The North Remembers: January 2011

WiCnet Alternate LogoThis time three years ago it was clear that we have entered The Year of The Premiere. Let me walk you through the exciting itinerary of that January. The Television Critics Association winter tour was the big event to kick the year off, and Winter is Coming and FaBio were both in attendance, meeting for the first time (the universe did not collapse).

Hear Me Roar: Oh, the memories. Such exciting days … I am feeling more than a little nostalgic right now.

  • Sorry for double posting this but perhaps it’s more appropriate here in the nostalgia thread. ES is back! Josh Parker should be proud!

  • got official vine account sent a vine of arya today but it is nothing more than what we have already seen in the trailer

  • Reading the GRRM breakfast post now, it’s such fun :D.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I really enjoy the ‘The North Remembers’ posts, keep em coming :)

  • Will we have a Bryan Cogman interview this year? I sure hope so. Got plenty of questions that need answers.

  • Arya footage :) Her and needle reunited at last practicing their water dance!

I love the North Remembers, brings me back and I always end up smiling like an idiot.

  • Those promo pics are cool. I also love these north remembers posts… Shows how far things have come, and cool to see the excitement building

  • Something that HMR didn’t mention (perhaps intentionally) is the article about the GoT gay perspective that was published 3 years ago. I find it interesting that the “gay debate” was just as heated back then as it is now….although I do believe it is much more informed and somewhat more robust (given events from S1-S3) than it was back then. In any case, for those who think the discussions were any better or worse or more enjoyable, I dare say you are full of dragon shit. The song remains the same. :)

    Let’s reminisce together…

(some of us had different monikers back then as well…)

  • dizzy,
Hopefully, there will be another World Cup post within this space in the next few months for a hearty international debate!

[Germany/Portugal/US/Ghana – Group of fucking death!]

    Patchy Face,

*Raises hand* Yeah, Where did all those people go?

World Cup thread, yes! Can’t wait to do that again later this year.

Also, look at me predicting Spain and the Netherlands as two of the top teams going into the tournament. Of course, I also mentioned England in the same breath, but we’ll just ignore that part!

  • First time I saw the trailer on HBO I went OMG, I am so going to geek out on this series. Got the first book, read it in a week. Saw the first episode and they showed it: Jaime pushed the kid out the window, holy seven hells! Then, came across this place and became a WIC geek, who knew? :giggle:

  • dizzy: Patchy Face,

*Raises hand* Yeah, Where did all those people go?

So all those fine people having a conversation about GOT were actually having a conversation about…. The World Cup??

    Which is fuckin awesome btw.

    Hodor’s Bastard:

    The song remaiaiaiaiaiaiiiaiaiiiaiiiaiaiaiiiaiiiajins
the saiaiaiaiaiiaiiame. Doin my best Robert Plant there… Balls in a vice and all.

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Was that where FABs Indigo angst first made an appearance??

And wow, fuck, the first response…… Hahaha bodies are flung from the trebuchets….
Nothin gets people *off* like guns gays and god.

    *As in, off kilter.

  • Jen@House Stark,

That’s awesome, what a way to drop in! Right on time. Must have been super exciting times. That was me for season two, but I’m always late to the party… ;)
I don’t understand you speed readers who can cash a book like that in a week. I know a barista from a coffee shop I frequent that a couple weeks ago had just cracked book 1, and was already into Clash a week later when I saw her… I got my mom to read them and she took about a month for all five. Crazy. It was about a half a year for me to get through them all.

  • KG,

Meant to comment on this in previous thread, but I wonder if I’m not seeing color well or something because it looks from previews that Jaime has “dirty blond” hair, and did last season as well (more literal with the dirty part). Maybe it’s not golden blond like in the books, but it still seems to match Cersei’s hair color.

For that matter, Tyrion also seems to me to have blond hair (I know some have criticized Dinklage for not dyeing his hair, but it seems clearly blond to me in the new trailer/behind the scenes).

As for why it is so short, Jaime undoubtedly picked up lice during his ordeal, necessitating cutting a lot off.

  • KG,

I’m blond. I get people who act surprised when I say that because they’ve only seen pictures of me in certain light. But I’m not even “dark blond” because I bought that shade of “just for men for beards” and it turned my ‘stache brown. I grew up with light blond hair and it’s now medium blond.

I can understand why Jaime’s hair is so dark in practically all of the scenes he’s depicted because they seem to be fairly dimly lit scenes. Doesn’t mean he’s not blond. He’s just not shiny bright bleached blanket bimbo blonde.

  • Patchy Face,

Do dragons honestly shit, though? GRRM never shies away from the most disgusting fluids and solids living creatures unleash, but there wasn’t a single mention of dragon poo in the whole series… Someone has to ask GRRM this, in a con or something.

I seem to remember some stuff about partially digested bones…

I imagine dragons have cloacas, like chickens and frogs. A multipurpose orifice. Fascinating, when you think about it.

  • Hand of the Kingslayer,
And there are 8000+ frickin’ UnSullied and, except for Strong Belwas, we have not seen one member of Dany’s army defecate yet! What’s up with that? Where do they go? Shit happens differently in Essos.

  • Sister Wrister,

SoS took me the longest to read. After the Red Wedding, I threw it across the room and didn’t pick it up for two weeks :sobs:, didn’t think I’d ever want to read AFfC, but Viper saved me, gave me someone to root for but then, THEN, GRRM killed him off too, the Bastage, rrrrrrrrr

  • Jen@House Stark,

Ahhhhh… RW!! You’re not the first I’ve heard who threw the book! SoS flew for me. I was definitely done for the night after the RW… And I think there was a book… throwing- or at least a heavy, intentional drop off the bed-
That was rough, but I couldn’t stop. I dove right back in…. And yes, the RV was the next great hope….. only to be smashed to bits. Makes me so worried about the characters remaining that still have something worth rooting for….
I stalled out halfway into ADWD… which I loved, but needed a break. A friend I work with just invested in all the audiobooks… so I’ve been hearing bits and pieces at work that way, which has been cool.

  • Sister Wrister,

Not done with ADWD? WHAT? I was in line the day it came out. The doors opened and I flew through the Barnes and Noble to get my copy. Granted, took a while to get through that one. I can not do audio books or Nooks or Tablets or anything like that. Must have my books. :nods:

  • Jen@House Stark,

Haha no I finished it… of course. I just stalled out for a bit. Took me forever to get thru that one, despite really enjoying certain arcs, at certain times… And yeah, I’m all hardcover baby… ;) I will be moving soon and downsizing everything… Many books will go, but not those five!

  • Hodor’s Bastard,

Well, I guess guys without balls don’t need to shit. We really need the show to add a defacating scene. No Dany, no Missandei. Just an Unsullied taking a dump. A steaming pile of shit. The show really needs that to happen…

    Totally. Good times.

  • Fire And Blood,

Rygar is a wild beast. Good to see you commenting again. It reminded me of how awesome your tweet posts are in the on-season.

Anyway, where has Oz run off to? It seems like ages since he had a post…
