House of the Dragon season 1 was a bonafide hit, but now we’re into the long, cold wait for season 2. The first season of the Game of Thrones prequel series ended with Rhaenyra Targaryen gearing up for war after the death of her son Lucerys Velaryon at the hands of her rivals, the greens.

However Rhaenyra answers, she won’t be doing it alone. One of her most valuable allies is Lord Corlys Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint. After recovering from a grievous wound taken during a campaign in the Stepstones, the seasoned mariner was convinced to join her cause by his wife Rhaenys. Corlys will definitely be crucial to the events of season 2. We just don’t know exactly how.

And neither does Toussaint, as he told Extra. “I haven’t actually seen any scripts yet,” the actor said. “I’ve been told some good stuff’s gonna happen.”

Steve Toussaint hasn’t seen House of the Dragon season 2 scripts yet

With the Dance of the Dragons civil war looming, we have no doubt he’s right about that. Might it involve the truth coming out about what happened to Corlys’ son Laenor? Towards the end of the season, Corlys seemed to have come around to the idea that Rhaenyra had him assassinated, although the reality is more complicated. And also Rhaenyra is kinda-sorta the father of Corlys’ grandsons, and her husband Daemon is definitely the father of his granddaughters. It’s tricky, but on balance, he’s Team Rhaenyra.

“I think pretty much as is indicated at the end of this last season is the fact that he decided whatever I may think about Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) personally, she is the rightful heir to the throne,” Toussaint said. “The land grab the Hightowers have done is treacherous, and they need to be made to pay for that.”

"Plus… the fact is my grandson [Lucerys] has been killed. Even though we know he’s not my grandson, but he’s my grandson. So, I think that’s kind of where he’s at, that that has to be paid for."

Indeed it does. House of the Dragon season 2 has yet to begin filming, and is expected to debut sometime in 2024.

dark. Next. Carice van Houten would play Melisandre again “if the storyline was good”
