Piano virtuoso plays the Game of Thrones theme in the styles of Brahms and Rachmaninov

Look, there are a lot of people out there who cover the Game of Thrones theme song. Right now, if you have the opportunity, you go hear it at the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience, played by a full orchestra with show composer Ramin Djawadi himself conducting.

This one’s a bit different, though. Edoardo Brotto is a classically trained pianist who’s studied his craft for decades and has several international prizes to his name. His particular talent is “classical improvisation,” meaning he just up and plays in the style of great composers from the past like it’s nothing. I have trouble pronouncing some of their names.

Anyway, Brotto maintains a YouTube channel where he posts he posts videos of his noodling. One of his videos shows him playing elaborate variations on the Game of Thrones theme song, first in the style of Johannes Brahms, then in the style of Sergei Rachmaninoff, and then as a dark waltz. Like normal. This isn’t so much a cover of the theme song as it is a new interpretation of it, by way of some very old ideas. It’s one of more interesting versions we’ve seen. Have a listen.

Beats what I can peck out on the piano.

If classical interpretations aren’t your thing, there’s always this acoustic guitar cover…

Postmodern Jukebox’s smooth jazz version…

…and a version played by pieces of computer hardware.

Basically, if you think you’ve thought of a new way to cover the Game of Thrones theme song, there’s a good chance someone’s beat you to it. Has anyone thought of just releasing an album of nothing but covers of this song?
