New Cersei and Jaime scene unveiled on Late Night

“Come for the incest, stay for the dragons.” -Seth Meyers

Lena Headey visited Late Night with Seth Meyers last night to chat about season 4 and shared a new clip from the upcoming season with the audience. The actress discussed her character (whom she describes as “damaged”) and Cersei’s state of mind now that Jaime has returned from captivity.

The interview begins at 28 minutes into the full episode below, and the new season 4 scene, featuring a tense Cersei and Jaime Lannister, is introduced at 33 minutes.

Fans should also check out the story of the host’s own encounter with George R.R. Martin, shared at 12 minutes into the video. Meyers is a huge fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, and it won’t really surprise anyone who has read the books that when he ran into the author, it somehow turned into a discussion all about food.

Ours is the Fury:
Always good to have a host that loves and understands GoT!

  • this cant be my first first….

    this 1s for SANSA

daimit ..hodor beat me …. now the lady sansa will never take me seriously

  • I watched everything released before season 3, so I’m going to pass on this (although I have a feeling I’ll fail).

  • I’ve found the interview on youtube which is adorable – LOVE Lena – but no clip… seven hells…

  • Yep. That’s typical for something on a network website. I have no doubt it will find its way onto youtube, vimeo or tumblr very quickly though.

  • Thank god that i use a proxy, assholes can’t tell i’m from a different country, serves them right .

  • Thanks for posting this. I watched Emilia on Fallon, started The Late Show but fell asleep before Lena’s interview.

  • Jaime and Kevan. The two Lannisters who don’t have cool made up names. I have always wondered how Tywin’s eldest son didn’t have a similar sounding name but the dwarf that killed his beloved wife did? Anyways, nice video.

It’s just an elaborate ruse to cover up the fact that Tyrion is really Aerys’ son.

    Kidding. I hate that theory.

  • WeirwoodTreeHugger,

That theory holds no water. First of all we only get confirmation that Aerys “took special privelages” in the bedding of Joanna Lannister. The bedding occurs when you are wed. Meaning that if anyone isn’t a Lannister it’s Jaime and Cersei. The incest between them makes sense if they are Targaryen as does the madness that Cersei experiences along with her infatuation when burning the tower of the hand to the ground. That theory atleast is mildly possible. The Tyrion Targeryen theory is ridiculous and has 0% chance of being true.

  • Ser Davos Seaworth:
    Tyrion Pimpslap,

i can’t watch the video, but does it confirm Ser Kevan returning in season 4? since you mentioned him

    THAAANNNKSS!!!!!

    ”You took too long”

    ”What are you saying?”

”I’m saying you took too long”

    What a bitch :)

  • Everybody just download Mediahint and all your “not available in this region” problems are solved!!

  • Wow, I knew it already, but CERSEI IS HARDCORE!

She just needs a good fuck, me thinks. Jaime, get busy!

John Bradley interview today…. gives a pretty massive spoiler which will disappoint a lot of book readers, mostly a certain character that will NOT be appearing on the show: COLDHANDS IS NOT IN THE SHOW! The specific quote is about the 16min mark.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7FnnCLLOi4#t=980

Personally, I would also venture to guess him saying “There are some things people will be expecting to be in this season that won’t be” is referring to Jon being offered Winterfell. There is no Val. And without a Val or some other female character than it serves no purpose to offer a single Jon Snow Winterfell. So I don’t think that’s going to happen. I’d bet good money he’s referring to that with that comment.

  • slayjoy,

It’s not disappointing if you had the common sense to realize he was already cut when he didn’t show up last season.

  • Tyrion Pimpslap,

I see what you’re saying, but he easily could have easily been added this season with Bran’s storyline beyond the Wall. Just could have cut him out last season in Sam’s storyline.

  • zod,

I would think John Bradley would be speaking about his storyline at the Wall. I think LS is still in, and it makes most sense for her to appear at the end of this season. There was a guy on Reddit who said he had viewed the screeners for s4 and that there is a mention of Catelyn’s body being tossed into the river in one of the episodes. I guess we’ll have to wait to see if it is legit.

