Best moments from Game of Thrones: The Last Watch
By Dan Selcke
The story of extra Andrew McClay ties the doc together
We get to know several crew members during The Last Watch, but perhaps none as memorable as Andrew McClay, who fans have come to know as the unnamed soldier who’s been surviving battles for years now:
"[SPOILERS] THIS GUY IS TRUE HERO OF WESTEROS from gameofthrones"
McClay is the heart of The Last Watch. He’s an extra who loves his work, the show, and the Song of Ice and Fire novels. He lights up when he sees a Dothraki arakh burst into flame on set, he talks passionately about why House Stark is the best house, and he even gave his character a name: Aberdall Strongbeard. I loved his talk about why the Stark soldiers go bloodthirsty once the sack of King’s Landing begins. He clearly lives for this stuff and it’s delightful.
Watching McClay tear up as filming winds down is affecting. He brings home how important this show was to the people working on it. I’m thankful to all of them.
Over the credits of the documentary, we see McClay giving a Game of Thrones tour. I hope he finds success in whatever he tries.
