Filming In Saintfield Rolls Into Yet Another Week, Riverrun Filming Delayed

Filming in Saintfield for Game of Thrones Season 6 is like the Energizer Bunny. It just keeps on going and going….

And the smoke keeps blowing and blowing…

Set up for this battle sequence began the week of September 8th. This week marks the fifth week of filming said battle sequence, which equals the length of time it took to film the Massacre at Hardhome last season.

Since photos revealing a big spoiler leaked out of Saintfield, the show has cracked down hard on anyone getting close, so most of the pictures are of blowing smoke, blowing snow from afar, or large herds of extras in costume waiting for the snow and smoke to start blowing again. But with so much time spent in the area (our first post about it was way back in the second week of August, which makes the production’s stay here a possible record at nine weeks and counting), it looks like whatever the show is continuing to keep under wraps is going to blow us away in episode nine.

Let’s hope it’s also keeping the show’s filming crew in Ireland occupied. Watchers on The Wall reports today that the filming of what looks to be the siege at Riverrun (which we were all looking forward to starting this week), has been delayed due to bureaucratic red tape and building codes. Hopefully they’ll get it sorted out sooner or later. Or at least before winter.
