Netflix announces largest subscription price increase in its history

Netflix has been giving its customers more and more original content with each passing year. But these productions do not come cheap. With the increasing number of Netflix Originals, the streaming service has just announced that it will be increasing its prices. It’s the largest price increase the company has implemented since it started streaming content.

So what is the new price breakdown? Take a look below.

• HD Streaming on 2 devices: Going from $11 to $13
• 4K streaming on 4 devices: Going from $14 to $16
• Basic plan sans HD: Going from $8 to $9

It’s not shocking that the price increase is coming now. In a mere few months, Netflix will be losing a lot of content thanks to Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. This includes Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and anything else Disney-related. That’s on top of the Marvel Netflix Original shows that have already been cancelled.

And Disney isn’t the only company Netflix has to compete with. WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal are also set to launch their own streaming services. Is it possible that Netflix will be left with just its original content? It’s sure shaping up that way. And even then, giants like Amazon are making big original content plays; Amazon is investing a lot of money is series based on both The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time.

But let’s not fret too much, as the streaming service still has lots of solid movies and television shows on its roster. This includes Oscar contender and Golden Globe winner Roma, as well as successful series like Stranger Things and The Crown. We’re interested to see how 2019 plays out for Netflix.
