Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing airs on HBO

The 15-minute preview show for Game of Thrones fourth season, Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing, has just finished airing on HBO. Did you miss it? No worries. Watch it below!

Screencaps from the preview can be found on our Tumblr.

Winter Is Coming: What an amazing treat! For some reason I was under the impression this would focus mostly on recapping the past season with a bit about season 4, but this was almost all season 4 goodness. And how good it looks! I don’t even know where to start, so much to dissect and discuss here. Pedro Pascal looks amazing as the Red Viper. Tyrion’s arc looks like it is going to be particularly strong this season. As does Jon’s.

I also really enjoyed hearing from the cast in this one. The fan questions were unique enough and led to answers that were often fun and funny. “He has nice eyes!” Rory McCann is hilarious.

All-around, this was the perfect 15 minute appetizer for the main course, coming April 6th!

  • LOL I was expecting 13 minutes of recap from last season and maybe 2 minutes of new material, not basically fifteen minutes of new material in major detail. Wow.

  • Too much information. I need to watch that a few more times. And alot of pausing. Can’t wait for thorough screen capping. All I care about is Drogon. And that shot of Mereen looks freaking fantastic. God this show is amazing.

  • Wow!
    That was one legit preview!

    So much goodness!
Arya with Needle again,.. and that smile! XD
    Oberyn and Tyrion
Jaime sparring with a man that looks a lot like Bronn?
    Dragons.. got BIGGER! XD

    Can-Not-Wait!

  • Sansa in the Fingers? Did I catch that right? Didn’t think they were even doing the Fingers…

I love Gwen so much, her laugh is fantastic. Looks like we get a decent amount of Brienne this season!

  • Can some computer literate person please create a few HD screenshots of Drogon?

I really really want that as my new desktop wallpaper so I can nerdgasm everytime I look at my PC…

  • Errr, D&D can’t go wrong with this season in my opinion. The 2nd half of S&S is the best section of the books and it’s looks like they are doing it justice.

    Much bravo, such scenes, wow.

  • Couple of things to note:

    Tormund is raiding Castle Black
Jaime and Tyrion are shown in the dungeons, presumably during Tyrion’s escape
Jaime and Bronn are the confirmed sparring pair
Grenn is alongside Jon raiding Craster’s Keep, if I saw that right

  • Melisandre is definitely talking to Yara/Asha in that clip of her we’ve seen a few times. The braid in her hair gave it away for me.

  • Oh my heck. That was amazing. Going to have to watch it at least 5 more times to absorb everything I just saw and heard.

Season 4 fangirling officially commencing NOW.

  • At 16 seconds in, someone is getting their throat cut—is it me or does the profile of the assailant look like Yara? Possibly at the Dreadfort?

  • Two things:
Roose is now bearded. It suits him.

And from that shot at the gate at 1:20 it would seem as some thought that Grenn will replace Donal Noye vs Mags the Mighty at the gate.

  • Wow !

    So many stuff !!

    Brienne bitting Biter’s ear.
    Drogon.
    Jaime – Bronn.
“I am guilty of being a dwarf.”
    Nikolaj and Peter’s dance.
    Meereen.
    Ramsay cut ?

  • Jon Snow, “I am plenty wrong” :sobs: , Jaime fighting with his left, mad ninja Arya, and big assed dragon, finally!! Geekgasm all over the place, hehehehe.

  • ok, who was that laying the the lonely looking cobble stone bedroom? and the girl escaping — ramsay related mischief?

  • Hey Winter,

You guys have had this site since before the show aired. So now that you have a relationship with HBO, how exactly does media sharing work? With like, trailers and this new video? What do they send you to embed the video/trailer/whatever on WiC?
Do they send it before or after the whatever-it-is airs?

I’ve just always been curious and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone ask before. Oh, and can you tell HBO to change the premiere date back to March 3oth, which was my birthday?

    Thanks.

    Always support the bottom.

  • A list of things confirmed in my first watch of this:
    tree warging
    – the Martells titles as Princes and Princesses (I thought they would be Lords and Ladies in the show to simplify things)
    – ear biting!
    the gift of mercy?
    – Bronn as Jaime’s sparring partner :D
    – pyramids
    – Petyr speaking to someone with brown hair

    Things not confirmed:
    – Lancel
    – Kevan
    – Kovarro

On a side note: what’s up with Isaac’s hair when he’s interviewed? o.O

    DROGON LOOKS INCREDIBLE O.O

  • That was amazing! I will need to watch it about a zillion times. Love Jaime and Tyrion dancing. I was skeptical about Jaime’s “early” arrival in KL but I think it’s going to work just fine.

There is so much to process from those 15 minutes. I do love Kit. Gwen’s laugh is both scary and charming.

Can’t wait – Oberyn, ear biting, and very large Drogon!

  • Polish:
ok, who was that laying the the lonely looking cobble stone bedroom?and the girl escaping — ramsay related mischief?

At first glance, I though it was Sansa. Possibly, when they’re in the Fingers on the way to the Vale? I need to watch it again though.

  • Someone remind me, did Tyrion not offer Dorne a spot on the small council in the show version of things?

  • The most intriging part is why Bran suddenly have curly long hair in one scene.
Is there a time jump or something?

    Quote

I believe that’s Sansa at the Eyrie, waking up before the snow castle scene.

  • WOW! Im probably one of the few in the world who dont really care much about the dragons and like the show for the Westros politics but that shot of the dragon at the end was insanely frightening and amazing!! Cant believe theres still 2 more months to wait….

  • hey can anyone post the video using a different player than youtube?? im stuck on my ship and youtube doesnt work

  • Myrish Swampert:
The most intriging part is why Bran suddenly have curly long hair in one scene.
Is there a time jump or something?

Could he be playing a young Benjen or some other Stark in one of his tree visions?

  • A note of concern: Still No sign of Mance! I dont how a wildling army attacking without their leader is going to work? Hopefully Im wrong and he is coming back!

  • And there is a MASSIVE BOOK SPOILER in that quote from Jon: “It’s as if I went to sleep for a year, and when I woke up the wall’s fallen apart.”

  • New Brienne scenes?! Never have I been SO GLAD to see a divergence from the books. Gwendoline and Nikolaj’s scenes are a gift to the directors and viewers alike.

  • Arkash,

If Brienne bites Biter’s ear, does that mean she will be captured by LS by the end of the season? I felt we were due a little more wandering. Visiting the Tarlys, Nimble Dick stuff, Septon Meribald. I understand cutting it down, it’s a common complaint. But there were all sorts of adventures she could get into before running into LS.

Looking it up, he bites her, not the other way around…

  • I thought people would have known by now-if Tyrion’s not IN trouble, he’s on his way. Mereen…Gods be good! Drogon!! Yeah I want a screencap of him too. And….everything else! That was good! All of THAT was good!

    The North Remembers…

  • Andrew,

He says the world’s fallen apart, not the wall. The context of the quote is probably him finding out about Bran & Rickon being “dead”, Winterfell in ruins, and the RW.

  • Still no sight of Kevan, but then, we just tonight got our first real look at the new Tommen. Still no real sight of Aemon, Pyp, Locke, Lysa, Robin, and several others known to be returning (Aemon not confirmed, but highly likely) so I’m not that worried yet. We’ve seen what, two or three shots in total of Stannis in this season’s trailers? The same of Lady Olenna and Melisandre? These things considered, I still say Kevan is seen in that Vine video of the Red Viper vs. the Mountain duel.

  • OH MY GOT!!! That was such a treat haifjkldkd. It looks AMAZING. And the Drogon shot at the end killed me. Best show in existence. Now going to re-watch it 10 more times and pause.

  • Let me just say that this show including the sets, the locations, the costumes, and the production (among other things) never cease to amaze me.

I’ve honestly never seen anything like it.

15 minutes of pure epic. If you guys are interested in an Unsullied review of the featurette, holla.

    Come on April.

Yes yes yes! I would love to read an unsullied review!

    It’s “…the world’s fallen apart”.

  • So much awesomeness ! Looks like they’re cutting a lot of Brienne’s affc plotline though, if we’re already at the ear-biting thing by the end of s4. Oh well, this season looks excellent and that’s all that matters really :)

  • AAAAHHHHHHH!!!! Thanks, WiC! Thought I’d have to wait to see it on HBO West, but you came through with a copy right here. I actually yelled out loud at the final frame of Drogon. OH YEAH! Gotta watch it over and over!

Loved the Tyrion/Jamie dance! Gwen is so cute! Hodor is so…Hodor! The vistas are STUNNING, both CGI and otherwise! So many book moments I thought would be cut! So many intriguing scenes look like they’re being added! I CANNOT WAIT!!!

    [faints]

    Come on April.

Yes, please. We’d all love to get your perspective on this.

Already posted this on the other open thread, but the highlight of this truly epic video was Gwendoline Christie’s utterly deranged glee upon recounting the day she bit off some dude’s ear and spitit in his face. Only she (and this show) could make something so gruesome seem both endearing and awesome! Can’t wait to see the results of her work …

Well, to be fair, maybe that was the second most-memorable thing I took from this video … the first being the image of Drogon. Holy crap, he’s huge. And he looks fantastic. The VFX team has outdone themselves yet again!

  • Kit: ‘I think without Sam Jon would crumble’ – So would Frodo in LOTR. Funny similarities

  • Great preview, too much greatness to process.

The Roose is loose…and bearded! Love it.

Also, can we please get a gif of Jaime and Tyrion dancing ASAP? Hysterical.

  • I am so so happy that my wish has been granted and I will get to see Bronn as Jaime’s practice partner. The dialogue in those scenes is going to be priceless. I love this show so much. Off to watch it again a couple more times now!

  • I hope the show runners would come out and explain the situation on Bran’s hair.
That’s literally the worst wig I’ve ever seen.

  • Lemoncake,
His eyebrows have a completely different colour from his hair, this can mean

    – he won’t look like that on screen, it’s some film trick to do with colour filtering in post-production
    – there’s a in-world explanation, something magical happens that changes his hair (like people can get white hair from a shock)

  • I wonder when Jorah’s betrayal happens. He seems to be in quite a few scenes, though they may all be from the same episode

  • Looks like the actress hunting with Ramsay is Charlotte Hope, who was one of the girls who “seduced” Theon last season.

  • Oz of Thrones,

    Yes please!!

That was awesome. Glad to see Mereen looking suitably grand. Gwendoline is so cool!

Seems a bit churlish to complain about anything after that, but would have liked to have seen a bit of Stannis the mannis.

  • Purple Reign? Oh you wags! For a minute I thought that Jojen had overdone it with the hair product but think it is fake snow? Also, is Brienne wearing Tyrell colours before she gets her armor-perhaps Magery takes her under her wing?

Loras is still not Kingsguard by the PW-guess he joins after to protect his sister?

  • Could they have put Brienne to discover LS after all? It’s unlikely, but not impossible, I think.

Gwen’s laughter made my heart beat fast as hell. Just when you think she stopped she goes BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!! If I ever get to laugh like that, I’d need some time to catch some breath.
Nik and Pete’s dance scene got me rolling on the ground…
    Drogon’s fucking scary.
Meereen is better than anything I ever expected.
I think I saw Daario going for his breeches. And the arrows on the earth tells exactly the level of commitment to the story this show has right now.
    Loved it to the end.

“If you need help, bark like a dog.”
“That’s stupid. If I need help, I’ll shout help.”

“It’s a hundred feet wide. How could we have passed it?”

“Nothing isn’t better or worse than anything. Nothing is just… nothing.”

  • I can already see that Mr. Gleeson did a terrific job with one of my favorite lines in the book: Joffrey was so excited that it looked like he wanted to kill someone on the spot.

  • I dunno how I feel about Bronn being Jaime’s sparing partner. Bronn seems like the worst possible choice if Jaime is trying to be discreet about how terrible a fighter he is now. Here’s hoping they’ve come up with a good reason.

  • On the fourth viewing….Pure joy….will enjoy again and again. Tower of Joy, Tower of Joy, my friends! So many clues in the shots. The clips are like a Sullied wet dream. Meereen looked better than my mental picture of it and some of the fan art out there. They did their homework well.

    Fuckin’ Drogon. Barbeque anyone?

Still didn’t have much on Bran’s story (because every frickin’ second of it will be spoilery!) :)

Brienne makes me smile. She is the bad ass! Bite that ear off, Tarth woman!

Between the GoT preview and TD, HBO justified my ongoing annual subscription/prescription tonight.

  • It looked to me that during Sophie’s interview she was getting her hair dyed. The woman’s gloves and all. After all the comments on a previous post about Sansa’s hair I’m surprised no one else has commented about that.

