Gwendoline Christie Trades Westeros for Westwood

Gwendoline Christie came to fame for playing Brienne of Tarth, the “Ugly Maid” of Westeros who doesn’t care much for propitiatory or gender expectations, preferring to bend them to be herself. Though she spends most of her time on screen in armor and masculine clothing, Christie herself is a self proclaimed girly-girl who loves fashion. It was therefore a bit of a marriage made in heaven last Spring when she walked the runway for Vivienne Westwood’s gender bending runway show and her Fall 2015 collection. Now it turns out Westwood has gone another step further and hired Christie to be the face of her Fall campaign.

You might recognize that hat, which is one she sported during the runway show. As for the fossil appliques on the veil, that’s deliberate. For the past several years, Westwood has had a “Save the Earth” theme to her collections.

Who needs The Red God? Christie is more than happy to be King Renly’s version of Melisandre. Call her “The Lace Priestess.”

Do we think this is the dress she wore to the Ball when Renly saved her from all those terrible boys making fun of her? (By the way, you know Renly’s going around at all the clubs telling his friends that the new face of Westwood was part of his Rainbow Guard and got her start with him.)

Daenerys Targaryen, you and your bespoke necklaces can eat your little dragon hearts out.
