  • Hey I wonder what could be worse than listening to Eric ramble incoherently about a book I know and love… oh.

  • Glad you guys are reading these. There’s lots of info in here that will enhance your future experience with the show and books.

I wholeheartedly concur. Now if they would just talk about what happened in the Chapter during the podcast – that would be sweet

Ditto. Perhaps the next installment won’t include ” Sam -the- man -Tarly as guest.
There’s hope yet… stay tuned. The D&E books are fun and fact filled to be taken lightly, these guys appreciate that….. just not at the moment ( :

  • I don’t have The Hedge Knight book.. I hadn’t planned on reading it quite yet. I’m halfway through Dance and don’t want this spoiled.

Soooo I guess I won’t be listening to you guys for a while.

  • I agree. Sam is annoying. I don’t even get it; he sounds like Mickey Mouse anyway. Drop the Sam bullshit.

Anyway, I’m excited they’re doing the Dunk and Egg books. I’ve been interested in these books for a while and I’m interested in what kinds of insights we’ll hear from the group. Of course I’m interested in the book details as well.

  • “My brothas in the Night’s Watch can’t deny~”

Haha, that was a great bit in the end. I don’t understand the Sam hate, but I do think you guys could mix up his routine a bit in the future.

The story starts slow, so this was a good way of dipping our feet into it. It’s a natural reaction to acclimate oneself to Dunk’s Westeros. When there’s more plot to discuss, I’m sure the guys will throw down. A nice intro to a pleasant surprise. I’m glad you’re filling the S4 wait with this.

  • Arthur,

I’m curious whether ROME could have gained as much traction as the article’s optimism seems to imply. The success of Spartacus lends further credence to the profitability of a swords and sandals period piece, but could a reboot of ROME ever go as viral as GoT has? GoT has dragons on its side, among other things, but I feel it’s tapping into a wider market than ROME would have a chance to.

This isn’t to dissuade any hope for another great series to roar back to life. I’m just not sure how much popularity a more grounded historical drama could enjoy, as opposed to a wonderfully fabricated one with the benefit of supernatural license.

  • King of the Ashes: Samwell Tarley?? why?

I think he meant the annoying “Sam voice” that one of the hosts does. In “quote marks” because it doesn’t really sound like Sam…

I also hate it :) It’s the one thing about the podcast I don’t like. It almost stopped me listening all the way through the first episode I randomly heard… But I got over it, and have listened to every ep since they started Clash of Kings.

So yeah, I wouldn’t miss it if I never heard the “Sam voice” again!

But except for that one thing, I still love your work. Even Eric’s weird conclusion-jumping, which is his right as an unsullied.

  • WompWomp,

    Well said!

    I agree with you 100%.

ROME was the first “Sword and Sandel” genre TV series I couldn’t wait to watch every week. So it’ll always have a special place in my heart. If HBO did a ROME reboot that would be simply amazing and I’m sure it would be profitable.

    One can dream can’t they?

  • Arthur,

One sure can, and knowing the actors are willing and the sets are whole certainly doesn’t hurt that hope! I was really heartened by the latter detail, as I thought they had demolished those assets by now.

  • I almost turned it off because if the Sam thing.

Also, you guys need to reevaluate your assumption that Ser Arlan knights Dunk before he dies. These stories seem simple compared to the novels, but they can be very subtle at times.

Hey I wonder what could be worse than listening to Eric ramble incoherently about a book I know and love…oh.

When will these trolls stop posting on every GOO thread? Eric wasn’t “rambling” and he wasn’t “incoherent”, and the show was very good. And if you don’t even know the Dunk & Egg stories, what the heck are you doing here? What useful or interesting thing do you have to say? Or do you just come to insult and bully a host?

  • Great episode! I’m thrilled that GOO is doing Dunk & Egg!! Got my Legends ebook from Amazon. Lots of good stories :)

  • Arthur,

HBO should do a series in anthology format, about roman emperors; each season focusing on one emperor at a time; the big ones: Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, The Year of the Four Emperors, Domitian, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius and ending with Commodus.

  • The Sam-voice was nice as a bit of lighthearted fun the last times, but I have to agree, when it’s used for half the episode it gets very annoying.

I love that GOO is doing Dunk&Egg. There wasn’t really much to discuss in this episode, but I’m looking forward to your opinions on the meatier parts of the story.

And, as someone already posted, Ser Arlan never knighted Dunk.

  • Dolorous Ned,

And again! Jeez, not everyone has read all of these books. At the current moment we have no reason to doubt Dunk’s word on the matter. That’s a huge spoiler.

  • This was fun. I actually like Sam. His PR trip made me lol.

I’m glad you guys are doing this, it finally motivated me to actually go track down and purchase the anthology so I could read it.

Of course, I did this so that I could listen to the podcast without getting spoilers.

Alas, I then went to the comment section and BAM.

  • I DID turn it off because of the Sam thing.

    Sam = Scrappy Doo

I.E. the creators love him. The fans hate him.

To be clear: Sam must go. Unless you are looking to troll your audience by seeing how much they can take of his obnoxious voice to listen to the rest of the podcast, you will do your audience a favor and slit the character’s falsetto throat. Or some other suitably gruesome death.

  • Blind Beth,

Well, I’m sorry, and I don’t want to be the one saying “This isn’t really a spoiler, but…”, but as far a I remember this is something that’s never explicitly stated in the story, just a conclusion from reading between the lines. So it didn’t feel like a spoiler to me.

  • Blind Beth,

I sincerely apologize for that. I guess it is kind of a light spoiler, but I still think there are enough hints to question it in the first half of the novella. I was just annoyed that the podcasters said there wasn’t really anything to talk about so far. I would delete the comment if I could.

  • I’d never listened to this podcast before but I too turned off because of the ‘Sam’ voice. Not funny, not clever, just stupid.

    And I second this!!

  • Yay! I am so glad you guys are doing this now. I was waiting for pod people to read these books and give reviews forever.

  • Annara Snow,

Making negative comments=/= trolling. Trolling is doing stuff like that purely to get a reaction or to upset a person or group. Just like they seem to always post on the episodes, you seem to always assume things about their motivations or personalities. Namely that they’re neckbeards who are just saying it because they like to be mean. And responding is obviously not stopping them so why bother? Just ignore them >.>
