GRAVES: Yeah, there’s a battle in the tenth episode that is so VFX heavy and so complex, even on a feature level, that won’t be done until June right before it airs.

Given that the title of Episode 10 is The Children, I strongly suspect that the battle in question will be Bran, Hodor, and the Reeds versus the wights and the White Walkers outside of the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave, with the Children of the Forest coming to their aid. That sequence would have to be constructed almost entirely through visual effects.

Okay so according to my calculations this is what we can expect from this episode -

    King’s Landing
    Aftermath of PW
    Sansa’s escape
    Pod visits Tyrion in cell
Tywin offers Oberyn a seat on the small counsel and pushes for Tommen’s coronation
    Jaime/ Cersei sept sex
    Marg/ Olenna

    Dragonstone
    Stannis/ Davos
    Shireen/ ?

    Meereen
    Dany reaches Meereen
    Daario vs champion
    meet Hizdahr

    Riverlands
    Arya/ The Hound

    The North
Sam takes Gilly to Mole’s Town
    Tormund and co

The most notable part in that interview:
“The show got picked up for two more seasons, which I know is a shocker to nobody with the ratings and popularity. Have you already talked to them about coming back for more episodes?
GRAVES: Yeah, certainly I would like to have gone back, they wanted me to come back, but David Nutter and I have a similar thing where when you do too many years in a row, you better be sure that your wife and kids are not really ready for you to do a third one. So I’m taking a break this year and I’m going to have some wonderful home time.”

Hard to do the dramatic landscape shots with fake snow. They’re doing the fake snow with the Bran scenes and it looks…fake! I admit it’s wonky when the North looked colder in season 1 than it does now, but I don’t really know how to solve that without pushing everything back a few months.

Okay, so if Stannis starts marching towards Winterfell next season, what will be there to slow him down? Do they just eliminate the snow and remove any obstacle he would face? It is reaching the point where the filming schedule is going to have to be moved back for the scenes in the North.

I can’t stand seeing nonreaders get spoiled, I get pissed off every time I go to youtube or the GoT Facebook page and see smug book readers either spoiling or insulting people for not reading the books because those places are filled with nonreaders. However this websites spoiler policy is mostly unnecessary. I don’t understand why people are always bitching about spoiler tags when the fact is this website is just a bunch of book readers discussing the books and always has been, the nonreader presence has always been almost nonexistent. Any nonreaders who do come here for news, what would be the purpose of reading the comments? They would never be able to follow any conversions because they are all spoiler discussions. I don’t like to see nonreaders get spoiled either but any nonreaders who don’t want to be spoiled would not be reading comments on a website like this in the first place.

Rubbish, JamesL. I am fanatically in love with GoT, and live for each new episode. Of all the many pleasures show has to offer, the greatest of all is the way it repeatedly pulls the rug from under your feet with astonishing plot twists you didn’t see coming. I am reading the books without advancing ahead of the series, and itching to read more (I will proceed straight to AFFC and ADwD after this season, as I understand the surprises largely stop coming at that point), but I’m very keen to have the pleasure of learning of the plot twists that remain in store the same way that I have in the past. I know for a fact that I am very far from alone in this regard – as do the operators of this website, who go to the effort of providing separate recaps for book readers and unsullied.

So what I would like to do is indulge my love of the show by following blogs like this one and their comment threads, while also having the show continue to surprise me. I really don’t think it’s too much to ask that other commenters pay me the courtesy of allowing this to happen. Almost all book readers are very scrupulous in this respect, for which I am duly thankful. As a regular reader of the site, I have only twice encountered information that I would sooner not have heard.

    Cata-cocking-pults!

How this was the critic’s least favourite of the three they advance reviewed I don’t know, but episode 2 certainly proved it wouldn’t be offering up a disappointing follow-up to the premiere as nearly all shows including this one tend to do.