  • AA:

If that’s what they’re doing, it would have to be another application of her normal red dye. Quite apart from all the footage, we’ve got a lengthy photo record of her through the course of the production of the season, and she clearly never changed it.

  • We do not Hodor,

I guess that could work. Just seems like an odd choice when they’ve already introduced and used Payne before (unless he’s been cut, and they don’t want to recast or him anymore?).

  • I just realized that when they’re talking about the Royal Wedding, the “Rains of Castemere” is playing the background. Perhaps to signify the impending chaos there? Haha

Given that the actor has terminal cancer, they may have wanted to avoid recasting. Beside which, it’s a reason to get more scenes out of a popular character.

  • direwolves are cool.

    westeros politics, great.

    vengeance awesome.

white walkers are creepy as shit.

but even after all that badassery….

    there be fuckin DRAGONS!!!

  • Both my daughter and I yelled ‘WHOA’ as Drogon appeared. That is one fine looking piece of CGI! Nice job as usual, post production!

  • In the parts where Sophie Turner is answering questions in the trailer the guying is coloring her hair. Now more than likely, they are just redoing her hair to keep the color that they want. But there’s also a possibility that they are darkening it there.

  • You know how some people recorded their friends as they watched the Red Wedding for the first time? I’d like to see all our faces when we saw that stupendous shot of Drogon for the first time! Wowza!

  • I just watched this 3 times…

I get such a magical feeling when I watch GoT stuff. I said this before but it’s so true…

Ever since my parents took me to see Ridley Scott’s movie ‘Legend’ I remember, at age 11, that movie just taking me out of boring reality and into a magical place. I walked out of that theatre a fantasy genre fan and from that point on sought out to feel that experience, that “high” again…

It lead me to read LotR and play AD&D and just seek out fantasy like it wherever I could.

I remember reading “choose your own adventure books” and all kinds of stuff like that… Playing PC games (I still play WoW).

Now I’m an adult but I still have that kid inside me seeking out that thrilling fantasy experience…

    Enters Game of Thrones…..

GoT, what can I say. We all know what it does to us. It’s “choose your own adventure” and LotR type stuff splashed with adult themes, complicated relationships and politics, along with just enough fantasy elements to keep that little kid inside you happy.

    God, what a show….

It’s the only show out there that honestly brings me that little childlike pure thrill and happiness…

It’s like I’m 11yrs old again watching ‘Legend’ when I see Drogon… So giddy and happy and such a joy inside of me…

    Thanks D&D and HBO!!!

  • I’m just about ready to explode from waiting for this, damn damn damn it looks good this season!

also Gwendoline is scaring me in these interviews xD

  • So, Bronn and Jaime are happening, which confirms Jaime as stupid as ****
    Kevan lol what Kevan
Oh well at least Drogon looked sweet, Dragons Are The Most Important Thing after all

  • Just had a thought…
In light of Gwen’s comments about Brienne biting someone’s ear off. I wonder if after Jaime sends her out on her quest to find Sansa that we skip all the Nimble Dick/Quiet Isles stuff and basically go right to her finding the orphans at the inn. She bite’s off Biter’s ear and is taken before Catelyn in the last scene of Season 4…and that’s how we find out that Catelyn is undead.
In Season 5, Brienne would basically sit it out until she rides off with Jaime at the end.
It would solve the problem of Brienne’s story meandering so much in FFC and it would give D&D one less story arc to juggle since there are so many new strands starting up.
It seems like whatever route they take, Brienne’s gonna get well into her quest this season, which doesn’t leave much for her to do in the next.

  • Big mean Drogon eating a shepards pie. Perhaps child getting roasted alive and eaten; and then spit out the bones. Dany needs to tighten the leash on these teenage dragons.

  • I can’t wait for this season. Especially when *********** decides to ******** and then ********** goes ******* and ********.

Oh man, I am just anxious just thinking about it.

  • So now it’s pretty clear that the show runners are against Bran.
First they showed like 2 seconds of him out of 15 minutes, then they gave him the worst wig they could possibly found.
It looks like he has weirwood roots growing out of his head.

  • Hollyoak: So now that you have a relationship with HBO, how exactly does media sharing work? With like, trailers and this new video? What do they send you to embed the video/trailer/whatever on WiC?
Do they send it before or after the whatever-it-is airs?

    1) HBO uploads the video on its Youtube channel.
    2) WICnet copies/pastes that link in a blog post.

    Yes, it’s really that simple.

  • Wasn’t Richard Madden’s hair extra long in the preview special from last season? Then we never saw it that length during the actual show. I’d wager the same thing’s going on with Bran’s hair (interview probably shot after filming).

  • Annara Snow,

The actor is now 14, I think? I haven’t looked at any recent pictures besides the small icon on his twitter and it might be safe to assume it’s him in the shot.

But why make confusing recasts when you’ve got a good actor who’s already played the role successfully?

  • First. Awesome!

Second. I’m calling it now: Judging by that shot in the special, it looks like Bronn is helping Tyrion to escape not Varys. Will Bronn be the one to say “In the end Tywin Lannister didnt shit gold.”?

  • We do not Hodor:
    Zychotous,

He pays Bronn lots and lots of gold to keep his mouth shut?

Or, perhaps Show Jaime doesn’t care as much as Book Jaime about keeping it secret. It’s not as if it’d be hard to guess that someone losing their sword hand would need a lot of retraining to be competent again (if they could manage it at all).

It could be pride and image, rather than strict secrecy, that keeps him from asking for help in the open from fellow Kingsguard members. It’s one thing for them to hear rumors about it (or make assumptions), and another for them to be the ones actually training the person who’s supposed to be their leader, and seeing first-hand how much trouble he’s having.

  • facelessarya:

The actor was fantastic in season 1, but I’m saying that a tall 14-year old playing Sweetrobin would really screw up things and his dynamic with Sansa, since he’s supposed to be a child, an annoying and weak but still innocent child, not a teenager who looks as big as she is. Heck, he considers her his *mother*. You can get away with it with other characters, like Bran, or even Tommen, but I don’t see how you can have the same story with a SR who seems to be an adolescent about Sansa’s age.

Which is why I’m really hoping he’s not that tall or mature-looking and that he’s one of those 14-year olds who can still pass for a child.

  • cosca,

That’s what a preview does. Spoiling things. Beside I don’t believe literally every shot of Bran’s storyline will be some big reveal, there has to be a lot of traveling and filler scenes.

    John W,
I don’t think they would they put a wig on him just for an interview.

  • Joshua Atreides:

And actually, I’ve just looked it up. He is not 14, he is 13 and a half, and more importantly was 13 when they were shooting this season. Though he will be 14 when they shoot season 5.

IMDB gives his height as 5′ 1¾” (1.57 m). Unless this is outdated info, he’s not nearly as tall as Aiden Gillen (5’9″, 1.75 m), who is clearly NOT crouching in that scene. And there’s no danger of him looking like a big adolescent rather than a small, sickly and cute child. None of the images I can find on Google suggest that, either.

  • Loved how jolly Gwendoline was about biting someone’s ear off !

And also, it kind of bothers me how hot I find Ramsay with his crazy eyes and everything

e/ one more; What the f is up with Isaac’s hair?

  • If you have seen Bran out of makeup it’s obvious how much older he’s getting. Maybe the wig was the only way they could think of to make him look younger. They can’t do much about his deep voice though.

All the kids look so much older they should probably do something in the show to indicate how much time has passed in world since the pilot. Jamie mentioned last season he spent a year in captivity but that is about all that has been said.

  • Did no one else catch Jaqen’s theme in this promo? Perhaps we will see him show up this season, possibly at Pyke.

    Robbwind resurrected,

What is your deal? Are you unsullied and just guessing or did you not notice all the spoiler tags in the 100+ comments above you? Don’t be a dick.

  • Maester Blaster,

Daenerys made a reference too, in the eighth episode of Season 3, “Second Sons”: “A fortnight ago I had no army. A year ago I had no dragons.” Not very specific, but it coincides with Jamie’s comments: a year since the last episodes of Season 1 (Jamie was captured in episode 9, Daenerys got her dragons in episode 10), so a year… and a half since the beginning of it all? Not sure how much time transpired in Season 1, neither on the show or the books. Even only a year could explain Bran’s and Arya’s growth spurts, honestly. Some people change a lot in a year at that age, and hey, they share genes so it works out fine. Anyway, although book readers may not agree, I do not think it is so important how much time has passed during the series; it’s not actually very relevant to the story. Some people will assume months have passed, others that it is years.

  • Anyone have any thoughts on the fact that they are saying Oberyn is using his “invitation to the wedding” as an excuse to come to kings landing, rather than saying he was coming to sit on the small council? Tyrion even asks him why he has come to kings landing…shouldnt he of all people know the answer tot hat question? Maybe it is a way for them to get around having to introduce Doran and the other Dornish? Could be nothing but that kinda struck me a little.

  • opening shot, Ice being reformed into Oathkeeper and whatever Joff names his sword. Forgot what he calls this one, he had so many.

IIRC in the books, Tyrion expected Doran to come and join the small council, not Oberyn.

There is NO getting around introducing Doran and the other Dornish. And why would they want to “get around it” anyway? Their distaste for hot, beautiful, sexually active female characters?

  • The kings guard armor has a different design on it now! (comparing to season 1-3) the crown looks different and the details on top are completely changed! Random observation out of boredom!!

  • If they included the Dornish council seat as part of Myrcella’s betrothal in season 2 viewers would be asking where the Martells are all through season 3. The way to get around that is just have them offer it to them this season. That is my guess on how it is going to happen. It also wouldn’t surprise me either to see Ellaria take that seat in season 5.

  • Hodor’s Bastard:
On the fourth viewing….Pure joy….will enjoy again and again.Tower of Joy, Tower of Joy, my friends! So many clues in the shots. The clips are like a Sullied wet dream. Meereen looked better than my mental picture of it and some of the fan art out there. They did their homework well.

    Fuckin’ Drogon. Barbeque anyone?

Still didn’t have much on Bran’s story (because every frickin’ second of it will be spoilery!):)

Brienne makes me smile. She is the bad ass! Bite that ear off, Tarth woman!

Between the GoT preview and TD, HBO justified my ongoing annual subscription/prescription tonight.

What, where did you see reference to ToJ?

  • Wow. I was going to gif that again and I have started, but I don’t think I have the time to finish it, it’s just too much new footage. Sorry, Greenjones. ;-)

  • Lorss: 0:31 you can see dornids banners

You can also see the Manwoody banner. (the crowned skull on black) I wonder if there will be a quip in the show about the worst named house…

  • Wow Gwendoline’s laugh is insanely deranged and amazing! People have mentioned Brienne biting the ear off of Biter, but didn’t he chew off her face? Didn’t she bite off Vargo Hoat’s ear? In which case, how awesome would it be if she ran into Locke during her journey and gave him some payback for that whole bear pit incident….. Either way I’m sure it’ll be awesome!! So excited for this season!

  • Abyss,

I was going to say that it would be probably too much of an undertaking. For the briefer shots, the stills are good enough anyways. Do as you please, I won’t beg.

  • JoopStroop: What, where did you see reference to ToJ?

Oh, in my excitement, I used it as a euphemism rather than a literal reference. :)
But then again, who knows what Bran experiences when he interfaces with the weirnet? Perhaps a vision of a Laughing Tree knight/relative? A man can dream….

  • I’m pretty sure we finally saw something official about Dean-Charles Chapman taking over as Tommen (the GoT still doesn’t list it yet). That looked like him. Granted, we haven’t seen Callum Wharry in two years, so who knows what he looks like now.

Also, in the subject of Bran’s hair: One would think being on the run for two years would take away from one’s opportunities for styling. That said, it looks red instead of his normal dark brown.

  • Looks like they’ve paired Bronn with Jaime instead of Ilyn Payne. What a great idea! Can’t wait to see them sparring both literally and figuratively. Plus, it extends Bronn’s life in the show in a super smart and natural way.

  • Stupid Olympics! I forgot all about this. It was so much more than I was expecting. For some reason the important takeaway for me was that Meereen has pyramids. Yay!

From this preview, it’s already safe to say Peter Dinklage deserves the Emmy.

Oberyn is continuing to do things to me.

  • Annara Snow,

Well done on the research! Yeah, in costume and make up he shouldn’t look that different. He plays his character very well anyways even if he looked older.

  • Isaac’s hair could be for a day of shooting distance shots, to help make Bran look smaller in perspective.

    LS is speaking to Sansa
    https://24.media.tumblr.com/9fe855e4ae3d2d33d244a2270ca4ba50/tumblr_n0rdy2A7As1r4n79go1_1280.png

There are two scenes of him talking to someone with their back turned to the camera. One is Sansa. The other is seen here: http://wicnet.tumblr.com/image/76194576256. And I’d say that person is definitely too tall to be Sweetrobin. I’d throw in Gendry as a possibility (substituting all the bastards!), but who knows. The best here is definitely Aiden’s evil smirk.

