Twelfth Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote to Debut at Comic-Con

The Wand Company has revealed full details on their upcoming Twelfth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote and have announced where you can be among the first to buy one.

The new Sonic remotes will go on sale to the general public starting on September 9 at BBCshop.com. But, a limited run of 168 Twelfth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remotes will be available at the BBC America booth (#4129) at San Diego Comic-Con, July 8-12. These limited edition versions are laser-etched and numbered to distinguish them from the upcoming standard production model.

The Twelfth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote is a fully-functioning universal remote that uses gestures to control your television and other home entertainment devices. The Wand Company has previously made versions of the remote that resemble the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors’ Sonic Screwdrivers, but the new Twelfth Doctor version is in respond to fans’ requests. As you know, Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor is technically still using the same model Sonic as his predecessor, Matt Smith. However, The Wand Company’s Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote didn’t extend the way the actual on-screen model did.

The Wand Company’s co-founder, Chris Barnardo said:

“Since our Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic went on sale, we have had a constant stream of requests from fans of all ages asking us to make an extending version. It wasn’t easy to engineer a solidly reliable device that can withstand being repeatedly flicked to extend it, but we’ve been able to do it, and I’m certain that any fan of Doctor Who is going to love it.”

These look insanely cool and well-crafted; they’d be incredible models even without the universal remote functionality. If you’re lucky enough to be in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con next week, I’d make a beeline for the BBC America booth ASAP. The con may run for three days, but I have a feeling these are going to sell out in minutes.
