

  • My computer is being too slow to scroll through.
Are we assuming that the guy in the alley is being attacked by Sons of the Harpy?

  • Clob:
My computer is being too slow to scroll through.
Are we assuming that the guy in the alley is being attacked by Sons of the Harpy?

Probably not. As others have stated it is probably slaves killing slavers.

  • Hodor’s Bastard:

No, your not the only one. Personally, I’m not even sure that Drogon was really responsible. The Sons could have easily provoked him or just burned the girl themselves. Even if Drogon did it, it must have been unintentional. From what we see in tPatQ and ASOIAF dragons don’t seem to attack people unless ordered or provoked

  • D & D have said this season starts very quickly on the action front. This trailer is absolutely packed with compelling story lines from the wall to slavers bay. if they are gonna put that all into this season its gonna be a sprint from start to finish. Gonna be hard to top in season 5

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

He came in there with a bunch of armored men, and tried talking sense to a couple of dragons. He almost got one to listen to him, but the other one wasn’t too happy. They should have tried separating the dragons. Damn it, Quentyn! I believed in you!

  • I was hoping that the crows would just flock into a big group shaping out a man and than disperse and Coldhands would be standing there, at least I thought that when all those damn crows were following Sam and Gilly. Benjen would be cool for Coldhands since he’s already a theory in the books but the actor has been gone since season 1 are we sure he’d come back?

  • Jenna:
People are still worried they’ll recast the Stark children?

    (…)

Also, can’t wait to see the Jaime/Joffrey scene. Jaime has to see how much of an idiotic dick his son is, so the Goldenhand Hero won’t look like an asshole when he helps his son’s alleged murderers after he sees him choke to death in front of him.

Sansa is supposed to look tall and older than her age in the books, too. She’s supposed to be noticeably taller at 13 than her aunt was at 21, and she’s also supposed to look quite mature and ‘womanly’, which is why all those older men have such reactions to her. I don’t think they’re supposed to be paedophiles – Tyrion, for instance, is typically attracted to every good-looking woman regardless of age, but would be unlikely to feel any attraction to someone who looks like a child.

And Arya, as already pointed out, is not pretending to be a boy anymore, and could look like a teenage girl. Even in the books, where she’s 2 years younger than on the show (11 at this point), nobody in Braavos mistakes her for a boy, and the Kindly Man talks of her as a pretty girl, who could choose to be a beautiful courtesan if she wanted.

I always thought that GRRM was primarily talking about Bran when he said he made the kids too young. Bran really comes off as way too mature in the book for someone aged 7 in AGOT. So this works out well enough, too. And I don’t see why Hodor couldn’t convincingly carry him – he’s a big guy, and Isaac is not Mountain-size, is he?

As for Jaime, I wonder if they’ll feature the scene between Jaime and Tommen, where Tommen reveals that he had been emotionally and possibly sexually abused by Joffrey, before Jaime sends Brienne on the mission. That would certainly additionally justify Jaime’s contempt for his own son Joffrey.

Ugh, I hope not. I’m sick and tired of the show whitewashing Jorah and portraying him as some sort of a super-noble, super-wise guy, rather than the clingy, possessive slaver he is in the books. I really don’t need the show to portray Dany as an ungrateful fool so Jorah would look awesome and become the Nice Guy (TM) woobie of the fandom.

  • Annara Snow,

The problem is Iain Glen is far too cool for Jorah. He could recite the alphabet and still sound both wise and badass.

    A for Aerys Targaryen
    B for Barristan the Bold

    K for Khaleesi

    KHALEESI!!!

It wouldn’t have bothered me 5 years ago but now I have kids I really hate any storylines involving children coming to harm or dying. And unfortunately in ASOIAF, there’s lots of that (I can understand why – there’s a lot of that in life too sadly). Janos Slynt killing the baby in season 2 really got to me, and the image in this trailer of Rast placing the little baby in the snow is completely heart-breaking :-(

  • Jentario,

    Ours is the Fury,

    Jentario:

It’s going to take a lot to hurt the ratings of this show. And if the early signals we’re getting from the showrunners through this trailer are correct, they’re shifting some of the next 2 books into this season, preparing for what I assume will be the bulk of the action from the next 2 books into Season 5. While I’m harder-pressed to come up with “OMG AWESOME” moments for the *middle* of that season, it certainly will still pack enough of a punch at the end. I foresee very little in the way of problems for Season 5.

    Butterbumps,

Yes. But sadly, I doubt we’ll see the Elk. Maybe it’ll get replaced by an extra big horse? I just hope CH doesn’t just walk around.

I doubt we get the Elk also. It’s a needless CGI expense when you can easily use a horse.

  • Joejoe:
additionally, i think it would be pretty strange for them to admit / confirm the Leaf and Three-eyed raven castings but to keep CH on major hush hush… if anything the Three-eyed raven is ten times the spoiler character.I am guessing no CH for realzies

That’s a missed opportunity for Bran’s story. Big time.

  • Looks very promising. Lots to look forward to. Looking froward to some interesting deviations from the books as per previous seasons.

  • Jentario:
    Valaquen,

It’s more like a day and a half now, isn’t it?

Yeah but you’re also seeing the views delayed by YouTube as they verify the count. When dealing with huge numbers, it is delayed by several hours, sometimes tens of hours.

  • Annara Snow: Ugh, I hope not.