    Lana:
    Morgan,
I heard it was actually Gilly

It would make a lot of sense, actually. They are both at Castle Black in the end, and given that Book!Gilly was the wetnurse of Mance’s infant son, it makes sense for Show!Gilly to be the same – and feel doubts about letting Mel have the baby, naturally.

I don’t think whoever that is with Ramsay will be too happy to have gone hunting with him…

  • OMG THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME!!! long live Game of Thrones!!

    Now let’s read these 200 comments… :D

  • Well isn’t this bloody fantastic. Incredible 15 mins, Season 4 looks amazing.
Nice to have some things confirmed (Jaime/Bronn) and some new things to speculate on.

I think I (and many others)may have been correct in our guess that the Lady Stoneheart reveal will come in the form of Brienne’s last scene. Instead of some random Frey we’ll see what’s become of the Stark matriarch through the eyes of a loved character.
Then Brienne’s boring journey stuff from the book (That happens before her LS meet) will be rearranged to S5 without much consequence.

Hope it happens, it may be the best way for the show to approach it.

  • Nick_Scryer,

I think it’s more likely that most of Brienne’s journey will be cut entirely, and that after her meeting with UnCat she’ll be offscreen for most of Season 5 until she comes to lead Jaime off towards the end of the season

  • cosca,

I don’t think that will happen. You can do that kind of thing in a book, but not on a TV series with a character and actor who are really popular. Especially if Gwendoline is a regular this year, and I would bet on it.

  • Amazing! Can’t wait!
How interesting that the popular Jaime/Bronn pairing came to fruition.
    No Varys for me :(
Brienne and Marg together for some gossip. It happens early. Marg doesn’t wear her mourning gown.
I guess the “Tyrion in chains” mystery is driving the UnSullied crazy!
Oberyn came for the wedding? As an invitee? And in front of whom was he kissing Elaria so lustily?
Sansa having red hair all-around is matter of production since episodes are not filmed consecutively. Sophie would go bald if she went so rapidly through hair paint. A wig could have been used though. And speaking of wigs…. yes, I concur: Isaac’s one is awful!
“Purple reign” – that’s a nice episode title. And hearing the magnitude of that wedding, hearing N Dormer saying she won’t have a bigger wedding than this… oh my! And apparently it will take half of the episode, not the whole of it.
    Drogon: Big, Bad, Better.

  • Satin,

I think in adapting FFC/DWD the show may have no choice. There’s simply too many story lines, and ending Brienne’s in Season 4 would free up more screen-time for the dozens of other story lines (many of which are more important)

  • cosca:

That’s kind of what I mean, though. Show might consider Brienne’s storyline just as important as others. Let’s wait and see where she ends up. It doesn’t have to be her who meets Stoneheart. I think it’s much more likely to be one of the more notable second- or third-tier Freys, like Black Walder. Also, Brienne biting someone’s ear off might start her emnity with Rorge, instead of being her revenge on Locke – since we’ve heard Locke is bound to the wall that would work better logistically.

  • Wow….this really made that entire dry period, punctuated by waiting and more waiting…soo freaking worth it! Too much to talk about! Got to see it again at least one more time!!!!

But hoooollyyyyyyyyy shhiiiiiiiiit! That shot at the end makes everything alright with the world!!!! Dragons in a world of no dragons! Fuckin’ a!

  • Sam asked if Ygritte was “one of the raiders”, it can’t be about the one guy with the horses? So does that mean certain events will be earlier in the season and not episode 9?(can’t spoiler tag)

  • Iwan Rheon creeped me out when he first popped on my screen.

    Gwendoline Christie when she talked.

    I. Love. This. Show.

  • Best parts of the preview:

Bran looking like Inigo Montoya. PREPARE TO BE FELT UP, TREE!
Sansa in her stony room most likely listening to Lysa’s moans.
Bronn helping Jaime and probably mocking him while he’s at it.
Peter and Nikolaj’s unappreciated dance moves.
Jaime looking ready to kill Joffrey himself.

  • Toast:
opening shot, Ice being reformed into Oathkeeper and whatever Joff names his sword.Forgot what he calls this one, he had so many.

Except, you can’t just melt down Valyrian steel to make new Valyrian steel swords. Melting would remove the folding in the metal that makes it Valyrian steel. Refolding the metal is a lost art by that point in Westerosi and world history, so they can only reshape it with cold processes.

I think we have a new gate!

  • You know this preview would have been a good time to introduce the new Daario actor, that way it’s not clunky/confusing to the viewers who have no idea what’s going on.

  • Holy crap, this will be more epic than ever, an awesome season is coming, based on this (and I say that as a seasoned veteran of WiC.net and someone who knows the plot). Just wow! A really effective ending with Drogon, but the shot that really got to me in its epic scale was Meereen! They did it justice. This is just getting better and better.

  • Joe Gatt tweeted that there are glimpses of him in the foreshadowing show tonight. Has anyone spotted him yet? Here’s what he tweeted:
“Winter is here! Watch closely for a couple of glimpses of my secret role! @GameOfThrones #ThennsAreComing http://youtu.be/J5iS3tULXMQ

  • Fiona,

isn’t he one of the bald-headed guys? The Thenns? If not, I haven’t spotted him yet. Of course, should he be wearing a wig, this might get difficult.

  • Latecomer perspective

    Roose is a right mess!
Reforging of Narsil, I mean, Ice (I imagined it being much more complicated though)!
    Meereen is amazing!
So many lovely actors (Gwen in particular, I love that laugh, her Tarth gown and also warming to her new blue armour)!
Arya finally gets a horse (also RW survivor?)!

  • cosca: I think in adapting FFC/DWD the show may have no choice. There’s simply too many story lines

I agree. I’m a person who doesn’t like adaptations to stray too far from “canon” though when I first saw the show I hadn’t read any of the books so it didn’t bother me then – but I agree that with so many financial constraints some of the minor characters and action sequences may have to have been cut. I do remember one of D&D [can never remember which is which] saying on a commentary that they had planned to have Robb’s first battle on screen but they ran out of money [even with the massive – compared to other shows – budget they had]. I’d have kind of liked to have seen Mya Stone in the show but it hasn’t happened. Hope the spoilers work this time but if this site is for people who are up to speed on Series 3 I don’t think mentioning that one missing minor character will hurt. The video looks …. intriguing and promising.

  • I get the feeling the show will be doing a who shot JR? thing with Joffrey; feeding into Cersei losing the plot a touch next season. This could really get the mainstream public interested in the way that Ned’s situation did in Season One. The best thing about it is though it will be early in the season so that the show can build the audience for the later episodes.

  • Paul R,

I’m wondering (given he has 2 episodes tops alive and maybe some screen time on his funeral bier) how much screen time Joffrey will be allotted compared to previous seasons. I think in the last 2 seasons he had just under half-an-hour of screen time, and possibly more for season 1 as he was in all 10 episodes. We’ve seen him in 3 or 4 different outfits just for this season, scenes in the White Sword Tower, Baelor’s Sept and the PW reception, and given he’s going to be the real star of that episode, I think he will have at least 20 minutes screen time.

There will also probably be no doubt that it was Littlefinger and the Tyrell’s work, it’s not a detail that’s going to go unnoticed in a show where so many secondary and tertiary characters get their own moments. Olenna will do her “Be brave, child” mummery and Margaery will play along, then they’ll return to their chambers with Loras, who all the time will be scratching his head saying “wait, didn’t Stannis kill him?” like half the unsullied fanbase gone totally meta :)

  • AMAZING…..Budget increase ? AND DROGON ???? Holy CRAP.
Everything looks better than previous seasons.

So much greatness in these 15 minutes…
I refuse to watch the second Trailer and others previews that’s for sure. My mind already explosed with Season 4 !

    I just can’t.

OT : True Detective is a masterpiece. My God.
I don’t even care about The Walking Dead anymore or any other shows.

  • Dammit Patrice,

Very possible. Would explain why Sophie’s getting her haired tied up and why it seems she never changed hair colour during filming. A short black haired wig would mean no necessary changes to her real hair.

  • Is it me, or the scene with the dragon shadow over KL, looks far better than the one in the trailer?…
I still don’t get what that scene is about (a lot of people here said it’s a dream sequence) but GOT doesn’t do “dream sequences” – apart from a Bran scene (the one with the three eyed raven).

  • spacechampion,

    KG,

Maybe this means Tobho will be one of the guest star wildcards this season after all. I am still pretty disappointed about the re-forge, having watched it a few times over. Valyrian Steel is supposed to be a substance only a select few smiths of Qohor can handle, and they just seem to have presented it as no more ordinary than say, Orc weapon crafting in Isengard.

They say “spells”, but what they probably mean is “potions” or even just a certain amount of time at a certain temperature, and the process sometimes comes out with strange results, like the cherry-red glow in Widow’s Wail.

  • House de Laguna,

Maybe they’ll show another one…late february, or even march. There are quite a few new characters to show/explain (even though, at this point, Naharis is not one of them) …they did it in season 3, I guess they’ll do it again….

  • Wow. What a treat.
First of all, I just LOVE the new logo. It’s mindblowing. I’d really like to see a new title sequence, but seeing how the existing one is extremely popular, I won’t really hold my breath.
I, for one, really hope they show as much of Brienne’s journey as possible – I loved reading about it in the books. Also – Gwen’s laughter when describing her weirdest experience – simply irresistable!
My biggest wow moments watching the preview were undoubtedly first glimpse of Meereen (which, as others have described before me) looks much more majestic on screen than in my imagination. Really really impressed.
And Drogon … Just fantastic. I think they’ve decided to go for a bigger scale than described in the books – I believe in ADWD Drogon’s wing span is supposed to be about 6 meters and I think it’s already much bigger than that. But – hey, it’s TV. And I like me a big dragon.
Emilia’s description of Joffrey really made me laugh. “Joffrey as a character … less so.”
One minor thing that I don’t particularly like is Dany’s styling. I’d expect her outfits to be lavish and extravagant but they remain quite minimalistic. I’d prefer her styled in what I’d call a bit more fantastical outfits – but that, as I said, is a really minor – and personal – complaint.
    Awesome start of the week!

  • Bit OT, but I seem to recall that a while back some British singer was cast without really knowing much about his role. Does anyone else remember that? (Not Sigur Ros, obviously. Someone else, and definitely a Brit.) And that time I had been wondering if he could be a substitute for Marillion, since that is a role that would obviously fit a singer! But maybe he’ll just be a musical wilding.

  • Maybe that shot with the Dragon over KL is part of a new intro?
Heck, I love the award winning intro they have, but maybe they switched to Drogon flying all over the locations to signify the growth and importance of the dragons.
Otherwise it is probably a dream or vision. Or maybe Drogon pays his respects at the PW;)

Oh and what an amazng preview. No complaints whatsoever from me…

  • OMFG i cant wait hodor !!

But that little bran got terrible eyes brows and have ginger hairs ..

    wtf??

  • Lana,

Oh true, that’s very possibly as well. People have been suggesting that Yara/Asha will meet Stannis and co. this season so that’s partly why she popped in my head first. I guess we’ll find out in due time.

  • OldeCrone:
    Satin,

Re: the British singer – was it this?http://http://www.buzzfeed.com/lukelewis/did-you-spot-the-coldplay-cameo-in-game-of-thrones-red-weddiAlso I’m sure I read somewhere that Ed Skrein, original Daario, is also a rapper.

The Coldplay guy was for the Red Wedding, and not only Ed Skrein, but also our Grey Worm are rappers, but the guy I’m talking about was for this season. Found the link (thanks to Fury’s twitter): http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Game-Thrones-gig-Leicester-music-star/story-19929678-detail/story.html#axzz2hilSv3OU

He’d be a bit, ah, unusual for “Marillion,” but who knows. Maybe Lysa likes the hairy ones. ;)

  • Also love Iwan Rheon…seems to really enjoy playing Ramsay.

I’m still trying to process Bran’s wig. Its beyond awful…

    Dornish banners…so excited

  • Arian,

spec goes that’s Jaime’s sword Oathkeeper and Joffrey’s sword Widow’s Wail being forged from the Stark Greatsword Ice. Which you may have seen starring in such classics as: Will the Night’s Watch Man’s Beheading Which Is Also Foreshadowing.

  • Have not spotted Ciarán Hinds in any of the previews for season 4… after all Mance should be an important character this season.

A shot of Kate Dickie from season 1, but she should also have a fair presence in season 4.

