The Crow (seasons 2 and 3)

Jon Snow isn’t often seen without his furs, a garment no Northerner would be caught without. One of his best fur-cloaked looks is the Night’s Watch outfit he dons during the second and third seasons of the show, after he’s initiated into the Watch and again after he’s returned from his reconnaissance mission with the wildlings.

The fur underlines Jon’s role as a member of the Night’s Watch — or a “Crow” — an order dedicated to protecting the realm at any cost. The jet black costume helps erase the rest of Jon’s identity, including his connections to the outside world.

The fact that he’s shown in this outfit before and after his time with the wildlings also emphasizes the fact that, even if he strayed from his duties for a season or so, Jon has never wavered in his beliefs or vows. Even during the time he spent with Ygritte, he was always a man of the Night’s Watch first and foremost.
