Doctor Who News: What to expect for season eleven
With the Chibnall era inching closer and closer, we learned quite a bit about season eleven this weekend. While most of the Doctor Who fandom’s focus was on the New York Comic-Con, there was some interesting information released about the next.
Here’s what we can expect from the Chibnall era:
Fewer Episodes, Longer Screentime
By “fewer,” don’t worry, we’re not turning into Sherlock with three episodes a season. It seems like Chibnall’s plan is to have ten episodes a season, ranging around sixty minutes an episode. No more “hour-long features” — now we’ll have fifteen extra minutes to have better thought out storylines.
This does give the show 600 minutes of television. In terms of minutes, it actually comes out to 60 more minutes than before. So we’re getting more Doctor Who, and we’re not going to have to wait for twelve episodes!
According to the Mirror,
"“Expect something fresh and brilliant, with more of the stories travelling backwards in time, to interesting historical eras, as well as forwards.”"
Where’s my happy button? I’m so excited! I love stories about traveling backward in time. Hopefully, they can get Gatiss to write at least one of the episodes, as traveling into historical times was his specialty.
If we’re also going to be going forward, I hope that we go some new places, but visit some old friends. There are many aliens that I’ve missed seeing, and I’m hoping Chibnall remembers some of the other aliens already used besides just the Daleks and Cybermen.
New TARDIS and Sonic
The idea of a new TARDIS and sonic screwdriver can’t be a surprise. With Moffat’s era came Eleven’s funky orange lava-lamp themed TARDIS and a green screwdriver. Who knows what Chibnall will bring?
Who knows whether Chibnall will decide to go backwards, and give the TARDIS a more retro look, or go for the same type of futuristic look.
One note for everyone? Please brighten it up. The grey TARDIS was fun for awhile, but I need some color back in my TARDIS.
As for the sonic, who knows what that’ll bring! Would it freak everyone out too much if I asked for a pink setting?