OT: Skip to 3:50 for an extended Wall Street Journal interview with John Bradley-West.

I laughed a lot when John spoiled a part of the wire for that poor woman in the audience. I guess it would be kind of cool for a celebrity to spoil a story for you. That’s a lot better than some jerk on youtube spoiling it for you.

Good thing I finished the wire this past winter.

Huh. Did not see that coming. I always assumed that that character would be a late appearance, much like Shireen’s introduction was pushed back to Season 3.

I would not be surprised if Val was also on the chopping block, as suggested upthread. However, Lady Stoneheart being cut would really surprise me.

  • cosca,

It would drastically alter Jaime and Brienne’s storyline if she was cut. While I didn’t really like the twist of bringing Cat back in the books, I do look forward to more Michelle Fairley.

  • cosca,

Oh, you mayhem maker! Let me see that list of reasons for a flamewar again. Last time I couldn’t concentrate well. You see, I started crying at
    1. Tyrion should have died at the Battle of Blackwater.
    Then it all went downhill…

Thanks to the update for Coldhands! And I do hope to see at least Uncat.

  • asfastasican: I laughed a lot when John spoiled a part of the wire for that poor woman in the audience. I guess it would be kind of cool for a celebrity to spoil a story for you. That’s a lot better than some jerk on youtube spoiling it for you.

He spoiled it for me too. Damn! I’ll try to forget…

  • I too want to see LS cut just to see people like Stone Cold Bastard cry some more, it gives me personal satisfaction seeing book purists cry .

  • I LOVE LENA THE MOST

Can I say again how much more well rounded a human Cersei is in the show?? Even in scenes like this where she is just AWFUL, I Feel like there’s something human there which doesn’t come across in the books. Like the similar character Servilla from Rome it’s all about HATING her but still getting where she’s coming from. Book Cersei can be a little tough sometimes, although walk of shame certainly hit me hard.

  • Strider,

    I believe it was:

“Tyrion should have died at Blackwater.

Cat deserved the RW for how she treated Jon Snow

AFFC/ADWD are travesties that should never have been written, ASOS should have served as an open ending to the series.

Renly would objectively have been a better King than Stannis

Sorry Neil, George RR Martin IS my bitch”

I stand by these objectively true statements.

    Tyrion Pimpslap,

True, but then, D&D will need to make drastic changes anyway. I’m sure they could write around her if they need to, just as they’re going to write around Quentyn and Young Griff

  • Ah, someone already put up the John Bradley interview. Well done.

I’m sure Lady Stoneheart won’t be cut. Would they deny Michelle the opportunity to run around zombified? I think not. Remember Bran’s bizarro dream of his Mum last year, that did seem like a bit of foreshadowing.

And also (spoiler from that reddit post about 4.01) apparently it’s mentioned that Cat’s throat was cut and she was thrown into the river in the premiere. (This was confirmed by the person who made the post and was obviously at the screening – she also posted photos from inside the building) Which is what happens in the books before… you know. I doubt Nymeria will play a role here, though.

  • Summer is Coming,

    Thx for the link!

Awesome article, and I love EW, whoever writes for them always seems hip to the GoT subject matter.

It’s good to hear that they have seen the first 3 episodes and guarantee us Pedro is going to be everything we all hope The Red Viper will be…

  • Lena is just amazing, I love her as Cersei, she hits every scene IMO.

Only a little more then 2 weeks away!

  • I actually think John Bradley confirmed that CH will be in this season because he said “he doesn’t have as big a part as he did in the books”and he was clearly referring to CH not being there for his particular scene in season 3. Val might be cut though, however, imagine being an unsullied viewer who most likely wants to see more mysterious supernatural stuff like Coldhands and hot potential love interests for Jon like Val so cutting them would be dumb if ur gonna have characters like Ros ffs.

