Michael Huisman deflects questions about Daario Naharis’ future on Game of Thrones

When Daenerys Targaryen set sail for Westeros in the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale, she left someone very important behind. Daario Naharis, the hardened mercenary turned love-sick puppy, stayed behind in Meereen while the woman he loved sailed west with all her strength. Although there’s room for interpretation, the show made it seem like that would be the last we of the character.

But is it? In a recent interview with Radio Times, actor Michael Huisman demurred when asked what the future holds for Daario.

"Well, we don’t know! I can’t say anything about that."

If Huisman wasn’t going to reprise his role in Game of Thrones Season 7, then why dance around the answer? Couldn’t he just say that he wasn’t coming back? As it was, he just said that [Daenerys] left him behind,” and that her storyline looks to be going in a different direction. He also talked about the show in the present tense, which could suggest that he’s still a part of it.

"Game of Thrones is an incredible show to be a part of, to be part of such a big cast."

Might Daario defy Dany’s command and follow her across the Narrow Sea? I wouldn’t put it past him. Remember, this is the same guy who decapitated his comrades in order to get into the good graces of the Mother of Dragons. He’s not huge on orders.

Meanwhile, Huisman and fellow Game of Thrones alum Robert Aramayo (Young Ned Stark) worked together on a Discovery Channel mini-series called Harley and the Davidsons. The last of three episodes just aired on September 7. Huisman portrayed Walter Davidson, while Aramayo portrayed Bill Harley.

Now we just sit back and wait for some enterprising Game of Thrones fan to snap a photo of Huisman landing in Belfast…but that would probably be too easy. Something tells me we’ll be waiting until the premiere of Season 7 in order to learn about Daario’s future.
