2. Cersei’s Armor Gown
Cersei’s Coronation Gown was black leather and the visual statement of the Mad Queen come to power. But before she sat down on the Iron Throne, this outfit elicited gasps from fans, as she dressed to not attend her own trial.
Before we go further, for those who think these are the same dress, I invite you to look at some close-ups. The Coronation Gown is leather overlaying gold brocade. This gown is black-on-black with a 3D raised rectangle pattern, and the dress itself appears to be made of a very heavy brocade blend, almost like it was blended with neoprene. (Although I’d have to touch the gown to see if it has that weird foamy neoprene feel before committing to that.
This is the episode where that Lannister inside Cersei died, and this dress shows it. There is no red or gold. There is a high-pointed color which looks almost like it would suit a wicked witch in a fairy tale. Her shoulders may have the Lannister lions worked in them, but they are dark silver, as are the chains she wears across her shoulders. This is a woman who has crossed all the lines, and has napalmed all the bridges. Even twenty minutes before the Sept blew, you could see it in her clothes.