  • cosca,

-Arya should have been caught by the kingsguard.
-Jon should have been defeated by qhourin halfhand.
-Jaime shouldnt reach brienne at harrenhal alive.
-Ned should have been killed by jaime.
-The freys did not need kill catelyn.
-Bran would still be trapped under a burned winterfell.
    -Davos should have drowned.
-Stannis should have beheaded Davos, before the letter.
Jorah and barristan could not have conquered meereen
Theon surviving the escape from winterfell.
Myrcella should have died from Darkstar.
    Thoros awakening Beric.
    Gregor surviving Beric.

  • Tatters,

All true. Jon is boring, I’d take a Qhorin Halfhand POV over him any day. Davos, Bran, Arya, they’ve all over stayed their welcome. Seriously, just too many characters at this point. Should’ve taken out Dany while we’re at it. But GRRM didn’t have the balls, so now we’re stuck with a cast of millions and zero plot progression.

  • cosca,

Why not send the meteorite so you get your wish fullfilment ending after all.
For me Qhourin was as broing as Jon, typical fantasy tripe.

  • Crabber’s Son Except Bloodraven and a Child of the Forest were already cast so we don’t need Coldhand’s useless ass to fill the supernatural quota .

  • Off topic, but does anybody else wonder if this season will finally start to show that Jon and Arya are wargs? It’s understandable that they decided to hold off on that for awhile but I think they need to start including that. It’s crucial for Arya as it’s what will prevent her from truly becoming No One.

Objectively true statements? Huh. I should have paid more attention in epistemology.

And really, given the opportunity, I highly doubt you would talk to Neil in that tone, tough guy.

  • cosca:
    Strider,
I stand by these objectively true statements.

But of course you do. I would not sob in my coffee half so hard if these would not be objective!
The first one did me in again so… What do we say the the Mayhem God’s minion?! #NotToday

On a different note. You are leaving me with only 1 wild direwolf?! Jon’s a Snow, NW for life; Sansa is a Tully until Martin starts putting some Stark in her veins, which leaves the missing one. We haven’t heard from him in so long, I’ve forgotten his name! You Sir sound like you are leaving me with nothing!

  • cosca:
Hopefully LS and CH will be cut

That is an interesting position. Not saying I disagree, but I wonder how workable it really is.

CH I definitely agree, as he is essentially just a supernatural chauffeur. But LS I’m no so sure can be summarily excised from the plot. I agree her resurrection undercuts the tragedy of the RW, but given that it happens in the books, either it needs to happen in the show or else D&D need to come up with some substantial plot points for core characters like Jaime and Brienne. As well as secondary BWB characters, assuming we ever see them again.

Also, they made a point to show off Thoros’ magical resurrection powers last season, it seems reasonable to expect that that isn’t the last we see of that particular skill — although I do realize they wrote Melissandre into a related scene and I suspect we all know who she’s going to be resurrecting.

  • sati,

    Finally a sighting of Mance!

And it seems the big moment at the PW will happen outside. I thought it would happen in the throne room…

    sati,

    Finally a sighting of Mance!

And it seems the big moment at the PW will happen outside. I thought it would happen in the throne room…

The synopsis for the ep doesn’t talk about the wedding but a breakfast…of course the wedding happens but I think they will just show expanded footage of the wedding from trailers and then the majority of events – introduction of Ellaria, the mocking at the expense of Tyrion and Joff’s death happens outside.

  • wizardeyes,

We’ve known for ages the reception was taking place outside. It’ll just be a courtyard of the Red Keep most likely (though I’ve noticed they’ve not CGed in any walls in the background of the shots we’ve seen so far). Good thing too really, it gives the crews much more space to work with. It would’ve worked indoors if the throne room was a big as in the books (comparable in scale to St. Pauls Cathedral).

I can’t wait to see Lena’s performance during the entire sequence. Making fun of everyone she bumps into; being safe and happy, then her joy turns to ashes in her mouth. Tyrion’s “proph-threat-ic” (ba dum tish) words are finally coming true :).

