Emilia Clarke snapped with the Han Solo cast, Iwan Rheon gets a Marvel series, and more

As usual, Game of Thrones are up to all sorts of incident as we wait for season 7 to air. First, check out this photo of Emilia Clarke and her new bangs alongside her co-stars from the as-of-yet untitled Han Solo movie.

The name of Clarke’s character hasn’t been disclosed as of yet, but she certainly looks excited to be joining Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo) and Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) in the Star Wars universe. And Chewie. With Thrones already under her belt, Clarke can now boast of her involvement with two titans of fantasy fiction. All she needs now is a role in a Fantastic Beasts sequel, and she will be as successful a conquerer as Daenerys Targaryen.

Moving on to Kit Harington, following months of speculation, the actor has been confirmed as starring in a three-part BBC drama centering on the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Harington will take on the role of Robert Catesby, the leader of the group of rebels who plotted to install a Catholic head of state by assassinating King James I of England in 1605.

For those unfamiliar with British history, the Gunpowder Plot could have been lifted directly from an episode of Game of Thrones. Catesby’s plan — to blow up the House of Lords while Parliament was in session — failed when his infamous co-conspirator, Guy Fawkes, was caught guarding barrels of gunpowder in the cellars beneath Parliament. Fawkes gave up his leader’s name under torture and Catesby was subsequently killed, with head stationed outside Parliament as a warning to others. It’s a shame for Catesby that he didn’t have someone like Cersei Lannister on his side.

The role is a family affair for Harington, as not only is he a descendant of Catesby’s on his mother’s side, but another of his ancestors was inside the Houses of Parliament as the disgraced Catesby’s head was put on display.

"When his head was marched past the Houses of Parliament on a pike, John Harington, on my father’s side, who was in the Houses of Parliament at the time, looked at him and is quoted as saying: “He’s an ugly fellow, isn’t he?”"

Somehow, I can’t imagine anyone referring to Harington as an ‘ugly fellow.’ His co-stars will include Liv Tyler, Peter Mullan and Mark Gatiss, who starred in seasons 4 and 5 of Game of Thrones as Braavosi banker Tycho Nestoris.

From one not-so-ugly fellow to another, Pedro Pascal, last seen in Westeros with one hell of a headache, is promoting his movie The Great Wall. Pascal stars alongside Matt Damon as Tovar, a European mercenary who assists in fighting off a hoard of lizard creatures who try to break through the Great Wall of China. It’s like history, but way less accurate.

Pascal recently spoke to the Telegram about how his career has been shaped by his stint as Oberyn Martell in season 4, particularly the scene in “Mockingbird” where he agrees to be Tyrion’s champion at the latter’s trial by combat.

"I was in New York doing Much Ado About Nothing in Central Park when those episodes aired. Fans of the show had started to come see me in the play. The day after (the Mountain) crushed my head, someone asked to take a selfie with me while I was riding the A train uptown. But it was the week before, when that scene with Peter Dinklage aired, that I got the offer to play (DEA agent) Javier Pena on Narcos. That was the episode that changed everything."

Pascal isn’t just helping to save China from lizard monsters these days. He’s also starring in the upcoming spy action-comedy Kingsman: The Golden Circle alongside Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, which is due for release this fall. Pedro plays an American secret agent named Jack Daniels, a name that I assume was chosen for comic effect.

Also making his mark: Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton), who’s been tapped to play a role in Marvel’s upcoming Inhumans series on ABC.

The Inhumans are a race of superpowered people created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Their leader is Black Bolt. Rheon will play Black Bolt’s younger brother Maximus the Mad, an intelligent person who “comes across as man of the people but secretly covets power,” according to Variety. It sounds like Rheon will get to work a little of that Ramsay Bolton charm again.

Incidentally, the first two episodes of Inhumans will premiere as a feature film in IMAX theaters, an unusual situation. The show itself will premiere in the fall.

And if this wasn’t enough news about Game of Thrones stars making bank, The Hollywood Reporter has it that Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) will star in the upcoming Predator reboot as an ex-marine. He’s part of a group who will try to take down the human-hunting Predators in a suburban setting. Jobs are busting out all over for these people!

Finally, Finn Jones has been confirmed as a guest at Comicpalooza, Texas’ largest pop culture event, alongside Felicia Day and Robert Englund, aka Freddie Kreuger.

Jones, whose star power has received a major boost in the form of his starring role in Marvel’s upcoming Iron Fist, is currently listed as the headlining guest at the convention, which will be held in Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center from May 12-14. Comicpalooza, which started as a small, one-day event in a cinema, is now in its ninth year.
