Netflix and Marvel’s partnership on original series has officially come to an end. After canceling most of the shows such as Luke Cage and Daredevil, Netflix announced that The Punisher and Jessica Jones will not return to the streaming service either, according to Deadline. The second season of The Punisher premiered in mid-January, but Jessica Jones has yet to premiere its third season (no date announced as of yet).

It’s still difficult to believe the Marvel live-action shows that once dominated Netflix will now cease to exist. Of course, this isn’t a complete shocker considering Disney is set to launch a streaming service of its own later this year. However, regardless of that, these shows will have to two years before Disney can consider bringing them back on its streaming service (due to contractual agreements).

Netflix confirmed the official announcement to Deadline on Monday with the following statements regarding both shows:

"Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come.In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jone. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter, and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."

In addition to the above statement by Netflix, Marvel’s head of television posted a statement of his own on the company’s official website, which you can read here–just keep your tissue box right next to you. Trust us, you’ll need it.

Jon Bernthal, aka The Punisher, also took to social media to bid farewell to his iconic character (one that we will miss dearly and aren’t ready to say goodbye to yet).

So, where do we go from here while we anxiously wait to see if these shows will ever return? Well, luckily, Disney’s streaming service (Disney+) will offer all-new live-action shows and Marvel will be bringing four adult animated comedy shows to Hulu. So while it may not quite be Daredevil or The Punisher, it’ll be something to fill the Marvel-shaped hole that now exists in our hearts.