Keep showing almost the same scene for YaraAsha , the most mysterious plot branch as an invention from the books… that is one subplot I cannot figure out.

  • I can’t stop watching the PW reception stuff. Tumblers, jugglers, stilts, pyro, Lefford banners, Joffrey’s got a man bag at 4:35, Martell sun and spear posts, Margie’s crown, those beautiful stags, roses and lions, the wedding chalice (much smaller than one would imagined it to be), all that food!

It’s like Game of Thrones, directed by Baz Luhrmann, brilliant :)

Deborah Riley, you’ve earned our approval. If I wasn’t a lonely geek with no grasp on relationships, I’d want my wedding to look like that.

Also, they said the wedding takes up about half the episode, so maybe the story does cut away to 2 or 3 other places like in Rains of Castamere, or it could have 20 minutes of KL buildup like in Blackwater. Ooooh, it’s all so exciting whatever happens.

  • I am excited to see how S4 turns out with more climactic events throughout, rather than a build as in previous seasons. I think in S3 they did that with Ep #4 (Dany) and it was awesome… with all the goodies in S4, I can’t wait.

  • yeah margaery ‘marge simpson’ hair style looks awesome.

    lol@ arya quote
-‘ […] nothing is just nothing’
    the dead man is like
-‘why in the seven hell your are torturing my brain ima dying :O ‘
    arya even looks like
    – ‘hmm wtf did i said xD’

  • So it really looks like Grenn is replacing Donal Noye, then, not Alisser Thorne. Wich makes sense if they decide not to cast Bowen Marsh for next seasons.

  • I actually feel so bad for Isaac…
Everyone in the show is getting pretty hair and makeup, then look at what they did to his hair and now he’s getting laughed at by people. It’s like some kind of cruel joke they did to him.

  • Also, I am now rooting for Gwen Christie to play a female Joker in the next Batman movies. That laugh, that large smile and mouth. Such a weird boner right now.

  • Virtus,

Maybe that’s a vision that Bran sees when he touches the tree? Anyone else thinks that? I hope they include those they were interesting to read. Maybe some glimpses of the past and future. Or that scene may be made just to confuse the audience and excite people.

  • Turncloak,

So Bronn takes the place of Ilyn Payne . Hmm, interesting change….. I was wondering about the news that the actor playing Bronn had an injury related to swordfighting … since in the books, this character doesn’t do much, after he weds that fat girl, thus climbing up the social ladder. .
I wonder if they’ll keep him at Jamie’s side from now on …

  • On that wide aerial shot of King’s Landing (with the puzzling dragon shadow tease), can anyone spot any setting that was used in a scene in previous seasons, or even were the wedding feast is taking place? Is it possible to pin a particuliar place and say ‘this is where this and that happened’ or is it all a bit bullshit? I’m talking about the surroundings of the Red Keep, especially.

I can’t even spot the Sept. Or where the riots take place in S02.

  • Boojam,

IMO, they only showed scenes regarding the attack from the south…hence no Mance scenes required.
The only scene regarding the Wildlings north of the Wall, was that scene with the big guy (giant) slamming into the gate, inside the tunnel.
Maybe they’ll show him in a final trailer (sometime in late March)….

  • Fatio Corcyn,

I don’t think that’s a real aerial view of Dubrovnik, actually. More likely put together from several parts, with added CGI.

I was able to watch some of the feature in slo-mo (shut up, as if you wouldn’t), and what can I say, I suspect everyone pressed for Sansa dying her hair may get their wish after all. I think that person with LF at 13:16 might indeed be Sophie with an atrocious wig and some odd high-collared ensemble. It might simply happen after Lysa is dead and they leave the Eyrie.

  • 1) Meereen looks AWESOME!
    2) EAR-BITING!!!!
    3) Nickolaj & Peter dancing down the steps was priceless
    4) I think we got a hint of Hazzeah

  • In the Great Sept scene there are a few elderly men in Lannister armor in the back row. I desperately hope that one of them is Kevan.

  • I have no problem with Jaime taking over Kevan’s role. From Peter Dinklage comments in the preview that might be the case. Dinklage talks about the love btw Jaime and Tyrion. That might develop that relationship as Jaime becomes his trial advisor

  • It looks good. Let’s hope they deliver on the promise of this trailer.

Drogon was pretty cool but he looked better last season imo. Not that D&D can help it of course, I think it’s a lot more difficult to make a credible big beast with CGI (compared to a relativly small dragon). Let’s hope the VFX team has found a way around the size hurdle.

They can either cast Mads Mikkelsen as Euron in my new world or die in their old one

  • Hodor’s Odor:
Oh btw , is sansa touching herself in that bed at 9:44o_O!?

That’s what I saw in my first view but I just hoped my mind was playing tricks on me dammit! That’s something I do not want to see on tv :-(. Especially for a character playing a minor.

  • Fatio Corcyn:
Also, I am now rooting for Gwen Christie to play a female Joker in the next Batman movies. That laugh, that large smile and mouth. Such a weird boner right now.

Hmm female Joker. Do you mean Harley Quinn?

  • Btw, the scene with Melisandre, which also appeared in the trailer, is her talking to Shireen not Gilly or Yara. The person in front of Mel has her hair braided, which is the same style Shireen wore last season.

  • Considering Jaime’s line(: Careful, I’m your last friend, ) it seems to be logical that Jaime will replace Kevan this season, and actually it kind of makes sense given the relationship between Jaime and Tyrion and the former’s early return to the capital. I’m fine with it as long as they bring Kevan back for Season 5.

  • Turncloak,

    Is she?

I didn’t think that way from the first time I saw it and now I can’t watch the video to confirm. And no caps in WiC’s tumblr.

  • Seriano:
    Turncloak,

    Is she?

I didn’t think that way from the first time I saw it and now I can’t watch the video to confirm. And no caps in WiC’s tumblr.

Of course not. Why on earth would they have a scene like that?

  • Satin:

Or more likely, LF is talking to someone from the Vale that he actually has a storyline with, like Lysa or one of the lords, rather than a character he has nothing to do with, who’s in a different location and extremely unlikely to get to the Vale, and who LF has no reasons to have any interest in.

(WTF is going on with the quote function?)

  • slammin salmon:
Anyone have any thoughts on the fact that they are saying Oberyn is using his “invitation to the wedding” as an excuse to come to kings landing, rather than saying he was coming to sit on the small council?Tyrion even asks him why he has come to kings landing…shouldnt he of all people know the answer tot hat question? Maybe it is a way for them to get around having to introduce Doran and the other Dornish?Could be nothing but that kinda struck me a little.

Indeed it’s little stuff like that which annoy the crap out of me. How hard is it to include this line “Tyrion: I seem to have remembered that I invited your brother Doran to take his place in the small council in exchange for princess Myrcella’s safety. Oberyn: my brother is busy at the moment so I took his place and their are debts that must be paid Lannister.Jesus filching Christ, the writers seem to think their viewers have the memory of a goldfish.

  • Seriano:

    Is she?

I doubt the wic’s tumblr would include that scene lol

And it’s a really logical change, since the show hasn’t really shown the love between Jaime and Tyrion before. In the books, we have their thoughts and memories, but I don’t think the Unsullied could see it in the show.

  • Turncloak: Indeed it’s little stuff like that which annoy the crap out of me. It doesnt sound compromised for me.

Oberyn could well be in KL to take his seat at the small council and Tyrion could, very quickly ask him, why did he truly come, instead of his brother.

  • Annara Snow:

What, Sansa? (Read one of my posts a bit further down, theories have been evolving.)

  • Satin:

Why would Sophie wear a short wig over long hair? And why would Alayne Stone want to wear such fugly short hairdo – she’s supposed to be his bastard daughter, not a prisoner. ;)

I’m gonna go with Occam’s Razor and think it’s someone else. It’s not like she’s the only person he ever interacts with.

  • Satin: What, Sansa? (Read one of my posts a bit further down, theories have been evolving.)

I was commenting on your idea that he was talking to Gendry, for whatever unfathomable reason.

  • Seriano:
    Satin,

Well, that was my first thought. That’s why I’m asking.

I doubt they would randomly add a scene of Sansa getting busy with herself. Sometimes people simply see a girl in bed and get a little overly excited. If you know what I mean.

  • Annara Snow: Why would Sophie wear a short wig over long hair? And why would Alayne Stone want to wear such fugly short hairdo – she’s supposed to be his bastard daughter, not a prisoner. ;)

I’m gonna go with Occam’s Razor and think it’s someone else. It’s not like she’s the only person he ever interacts with.

Of course not, but there are only so many people he’ll be grabbing by the shoulder while looking deeply into their eyes. Why would it bother you if it was Sansa? We know that she dyes her hair in the books. They could easily put a wig on her on the show instead.

  • Satin:
    cosca,

I don’t think that will happen. You can do that kind of thing in a book, but not on a TV series with a character and actor who are really popular. Especially if Gwendoline is a regular this year, and I would bet on it.

Besides, it wouldn’t work timeline-wise. Unless the entire season 5 lasts for a few weeks, which I’m sure it won’t, it doesn’t make sense for Brienne to meet Jaime after so much time has passed since she was captured by LS. She doesn’t need a year to travel to where he is.

  • Satin: Of course not, but there are only so many people he’ll be grabbing by the shoulder while looking deeply into their eyes. Why would it bother you if it was Sansa? We know that she dyes her hair in the books. They could easily put a wig on her on the show instead.

It wouldn’t “bother” me, I just don’t think it’s her. Unless Sansa has decided to try the Arya trick of impersonating a boy, which seems to be the only reason girls in Westeros decide to cut their hair short, and that really wouldn’t work out for her…

  • Annara Snow: It wouldn’t “bother” me, I just don’t think it’s her. Unless Sansa has decided to try the Arya trick of impersonating a boy, which seems to be the only reason girls in Westeros decide to cut their hair short, and that really wouldn’t work out for her…

    That’s definitely true.

Picking trailers apart is mostly a deduction game. And given what we know – both Sansa and Baelish are in the Eyrie, he’s creepy with her, she is sort of disguised in the books, this person being Sansa with a wig simply made the most sense. I mean, it’s not going to be Sweetrobin’s actor after a sudden, massive growth spurt, that makes him almost as big as Aiden Gillen. Nor do I think LF would look at him in quite this smarmy pseudo-friendly way.

  • Boojam,

This preview alone proves a number of things: Yara will definitely reach the Dreadfort- if there was any doubt before, there isn’t now. In this preview we can see her assaulting a guy with her classic ax! It’s almost certainly her in that shot, and it would be a safe guess that she is in the Dreadfort. After that, we see a bloody Ramsay that seems extremely mad burst into Reek’s prison cell- probably because his sister is responsible.

My guess for the Ramsay/Yara/Theon storyline goes as such:
E1-2: Yara on the ship, Theon being Reek (eating a rat?), Ramsay hunting
E3-4: Yara on the longboats. She attacks the Dreadfort, Ramsay gets pissed at Theon and uses him as leverage against her
E5-6: Yara retreats and gets pursued by Ramsay and Reek. Ramsay and Reek stop at Harrenhall where they meet Roose while Yara runs off to Moat Cailin. Roose decides to attack Moat Cailin and remove the Ironborn from the Neck.
E7-8: Yara reaches Moat Cailin, where she figures out about her father’s death and about the upcoming Kingsmoot (this is a bit of a stretch, I guess) and heads to Pyke on a ship (from Moat Cailin) for Daddy’s funeral. The Boltons assault Moat Cailin, using Reek to deceive the Ironborn and flush them out (keep in mind that Reek still thinks it’s his sister he’s going to betray, which says a lot about his character).
E10: Setting up for season 5. The Boltons return to Harenhall where they speak of future plans to go to Winterfell and marry Ramsay to a certain fake someone. Meanwhile, Yara is on the way to Pyke (though I don’t think we’ll see much of this, if at all)

This does a great job of building up the involved characters (mainly Yara, who will be important in season 5) as well as setting up upcoming storylines. I think the whole point of this detour is to give a more realized face to Reek’s betrayal and the whole Moat Cailin buisness as well as to get the viewers to like Yara so they will have someone to root for in the Kingsmoot (and so there will be a familiar face in the Iron Islands story).

If Yara gets intercepted by Stannis, you lose all of that and gain… nothing. My “theory” ties together Moat Cailin and Yara’s assault on the Dreadfort which I just don’t think can come apart (I can’t imagine Ramsay saying “oh, Yara just attacked! let’s go on a trip to the riverlands!”). Honestly, if Yara isn’t at the Kingsmoot I doubt there would be one at all- having Stannis pick her up early is only a sensible decision if her being with Stannis is absolutely important to the story but making this shortcut also means that there will only be new faces at the potential Iron Islands story. Alongside Dorne, which is already a completely new plotline, I doubt we’ll see the Iron Islands get there own screen time (too many new characters, and no old ones to help casual viewers and non-readers in general understand what’s what). Also, that one shot with Melisandre is just not enough- it could just as easily be Gilly, or the woman Mel burns and NOT Yara.

