Game of Thrones/Star Wars mashup: The Hype Awakens

WARNING: SPECULATION AND SPOILERS FOR THINGS THAT MAY NEVER ACTUALLY COME TO PASS FOLLOW

As we near the end of the week and the hype from the third and final Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer finally starts to die down, a new hype has awakened. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, then you’re probably familiar with the hype train that is CLEGANEBOWL, a fan theory that holds that not only did both of the Clegane brothers survive their recent brushes with death, but that they will fight each other in The Winds of Winter/Game of Thrones Season 6. YouTuber Marles Barkley drew inspiration from that theory for this Star Wars/Game of Thrones mashup, which comes complete with legendary composer John Williams’ score from the third Force Awakens trailer and Game of Thrones characters battling with lightsabers…this couldn’t get any better.

You’ve got to appreciate the editing involved with the crescendo of the score coming together with The Mountain carrying Cersei to safety. There’s also the epic lightsaber duel between Brienne and The Hound, which again is improved by John Williams’ score. I’ve seen The Mountain and The Viper duel with lightsabers before, but it fit perfectly in this video.

While we’re on the topic of making Game of Thrones fight scenes into Star Wars lightsaber duels, one of my favorite GIF sites—COUB—has a great library full of exactly that. This one is a particular favorite of mine.

And as for a more recent and relevant mashup GIF, this one features the events of Daznak’s Pit, along with Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones…with some Gladiator and John Carter of Mars thrown in.
