Preparations for Game of Thrones Season 6 Continue in Peñíscola, Almería

The city of Peñíscola isn’t quite sure what to do about all the international attention it’s getting, as the sets rise for Game of Thrones Season 6. Road closures only just began, and filming doesn’t start for another week. And yet, according to El Mundo, press outlets from Russia, the UK, and France have all contacted the city, looking for access to production during next week’s preparations. Their sources suggest that the Russian press have been granted access and are expected to arrive next week.

This wouldn’t be the first time a Spanish city has quietly made a deal with certain channels for exclusive access. Last season, Seville, where Dorne was being filmed, gave exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Canal+. Meanwhile, in Osuna, The Daily Mail was there every day to grab exclusive photos of extras filing to and from the filming site, as gave us our first hint that Tyrion and Dany would meet.

Meanwhile, the area of the Plaza de Santa Maria continues to look less like a Spanish city square and more like a set from the HBO program.

And with all the set pieces starting to spill out of corners, locals are posting shots of the preparations to Twitter.

As to where exactly on Planetos we are, no one is quite sure. Levante-EMV has been quizzing the extras as they go in and out of the enclosed base camp for costume fittings, but so far everyone is keeping mum.

At least we have a good idea of what’s being filmed in Almería, the final area of Spain that Game of Thrones will film in this season. La Voz de Almería brings us another updated photo of the Dothraki camp set that been slowly rising over the last few weeks (above.) They also report that the first extras have been called in for fittings, and though they are as discrete as the extras in Peñíscola, the set basically gives the game away.

La Voz has also been told that the first few days of shooting in Almería will be night shoots, so take that under advisement when speculating exactly what will be filmed here.