  • Turncloak,

Yeah I agree. I like that there is lots of screen time for Jaime in season 4 but they will have to bring in Kevan in season 5 for those scenes when Cersei is on trial. I also hope Kevan at least appears in season 4, perhaps at the Wedding and I hope they make it apparent that he is Tywin’s brother because none of my show-only friends know that he exists.

  • Please can that Arya smile at the end be abandoning Sandor to die. It’s not how I imagined it, but it would work.

(I’ve been waiting four years for them to mess that scene up somehow…)

  • By the way, did I comment on just how awesome that preview was? No? Well: HELL FUCKING YEAH! This season will be the best GoT season to date and very possibly the best GoT season ever. Drogon is a PIMP, Meereen looks mouthwateringly awesome, Bran’s hair doesn’t look as bad as people say (still bad though, hopefully it’s the wind). Jon and Sam, Tyrion and Jamie, Brienne tuning in to her inner Mike Tyson… every character, set and scene has me excited for the next season! I have never been this excited for a TV show, I think. And the best thing is that there is a 99% chance that I will not be disappointed (going by what we’ve seen so far). They seem to be getting all the big scenes right, which is all I care about in the end (even if there are a few hiccups on the road). It seems like every critique I had about season 3 was addressed this time around, which makes me very happy :)

This is exactly how I feel right now:

They could bring Kevan for Tywin’s funeral

  • It’s really interesting that beneath Drogon theres both a goat and what appears to be a kid.

I don’t remember if we ever got to know whether Drogon really burned that child, or if it was the sons of the harpy that did, so they could blame the dragons for it.

But here it seems as though they might make it an accident – that Drogon was hunting the goat, then without meaning to, burned the kid – goatherder? instead.

  • Can anyone tell if that is the same Qyburn from last season with Jamie? For the life of me, I can’t figure it out.

  • I am floored by this behind the scenes video, just too much information to digest. The editors did a great job with that Drogon snippet at the end. I at first thought he was the same size because of the illusion with the goat in the foreground. Then after watching that GIF and the Drogon in comparison to the herder, damn, he has grown 10X the size from last season. He is already twice the size of the Drogon from the pit, which is a good thing.

Two items that really piqued my interest were … Jaime and Brienne post KL, they are filming out in rural area (Iceland or NI), which to me indicates they travel together again. Then the girl in the tunnels, is she the one hunted by Ramsey/Myranda or is she going to be fake Arya?
I am glad Charlotte Hope is in again, I want her to become a staple for the tv adaption. There is just something about her I cannot explain, she is mezmerizing (charismatic) whenever she is on screen.

  • Dragon looked good. But I have been playing Skyrim lateley and I am in that position a fair bit so not really a wow factor.
    All of the rest, Wow.

Recommend Skyrim to anyone interested in an RPG
    – assasins guild – check
    – ally with nords or legion – check
    – ability to switch sides at critical point – check
    – dead getting up – check
    – Dragons

That is in first person. Can also do it third person.

  • KG,

Fair point, I should just wait ’til the World of Ice and Fire book comes out and hope it’ll reveal the secrets of the process (something involving dragonfire I’m sure).

To restore balance of geekarma, I thought the hilts looked wicked ;)

  • Satin,

I don’t think it’s necessarily too tall to be Robin. The kid that played him was like 12 in Season 1, and we haven’t seen him since. I could see him growing to be that tall by 15.

  • Valyrian Plastic,

    They did indeed!

Part of me appreciates that everyone has these fabulous weapons that absolutely no regard is given to, screentime-wise (Which makes sense. You wouldn’t spend 30 seconds focused on a fireman’s axe) but the sword fan in me would like to see some details now and then!

  • Arian,

They are reforging Ned Stark’s Valyrian Steel sword “Ice”. The new sword that emerges out of the reforged “Ice” would be handed over to Brienne by Jamie. The new sword will be named as ” Oathkeeper” and Brienne will take the sword and would move on in her search for Arya and Sansa.

  • Are you guys being serious about Sansa masturbating or are you joking around? We’re not talking about a child character here, we’re talking about an underage actress. I don’t think a scene like that is even legal.

Speaking of Sansa. I know some people are very keen on all things hair around here, but if they didn’t dye her hair until the snow castle scene, where she’s clearly still sporting her red tresses, they’re not gonna cut her hair and make her look like she’s trying to hide something, after the only person who knew for sure who she was is dead. The only women who have short hair on the show are either warriors/knights (Brienne, Yara) or girls who’re trying to hide something (Arya). So cutting her hair will draw more attention towards her and make people more suspicious about who she is and what happened to her, it won’t make make them ignore her. And the clothes look manly. She’s supposed to play his bastard daughter, not son.
Plus, Littlefinger always looks at people like he’s trying to do nasty things to them with a broom, it’s not just Sansa. Just look at his scenes with Varys. That person could be anyone from the Vale.

Oh and Sophie was getting her hair dyed red again (red hair dye washes off very fast), not tied up for you know what.

  • KG,

Is it wrong that every time I watch Ned losing his head, I mime Ser Ilyn’s killing stroke? :0. I seldom go 5 minutes these days without doing some sort of air parry, which comes from years of watching Star Wars I guess.

  • Matt,

not really. I saw a recent picture of him where he was still pretty tiny, and his imdb entry lists him as 5’1, making him about Maisie’s height. And he’s 13 now.

I honestly can’t guess who it is, so I’m simply setting for Varys in one of his amazing disguises.

    Hand of the king,

I have to concede this one to you. LF does indeed always look at people like he wants to do evil things to them with a broom. I guess I got carried away by all the hair talk. I think we should collectively open a hair salon…

  • Satin: There are two scenes of him talking to someone with their back turned to the camera.

My money is on Lysa Arryn, with shorter hair.

Heck, I’d even say that this is the Only Cat scene.

  • Can someone tell me what the background music when Kit was talking about Jon’s relationship with Sam is ? Is it a soundtrack from one of the last 3 seasons or a new one for season 4? Thank you!

  • Is there any confirmation if the brotherhood without banners will return? Can’t find anything about Richard Dormer or Paul Kaye.

  • Greenjones,

I forgot about that pic. You’re right. ;)

Second wild guess, then: this is Robin Arryn, and Littlefinger is just kneeling to talk to him face to face. ;p

  • Does anyone know the name of the industrial song at the very beginning of the preview? And the artist who created it?

  • zod,

My assumption is still that its Sweetrobin and that LF is kneeling/crouching. Perhaps he’s telling him “my wife’s teats are off-bounds now”.

    Dickon Manwoody,

Well there were a few people on twitter who said that they spotted Paul Kaye in Belfast in the summer, I think, and they said that he had Thoros hair. I don’t know if there was any mention of Dormer being about, but he is Irish himself and could likely get to the set without much to-do. Game of Thrones wiki cited him as coming back based on one of those flicksandthecity interviews. I don’t take those as proper confirmation, but I see it is as very likely that he will return.

  • Greenjones: “my wife’s teats are off-bounds now”.

“You’ll never take them! No one will!” cried Sweetrobin, then began he another one of his shaking spells and wet himself.

That might be too much to ask Lino to do though, unless he gets some kind of rig set up. Whatever they do, they should establish Robin as barely fit to stand, let alone rule a kingdom.

  • Satin: There are two scenes of him talking to someone with their back turned to the camera. One is Sansa. The other is seen here: http://wicnet.tumblr.com/image/76194576256.

I wonder…would they drop Harry the Heir and have Baelish betroth Sansa to Gendry?

  • Deme: I wonder…would they drop Harry the Heir and have Baelish betroth Sansa to Gendry?

I don’t think so, I mean, Gendry can’t really inherit anything. Harry the Heir, however, definitely can. Besides, by now people have come to the convincing conclusion that person No. 2 is Varys, er, Sweetrobin, and that LF is kneeling while addressing him.

  • Random thought: I know this season’s 9th episode isn’t supposed to be the only dramatic climax this season, but given that we know the Battle for Castle Black is going to be the only thing occurring that episode, and considering the slightly more dynamic role of Ygritte in the show as compared to the books, do you think they may make the creative decision to have Jon be the one who kills Ygritte? It would add more drama to the moment (obviously) and make sure the 9th ep drama is on par with other seasons.

  • Canis Dirus,

It has been discussed before. I personally would prefer a more ambiguous conclusion to Ygritte. I don’t want Jon to stabb her or anything like that.

  • Why is everyone assuming the making of Oathkeeper and Widow’s Wail is wrong? Ned Stark had a greatsword on the show famously, yes. But I don’t think it was ever mentioned that it was called Ice, or that it was Valyrian Steel, or that Janos Slynt took it, or that Ilyn Payne took it from him when he got sent to the wall. Those swords might not even be Valyrian Steel, we’ve seen Oathkeeper and their were no ripples.

    Dutch maester,

If Kevan isn’t in season 5, they can build up Pycelle to be the person healing the realm, keeping the Tyrells and the Faith happy. Making him an active saviour of house Lannister, so it’ll mean more when he dies.

  • Hand of the Kingslayer,

I 100% agree. Just curious how people felt about the possibility. The ambiguity would allow the final “You know nothing Jon Snow” to be a much better moment, rather than seeing Ygritte like we did in ep. 10 of season 3 with nothing but anger towards Jon.

  • cosca,

nope, mostly that’s just me being really upset that something I really, really hoped wouldn’t happen did, and that the show ocntinues its excellent track of cutting my favorite characters and scenes.

So, you know, just an opinion, with just as much merit as yours

  • I didn’t recognise it at first because I always thought it’d happen at night, but is that scene of Sansa running away from something Sansa running to the godswood/the docks after the PW?

And that Cersei and Jaime scene looked amazing, I’m excited for every aspect of them being together

ALSO I’M SO EXCITED ABOUT SAM BEING IN THE UNDERGROUND LIBRARY!!!

That’s also Hizdahr at 5:32, although you only really see his silhouette

  • Liz,

    lol no, it’s not.

What the scene is about? Ramsay possibly after finishing a hunt or after battling Yara, who knows.

  • House Mormont:

Yeah that’s what I thought about that clip of Sansa as well.

    Good eye, that’s definitely him.

  • Ozymandias:
AMAZING…..Budget increase ? AND DROGON ???? Holy CRAP.
Everything looks better than previous seasons.

So much greatness in these 15 minutes…
I refuse to watch the second Trailer and others previews that’s for sure. My mind already explosed with Season 4 !

    I just can’t.

OT : True Detective is a masterpiece. My God.
I don’t even care about The Walking Dead anymore or any other shows.

Yep, Oz, True Detective is awesome :highfive:

  • I think all the scenes were great , as GOT is great . But , after all this , GOT is going to catch up with George RR Martin and then what ? I wish he would hurry up in writing the last two books >>>

  • Okay guys I need your help about this:

Don’t you think that the person Littlefinger is talking to on this gif (http://i.imgur.com/mBAmqXI.gif) could be Sansa after her tranformation into Alayne Stone ???
The person is definately too tall to be little Robin Arryn !

    I’m so excited !

  • Liz,

He looks more like the guy they announced as playing Ralf Kenning, but even that’s pretty unlikely. He’s probably just an extra, or he may turn out to be Yellow Dick or Sour Alyn or someone completely new.

  • Anyone have ideas on how the beginning (Ep1/2) of Sansa’s season will look? The afters of the PW can be mostly predicted but I’m not sure about he Dontos parts mainly, how will they re-introduce him and make it believable that she trusts him? This could be a long post, sorry in advance.

Personally, I think it’s possible they may pull one of those TV “Don’t show anything until the time is right” surprises. I’ve seen a few but can’t recall any examples beside Chuck from a few years ago, Chuck and Sansa are sort of in a similar situation too. Chuck was trapped in the spy world and was being used. Chuck spoilers ahead :P

A whole season and many episodes went by and Chuck seemed to just be dealing with problems day by day and doing what he was ordered to do. You never had any idea otherwise until this great twist at the end of one episode that revealed he was forming his own plan and keeping track of everything and everyone around him. LINK

The preview shows a Sansa/Tyrion dinner scene, I’m assuming it’s in ep1 since they don’t have much time together.

From the video you can see that Sansa’s hair is up at the wedding and is possibly wearing a different purple dress so this is looks like a seperate scene. Her hair though is the exact same in the dinner scene and the running through the bushes scene shown HERE and HERE.

