Can’t wait for the 15 minutes. Hope it’s not 12 mins of season 1-3 and 3 minutes of season 4. The shot of the man walking with a white flag in the trailer strangely looks like the aftermath of the wildlings attack. We’ll know soon enough.

It really makes less than no sense to me that they left Sansa looking EXACTLY the same. Surely just because people haven’t seen her.. someone would still recognize her. From stories about her or the Kingdom sending out a letter once she goes missing. They really are catering to much to the idiots who watch this show that can’t follow what’s going on.

Well, they are certainly not catering to the idiots who get angry/ worried/ freaked out over a one (one!) second of preview footage.

Sansa has been seen with her hair covered in other trailers/ screenshots for this season. Also, if I remember correctly, she doesn’t dye her hair until the very end of book 3. Either way its really not that big of a deal.

I’ll just say this…of everything they’ve shown so far for season 4, this one I don’t like. There are head scratching things in it. But, I’ll withhold full judgment until I see the whole thing. I do recognize it’s unfair to form an opinion and assumption on what you’re seeing based off of 10 seconds of video.

    Darkstar is the key,

The “idiots who watch this show that can’t follow what’s going on” are the majority of the viewers and therefore far more important for the show than the hardcore fans are (that’s not to say that the hardcore fans arn’t important at all, they are). Besides, let just wait how exactly it all plays out before getting angry over nothing…

No, you remember wrong. She dyes her hair immediately after arriving the Vale. The Alayne Stone dye job is clearly not going to happen in the show — it would make no sense for her to change in Season 5, after everybody at the Eyrie and most likely the Lords Declarant (since Royce and Waynwood are in this season) have already seen her with red hair.

Cannot wait for Sunday, and moreso for this entire season. Still nervous about the inevitable hangover this season will create for the future seasons….but that won’t stop me from enjoying it all the same.

I wonder if they will use Ellaria as an introduction to Dorne early in season 5/late season 4. Maybe show a scene where she tell Doran/Arianne about RV.

Still have no idea how they plan to inroduce us to the upcoming Iron Islanders. My guess is Balon won’t “slip” until late this season, and YarAsha will probably be our gateway into Euron/Victarion… but obv the early involvement in the Stannis stuff muddles that up a bit.

Oh well, thats why D&D gwet paid the big bucks and I still on my couch and speculate/enjoy. Can’t wait!

It’s kind of important, actually; it’s the whole of her disguise. Between how obvious the showrunners have made Baelish’s interest in her and the complete lack of disguise, I expect there’ll be a lot of viewer complaints about nobody figuring out where she is.

    A frame-by-frame analysis:

    1. A shot of Pedro Pascal as the Red Viper (from episode 5).
    2. Bird-perspective shot of the wedding ceremony.
    3. Joffrey and Margaery ascend the steps to the High Septon standing above.
    4. A frontal look on the couple, Mace Tyrell can be seen in the background.
    5. A shot of Tyrion, probably in the black cells.
    6. Daenerys in a vaulty space – I guess it is her we could see in the trailer going down the steps and she is entering the pit where the dragons are locked up.
    7. Jon Snow standing on a brink (of the Wall) with a number of black brothers.
    8. A crowd of freedmen cheering for Daenerys who is smiling down on them.
    9. Daenerys, Jorah, Ser Barristan, Missandei and probably Daario leading a horse walking towards the camera (a green bag is on the ground).
    10. Most probably our first frontal look at the Champion of Meereen charging into a duel.
    11. The Melisandre shot similar to the one seen in the trailer.
    12. Bran warging.
    13. Jaime and Cersei kiss.
    14. Tyrion in chains walking through the throne room.
    15. Sansa looking happily around herself (most probably in the Eyrie).
    16. Arya and the Hound during a fight scene.
    17. Burning people sliding on ice (I guess these people could be wildlings attacking Castle Black – if I remember correctly, there was some fire involved in the book during the first attack on Castle Black, the one where Ygritte died.)
    18. The Red Viper and the Mountain fight.
    19. Cersei in a black dress (most probably post-Purple Wedding).
    20. The wildlings running into battle (this one isn’t very clear, though).
    21. Jaime learning how to fight with his left hand.
    22. Jon Snow fighting as seen in the trailer (or a very similar shot).
    23. The Mountain bringing down his greatsword.

