Maisie Williams teases “a huge cliffhanger” at the end of Game of Thrones Season 7

Considering the triple-digit death toll on Game of Thrones, surviving for six seasons is no small feat. The cast members whose characters have made it this far are hoping to cross the finish line in one piece, and there be special honors for members of that exclusive club. In a recent interview with TimeOut, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) discussed the possibilities:

"There are rumors that if you make it from season one to season eight there’s a tattoo that we all get…. We’re all waiting to see if we do make it. I was lucky enough to be in season one, even the pilot episode. If I do make it to season eight I will get it. It would be rude not to!"

Incidentally, Williams has already honored her time on Thrones with a tattoo. She and onscreen sister Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) got matching ink in September of last year, marking the date they were cast on the show: 07.08.09.

It’s definitely got more staying power than your typical BFF necklace.

As is custom with cast member interview, Williams went on to talk about the end of the show. Gotta give the people what they want.

"It’s just kind of tumbling now. We’ve come to the climax and it’s rolling down to the end. It’s exciting. I really felt like at the end of last season everything was set up for how it was going to end. Every character came to a little junction in their lives. Now we’re all going to crash down together to however this show ends."

With the remaining characters coming together and the White Walkers on the move, Game of Thrones certainly is gearing up for an eventful conclusion.

And what can fans expect from the end of Season 7? “A huge cliffhanger,” Williams laughed.

Cue the record scratch. Of course, the cast members are known for their good-natured teasing, so perhaps Williams is just pulling the fandom’s collective leg here. But the show has done season-ending cliffhangers before—Jon Snow’s death and the subsequent months of wild speculation come to mind—and it could well pull one out again. She did talk a little about the finale before, when she stopped by The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, saying “it’s just a great finale, and it makes me excited for the series after.” Hm.

Since we’ve got plenty of time on our hands—roughly five months until the Season 7 premiere—we might as well start wondering now. What sort of cliffhanger might Season 7 have in store for us? Will it torment the fandom as much as the Jon Snow murder cliffhanger did? Mull it over, and don’t forget your tinfoil hats.

We can also speculate about a far more important topic: What tattoo will the surviving cast members get? Swords, ravens, and house sigils are all viable options. They could also get a little more creative. Maybe their favorite line? A profile of Kit Harington, wearing Jon Snow’s perpetual pout? “I Went to Westeros and All I Got Was This Lousy Death Complex”? Because let’s face it, Game of Thrones can really make you question your own mortality.