You can’t wait for Jorah’s dark journey to the Volantis whorehouse, can you, Ms. Snow? Me too. :)

    – Where’s the awkward, desperate kiss?

    – Will Selmy rat him out as a (former) spy?

    – Why, oh why didn’t they introduce Daario properly (at the beginning of S4, after Yunkai) so as not to have recasting issues? Now Jorah has two other meatheads competing for his Dany lust time. Which one will be the espouser of greater wisdom this season?

    – When will Dany banish Jorah then, which is a reaction that Daario does not support?

Tear down the whitewashed Jorah! Tear down the Jorah! This season you will smile….eventually.

  • Rygar,

I liked season 3 better on rewatching,
but then again thats just brainwashing,
wanting to like something really hard.
    Thats how the fanboys came.

  • I watched the first season before reading the books and started reading during the second season. so my views on characters might be askewed by that, but with that said I always thought Jorah was one of the closest character book to show. Hes deffinatly probably more handsome in show then in the books. But i read Jorah mostly as a good guy and he has a lot of book quotes. Probably more then most other characters. Hes only really ever a dick when talking about Ned even though he regrets and feels guilty for what he did to get exhiled. I think Jorahs a pretty good guy who is loyal to a fault.

As for the there looks. I never thought Jorah was as ugly as Dany thinks because that coming from the mind of a 13 year old. just like I dont think Tyrion is as ugly as it is made out to be by a 12 year old Sansa Stark who doesnt even think Berric Dondarian is Good looking even though we hear he is by other characters. I never liked how people see Peter being to good looking to play Tyrion. I think in that type of society being a dwarf is looked at as being monsterous and ugly. His ugliest traits are mismatched eye then no nose. the no nose would be quite ugly but before that I picture him not being as ugly some think tyrion is.

  • Lord Davos,

I liked the fifth very much on my first read. The fourth was… hard. Especially the first half. But when you do (eventually) get used to it, it becomes really good.

Funny, I don’t see him as super-noble and I definitely see him as clingy. His scene near the end of Season 2 with Dany where she tells him he “forgets himself,” and his pleading to her show he’s definitely obsessed with Dany, as well as his crestfallen face when they return from the battle at Yunkai and her first words are to ask after Daario Naharis. The clingy nature is all there, if not as much possessiveness.

These things need to build steadily (same as they’re doing with the Tyrion/Shae rift) and if they’re going to send him off in Season 5, which is a good character beat to leave till Season 5 as it enlivens Danys storyline in Meereen a bit (and a good way to close an early Season 5 episode), it gives them ample time to continue to ratchet up the tension there, as I’m sure they will in Season 4. You may be overstating Jorah’s sage-like nature by the fact that he has a couple of great lines that made for great trailer fodder, including this year’s, and last year’s “there’s a beast in every man.”

The desperate kiss may come yet. We shall see
    . “Early days, my friend.”

  • Bard: If they are well-fed…

Which begs the question why? Humans are scrawny. A hungry dragon’s going to go after something bigger. Even an adolescent like Drogon.

  • I think the opening scene of the season needs to be a flashback to the Sack of king’s landing. That shot of the mountain clearly isn’t from the duel yet it looks like king’s landing, so maybe. They need to show him murdering two children and Elia to establish what a monster he is. They also need to do this to make sure “You raped her. You murdered her. You killed her children.” will have as much dramatic impact as it did in the books. Yara and Stannis are going to be on the same body of water at the same time…. just saying. That first shot is clearly King’s Landing. The first voice sounds like Meryn Trant to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nleCR9XOBNM

But…he must be sent away by the the end S4! He needs the offseason to travel to Volantis to mope and grope!

In Essos? What do you suggest? A Harpy? A Sandworm? Maybe a whale or a krakken in Slaver’s Bay?

Some would say horses in Essos are just as valuable as humans, so they might just feed them the bad guys – slavers, etc., and sheep…lots and lots of sheep.

The economics of feeding dragons is not pretty.

  • Jim,

First of all, spoilers! Secondly, what’s more weird is that Drogon just burned her. He didn’t eat her. If he would have eaten her, you’d need to dig knee deep into dragon dung to find any bones.

Spoilers for discussing what a dragon would eat? Where’s the spoiler?

Value means nothing to a dragon. Size would mean everything. I really doubt Humans, Horses, and sheep are the only living things in Essos. If there are no Aurochs then Elephants, Oruks, Cows.

Under normal circumstances a human has very little to fear from a real world lion in the wild. They just aren’t interested in you unless there is no other food source or they are injured. In the first century the Romans had to practically jump through hoops to get the lions to eat anyone in the arena, starve them, smear the accused with blood… and the lion usually just say down anyway. A Dragon that isn’t being fed is going to look for it’s own food. And, like any other predetor, it’s going to look for something worth it’s time. Humans don’t have much meat on them compared to even a dairy cow much less a wildebeast. If Drogon ate that little girl he was probably not very big yet. Look at the meal he grabbed in the Dothraki sea… not a human.

  • GUYS IF YOU TURN CAPTIONS ON WHILE WATCHING THE TRAILER, WHEN THEON COMES ON IT SAYS “SPERM HELP”… YOUTUBE YOU MESSED UP

    JamesL,

Well if a scene that teases and builds excitement for a dispensable plotline is replaced, it makes it more likely that the dispensable plotline will be cut. Logic.

Unless said scene is modified to accommodate the earlier material.