There’s no reason to find a way “around it”. If her hair is not dyed now, they aren’t going to at all — there’s absolutely no reason to delay it. If Turner didn’t want to to dye her hair, give her a wig like most of the rest of the female cast. The idea that Sansa’s story has been restructured in some way that requires putting off the dye job is pretty out-there.

thinking of those times, dying one’s hair would definitely make a difference. It is not only about fooling or deceiving, you have to absolutely eliminate even the slightest suspicion. A simple question of “what if” can lead to drastic outcomes. Littlefinger doesn’t want them to think “this can’t be Sansa, because hair”, he doesn’t want them paying any attention to her at all.

Why is Sansa dying her hair or not such a big deal to some people? Nobody who really knows somebody (even if it just from seeing) would be fooled by that anyway. It was a nice add on to the name change, nothing more. If I would dye my hair, I really don’t think it would stop someone from recognizing me if he gets face-to-face with me, even if he only knows me briefly.

From all casting information, the storyline is proceeding more or less like the books. There’s no way she’s not going to be in hiding, and she’s at the Eyrie, and the proto-Lords Declarant are showing up, almost certainly at the Eyrie.

Wearing a wig is not a burden that they would plan a story around. And it’s nonsensical to bring Sansa to the Eyrie and then, what, shut her in a room so that nobody but Lysa, Robin, and [fall guy] see her? Why would they change the story like that? What would be Littlefinger’s long-term plan? It’s far, far more likely that they’ve done away with it entirely, because there’s no reason at all not to do it now.

How is it “nonsensical”? He doesn’t want people to know he has Sansa, hiding her away from most people is the best way to ensure that. As for LFs long term plan, well, to reveal her later on? You aren’t exactly thinking outside the box here.

Possible explanations to the fire scene:

    1. The NW just trebucheted or dumped a whole bunch of burning oil onto the wildlings from above and the mammoths are reacting
    2. Pyrokinetic Mel is burning people (more than just the eagle) and Stannis’s army is dragging burning wildlings away via their horses.

In any case, we’re starting to get more detail from those burning stills that we saw earlier. Fire in the icy north is so cool!

That would be the best explanation. Don’t the NW throw burning pots of oil over the Wall at the Mammoths trying to break down the gate?. Alternatively it could be someone being dragged by a horse on the other side of the Wall, though I’m not sure why they would use CGI rather than a real horse and a stuntman. Maybe setting a stuntman on fire AND having him be dragged by a horse is too dangerous

How is it “nonsensical”? He doesn’t want people to know he has Sansa, hiding her away from most people is the best way to ensure that.

If he’s planning to hide her, taking her to one of the main castles of the Seven Kingdoms makes no sense.

I’m not “upset”, I’m simply pointing out the obvious: that the dye job isn’t happening, and none of the elaborate changes people are spinning here would make any sense. There’s simply no reason for the show to make those changes.

well considering he’s marrying Lysa, LF has control over the Eyrie and the people in it. Not to mention it’s several thousand foot high and people need a mule and a royal bastard to get in, IF they get through the bloody gate. No one that Littlefinger didn’t want to see Sansa could get in the Eyrie, and if they did he could just make her stay out of sight.

Please let this season get here soon so we don’t have to hear more of this whiny BS.

    Chickenduck,

    This.

Hair dye matters about as much as the hair on Varys’ nonexistant ballsack. Where are your priorities, people? Was it such a great scene/moment in the books that it deserves screen time? No, it wasn’t, and if D&D managed to write arround it sensibly (which is still to be determined) we wouldn’t lose anything if Sansa keeps her hair red.

There are things a hundred times more important and a hundred times more memorable and awesome that will make it into this season, and this little detail (while appreciated in the books) is really unnecessary.

    Abyss,

Wicnet tumblr has a slightly better quality version that you can actually pause.

