Interview

Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright on The Today Show with a new clip from S4

The Stark children may be leagues apart in Westeros, but this morning Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright stopped by The Today Show to promote the new season of Game of Thrones.

The trio are in town for tonight’s Season 4 red carpet premiere, but gave little away of what we can expect from the Starks, other than they seem to be moving even farther apart. They discuss the massive reaction the The Red Wedding, the strong female characters on the show, and how they deal with the fanfare at such a young age.

Be sure to check out the video as it contains a clip from a new scene between Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister!

    Keep up the fight!

  • jentario,

Its certainly NOT a Mads Mads Mads Mads World!!!!

You failed to report the reasons why:
    1) The job already belongs to Jason Isaacs
    2) Mads is Danish
    3) Mads is not pretty enough
    4) Mads can be knocked over with a feather
    5) Mads is good at Hold ‘Em but terrible at Pai Gow
    6) Mads is busy playing baby Hopkins
    7) Mads is still Danish

  • Hand of the Kingslayer:
    jentario,

What? No way… That sucks :(

Aren’t you two the same person? :p

And Shepherds we shall be For Thee my Lord, for Thee Power hath descended forth from Thy hand Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands. So we shall cast Mads Mikkelsen as Euron for Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patri, Et Filii, Et Spiritus Sancti.

  • Rygar,

after seeing the beginning of Hannibal Season 2, I have to object against 4.) He manages to hold his own against Morpheus, after all.

  • Isaac’s really well-spoken. And he’s growing up very attractive.
Also lovely to see the parents of the kids. I love how you can easily tell which one’s which :)

  • Wiener, wiener wiener oneeeeeeeee weiner next to another weiner, two weiners next to yet another weinerrrrr, weiner weiner wiener weiner, threee weiners nice and soft not erect weinerssssss wiener weiner !!!!

If this is true then is wish, that James Purefoy gets the role. But is it confirmed, that Euron is going to appear?

  • Deathdreams: I always thought these two were the same person?

Wasn’t Jentario “Hand of the Kingslayer”‘s old name?

    Connor: Jeez! It’s a fuckin’ six-shooter. Fuck!
    Murphy: There’s nine bodies, genius.
Connor: What the fuck were you gonna do, laugh the last three to death, Funny-Man?Murphy: Nah, Mads Mikkelsen as Euron will take care of them

  • Off topic but does anyone know if the Fat Man will be at the premiere ? Maybe someone will ask him about the recent EW article which states there are only going to be 7 seasons

  • Deathdreams:
What we’ve got here…is failure to cast Mads Mikkelsen as Euron Greyjoy.

    Here here :p

Everytime I see your name I always want to ask you how it’s like to have worked on Her, the Fighter, Interstellar and so many other great movies :p

And then I remember that it’s Hoyte Van Hoytema who worked on those projects. Your name really confuses me.

    Satin:
    Rygar,

And there are the great fight scenes in King Arthur and Valhalla Rising. The Mads is more than capable enough of fighting like a badass.

If there’s magic in boxing, it’s the magic of fighting battles beyond endurance, beyond cracked ribs, ruptured kidneys and detached retinas. It’s the magic of risking everything to cast Mads Mikkelsen as Euron

  • JonSnow17:

Well a premiere would be a distraction from having to write a book so of course he’ll be there.

  • jentario:
    Veltigar,

    Yes.

So you are Hand of the Kingslayer’s Tyler Durden?

Welcome to Fight Club. The first rule of Fight Club is: you Cast Mads Mikkelsen as Euron. The second rule of Fight Club is: you CAST Mads Mikkelsen as Euron!

  • @Veltigar So what are you going to do if they don’t cast Mads, kill yourself ? If you do at least put it on the internet so we can all see it .

  • JonSnow17,

I often think your remarks are kind of hilarious in a cranky way, but that went a little far. Let him have his Euron dreamcasting. Everyone has those.

  • JonSnow17:
@Veltigar So what are you going to do if they don’t cast Mads, kill yourself ? If you do at least put it on the internet so we can all see it .

I’ll invite you all for a livestream :p

    Hand of the Kingslayer:
    JonSnow17,

Hopefully he won’t go all Al Swearengen on it.

    What did he do?

Also are you Jentario’s Tyler Durden or not?

