Here’s the song that will be featured.

D and D and HBO seem to have a very white-guy-in-their-thirties taste in music.

I’m excited, but the vines have me worried as we’ve already seen both of those clips. Multiple times. The Vengeance trailer did nothing for me because it was mostly footage from the first trailer and the Foreshadowing feature. Here’s hoping this is a proper new trailer and we’re getting mostly new footage.

    Josh,

Well we’ll doubtless get a few new clips, enough to wet our beaks anyhow. And some nice lines of dialogue that we haven’t heard yet. But yeah, they do seem to have a few key moments that they recycle trailer to trailer. I’m fine with that though because we get to see how these moments which looks awesome, even if seen multiple times, fit in with different editing/music etc.

I hope they’ll show more new material, maybe a shot of the dragons, not only Drogon. These previews are great but we’ve already seen them already in the last trailer(s).

    I am not complaining though.

“I know what happens next…I saw you in my dreams. We’re in Carcosa now…he sees ya.”

As much as I want to have another taste of season 4 I cannot wait for the True Detective finale. So many theories on who or what the Yellow King and Carcosa (literary allusions aside) could possibly be and whether my predictions will come to fruition. This line of Cohle’s haunts me: “I contemplate the moment in the Garden. To accept one’s own crucifixion.”

Well, I can’t remember the last GOT trailer that had a guy singer. Now that I think of it, trailer 2 of season 4 was a guy… But other than that I can only remember girl singers as far as seasons 2 and 3 go.

    Greenjones,

If that’s the song, hope they use the part starting about 2:13. Love to see what footage is used for that bit of insanity. Dragons, battles, RV vs Mtn, Mance?! and my fantasy, though I’m sure unlikely, an extreme CU on the eyes of LS, opening for the first time.

    Bgap,

They will not show that in the trailer. Nor in the series either, if you’d ask me. If they had in mind to include that scene (which isn’t even in the books anyway) it would have been in the season 3 finale, which desperately needed anything but Mhysa as a season ender (I’m sorry, but they already used the ‘giant-army-with-dragons-flying-in-the-sky-and-roaring-as-the-camera-pans-away-from-them-and-into-the-credits’ shot back in Astapor and it really didn’t do anything for me to see it again from a different angle).

Either way, I think it’s a much better way to reveal that character as she was revealed in the books. Sudden, surprising, awesome and merciless.

To this day I’m sure they shot resurrection and didn’t use it – there are 2 tracks on soundtrack that they didn’t use in episodes and that never happened before

    sati,

Well the track “For the Realm” was just Ramin playing guitar, I think that was made specially for the soundtrack CD rather than for the show. As for the “Dark Wings, Dark Words” song, I really liked it. I hope they find use for it next season. But I doubt they would shoot that moment. There was a David Nutter interview that came out before the “Mhysa” episode that gave the impression that the ending they showed was very much the intended season ending.

If they showed the resurrection onscreen it would ruin the shock of seeing her back out of the blue and in a horrible form. There’s a reason George ended with a epilogue from a Frey’s perspective rather than Beric’s.

I guess I’m glad they’re recycling several clips, since this is the third trailer, and we’re still almost one month off from the premiere. I think they should save the more epic moments such as the war and dragon stuff for the last trailer, if even then.

I agree. I recall an interview with Michelle Fairley from late fall of ’12 when she dropped hints about one last scene she did for season 3. She said something along the lines of having to get an extreme hair cut and that it was shot with only a small crew, but wouldn’t say anything more. I’m convinced it was the reveal of LS and they decided to push it back to this season for greater impact.

Wish I could find it. Tried searching and only came across this one, where she mentions the hair cut after the last day shooting the RW, and makes an excuse of why she got the cut. (she just needed a change of look, etc) Half way through the article. Not proof, I know, but perhaps it’s not a coincidence considering the hair ‘style’ of LS.

I didn’t claim that she was everybody‘s favourite character, just that she was the most popular. Just take a look at the number of views the small teasers got:

    Tyrion dungeon tease: 450K
    Stark direwolf tease: 710K
Dany dragon tease: 1.8M (that’s 700K more views than the other two combined)

See the reason why they make sure to feature her character a lot in the promos?

I want more Bran, I’m getting tired of that half a second shot of him with the wierwood that they have shown in all the trailers so far. I get why they recycle the shots of Sansa and Joffrey since it would get really spoilery if they showed more but why not show more of the other characters!?

  63. Satin

    Balerion,

I think they want to convey more of mood, really. Thus all the fighting fighting fighting – dramatic line delivery à la “I will do what queens do, I will rule” – fight fight fight – mysterious look from Mel/Cersei – fight fight fight – dragon. It’s also meant to draw in new viewers, and showing conversation scenes – which we know make up a lot of the series – is less likely to be emotionally affecting, especially if you don’t know the characters. Spectacle is where it’s at.

