Sophie Turner on that long-awaited Stark family reunion

Last night, Game of Thrones fans finally got something they’d been wanting years for: a happy moment in which two of the wayward Stark children reunited. This seemed like the kind of thing Game of Thrones would never give us, and for a lot of people watching at home, it had to have been deeply cathartic.

Another angle on Jon and Sansa’s hug, because you can’t have too many angles on this moment. Daaaw.

Sophie Turner, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the scene, enjoyed it, too. “It’s such an emotional moment. She finally made it to Castle Black. And there’s this look where they’re just studying each other’s faces, with no expression. Then there’s this long embrace. It’s just awesome.”

"I’m most excited for the fact I get to see Kit and get to act with him. Kit is one of my best mates and we had just one scene together in the pilot, where we’re waiting on the king. It’s like working with an older brother. I’ve watched his work over the past four years and I think he’s amazing. He’s so focused and dedicated."

You’ll recall that, in the scene Turner refers to, Jon was standing in the back, and he and Sansa didn’t even exchange any lines. It’s interesting that these two Stark kids should reunite, seeing as they were probably the two who were least close. But then again, that made it special, because even though they weren’t close before, the fact that they’re both still standing gives them an immediate bond.

If Sansa once looked down on Jon for being a bastard, her experiences since leaving Winterfell have taught her empathy. “People can kind of assume that Sansa’s very much like her mother and her mother wasn’t very fond of Jon,” she said. “But Sansa is also different from her mother so she tries her best.”

Finally, Turner implied that Sansa’s new take-charge attitude won’t be abating anytime soon. “She’s been through so much,” she said. “She knows Jon is her older brother and Davos is older and wiser, but she’s probably been through more than both of them. She’s not just going to go along with other people’s decisions.”

That also seems to imply that Sansa and Davos will share some scenes, which I am all here for.
