HBO commissions 3D street art of The Wall in London
By Winter Is Coming on in Marketing, Merchandise.

To promote today’s release of Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season in the UK, HBO has commissioned this street art of The Wall in London’s Bishops Square. Painted by street artists 3D Joe and Max, this 10m x 7.5m artwork is the first of its kind to be 3D from more than one angle.

Artist Joe Hill, founder of 3D Joe and Max, comments: “We were delighted to be approached by HBO to commission this artwork – we knew we had to do something really special to match the sheer scale of this phenomenal TV show that has swept the globe. That’s why The Wall in 3D works from more than one angle – making it a first in the 3D art world.”

Fans and passersby are encouraged to interact with the artwork; with the giant canvas appearing to look 3D it makes for fantastic picture opportunities. But hurry, as the art will be there for one day only.

If it’s 3D from more than one angle how come we only get a full shot from one angle?

Anyone else got their copy yet? It said the delivery date would be Friday, but until the Winter Olympics are over, I can’t watch any of it on the TV anyway.

Incredible. I love the new ideas HBO comes up with every year to promote the show. Granted nothing will top the first year’s promotion level with the food trucks and everything, but that’s to be expected.

    DonalNoyesarm,

Angle 1: lying on the picture and making it look like you’re clinging to the side of the Wall.

Angle 2: standing at the top of the picture and making it look like you’re standing on the top of the Wall.

    Or so I’d guess :)

    I love it!

Just looking at this gave me vertigo.

HBO has really embraced unusual and innovative marketing for GOT.

    This kicks ass.

    DonalNoyesarm,

I like the angle of the shot we’re given, but I want to see this looking down the wall where those workers are checkin it out! (not even gonna bother with scale problems…. cause this kicks ass!)

EDIT: I missed the one with the woman scaling… that’s pretty rad.

DOUBLE EDIT: ONE DAY ONLY WTF???

Why are they climbing over the highest bit? if you look to the left there’s a long part of wall that looks like 25 feet tall or something , Tormund making the job more difficult than it needs to be -.-

I can’t imagine one person is going to go buy the boxset because of this, I swear HBO doesn’t know what to do with this show. There’s plenty of money to be made from Game of Thrones and they’re just squandering opportunity after opportunity.

    BobbyAtomic,

HBO are extremely good at teasing, marketing and such, but with this show, they are pretty clumsy.
Seems almost like its made by someone not familiar with the show and story.
AMC is much better at this.
I am at least happy for them not commercialisingthe show, too much.
They keep it classy, like Mad Men. I like that.

Agreed… that is an absolutely amazing piece of street art – I don’t think there are many that could pull it off so well… HBO found a truly talented artist to create this!

It might’ve worked, if they’d painted it on a slope going upwards :) They should’ve made this an option at the “Ascent-the-Wall” experience.

No way! Why should he? That’s a legitimate question! And even if it wasn’t, I’d still like an answer to it. LOL

Mr. Whitehead, can you provide a 3rd angle for this 3D canvas?! :P

That being said, impressive artwork. Kudos to the artists.

Oh damn just see the article and I’ve missed it, I suppose it won’t be there tomorrow.
It must have been cool, love the marketing of HBO for this. And they haven’t start with Season 4 posters (though it must be Sky that are in charge of it in UK).

But they don’t do the GoT exhibition in London and it’s a scandal ! I mean, all actors are Brits, they could have come to the capital. Would have love to do the Ascension of the Wall Oculus thing.
