WiC Live: We discuss the first scene of season 8, and continue our read-through of A Game of Thrones
By Dan Selcke
Every week, a few of the Game of Thrones nerds here at WiC take to Facebook Live to talk about our favorite obsession. It’s WiC Live, and we stream it every Wednesday from our Facebook page at 4:00 p.m. CST.
This week, we go over a few SPOILERS knocking around the world of Game of Thrones, including:
- Where does the first scene of season 8 take place?
- We’ve got some information on a couple scenes set in Winterfell. Who’s involved, and what are they doing?
- Also, how far along is the filming on season 8?
All that and the Super Bowl, too.
Around ____, Josh Hill comes in to continue our ongoing read-through of A Song of Ice and Fire. The gimmick is this: I’ve read the books multiple times, while Josh has only ever seen the show. We’re walking through the novels chapter by chapter, analyzing how they work thematically, structurally and emotionally. Or we just marvel at how different Jorah looks on the show vs the books, whichever.
This week, we hit two chapters from A Game of Thrones: Bran IV and Ned V. Highlights include:
- Is it just me, or is this early Bran chapter very structurally similar to others from Arya and Jon Snow? The Stark siblings are joined by their angsty arcs.
- How is A Game of Thrones like a mystery novel? Jon Arryn has the answer.
- At one point, I read Old Nan’s iconic monologue about white walkers aloud before rambling incoherently about feminism. I regret everything.
We’ll be back with more WiC Live this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Hope to see you on the Facebook page!
