Game of Thrones ratings bounce back after Memorial Day dip with “The Broken Man”

Last week, Game of Thrones‘ same-day ratings fell a bit with “Blood of My Blood,” the sixth episode of the the show’s sixth season. That episode pulled in only 6.71 million live viewers, which is kind of like saying Donald Trump is worth only 4.5 billion dollars, but whatever. The likely culprit was Memorial Day Weekend, as people had barbecues to attend and beaches to visit and couldn’t spare time to watch Game of Thrones as it aired.

Lyanna Mormont does not indulge in holiday fun when there is business to be done.

Well, there was no holiday to deal with this weekend, and the show was back on top. According to Spoiler TV, “The Broken Man” was watched live by 7.80 million people, and received a 4.0 demo rating. It’s closest cable competition came from Girl Meets World over on Disney, which pulled in 2.2 million live viewers.

Season 6 is still on track to be the most-watched year of the show. “The Broken Man” was the fourth most-watched episode of Season 6, which puts it in the lower half so far as this year is concerned, but it’s still the sixth most-watched episode in the show’s history, since the ratings for almost every episode of Season 6 have been better than at pretty much any other point in the show’s past.

Ratings for Game of Thrones tend to tick upward as the season progresses, and we feel compelled to point out that the final three episodes of Season 6 will be a good deal longer than the previous two. The show is gearing up for a big finish, and we expect ratings to keep going up. With 8.11 million live viewers, “Mother’s Mercy” currently holds the record for most-watched Game of Thrones episode. Will one of the final Season 6 episodes beat it?