Captain James Hook: Prepare to die, Peter Pan!
Peter Banning: To die would be a grand adventure!
Captain James Hook: Death is the only adventure you have left!
Peter Banning: no, there is still casting Mads Mikkelsen as Euron

  • To get back to subject – my daughter and her boyfriend are second RW watchers on Today Show montage. He was crushed and couldn’t speak the remainder of the night. Har

  • @Satin Ok maybe i did, i’m trying to surpass Rygar as the next member no one wants around them :)

  • I know that Tyrion line about Cat is supposed to be funny, but making jokes about dead people in front of their mourning relatives is just tacky and insensitive.

  • Talisa’s ghost:
I know that Tyrion line about Cat is supposed to be funny, but making jokes about dead people in front of their mourning relatives is just tacky and insensitive.

I agree. It was unnecessary to remind viewers of Catelyn arresting Tyrion, some fault her for the entire WOT5K and this will continue to demonize her, make Sansa look dumb again, and make Tyrion oh-so-awesome and funny.

Of course though, I’m optimistic this scene will be followed with Sansa showing a cunning of her own by meeting up with a certain someone.

  • Leo,

I don’t care about the criticism some bring to a lot of the female GoT characters, since plenty of them have sexist arguments, but the way they phrased it sounded like he was saying “oh she tried to kill me once, that mother of yours, dodged a bullet there, guess she didn’t oops”. He didn’t need to rub his survival in her face when her family didn’t manage to do so. Especially not when it’s his family’s fault. Maybe after seeing the whole scene it will look better and like you said, it might just be a plan of Sansa’s to meet with Dontos and make her husband pity her and let her go to the godswood without any guards trailing her. Fingers crossed!

  • Evan:
Does anyone know if there will be all three Greyjoy uncles?

Yes. Merged into a single character named…..Tim?

  • Just going to put it out there, but maybe Tyrion is supposed to come across as tacky and insensitive (although I fully expect that scene to be viewed as another case of “whitewashing”).

Also, I would bet the fingers on one hand that the scene is a set-up for Sansa meeting Dontos in the Godswood.

  • jentario,

I went back to watch it once I’d uploaded it and yeah, I’d say the same. A forum of its own on WiC today might be overkill after all that’s gone on, but it could be saved for a slow-news day, when we only have {gasp} 2 new pages up :O.

But there were plenty of spoilers for season 4. After all, we now know for instance in a Michelle Maclaren-directed episode (4 or 5), Hodor is going to be standing on a hill and also, he’s going to say Hodor :P.

  • Jordan,

I think that Sansa’s reaction to that comment will be a blank stare, and Tyrion will just be embarrassed at himself. As he should be. That was the opposite of smooth.

  • GeekFurious,

To be fair, the video did too. But yeah, it was a bit presumptuous. I bet any potential fans that watched that automatically gave up on the show when she spoiled it for them. A spoiler warning would have been nice…

  • Evan,

It’s not clear to me why any other the brothers are essential to the core story, so why include them at all ?

  • Firewall & Iceberg also reviewed the first three episodes and talked about it on their video cast.

so the purple wedding is the second half of the second episode and apparently it goes on uninterrupted and it does seem we’ll be getting a lot of Ramsay Snow

  • “When you have 2 dragons”… It’s 3 ya sanctimonious shitbag

Sir illyn bring me her head!!!!

  • Mirri Maz:

I don’t think we’ll get all that much of him, it’s just that Sepinwall really, really hates that character.

  • Looks like Sansa has learned some Crocodile tears from Walter White. I don’t believe she’s really crying. Maybe she’s finally learning to play the game

  • SANSA…..i nearly wanted to cry seeing her cry

p.s while i think sophie is an amazing person all my love goes to her character …. shes just so beautifully flawed and yet so strong

  • Jordan,

That’s what I think…I believe their relatively-ok relationship is going to crash and burn, starting here. Because Tyrion isn’t all that good with the feels. Jokes, yes; feels, no.

    links pls?

  • Talisa’s ghost,

I think the comment is in there to provide a little humor, but also to remind the viewers about Catelyn. I expect there will be plenty of mentions of her peppered through the episodes as a reminder.

  • Rygar,

    Uncle VicEurAeroIronUrine-ioneon.

Seriously, did GRRM purposefully make every uncle’s name practically the same? I still can’t tell them apart.

  • I love how in the interview the children are the mature ones, while the adults come off looking and sounding childish, awkward and cringeworthy…

Al Rocker’s weird intro, plus injecting the word “girl-power” into the conversation is pretty funny… as is seeing these “reporters” trying to sound hip and cool…and failing so spectacularly!
