Winter is Coming

HBO has released 15 official photos from Game of Thrones season 7. Take a look!

First, we get a load at the members of Team Targaryen, decked in out their new, darker outfits.

Notice the fur around Varys’ collar — it’s gotten colder in Westeros.

Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei – Photo: Macall B. Polay/HBO

Missandei’s new triple dragon-headed pin is fantastic.

You gotta figure Tyrion enjoys wearing that Hand of the Queen pin.

If I had to guess, I’d say this was the gang looking at their new base of operations. Welcome to Westeros. Also, notice that, in this picture, Varys isn’t wearing the same fur-lined collar he is in his profile shot, so they must be from different scenes.

Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in the Red Keep

Jaime Lannister is standing by his queen. How long before he decides this isn’t a team he wants to be on?

Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick) carrying Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) near the Wall

So Bran and Meera are “near the Wall.” It looks like they still haven’t crossed it yet, so this shot is probably from the first episode. I’m betting that’s true of most of them.

Benjen…why couldn’t you have brought them closer, Benjen?

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark—Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO

It’s hard to tell where Arya is in this shot, but the warm colors don’t suggest the North. I’m guessing she’s still in the Riverlands. The Twins? An inn?

Next: Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, the Hound and more!

Samwell Tarly (John Bradley-West) and Gilly (Hannah Murray) studying at the Citadel

Gilly’s literacy training is coming along nicely. You can read what Gilly is reading here.

And now we stop by the North.

Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) in Winterfell

Again, Davos has a nice, warm, fur-lined outfit. He’s sitting at the high table in Winterfell’s great hall, near where Jon was sitting when he was declared King in the North.

Is Jon in the Winterfell crypts?

Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey), Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillan) and the Northern Lords in Winterfell

Lyanna Mormort, still hanging out with the big dogs, probably schooling them on being flakes. Littlefinger lurks in the background, as he tends to do.

Joining him: Sansa. What are you two busy bees talking about? Sansa’s face is hard to read, here. Also mirroring:

I don’t know if this is intentional, but the image rang that bell.

Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane—Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO

This is one of the more interesting shots. When last we left the Hound, he and the Brotherhood Without Banners implied they were headed north to fight the White Walkers. It looks like the Hound, at least, made it.

Finally, we end where we begin: with the most important shot of all:

Awkward flirtations blooms eternal.
