Sophie Turner: The new Game of Thrones promo has “nothing to do with [season 8]”

Just in case you haven’t been paying attention, on Sunday night, HBO dropped a teaser-promo for Game of Thrones season 8. It featured Jon Snow, along with Arya and Sansa Stark walking through the Winterfell crypts, as they passed statues of their parents. In the end, the three come upon statues of their own, before an icy mist begins to invade the crypts.

On Monday, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) joined BBC Radio’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show and said that he actually kept his statue…a statue that didn’t look anything like him, at all.

Seriously, that is a bad likeness of him, and whoever made it should feel bad. Anyway, would it surprise you to know that back in October of 2018, at the New York Comic Con, Sophie Turner actually mentioned HBO had made a statue of her to be used in a promo? I know, mind blown.

We did this promo for season eight where – I don’t know if I can say this, actually. Well, actually, no. It’s got nothing to do with the series; it’s just a promo,” she said. “It was this big kind of statue of me, of Sansa, and I wanted to have it in the garden of my new house. But they obviously wouldn’t ship it from Belfast to New York, so…”

So there you have it: we can put all the theories to bed. No, Bran isn’t a time-traveling White Walker sculptor, and Jon’s old man Wolverine statue doesn’t mean he lives a long life while Arya and Sansa die much earlier. Phew, I’m glad we got that out of the way. Now, bring on the full trailer…we’re ready.

Game of Thrones season 8 makes its premiere on April 14.