What if all this time since Season 2 episode 1, Sansa has been secretly meeting Dontos and creating an escape plan all the while playing her part and pretending to be stupid to everyone around her (Like her actions in the entirety of Season 3). The second gif to me really looks more like a “Got to meet secretly quick” than a “Quick! I have to escape now” motion. Maybe she asks to be pardoned from the meal and goes to visit Dontos. A simple “I can’t keep pretending to be stupid and risking my life to meet you, I need to get out of here” “You will be free after the wedding” blah blah blah could work

It could work, it could be horrible. With all the other scenes we’ve seen and what we know of the books I don’t see much time to re-introduce Dontos any other way but that’s why I’m not a writer :)

  • Nick_Scryer,

Very interesting thought. I always thought that trying to reintroduce Dontos in one episode before the Wedding was going to be a mess, but this might work.

  • Nick_Scryer,

    jentario,

What if that scene where Tyrion’s trying to comfort Sansa in the gardens leads to her asking to be excused. She then hears a rustling, and who should bound out the bushes but one Dontos Hollard, And he promises to help her for the saving his life. That would be early on in episode 1, then the last scene is him coming back later on with the hairnet, and she says “What is it?”, and he’s says “It’s home!” [cut to black, roll credits]. How about that?

  • Clemence:

You’re me a few hours ago!

Actually, we think Littlefinger might be kneeling, so that’s most likely Sweetrobin after all. Observe how he first looks at the person and then looks to the side and up, which would fit him crouching/kneeling in this scene.

  • Fatio Corcyn:
On that wide aerial shot of King’s Landing (with the puzzling dragon shadow tease), can anyone spot any setting that was used in a scene in previous seasons, or even were the wedding feast is taking place? Is it possible to pin a particuliar place and say ‘this is where this and that happened’ or is it all a bit bullshit? I’m talking about the surroundings of the Red Keep, especially.
I can’t even spot the Sept. Or where the riots take place in S02.

We design the VFX shots for King’s Landing.
It’s all pretty accurate, in which we take great pride, so thanks for asking.

We’ve been using the same 3D model of the Red Keep ever since S2, with only minor changes. Our rough 3D model of King’s landing also remains pretty consistent. However, we do have to adapt them when new locations are being introduced or certain sets dictate those alterations.

If you look carefully, you’ll see that the remarkable S1 gate of the Red Keep with the corkscrew pillars and the Baratheon Stag head is still around. With great regrets, we had to modify the lowest yard behind it a bit by comparison with S1 as a result of an overall reshuffling of elements for the improved S2 model.

Slightly up on the right side the where Joffrey’s nameday tournament took place in S2. The small tower between the tiny yard and the lower yard was damaged in the Battle of Blackwater Bay and had to be repaired during S3.
The S4 wedding is imagined to take place in the park areas right under the main building mass, but as the pavillions aren’t permanent, you don’t see them in the Dragon shot.

The king’s private marina, from which Margarey was sent away, would be further to the right along the walls, but is not visible in this shot. It’s right under the bastion from which Tyrion and Varys discuss gods in S2 – about 1/5 of the way towards Mud Gate. That’s also where the riots were. I believe a glimpse of it is in this footage, 0:24, far left side, but it’s very much in the shade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE4D0attDaw

The amphitheatre from 00:37 of the Foreshadowing feature would be further to the left along and below the city walls.

The Sept is much further away from the Red Keep and cannot be seen in the aerial shot, but there’s a chance that there might be a shot where the spacial relationship between these landmarks in the urban context will be explained.

The only shot that, in the overall context of all seasons thus far, really doesn’t work out any more is the tourney ground shot of S1 – taking place in the Kingswood accross the bay, the red keep would be much smaller – probably entirely obscured by the trees.

  • I should add, as a little kid I was deeply impressed with Karen Wynn Fonstad’s Atlas of Middle earth, in which an outsider could reconstruct the geological history of Middle Earth only based on the “facts” Tolkien worked into his books. That’s the level of accuracy and consistency we strive for in our own work, knowing that there are fanatics out there who will take our imagination to the test. We don’t want to fail them.

  • tmannewitz,

Hi there, and thanks for commenting! Assuming you aren’t a fake, I have to say I love what you/your team have done with the CGI locations this far. That shot of Meereen looks fantastic, and I assume that is also your doing. Well done and keep up the good work!

  • Myrish Swmapert,

    Myrish,

The Sullied all know that Bran is the lamest character of the story. Even a master storyteller like GRRM is going to strike out every once in a while. Better to let that character die ASAP

  • Hand of the Kingslayer,

In parts – We did the concept for it, i.e. size of the pyramids, what is where, how will the real sets integrate with the overall cityscape. But the actual matte painting was then probably done by Pixomondo. I believe I recognize the handwriting of our much beloved collague Sven Sauer in this piece, and I am just as impressed with it as everyone else. :)

  • cosca:
    somuchforoldtown,

I agree that Bran and his story is pretty boring, but he doesn’t even come close to Areo Hotah, Damphair or Quentyn Martell levels of dull

I like the Damphair, honestly. And Areo works more as an observer to Doran, so if we get Doran, we’ll get Areo as a side character. Quentyn, well, yeah…

  • Hounded:
    Turncloak,

Yeah I agree. I like that there is lots of screen time for Jaime in season 4 but they will have to bring in Kevan in season 5 for those scenes when Cersei is on trial. I also hope Kevan at least appears in season 4, perhaps at the Wedding and I hope they make it apparent that he is Tywin’s brother because none of my show-only friends know that he exists.

I hope he does as well, again, perhaps at the funeral. I think it’s odd that the largest focus here remains on who has not shown up yet, and it’s centered around Ian Gelder, who takes on more importance later, but jeez. Either way, the producers have been fairly careful about characters to eliminate and those to keep, be they small parts or not, so the idea that they’d introduce Kevan in Season 1 only to ignore him later doesn’t seem like their MO. They did away with Strong Belwas because he’s a pointless sideline and doesn’t change the story. They cut Jacelyn Bywater in favor of strengthening Bronn’s character. They left the Reeds out until they needed them, and then brought them in. They seem to have completely chopped out the Florents, because, really, who fucking cares. But they threw in a five-second reference to Beric Dondarrian in Season 1 just to come back around to it a whole lot later. They could have probably cut Craster in Season 2, but they didn’t. Janos Slynt and Alliser Thorne are returning. They’ll have the Magnar of Thenn this year, having cut him last year in part because I think they see the growing relationship between Tormund Giantsbane and Jon Snow as more important. The rest of the Greyjoys haven’t shown up yet, but for us Sullied we’re well aware of the importance of them (particularly Victarion) so I imagine that we’ll get them. Doran Martell might have to be a hastily sketched in character – even as a late-Season 5 add – but he’ll show up. Quentyn is another matter – again, he’s a closed-loop and doesn’t add much insight. I can see him being chopped completely.

Kevan doesn’t need to do much. We’re aware he’s Tywin’s brother or can be made aware of it easily enough, and we’d need just a mention of him by Cersei as “our Uncle has returned” along with, really, 1 key scene – where he tells her he knows the truth and demands she leave for Casterly Rock or else (early Season 5), and then later the crossbow.

Turncloak: Indeed it’s little stuff like that which annoy the crap out of me.

Did you see the episode yet? Do you know what the entirety of the dialogue is? Settle down, Beavis.

  • Forgive me if I’m late to the party, but there is a scene of what look like Night’s Watch men racing up to defend a gate and the scene is shot from a high angle, possibly to insinuate that they’re holding their position against agiant

Also, it looked like Grenn led the charge, leading me to believe that he could act as a fill-in for Donal Noye?

    What do you guys think?

  • tmannewitz,

Epic post. Thanks so much for sharing. The attention to detail with regards to the geography is interesting, and a real show of commitment on the part of the people involved with bringing this show to life.

You mentioned that the company you work with is involved in realizing King’s Landing, but do (or did) you work on any of the other locations and/or city-scapes? Would be very interested to hear about it, and hopefully you’ll stick around to provide further insights.

    Cheers.

  • Oz of Thrones:
Let me just say that this show including the sets, the locations, the costumes, and the production (among other things) never cease to amaze me.

I’ve honestly never seen anything like it.

15 minutes of pure epic. If you guys are interested in an Unsullied review of the featurette, holla.

    Come on April.

    Yes, please!

  • Is the young boy at the Wall going to be a show-canon version for Satin? He already appeared in a 3 or 4 different scenes!

  • GreatJon of Slumber: I believe among Robb’s list of demands to the Lannisters in “Fire and Blood” (Or was it “The North Remembers”? was that his father’s “greatsword Ice” be returned to them.

So we have a name, just no mention of Valyrian steel. Guess they didn’t want to associate it with the V Steel dagger maybe?

    GreatJon of Slumber,

Honestly, and this might be just because I love the character, I think it’s important that Kevan appears again before Tywin dies, to follow him around and agree with everything he says, or do something that shows he’s his loyal servant. Because the best thing about him in affc is that Cersei expects him to be her loyal follower too and he tells her and her incest affair to go back to Casterly Rock so he can rule instead. GO KEVAN. If he doesn’t appear before Tywin dies, idk if that’ll work so much, and the rest of his role can be taken by Pycelle.

  • Fred Lannister,

in short: yes. It is a cinematic situation, and while I’d be as sad to be losing Grenn as I was in the books losing Donal Noye, this is still one of the most badass ways to go ever.

  • Dark Heart,

definitely not Edmure. I believe we actually have it confirmed by Tobias Menzies that he wasn’t called this season which would line up with his book storyline.

And I agree with the others that the lady is most likely Yara storming the Dreadfort or whatever.

  • Fred Lannister,

Seems legit. I was hoping Thorne would replace Noye. I don’t want to see Grenn go :( his dynamic with Pyp is priceless. Either way, where is Dlorous Edd?!

  • Hand of the Kingslayer:
    Fred Lannister,

I’m pretty sure I saw him in one of the scenes with Jon and Grenn. Edd’s not dead yet! And yeah, same here. Still, a really cool death. Worthy opponent and all that…

  • Satin,

Fair enough. Obviously Grenn is “one of the good guys” in Martin’s world, whereas I don’t think we’ve met Noye (Unless he was a once-off player in the first season) on the show, so I’d expect if he IS replacing Noye, it’s to drive home an emotional point to the viewer.

  • Fred Lannister,

One of the great things about being one of the Sullied, is watching friends refer to Edd as “That guy who’s always complaining”, where as the book reader has a much deeper connection to the character knows him to be . . . well . . . the guy’s who’s always complaining.

  • Satin,

I guess that’s true. And he does essentially disappear into the background in the books anyway. A good way to go out for sure.

    Michel,

Good guess! I like it, and never thought of it that way. He could essentially fill Satin’s role but I doubt he IS Satin.

  • Now that we have had some glimpses, we can peel the onion on what we have seen. I am interested in Bronn, if he trains Jaime, then does he also accompany Jamie to Riverrun? or does Bronn get killed at some point this season. 50/50 to me at this point.

  • Fred Lannister,

I don’t think we ever got Noye. I remember Tyrion getting his lines about Jon having grown up better than the others, etc.

    Michel,

That’s why I think it might happen. They’d want to make it count.

  • Fred Lannister,

Yeah, there was a particular line in ASOS I hope they include where Edd discusses a battle at the Shadow Tower where one of the NW falls off a bridge. If I had the quote handy I would post that shit.

  • I want to see a post with funny tweets just for this 15-minute special! Bring back the Twitfeed! I miss it!

  • tmannewitz,

As the castle guy in these parts, I am the guy who takes you to test, and you have never failed. Out of all of them….let’s see..(thinking)….I wanted more dragons on Dragonstone. However, I think that’s more about me and what’s in my head than what has been-brilliantly-accomplished.
And now a fan plea: Please tell me we are going to Dorne sometime in the future. I long to see…The water gardens..Sunspear..*sigh* I remain hopeful. I have to say you guys are the award winning bomb! Keep up that great, great work!

    The North Remembers….

  • Hand of the Kingslayer,

Not sure if it’s a spoiler since it’s not a show character but I put spoilers on:

“I never win anything,” Dolorous Edd complained. “The gods always smiled on Watt, though. When the wildlings knocked him off the Bridge of Skulls, somehow he landed in a nice deep pool of water. How lucky was that, missing all those rocks?”
“Was it a long fall?” Grenn wanted to know. “Did landing in the pool of water save his life?”
“No,” said Dolorous Edd. “He was dead already, from that axe in his head. Still, it was pretty lucky, missing the rocks.”

  • Tenesmus:

Definitely off to Riverrun. I think Jerome Flynn has been one of the most popular side characters, and I bet they’d off main characters left and right before they off Bronn. He’d probably even survive Tyrion, Dany and Arya combined.

