Pictures and Video of Extras and Banners as Filming Begins in Girona

After a week and a half of preparation, today is the first day the Game of Thrones production team will be filming Season 6 in Girona, according to the schedule. And the extras are in costume and headed off to work in the Braavosi marketplace!

According to Diari de Girona, filming began at 9am sharp, with extras walking the streets from the park where all the trailers are stationed for hair and makeup to the Braavosi marketplace set we’ve seen completed in the last few days. Maisie Williams is also filming there today. There aren’t any pictures of her as of yet, nor did she have to make the trek by foot, as they noted a car took her directly inside the enclosed area.

And here’s a very interesting one: litter-carrying practice. This looks to be for King’s Landing, if the colors of the litter are any indication.

As filming gets underway in Braavos, elsewhere in Girona, King’s Landing continues to rise.

But there’s one picture from El Punt Avui that really caught my attention.

As we saw earlier in the week, this area is being set up for a theatrical play within and play-type scene, if you will. We had speculated that it was for the play from The Winds of Winter chapter Mercy. This is the last Arya chapter we’ve had to date, in which she furthers her assassins training as part of a mummers’ troop that is, ironically, performing a play based on the events in King’s Landing from the previous seasons, with Tyrion as the villainous character who kills everyone Richard III style. It looks like this is confirmed with the banners of the Lion and the Stag (Lannister and Baratheon) adorning the stage balconies.
