Daniel Portman talks about Podrick Payne’s secret powers, stays mum on Season 7

From the start, the world of Game of Thrones has been filled with questions. Who was Jon Snow’s mother? What was the origin of Hodor’s name? Will Daenerys ever make it to Westeros? Season 6 answered many of those questions, but one of biggest remains a mystery: is Podrick Payne some sort of magical sex god?

That mystery started in Season 3, when Tyrion sent Podrick off to a brothel with a big full of gold, a thank-you for saving his life during the Battle of the Blackwater. Podrick came back with the gold still in hand. It wasn’t that he didn’t avail himself of the women’s services—they just refused to take his money.

According to an interview with actor Daniel Portman in the Brisbane Times, fans often ask what happened in that brothel. By now, Portman has some clever answers for them:

"I tell them we just talked, he has multiple sets of genitalia that operate independently, beginners luck, a forked tongue… there’s a range of answers I give. They never actually told me what happened, I probably should tell you that because I have told so many people I do know what happens."

Classy television.

And so the mystery continues, although Portman doesn’t think we’ll ever get an answer:

"I don’t think it is terribly important to the arc really. It’s a side bar that has developed a cult following, four seasons later people are still asking me about it, but that was Podrick’s moment where he really landed."

And outside of Podrick’s big moment, what does Portman think of the show in general?

"I am such a fan of the show. I try not to read the scripts of scenes I’m not doing because I want to see it unfold on air. I am a huge fan of so many of the actors on the show I really look forward to seeing what they do with their storylines."

His discipline is admirable. Given the opportunity, many of us would probably read ahead to find out what happens to our favorite characters. Bravo, young squire.

And what about Season 7? Did Portman have anything to give us there?

"I’m not allowed to talk about season seven at all."

So, no. Portman’s lips are sealed. We’ll have to wait until Season 7 to find what happens to him, and his secret powers.
