8. Somewhere on Essos

First of all, we might all be a little naive thinking that Dany will head straight for Westeros after spending all her life on Essos. It’s possible she’ll make a pit stop on the west coast of the only continent she’s ever known first.

The free cities of Tyrosh and Lys both lie on the southern end of Essos, roughly parallel with Dorne, and would mark the last jumping off point for any ship looking to cross the Narrow Sea. She may also land in Volantis, which was a stopover point for both Tyrion and the Ironborn during their trips to Meereen. Might Dany lay up in one of these places to take on supplies? Varys could always pop across the Narrow Sea in his teleporter during the layover, gathering information that’ll help her launch her invasion.

But the most likely choice is Pentos. Pentos lies roughly parallel to both King’s Landing and Dragonstone, both desirable pieces of real estate. Pentos was where Daenerys first met Khal Drogo back in Season 1, and remains the home of House Targayen supporter Illyrio Mopatis. That means Pentos is a friendly port—stopping there would be a kind of homecoming.

But what about somewhere unexpected in Westeros, like the North or the Vale? The North seems unlikely, as Dany doesn’t know of anything important going on up there—she’s focused entirely on the Iron Throne. Even if she hasn’t let go of her grudge against House Stark for its part in Robert’s Rebellion, the North is out of the way. Likewise with the Vale. Like the Starks, the Arryns supported Robert, but Daenerys has bigger fish to fry.