I always pictured that at the end of the series Stannis would end up dead meaning Shireen would be the only true Baratheon left and thus the only rightful heir, but she wouldn’t push any claim to the throne. Instead she would automatically support Daenerys and effectively give the Iron Throne, that her uncle Robert usurped, back to the Targaryens, because she’s loves to read the legends of the Targaryen kings and queens and knows who truly belongs on the throne.

Jospeh, I can’t comment on your point about Arya’s dream, but my view of the refurbished website varies according to which software I have running. On Windows XP I have a big blank space at the beginning of the page and have to scroll down to get to the posts and don’t have a “Home” button, but on Windows 7 it is a lot more “normal” though I do sometimes have to refresh the “Hide Spoilers” button.

I guess I’m imagining Sansa bookending the episode, so the opening would be Sansa’s escape, Dontos and Sansa heading off in the row boat. And then the final scene of the episode would be them boarding the ship, showing Littlefinger and the killing of Dontos. I reckon they’ll hold onto who killed Joffrey for the next episode, if it hasn’t already been revealed on the Tyrell end by then.

    Troublesome Birdsong,

Yeah I agree it would be cool for Sansa to bookend the episode however from the next time preview it seems that the episode will pick up exactly where the 2nd one ended with Cersei screaming at Tyrion. So maybe after Tyrion being marched away then it cuts to Sansa and Dontos running through the streets and getting in a row boat and rowing to the ship. The ending scene should definitely be Littlefinger explaining the poisoning to Sansa.

Stupid decision in my opinion as show LF is not so subtle and now all of the sudden they want to make him coy in a crucial moment? I would prefer the scene goes as it does in the books with LF claiming that he killed Joffrey. I love show LF but I don’t think I’ll like him in this episode

That green in the Tormund scene throws me off too, after all winter is coming and we will have snow in the Vale which is farther south than south of the wall. D&D really need to start filming the series set in the north in snow (or fake snow) because it’s starting to get ridiculous with all the green where there shouldn’t be.
Looks like Arya is complaining about selling the horses, why did the Hound get rid of them? Tune in Sunday to find out.

Missandei! Missed you this past week. It’s hard to endure a week without one of the three most beautiful women on GoT. (Can we have a new hair style please, the one she has had for two seasons is getting tiresome plus its a little racist)

Yeah well Tyrion’s confession is obviously just a pure spiting of Jaime, I never even considered it being believable. Littlefinger’s and Olenna’s explanations of how it went down though; I never felt any reason to doubt their involvement. Its possible there’s more to it of course though

  81. Tyrion Pimpslap
    Posted April 18, 2014 at 4:38 pm | Permalink

    jennyofoldstones,

It’s kind of hard not to believe Littlefinger, since Dontos was clearly working for him, and it was Dontos who supplied the hairnet/poison. Unless you don’t believe that the hairnet contained the poison. I still can’t think of a good reason why the poison needed to be smuggled in via the hairnet. Did the Tyrells have no access to poison? It’s not like Olenna would have been strip searched if she just carried it in herself. I think the most believable reason would be that the Tyrells planned on framing Sansa and had no idea of Littlefinger’s plan to smuggle Sansa out of KL. But George sort of dismissed that theory in a recent interview by saying that it was meant to look like Joffrey simply choked to death. So the hairnet still seems pointless to me.

    Tyrion Pimpslap,

I wouldn’t mind if the show makes a change where they do trace it back to Sansa. Otherwise it was a pointless charade by Olenna.

    Greenjones,

What podcast said this? The avclub review is the only one I saw that said episode 3 is the weakest.

Episode 3 is likely to be the strongest overall.
We can see in the previews several action sequences.

    JamesL,

Variety’s Brian Lowry mentioned in his review of the last episode that episode 3 is another really good one. He hasn’t read the books, so he is focusing solely on the show and not comparing it to the books, as the AV Club review seemed to do.

HBO uploaded the recap that is going to be shown right before next episode. It may give some clues to what we’ll see in the episode proper.

How epic would it be if we could see Robert fighting Rhaegar in Bran’s vision in the future. I would like to see Bran’s visions on the show be some sort of a way to show flashbacks like which we haven’t seen.
