Doctor Who spin-off news: River Song to meet UNIT next year!

She’s met many Doctors, and will soon be meeting several Masters, too. But in 2019, River Song will be meeting even more characters that we’re famililar with: Kate Stewart and Osgood from UNIT!
This morning, Big Finish revealed some very exciting news for the eighth box set of their Doctor Who spin-off series UNIT. The UNIT team – featuring Kate Stewart, Osgood, and several original characters – have faced off the Nestenes, the Silence, the War Master, and more recently the Wirrn.
But in 2019, they’ll be facing a brand new opponent: River Song! But why is she working against UNIT in this upcoming box set?
Details are vague at the moment, but we know she’ll be appearing in the last two episodes of UNIT: Incursions. Written by Guy Adams, the two-part story The Power of River Song looks set to be an exciting one.
Last year’s Sixth Doctor audio was both a terrifying and popular release in Big Finish’s Doctor Who audios.

However, Big Finish fans have another reason to look forward to this box set. Last year gave us the Sixth Doctor audio Static, which was probably one of the best stories of the main range in recent years. Certainly, it was an absolutely terrifying one.
The opening episode of Incursions, This Sleep of Death, will be a sequel to Static. It’s even being written by Jonathan Morris, the writer of the original story, so we can be very confidant that it’s going to be a worthy sequel. I’m really looking forward to hearing this one.
Tempest by Lisa McMullin will see the UNIT team on a mission in Scotland, as something threatens the oil rigs in the Hebrides. I don’t need to know any more to be excited by this one, although I’ll admit, being descended from a Hebridean family does help in my case.
Overall, this sounds like another great mix of stories for the UNIT team. I’m already excited to listen to it. But before that, expect our review on the latest box set, UNIT: Revisitations very soon!