Why wouldn’t she want to? She’s already dyeing her hair for the role. If she can dye her hair red/auburn, why not dark brown?

  95. Annara Snow

    Abyss:
Why is Sansa dying her hair or not such a big deal to some people? Nobody who really knows somebody (even if it just from seeing) would be fooled by that anyway. It was a nice add on to the name change, nothing more. If I would dye my hair, I really don’t think it would stop someone from recognizing me if he gets face-to-face with me, even if he only knows me briefly.

She’s not hiding from people who know her – they would recognize her, of course. She’s hiding from everyone in Westeros who has never seen Sansa Stark, what with it being a world with no photos, but knows that she’s a “maid of 13 (or rather 15 in the show), beautiful, with blue eyes and auburn hair” and that the crown is paying a good reward if she’s delivered to them. The hair color is more conspicuous than brown hair would be anyway, and there are no contacts in that world, so dyeing her hair is at least an attempt to change her appearance as much as possible.

    Annara Snow,

You misunderstood me there. I never said that Sansa is hiding from people who know her. My point was that if she were to met someone who know her, this person would recognize her regardless of dyed hair.
And as far the description her searchers have goes: You have to admit that it is very broad. There must be thousands of girls in Westeros who fit it.
I just don’t see how dying her her could be a real factor in hiding Sansa

Casual viewers are already having trouble recognizing characters. There are about five times as many as any other show on TV. I used to watch with a girl who had to ask me who was who every scene. We forget what a huge memory aid reading the books can be, and rereading the books, and watching each episode three times, and reading Wicnet every day. Some people, especially if they are bad with faces and need obvious cues for who is who, only know Sansa as “red haired girl.” Changing that to reenforce a minor point would be unfair to them.

On second thought, what am I thinking? I’m a book reader so screw the casual fans. Dany’s eyes arn’t violet and Ghost made a noise and Strong Belwas and Renly’s peach and NO ONE UNDERSTANDS!

    oblivious,

I honestly can’t comprehend the concern about Sansa’s hair color. It’s absurd to me. Especially since I am a die-hard book fan and ASOIAF “nerd”.

This is a television show. The hair color would barely change anything for the viewers, or for the audience. It’s pointless. The only potential (negative) effect it could have is on casual viewers who confuse all of the characters already. Sansa’s red hair is how these viewers identify her.

Not to mention, the show could obviously write out the hair dye/disguise aspect.

The most obvious explanation for her to not dye her hair, though, is that in the show she will have scenes with, what, 20 characters TOPS this season? What characters out of this 20 will be able to identify her based on her hair? Maybe 1 or 2? You don’t think that realistically those people wouldn’t apply the connection? Like I honestly can’t comprehend this even being of any concern to anyone, because it is such a minor detail in the scheme of things.

^OK, I just re-read that after sobering up a little (I think) and I apologize for it not making much sense. But it still makes no sense why Sansa’s hair color matters at all. This season will pass, and you will forget that her hair color didn’t change at all. That’s all there is to it.

So lets forget the books and just think about what’s happening in the show. There’s a fairly major difference in the show appearances of Sansa and Cat compared to their book appearance.

In the show, Sansa and Cat don’t have the same hair colour. Dying her hair brown would actually make her look MORE like her mother.

Furthermore, Sophie Turner and Michelle Fairley don’t look all that much alike period. They can pass for mother/daughter, but not as similar as the book descriptions were.

So if no one in ShowVale has ever seen her before (except maybe Lysa when Sansa was very, very young) then no one is likely to twig. And anyway, Lysa is batshit crazy and distracted by all that sex with Littlefinger.

So really… Are we just bored and looking for something (anything) to argue about because we want the show to start already?!

Not in fucking Canada though. Grrr I hate HBO Canada. Some shitty TMN made Canadian comedy set in Winnipeg or a Jason Priestley starring hipsterish detective series filmed and set in Vancouver will be shown instead. Oh look at my fellow Canadians trying to make a quality dramedy! Ugh.

