Game of Thrones explores The Intensity of Iceland
By Ours is the Fury on in Filming, Production.

In the newest featurette from HBO, we go behind the scenes with the cast and crew of Game of Thrones as they film season four in Iceland. The shooting this season was quite the departure from previous years when the landscape was blanketed with snow during filming. With summertime shooting, Iceland can stand in for a variety of locations throughout Westeros, not just beyond the Wall.

Ours is the Fury: I have to say, the actors look much, much happier in the Iceland filming video this time around compared to season 3′s behind the scenes video.

I take it they shot Mole’s Town there. I remember Brennock O’ Connor’s agency said he was filming there in the casting notice that wicnet picked up on in the Summer. From the trailers, he looked to be in Mole’s Town, didn’t he.

He is likely to play a role in the battle for castle black too.
    Could he be Satin?
    Or Mully?

    Lord Davos,

His CV http://www.spotlight.com/4013-0169-9841 credits him as “Boy In Hamlet” still, so they might not even name him. I think they brought him in so Jon could be older-brotherly again and so that Shireen could have a playmate/friend. Toward the end of the GoT S4 shoot he, Art Parkinson (Rickon) and Kerry Ingram (Shireen) all featured on one another’s twitters.

BTW, Charlotte Hope’s (Myranda) CV no longer credits “various” directors. Now it credits Alex Graves and Alik Sakharov specifically. http://www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/1/F134702.html GrrM confirmed in his S3 commentary on the dvd that his s3 ep., number two, will feature Myranda, so that confirms that one of the Alex Graves eps. she’ll be in is 402.

    Greenjones,

I am very looking forward to him, he seems like a great opponent to Kit.
    He will be Jon’s Missandei.
Seems like we will see lot of Reek.
It is worrying, cause it needs to improve as an storyline.
    No more endless hunts.

I love Iceland, it’s so absolutely beautiful and my two weeks there last year weren’t nearly enough!
Glad they decided to film there in summer this time. I think you can see that in S2 & S3 the acting suffered due to the difficult filming conditions in the Icelandic winter.

    Lord Of The Waters,

    That’s the Gulfoss: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gullfoss
I’m not sure if they’ll use it in the show, as it’s one of the most famous tourist attractions in Iceland… so maybe it’s too iconic for GoT

Well just read an article saying that Stevie Nicks would like to get involved with GoT! Obviously, this is just her talking as a fan…apparently according to her she discovered the show a few years ago while she was bedridden with pneumonia and now is a huge fan! She said she’s written poetry based on the show and each character!

    What do you guys think?

    Lord Davos,

At most we’ll get 6 episodes of Myranda, if she’s in all four of Alex Graves’s eps. and both of Alik Sakharov’s. That’s extremely unlikely though. The minimum would mean only 2 appearances but that wouldn’t make sense to have her only appear so far apart in ep. 2, and then ep. 6 or 7. My guess is 3 or 4 appearances.

Her being in Sakharov-directed eps means she lasts all the way to the mid-season which means she may run afoul of Yara rather than Ramsay. But of course, everything to do with the new Ramsay/Theon/Yara storyline is conjecture at this point. The Sullied are as much in the dark about it as the Unsullied.

Iceland is gorgeous. It’s strange that the North will look greener than it did in season one, though, with it being Autumn and Winter quickly approaching. I’m starting to wonder when they will make a concerted effort to show the changing weather across all of Westeros . It is snowing in King’s Landing at the end of book 5, a book that they are starting to delve into this season.

We don’t see the Vale in the promo footage, we see the Eyrie. The castle is placed way higher than Moles Town, which means it’s much colder there, hence the snow.

    loki,

I agree with many who have come before; the battle of the fist got…. fisted. I was so looking forward to that scene as easily one of the raddest battles I’ve ever read…. Tho in the end I understand the production limitations and think it was tastefully done as a way to open the season. I was like “ooooh shit! And all the unsullied i was watching with didn’t understand…
My feeling about the snow, or lack thereof, is that I think either they will cg it in post……. Or they are going to reserve the heavy snowfall, in the context of this visual storytelling medium, for the advance of the others. I have mixed feelings about that, but I think it may come to that

    Greenjones,

I knew it! So it’s safe to say there’ll be no Ramsay/Reek in episode 1 and they’re going on a hunt in episode 2 >:) I like how GRRM created a whole character from nothing and then sticks to her.

The only other main character I can see missing out on the premier is Bran, but I think that anyone who misses the premier will be in episode 2 in between the wedding scenes.

This leaves Yara’s attack to episode 3 or 4, as expected.

    Hand of the Kingslayer,

Actually GrrM in the commentary said that he didn’t write the Myranda and Violet scene. He actually didn’t write as much as half of the episode and some of his scenes were in Second Sons, like Dany’s meeting with the Second Sons captains and Sam and Gilly’s scene.

But yes, his ep. 2 will include her. I think it is correct on your part to presume that ep. 2 will introduce the Greyjoy and Bolton storylines, which we already kind of knew about because Fat Walda appears in that very episode. This also makes it plausible that we will see Balon die in this same episode, prior to Joff.

Given that this episode contains the PW and Ramsay hunting, I think it would be fair to suggest that it might be titled “Monsters and Maidens”, which IIRC is the Westerosi hide-and-seek which Ramsay perverts through his hunts. Personally I’d still prefer the title was more PW oriented but “Monsters and Maidens” would apply to the PW and the hunting.

Agree about the time of Balon’s death being at the end of ep 1. I think he has to die first, so that it stays mysterious whether Mel’s blood magic had any influence on the deaths or not. They definitely have to die in the order of the leeches. Does anyone else hope they’ll get Jaquen 2.0 back for a Balon death scene?

I doubt anyone would ever admit to being inspired by Breaking Dawn. (Which doesn’t excuse the love triangle, of course, but I suspect when people say “I was inspired by Lost.” the words “But not by that shoddy love triangle!” are actually implied, too.)

    Hand of the Kingslayer,

I think when they have Balon’s Final Swandive will depend on when they decide to jump into the Euron/Victarion storyline and the struggle for the Seastone Chair. And how explicit they show intends to be about the very ominous coincidence of Euron’s return from virtual exile. I’m going with “Not Ep. 1″ for right now. Not sure exactly how Yara going a-vikin’ toward the Dreadfort instead of falling back from Torrhen’s Square is going to impact that story line, but it’ll be an interesting wrinkle no matter what.
