Gwendoline Christie says Game of Thrones Season 6 is “More Epic”

Gwendoline Christie, who portrays Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones, sat down with Extra to talk about Game of Thrones Season 6 and her role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Christie is interviewed by Extra‘s Mario Lopez (although he will always be Slater to me), and mentions that the scripts for Game of Thrones Season 6 are “truly exceptional and more epic than anything we’ve seen before.”

I love how Lopez tries to get Christie to spill the beans on Jon Snow. Notice, however, that she does not deny that Jon does in fact come back from the dead. I also like how she acknowledges the fact that filming both Star Wars and Game of Thrones in a wonderful problem to have. I wonder if the reason we rarely saw Brienne in Season 5 was because she was filming The Force Awakens. Remember, we saw Brienne in basically three major scenes in Season 5:

  • Finding Sansa at the Inn at the Crossroads and then dispatching the House Arryn guards.
  • Chilling in an inn outside of Winterfell
  • Killing Stannis

She was briefly in other scenes, but they were a far cry from Brienne’s spotlight-stealing scenes in Season 4…like when she kicked Sandor Clegane’s ass, to name just one.

I also like how Christie reverently describes walking on to the set of The Force Awakens in her Captain Phasma armor (“So is this really happening?“). Also, she confirms that her character is “a member of the Dark Side.” As a Star Wars fan, I can’t help but wonder if that means she has a much larger role to play in The Force Awakens than just being a chromed-out stormtrooper.

Hopefully, now that The Force Awakens is finished filming, Christie will have a larger role in Game of Thrones Season 6. Of course, she could be in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is filming right now, which may mean that she’d have to split time between Game of Thrones and Star Wars. Oh, what a wonderful problem to have.