  • asfastasican,

The a Wire ended five years ago. That is way way way way way way way way past the time where people can still bitch about “spoilers”. People should be free to talk about something tant ended years ago and it’s not their responsibility to make sure every single person in the world has seen it. And yes, I let my friends talk about episodes I have not seen. Because I’m almost 30 damn years old.

  • Arvi Kalervo Dahki: I think LS will be important in future books… if some theory floating around the internet holds… it was even foreshadowed by that Cat/Talisa scene

I think the biggest foreshadowing was with pale, manic Cat in Bran’s dream.

  • sati,

    Thanks, wasn’t expecting that.

How badass is Styr in this? It’s nice to see unnecessary characters sometimes.

  • I hope youtube.com will not take those down because of authorship (it could be watched only in three European countries), but I stated all the rights are reserved by HBO when uploading, so it should not be a problem.

Also, the old-new Tyrion II chapter from TWOW is out now, available for reading after updating your World of Ice and Fire apps, just to let you guys know. :)

  • I’m just so happy we’re getting more Burn Gorman this season. Stole the entire Craster’s Keep scene. Doubt things will end well for Karl though.

  • slayjoy,

Perhaps he was just referring to his role with CH in season 3, or I atleast hope so. He might be leading us astray just trying to surprise us if CH does pop up in season 4.

  • philemp: too long

Why not? It’s not like he can’t marry after he becomes the Lord of Winterfell. In fact, wouldn’t that greatly increase his chances of a good marriage to a highborn?
Val is really not necessary for Jon’s story, but Stannis offering him legitimacy and Winterfell and Jon being tempted but preferring to be a man of NW is a very important character moment.
And I hope they do that story at the same time as Ramsey gets legitimized – this would be a great way to parallel and contrast the two characters, who are going to be contrasted to each other the next season.

  • OMG!! His FACE!! D: And jeeeez she does a good Cersei – every line conveys like a thousand thoughts.

Just FYI, in case anyone is interested, as far as I can see, this post has been hijacked by people talking about other characters and arguing and I find that quite irritating. I know this isn’t ‘stay on topic’ type forum but still, I used the ‘find’ tool and Lena’s name is mentioned by 5 people (including myself).. out of 96 comments. And no Nikolaj..

I think they are awesome and I can’t wait for this scene.
How do you think it will end?
What do you think she means by ‘you took too long?’

I completely agree. I think this is one of a few characters who are better in the show than in the book. Although I guess, Joff is more evil in the show so they could tone down Cersei a bit. But ‘tone down’ isn’t really doing her justice.. she is not someone you cross. But yes, more human. Fantastic work. Cannot wait to see her change across the next two series.

  • Valaquen,
D&D said something about “whole new plot elements” while showing Bran in the “foreshadowing” thingy, so yeah, I think he’ll start greenseeing some past and future events. He’ll need to have something to do in season 5 anyway and the “no flashbacks rule” has to go rather sooner than later as well, this would be an elegant way of doing it.

  • cosca,

It’s not about whether or not you could “take him”, tough guy. Its about showing respect to others more accomplished than yourself, especially your elders.

And for somebody so frightening, Amanda Palmer is particularly adept at getting people to donate their money to her various artistic endeavors. Objectively true statement, and I stand by it.

  • LooYee,

Hope so too. I personally believe it wouldn’t make sense to cut that character as Bran is already north of the wall, which means unless they drag out his story for a season or two, there isn’t much more (in the books) for his story to cover. The trek to the COTF cave, meeting Bloodraven, and learning about the Weirnet. If they keep this arc on the same timeline as everyone else, there won’t be many Bran scenes this season and next. Considering all of this, I would have thought Coldhands would have been an interesting way to stretch out his story a little more, and adds to the mystery of Beyond the Wall.

Also, if Coldhands isn’t in the show, I’m assuming he’s not near as important as some of us think to the storyline. Who knows. Watch he shows up in the first episode hah.