You mean that wasn’t Coldhands?! Hahahah I hope to see him on his Elk, with a murder of crows, leading Bran to the cave. They better not mess with that Elk and put him on a horse! I’ll cry sacrilege and refuse to watch his scenes. That should hurt HBO ratings real bad.

Honestly though, I’d wish they’d not cut him out. Bran’s journey is much richer with him providing the mystery element in it. Whatever they decide though, I’m sure it will make sense from a TV show script point of view.

No, I think she will be. I’m just saying this fanbase misremembers facts in order to strengthen their belief that certain events will happen. Said Michelle Fairly interview does not exist.

    Song,

I don’t hate Dany, and I totally get why she is all over the marketing. But I sometimes idly wish we’d live in this alternative universe, where the show gets promotion dealing with the complex characters and the interesting political storylines, and not the white-haired chick with the dragons or the broody dude in the black furs. For me, there is a huge disconnect between what the show is, and what the marketing claims it is. That is totally normal, of course, but obviously people see it, and some get impatient with it.

    Lord Davos,

Looking at the post Fury made about the exhibition I’m pretty sure it will. Oberyn’s costume is also at the exhibition and we have seen it in promo footage for the next season. Technically we have seen Oathkeeper as well of curse, but not very clearly.

The marketing is mainly aimed the casual viewers and to draw in completely new ones. This isn’t achieved without putting some hot chicks and badass action in the trailer.

Those who are invested in the many political intrigues, etc, don’t need trailers to come back every season, so no marketing specifically targeted at them!

    hodor,

The second trailer was better than the first. It was more than just random clips and actually helped Unsullied understand what to expect unlike the first trailer (which was more for Sullied viewers to pick at, if I had to guess).

Overall, I think we’ll be seeing a lot more recycled material and a lot more new material. I think we’ll get a better glimpse at the dragons, maybe some new shots from the battle and surely some new close ups and voice overs. I hope we’ll get some more shots of Theon/Ramsay and Yara. Some new Bran material would be nice, too (for fuck’s sake, COLDHANDS OR NO COLDHANDS?!).

I get what you’re saying here. As demonstrated with many TV series, the marketing dept ‘s decision aim for a certain perspective which doesn’t necessarily ( always ) mirror what the viewer hopes to see. Sometimes it’s the sensationalized scenes or flashes of favourite characters ( high in the polls ). Whom these scenes resonate with is all over the survey map. That’s not a bad thing, the execs end up reaching a broad spectrum of viewers. For those heavily invested , emotionally, in the series, the previews either disappoint or excite, one extreme or the other . It’s hard to satisfy readers with foreknowledge of the TV series. There’s hardly a broad spectrum that effectively satisfy them__us, completely. Newbies and Unsullied are really intrigued regarding the hype and eager to learn with the
upcoming episode. For me, the trailers often underwhelm, but I occasionally watch just to obsess over some detail ( like armor or environment setting ). I can’t blame the execs for my attitude. I respect what they must do to promote the series, as I accept my true reason for my nonchalance about the way they go about it. Many of the hyped scenes are low on my list , I’m too greedy for the entire episode. Gotta stay tuned for the details, I guess. *>*

I definitely believe if they are using a ‘Losers’ song, it will be “Azan”

When I first heard this song, I actually thought “this will be a cool track to use as a Game of Thrones preview.”

It’s a good thing I have no clue what comes next because I’ve strung along for the entire ride to crazy town, with this show. I can’t believe the finale is suddenly here, seems like I’ve been mesmerized since the season began. I need a couple more episodes before an explosive event. I must say also that McConaughey and Harrelson are serving up stellar performances with truly inspired script. Still reeling from the backflip of implicating Cohle then re-directing the storyline. The entire project has been riveting, in both it’s presentation and the stark reality of rural life in the US.

    Hand of the Kingslayer,

Just wanted to add that the song they used for trailer #2, Vengeance ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2ZNaLQD60Y ), is a cover performed by the Everlove of “Cities in dust”, a 1986 song by Siouxsie and the Banshees.(One of the greatest bands ever !)
At 00:33, you can indeed hear a guy singing, but after several hearings, I’m wondering if they’re not using Siouxsie’s original vocals at 1:01.

Here is the original song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Inld-zDad0c
It definitely sounds very 80′s, with way too much synth, and would have been impossible to use for a GoT trailer in its original state.
(But I can think of several epic songs by the Banshees that would have been great for this job, like for instance “Bring me the head of the preacher man” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l-INqn23IY&list=PLBB7C5B1A2FD68AD7, or “Blow the House down” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UU17VLiypY&list=PLBB7C5B1A2FD68AD7)

Sorry if i’m off topic, but sometimes trailers are great to bring old bands back to memories and I think Siouxsie deserves it ;> !