    Valyrian Plastic,

Elio and Linda are jokes. The only way they will ever be satisfied with an ASOIAF tv show is if it was a video of the book pages being turned.

No creative mind or grasp of the creative process whatsoever for them

    arden,

And yet this entire forum seems to be crying over spilled hair dye, implying there are some fans here who are no less satisfied with minor changes leading to issues with the story logic in the long-term. How’s their whining about how D&D cut everything from the House of the Undying, or the white-washing of Cersei any different to this?

    Valyrian Plastic,

Not everyone here is bothered by the hair. But in any case, there is little difference , even if I find the Elio/Linda stuff more insufferable because they react like this for EVERY change. In both it’s a case of inflexibility and unwillingness to see an alternative the book.

    cosca,

Exactly. ASOIAF fans are the hardest to please. They don’t like Ciaran Hinds as Mance or the chain being cut from Blackwater, and yet it changes nothing about the books (except maybe, Osha). The whole point of the books to begin with was they could never be adapted page-for-page in any other form, and even Elio and Linda understand this.

They watch as fans of the show too, but they also know the issue of certain things changing may affect the books, given that the series is no where near over. At it’s core, it’s a story about foreshadowing and mystery, things which ultimately pay off years down the line, and the fact it would be impossible to film them all is fine, but it inevitably creates a heap of paradoxes if someone goes out of character. Have any of the sullied ever watched the show through rose-tinted Myrish lenses? If they have there’s always a few thorns in the way.

Ever hear the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” ? That’s a good principle to live your life by. The show is seemingly breaking that principle with the dye thing. It’s not the size of the change, its just that the change is wholly unnecessary that is upsetting.

Like you did a perfectly good job on something at work and then your boss comes in and fiddles with it just because theyre your boss and they think they should. Are you people saying that wouldn’t upset you?

EDIT: Also, to people saying the hair change wouldn’t help disguise her…that fact that people are also concerned about viewer confusion proves that the dye job would help disguise her! Idiot viewers would be thrown off by the change in hair color, and since westeros is a realistic setting, most people in westeros are also idiots prone to being thrown off by a simple change in hair color.

    aimlessgun,

Can you at least wait until you seen the episode before you start bitching about it? We have no way of knowing whether or not her gets dyed after that promo scene.

And seriously, it’s not that big of deal. WTF is wrong with you people?

    Valyrian Plastic,

Uh.. because Elio and Linda haven’t accepted 1 change besides Melisandre meeting BWB, and also they post videos and essays explaining why the changes don’t work like they are the king and queen of ASOIAF

Oh and the people who are crying about the hair are jokes too, they’re just looking for something to bitch about.

    arden,

Not to mention that Linda considers herself an authority on the books despite not having read half of Storm of Swords. A hardcore book purist who hasn’t finished the books, it’s laughable.

    cosca,

Lmao I forgot about that, I don’t think she watched the episode on the show either. I fully believe they get no satisfaction from the show, you can see it just from their review videos videos that they can’t wait to rip the changes. I mean their write up reviews went from reviewing the whole episodes then they changed the format to center around the changes

red hair is very characteristic of the tully, and it would be a great physical change to see her character go through. it may seems silly, but things like that affect the way a person acts. look at cercei! these small details is what the series prides itself on. It is most safe for petyr to change her appearance as much as possible. His alliance with the throne depends on it. may not matter much, but it would be cool to see sophie with black hair.

Lol, this comment made me spit up my coffee, funniest post of the day, and unfortunately true. Book fans need to remember, tv is a different format entirely and therefore the books have to be ADAPTED to this reality.

Seriously! How much does it cost to dye someone’s hair? This is unforgivable. I mean………Jamie’s supposed to be the golden lion, not the brown lion:p

As horrid as it sounds, sometimes hair dye doesn’t take. Or it looks crappy – we may not want the brown lion, but certainly not the orange lion, either. Or people have allergic reactions. I know, I know. Hair colour that’s exactly like in the books is so much more important than actors’ health – suffer for your art and all that. Clearly, NCW (or his hairdresser?) didn’t get that memo.