I’m also a fan of his rant about whoever threw in a vote for him as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

Either way, this is one minor character they’ve done a nice job with anyway.

“We were having a serious conversation.” — response to Sam, who interrupts his blather about his mother farting as she died.

“They were stupid. Smart people don’t find themselves in a place like this.”

“Whatever you do, before I die, just stop talking.”

  • tmannewitz,

Thanks so much for sharing! As far as tv goes, the amount of care which the production team puts into realizing a world of such enormous scale right down to the smallest details is truly unprecedented.
Do you think you could clue us into the apparent disparity between Dragonstone’s appearance between the show opening, season 3 and the brief silhouettes of season 2?

  • General thoughts (besides it being a cool preview):

I still say that Sansa will dye her hair at some point, just probably not this season. Although, I don’t think that was Sansa Littlefinger is talking to in that picture, and am not sure it was Sweetrobin either.

I kind of think the weird Bran wig was some kind of trolling (or Isaac picked up a wig on set) or else something that will somehow be used for a special effect, since Bran seems to have his normal hair during that shot with Hodor and the weirwood tree.

Got a kick out of Gwen’s commentary, although I am a bit worried that it could mean that Brienne’s plot this season will end up where it ended up at the end of a Feast For Crows, although I’d like to think that it just means another encounter with Locke, perhaps followed by his meeting the Mountain.

LOL at John Bradley-West’s story about being chased by the cart.

I’m not worried by the lack of Bran and Stannis in the trailer or the lack of appearance of Mance, as it seems to me that in all those cases, these are characters that have few scenes in the season, but the ones they do, are really spoilery moments. I mean yeah, the preview shows Wildings attacking the Watch/Jon’s plot and shows that Tyrion ends up in trouble, but neither of those are really a spoiler per se (although with the latter, I think many Unsullied could make a correct guess about the circumstances of that).

  • In this thread: Americans freaking out YET AGAIN over the concept of somebody who’s fully legal in her own country (and in half the states in your country) being a sexual being.

No, Sansa is not masturbating in that scene, because it would be stupid.

But some of you actually think it would be illegal for a 17-year-old actress to make faces and rustle bedsheets onscreen? I don’t understand your brain.

  • Jordan: nd shows that Tyrion ends up in trouble, but neither of those are really a spoiler per se (although with the latter, I think many Unsullied could make a correct guess about the circumstances of that).

This has been telegraphed, too – since episode 8 and the leeches, the clock has been ticking for Joffrey, and it got much faster after the RW. Most people now expect Joffrey to die, I think, and Tyrion being a suspect is only logical.

But for others? We got Bran mind-melding a tree, Yara’s men rowing, and Stannis glowering in the trailer and the featurette. If you aren’t Sullied you wouldn’t guess that Sansa is with LF or in the Vale, or that Pod will eventually end up with Brienne. The same way, we don’t know if Mance, Gendry and the minor Lannisters are chilling somewhere just outside the frame, or how Shae’s storyline will play out in context of the show, likely because all of that is a bit too spoilery.

  • Satin: You’re me a few hours ago!

Actually, we think Littlefinger might be kneeling, so that’s most likely Sweetrobin after all. Observe how he first looks at the person and then looks to the side and up, which would fit him crouching/kneeling in this scene.

It certainly looks like a haircut and clothes a boy could wear, and it does look like Lino Facioli’s hair: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm131761152/nm2996220?ref_=nmmd_md_nxt

Damn, that broom comment just got even creepier…

  • GreatJon of Slumber,
yeah, Edd’s had some good lines on the show so far. I was also a fan of these two:

“I was born in a place like this. Later I fell on hard times”

“Never knew Bannen could smell so good”

Hopefully we’ll get more Edd in the future.

  • 9:35: Ellie Kendrick (Meera) had a scar almost exactly like Hodor’s above her eyebrow. Do you think they might’ve ordered too much of the make-up and gone, “F*** it, let’s put them on everyone else!”.

Edit: also, when Sansa’s in bed, I think all she can hear is “Oh, Petyr, Petyr, sweet Petyr, oh oh oh!” and so on, coming from the room next door ;).

  • Scott Glennon,

I also wanted more dragons and gargoyles on dragonstone, I mean the halls were MADE of giant stone dragons in the books, but the painted table set makes up for it.

I’m okay with no Sunspear though, season 5 will need a biiiiiig cgi budget and honestly I don’t mind not seeing Dorne, there are too many characters that HAVE to cast if it’s included, while the iron islands only need two, and Queenmaker amounts to nothing anyway, I’d sacrifice the beauty of the reveal of Doran’s intentions for other plots to be done better. Doran is crippled, he will never leave Dorne. Quentyn has, Arianne has. We can have the other Martells without Dorne.

  • Eleanor:

But some of you actually think it would be illegal for a 17-year-old actress to make faces and rustle bedsheets onscreen? I don’t understand your brain.

You mean the idea of *gasp* TEENAGERS MASTURBATING (oh dear heavens!) is not a most shocking, outrageous thing ever? I mean, I’m sure that never, never happens in real life, except in freak exceptions – and that most teenagers try their best to stay completely chaste and devoid of sexual thoughts, let alone nasty things they can do to themselves with their hands, until their 18th birthday, when they know that it can’t upset any American person from the states where 18 is the age of consent. (In order not to be arrested for statutory rape of themselves.)

What’s also funny is that nobody ever seems to freak out in a similar way about the storylines about underage characters committing murder and underage actors playing those scenes. I’ve seen people say that Sansa’s storyline gets “mature”, and that Dany’s storyline was mature in season 1, but no one ever says that Arya’s storyline is mature – because, apparently, killing people is classic kiddie stuff.

  • Khal-A-Bunga,

We’re a part of the VFX crew since S2. The VFX team, led by Steve Kullback and Joe Bauer (since S3, before it was Rainer Gombos) works in Belfast on any shot that involves CG elements or other tricks that cannot be achieved in reality. Within the VFX team is a wide range of responsibilities, from supervising the erection of green screens via data wrangling down to visual concept, which is our field of work. So, whenever something CG needs to be designed, we play a substantial part in this: Digital set extensions of the Sept Interior for S2, the Design of Dragonstone exterior for S3, the skyline of Yunkai, Meereen and so forth – and making sure everything stays as consistent as possible across the seasons.

Feel free to browse our website for some design sketches of S2 and S3.

  • Scott Glennon,

I understand where you’re coming from – we actually started out by using lots of dragons in the design, but it looked too much like a theme park ride and not very fit for defense.
However, whenever we have to stray away from the designs as described in the books, we try to make good by offering something equally nice.

  • Annara Snow,

Aryas “killing people on the list” thing wasn’t mature. That’s the whole point of her being with the Hound. Because it’s unreasonable and immature to want to kill someone because they did one bad thing to you, she matures when she realises the Hound was never a bad person and leaves him

  • House Mormont:

Somehow you managed to miss the entire point and misunderstand what I was talking about.

  • Tattered Prince,

The geometry of Dragonstone in S2 and S3 is actually matching, but the darkness of the S2, the lower tide, different perspective along with the unusual triangular battlements may have created a different impression.

The elements in the show’s opening are abstract representations of the actual castles; it’s mainly down to the company doing those shots which features to accentuate for that.

  • Like the change of Bronn training with Jaime and how it seems that Jaime and Tyrion’s relationship will be developed further, ending in Tyrion’s release. Oh, and Shae will not betray Tyrion, but will be sent away.

  • tmannewitz,

Thank you for responding, that’s really cool. I am actually using the exterior shot of Davos arriving at Dragonstone for my wallpaper! It looks properly formidable, as-in the end-it should. The new shot of the dragon shadow over the Red Keep knocked me out the first time I saw it, and that one will be going on my desktop soon. :-)

    House Mormont,

My ulterior motive for wanting to visit Dorne is that the book reader in me is carrying a torch for Arianne, and I just want to see who they cast for that, if anyone.
*sigh* Can’t believe I just admitted that…A man can hope.

    The North Remembers.

  • Leo,

Not from the trailer. Old theory I got bashed for that will come true this season. If not, I will be eating 3-eyed crow.

  • tmannewitz: We design the VFX shots for King’s Landing.
It’s all pretty accurate, in which we take great pride, so thanks for asking.

Fantastic work, thank you so much for the link to your beautiful concept art.

I have two small questions. I can’t really identify the spot where Shae looked down from the balcony of the red keep in the first episode of season 2. The location of the nameday tournament is also not clear to me.
The balcony seems to be on the left side of the red keep but there are towers and battlements with flags i cant see on the season 4 foreshadowing shot.
Also i can’t spot the towers from Joffreys nameday tournament.

  • House Mormont:
    Annara Snow,

Your point was people think sex makes a character mature and not violence, which is true but the example of arya doesn’t really work.

No, it wasn’t. It was about people (well, mostly Americans, to be precise) freaking out over the idea of (fictional) minors engaging in sexual activities, even such as – gasp! – masturbation, but not batting an eyelid over (fictional) minors killing people. It has nothing to do with characters’ “maturity”, or whether sex, masturbation or murder makes you a mature person.

The quote that included the word “mature” was from one such post I remember because I found it funny: someone was talking about Sophie and Maisie and said that Sansa’s storyline includes “mature” stuff, so it’s good that the actress is older than her character. They were not talking about whether her character is “mature”, it was a euphemism for “OMG there are sexual themes in her story, she’s forced to get married and dudes want to have sex with her”. What struck me as funny is that the same person just singled out Sansa/Sophie and apparently did not think that Arya’s story includes “mature stuff” i.e. sex is an adult theme, but murder is not, apparently.

  • KingJon:
    Leo,

    Better get a marinade ready.

  • GreatJon of Slumber: I believe among Robb’s list of demands to the Lannisters in “Fire and Blood” (Or was it “The North Remembers”? was that his father’s “greatsword Ice” be returned to them.

No, that’s in the books only. He never says that in the show. However, Edd (I believe) obliquely refers to Ice when talking about Jon with Sam at the end of Season 2. Sam says that Jon “has a Valyrian steel sword” and Edd dryly notes “so did his father”.

In any event, there’s nothing in the books that I’m aware of that says that Ice was reforged by “cold processes” or that valyrian steel is special because of the “folds”. That’s just totally made up. All we know is that valyrian steel is magic. There’s no reason to assume that the “magic” in valyrian steel is lost simply because its melted down.

Further, the show has never had the “wavy” appearance in its valyrian steels swords so that’s no reason to assume Oathkeeper / Widow’s Wail aren’t Valyrian steel.

  • slammin salmon: Oberyn

Just to this point — one of the photos on the tumblr clearly shows bannermen coming that would seem to describe/look like those as described by Podrick to Tyrion. Which then means the situation may still be the same, just that Tyrion is asking specifically about why Oberyn is there.

  • Dorian: No, that’s in the books only. He never says that in the show. However, Edd (I believe) obliquely refers to Ice when talking about Jon with Sam at the end of Season 2. Sam says that Jon “has a Valyrian steel sword” and Edd dryly notes “so did his father”.

I must have mis-heard it, or rather, assumed it as a result of reading it. He does ask for his sisters’ release, for the south to leave the north, and for his father’s bones, right?

  • What I find interesting is that no one ever mentions that Dolorous Edd is from an actual, named, got-an-achievement-of-arms, proper House. I can’t help but wonder how he wound up at the Wall.

  • GreatJon of Slumber: I must have mis-heard it, or rather, assumed it as a result of reading it. He does ask for his sisters’ release, for the south to leave the north, and for his father’s bones, right?

Yup he does. Personally I found the omission of Ice after Season 1 – never mind its never being explicitly named so far – both grating and somewhat inexplicable. Ilyn Payne wasn’t even wearing it when we saw him in Season 2.

  • Or maybe Americans aren’t perverts.

Annara Snow: No, it wasn’t. Interesting. It’s a case of me projecting knowledge from the book, then.

  • KG,

Word of God from some interview is that Yoren told Edd that the Watch was a good place to pick up chicks, and Edd believed him.

I guess he probably became “Dolorous” after that.

  • KG:
    Or maybe Americans aren’t perverts.

Damn us decadent Europeans! No wonder empires fell and potatoes went bad. We deserve it because we’re perverts who believe that people having sexual identities before their 18th birthday is normal – perhaps even healthy!

I’d better go watch some 1950s American TV shows to scrub my brain clean. Kissing only, no solo adventures, that’s the way to go. Can’t be too careful with modern TV shows – after all, Glee is set in Ohio where the age of consent is 16! Gosh, those Ohioans are even more perverted than some of Europe.

  • I guess that would make me pretty sad too, if I was him.

  • So most people think Dany’s story will conclude with ADWD I this year, but the shot of her walking down into a dark basement makes me think ADWD II, where she sees her dragons chained. Then, backtrack to ASOS, the next Dany scene is with Jorah “Dragons can’t be tamed, Khaleesi” and maybe he kisses her and the final scene is her banishing him.

Can skip the rest of II (I’m 50/50 on Quaithe), III is with Xaro so cut all of that, then S5 can just be:

-E1 Dany’s court scene, with new characters (Green Grace aka Harpy, Shavepate, etc.)
-Green Grace suggests to marry Hizdahr, he promises Dany he’ll stop the killings

  • ^bleh posted early and my edit button is gone so cant spoiler tag,
    plz halp!

anyway, really only the Hizdahr marriage/wedding + fighting pits in the 1st half of the season, with news of Fall of Astapor/refugees coming in, then 2nd half of S5 can be about the Battle of Meereen. none of the other material in Dany’s chapters is really that essential.

  • Well we now know why Ed Skrein might have left “Game Of Thrones”. Mind you this is our speculation. He has been cast as the new Transporter…and is replacing Jason Statham in the role for what would either be “Transporter 4″ or a re-boot of the franchise.

Below is a link to an article discussing just that:
    http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=40108

Let’s hope Michael Huisman is up to the task. “I am Daario Naharis, I always have a choice…”

  • Chris77:
Maybe that shot with the Dragon over KL is part of a new intro?
Heck, I love the award winning intro they have, but maybe they switched to Drogon flying all over the locations to signify the growth and importance of the dragons.
Otherwise it is probably a dream or vision. Or maybe Drogon pays his respects at the PW;)

Oh and what an amazng preview. No complaints whatsoever from me…

That’s what I thought originally too, but seeing their size and depending on how far into the Mereen plot line they got, it could really be Drogon flying over KL

  • KG:

Well, in the books Satin is an Oldtown whore older than Jon, so if they don’t do a reverese Missandei he sure isn’t Satin. Looks to me he’s a wildling left orphan after the raid and Jon will take him under his wings.

  • KG:
Because you got defensive. If it didn’t matter to you, you would not have reacted like you did.Sissy.

Go ahead. Tell me how I would have reacted.

  • Michel,

More along the lines of Bronn will either stick around with Jaime or just get killed at some point in KL before Tyrion’s trial. The more I think about what I saw in this foreshadowing; here is how I pull the string.
-Cersei is responsible for Shae’s death prior to the trial.
-Jaime is the one who lets slip about Shae when he and Cersei are together.
-Bronn is the one to take Tyrion to Varys at the end.

  • KG:
    Or maybe Americans aren’t perverts.

    But they are murder-lovers?

It seems like this is what you’re saying… the idea of teenagers masturbating = totally perverted, the idea of teenagers/preteens killing people = totally normal.

  • Tenesmus:

All of this is based on absolutely nothing. I’ve never understood why so many people think everything is going to changed while there is basically no indication at all any of this could even be slightly true. Aside from the obvious changes due to Jaime’s presence at the trial, all evidence (Jaime and Tyrion together in the tunnel in the Foreshadowing video, Tyrion giving Shae golden chains, Varys talking to Shae) points to the fact that things will (more or less, as always with GoT) stay the same as in the books.

  • tmannewitz,

Ah, sorry for that. I think I might have been confusing the shot featured during the burning of the Seven with concept art for that scene along with the dragon statue visible when Davos meets Salladhor.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Dutch maester,

except that some of the book scenes are much more nuanced so they need to condense it a bit. My thoughts are not based on “nothing” they are based on extrapolatinig what I have seen so far. For example, in the book, Tyrion tells Jaime that he did kill Joff, but now that I have seen glimpses of Lannisters interating, I don’t think it will play out that way. I think Cersei will figure Shae out and then have her killed, the necklace acn even be what givese her away, like why would a hand maid have a thick ass gold chain? Isn’t some Lannister gold trinket what made think Cersei think Ros was Tyrion’s whore? Same thing now with Shae.

I understand, but you can’t extrapolate something you haven’t seen. We haven’t seen Shae at all in any of the footage released so far (aside from a promo pic in which Tyrion and Shae seem to be arguing). Therefore, it is based on nothing.

  • I love the show and everythings great but a couple pet-peeves …
There have been 5 kings and 3 queens… why do kingslanding-ers the only ppl with crowns???
i want danys 3 headed dragon crown, stannis’ plain crown, the driftwood crown from the iron islands c’mon
and if “man wants to be the king o’ the rabbits , he best wear a pair o’ floppy ears” where is danys tokar
oh and i’ve been mispronouncing oberyn for the last 5 yrs

  • tmannewitz: We design the VFX shots for King’s Landing.
It’s all pretty accurate, in which we take great pride, so thanks for asking.

Well thanks VERY MUCH for the answer, I couldn’t have expected a better suited person to reply. Oh and sorry for implying it might have been all “a bit bullshit”. ;)

  • Question: if Drogon is going to be killing some farmers towards the end of this season, how can he also do a fly-over above King’s Landing around the same time? It could be a different dragon, but I doubt it. Or perhaps they’ll just have him fly over anyways. Whether the fly-over occurs or not, it’s strange that they would put that part in the trailer. Seems like the kind of moment you’d want to surprise people with.

Edit: by “some farmers” I mean the farmer’s daughter.

  • Enfield,

There is no way a dragon will fly by King’s Landing this season unless it’s in a dream sequence or some sort of flashback/forward. It makes no sense at all, and I just don’t see D&D doing something like that.

  • Based on this preview, I think I know what season 5 will look like.

”If”’ they want to do GOT in 7 seasons, they need to cut a lot and they need to move forward pretty fast.

Brienne’s encounter with Rorge and Biter is pretty much the end of her AFFC adventures. Season 4 ending with Brienne taken by the BWB to Lady Stoneheart? Chances are pretty high. Season 5 would have less of Brienne and that’s okay. It’s like Yara in season 3, less of her made some space for other storylines. By the end of season 5, Brienne could take Jaime to LS.

Daenerys has a lot of ADWD materials in season 4 it seems. Hizdar is introduced, her dragons are chained, Drogon eats a little girl, Emilia said that Yunkai and Astapor are already in revolt. Season 5 could easily cut a lot and finish (almost) her ADWD material. Agrees to marry Hizdar, Quentyn (maybe cut) arrives and burns, Wedding to Hizdar, Drogon in pit and flies away with Dany on her back.

Arya…who knows? She is on her way to Braavos, arrives in season 5 (maybe 4). Season 5 would probably have her be Cat of the Canals and meet Sam, kill Daeron, and be blind. Could even go farther than AFFC.

Tyrion, that’s a puzzle. We know he escapes in season 4 but does he meet Illyrio, or goes on a boat? Season 5 could cut a lot, encounter with Aegon and Jon, gets captured by Jorah, gets captured as a Slave (f*ck Penny), goes straight to the pit and sees Dany for the first time, also escapes death, then gets a new master maybe even talks with Brown Ben Plumm.

Jon: could easily get killed in final of season 5. A lot of cutting could happen. By the end of season 5 Stannis leaves the Wall and is on his way to Winterfell. The whole storyline with Mance/Rattleshirt could easily never exist on the show. Easily.

Theon… wedding with the fake Arya probably in season 5. Not a lot left.

Battle of Winterfell and Mereen go to season 6’s first half.

Keep in mind those are just guesses, some storyline may be farther than others and some may be slowed down. I just think it could be done, I agree it would be little cramped though. We’ll see.

  • I hate to be picky, but when Gwendoline said she’d bite a man’s ear this season, I hope she isn’t talking about the confrontation with biter/rorge. Seriously, they’re going to condense all her AFFC material? Her meeting with Randyll Tarly and the backstory of the game in Renly’s camp? Most of all the Quiet Isle and the Hound… :/
If they don’t end the season with ”but she remembers” … and introduce Stoneheart a lot earlier to judge Brienne, they’ll ruin the jaw dropping epilogue of ASOS.
On another note, has Gendry, Rickon and the Tullys filmed this season?
Iwan Rheon looks to dressed in fine clothes in one of his shots, looks alot like Roose and Ramsay will talk this season.. They can’t leave out Roose’s most badass line yet.. ”don’t make me rue the day I raped your mother”.

I’m expecting it to be Tywin not Cersei, since he *said* he’d hang the next of Tyrion’s “whores” he finds. Aside from that, it’s anyone’s guess what Shae will be doing, but I’d assume with the changes of Shae’s and Tyrion’s personalities it is at least likelier that it won’t be Tyrion who kills her.

I feel it’s safe to assume that they’ll end with LS hanging some Freys. I don’t know if we really can guess from the trailer that Brienne’s AFFC storyline will end already. They might simply set up a confrontation between her and Rorge – if he’s the bitten party – so that her killing him later has some personal heft to it. See it this way: they left Rorge’s nose intact, so he may definitely spare an ear.

On another note, has Gendry, Rickon and the Tullys filmed this season?

Presumably, no idea, and no idea and likely not for Blackfish and Edmure, respectively. The only one who got halfway confirmed of these was Edmure, whose actor said he wasn’t called. Gendry is definitely most likely since his actor is a regular – the others aren’t.

  • OT: Bunch of sadists over on Westeros, they not only want Ramsey to kill the girl shown in the video being hunted (which happens in the books), they also cannot wait for him to kill Charlotte Hope’s character in some bloody way. I guess they either don’t want another D&D addition taking up screen time or don’t like the idea of him having a female companion.

Oy, we’re still having this debate. Tywin said this in the book as well. This isn’t going to be changed. It’s about as likely as the Purple Wedding happening in Season 3 Episode 10.

  • GreatJon of Slumber,

lol. No worries, no debate! It’s only an educated guess, which I think is all we can make at this time. Let’s wait and see!

    tysnow,

yeah, I saw that. I mean, I doubt Myranda will survive being Ramsay’s buddy for long, given how psycho he is, but it’s not like I want to see it in gory detail. Reading about his exploits was bad enough.

If by “a bunch” you mean one guy who happens to be Ramsey uber-fan, maybe two. Everyone else was arguing against too much on-screen gore/torture porn and in favor of leaving most of Ramsey’s atrocities to the audience’s imagination.

As for why people are talking about Ramsey killing Myranda, could it be because it’s something you expect from Ramsey?

  • Annara Snow,

This discussion about “torture porn” is bizarre to me. It’s clearly not meant to be enjoyable, unlike stuff like “The Hostel” or “Saw”. Most of it was pretty tame as well. It’s not like GRRM leaves that much to the imagination, with the various descriptions of the horrors he gives (except with Jeyne, there he only hints)

    http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/File:DornishBannermen.jpg

The banners of Martell (unseen in this shot) and Manwoody seem to be as described in the books. At the far back on the red banners are probably the scorpions of Qorgyle. I haven’t found anything for the “nine pennies” ;), except maybe a replacement for the lemons of Dalt. Or it might be a redesign of Blackmont (given their banner is a vulture with a baby in its talons) which would fit with the casting of a Blackmont lord. The silver and grey stripe on dark ?blue? is a complete mystery though.

I’m hoping they use the Kingsroad theme which played when the Starks departed Winterfell in episode 2 and arrived in King’s Landing in episode 3.

Speaking of Manwoody, this YouTube-based podcast which is huge on anything sci-fi and fantasy, but particularly ASOIAF. It features an international group of hosts as well. Perfect if you need some more waiting for Winds material.

  • Does anyone now what the opening piece of music is on this, i am assuming it is a new piece for Season 4 but is that assumption correct?

  • Eleanor: Go ahead. Tell me how I would have reacted.

Go ahead, tell us more about Americans’ opinions on things…speaking from your vast experience as a European, naturally.

  • Scott Wood,

Also, Jaime and Tyrion get on well. If Jaime lets on to Tyrion that he needs the help of a damned good fighter that he could trust, Tyrion would readily offer his own bodyguard to his brother’s service, especially if his own future looks rather bleak at the time. Bronn kept Tyrion’s secrets close to vest. Why not Jaime’s too?

  • Food for thought. anyone think sir Dontos isn’t going to be pelted to death by the arrows and instead be the one Little Finger blames for Lysas death?

  • I wonder if we’ll get to hear the end of Tyrion’s ‘honeycomb and jackass in a brothel’ confession during his trial this year

  • Apologies if old news, or I’m posting this in totally the wrong place, and I hope none of this is a spoiler (don’t think so, but you never know) but just looked at IMDB out of where-do-I-know-you-from curiosity and there are some names in the cast list for most of the episodes in series 4 (esp the 1st one). Mainly minor characters I think (not a book reader so not au fait with everyone’s names, but do read spoilers) and they may answer some of the points raised above about what’s going to happen and whether or not it’s in the same order as the books.
